Her grandmother planted into her mind the idea that the spirits must have wanted revenge and that forever scarred her into being cautious and frightened of the woods and the spirits that dwell there. She finds comfort in her plants and she loves watching things grow and thrive. Sala lives alone in her grandmother's cottage whose stonework is quickly becoming overgrown with Sala's plants.
