They were all so beautiful! Lullaby sat at the front of the flower shop he had just found with wide, adoring eyes. He always enjoyed falling asleep in his dad’s vegetable garden; he always felt refreshed after waking up amongst plants. Even as he admired everything on display, a little part of him just wanted to curl up, sniff the lovely scents and take a nap.

Oh, Hydrangea would love it here.

The little foal pranced back and forth and then he spotted it. The perfect flower: so blue and marvelous. He instantly wanted his mother to have it.

But he didn’t have any money to buy it with. Lullaby deliberated for a long time and when nobody came along, his small idea began to take shape. Nobody would notice if he just took one of them. There were so many flowers there if one disappeared it would hardly make a difference.

A large brown stallion was working in the back, his long black hair as dark as good soil. The stallion was huge! A draft! But about as dangerous as a flower bulb. Honeysuckle, the florist, calmly worked over a new shipment of flowers he had gotten in. The soft hearted, deep voiced draft didn't realize he had an admirer out side his shop. Rarely did he notice any affection given to him or his plants. Bu for now he concentrated on his lovelies.

They were late winter planters, meaing bulbs he would plant when it was still cold and would bloom the first of spring. But for now they had to be prepped. He moved towards the front of the shop but stopped to check a few pots on the lower shelves. Being so tall had it's disadvantages, usually it meant he had to take extra care to remember all the plants on his lower shelves.

The flower he wanted was a bit higher than he was, so he had to squish through the other pots to reach it. He stood on his hind legs, balancing carefully and reached out to snag just one flower… and heard a noise. Approaching hoofsteps? Oh no!

Lullaby panicked and in his effort to backtrack, knocked over another pot, effectively spilling soil everywhere.

Honeysuckle blinked as he head rustling amongst his pots. Perhaps a small creature had gotten in? Birds and small rodents tried to enter his store for a new home or parts for their own. He was always kind enough to escort them out without harming them. Then he heard a larger pot that contained soil knock over. Well that wasn't a creature.

Walking over his horn glowed as he lifted some pots to reveal a pale, green haired colt half covered in soil. He smiled at the small one. He knew who this was due to the colt's friendship with Draft.

"Well, hello Lullaby. If you are looking for Draft he isn't among my flowers. Can I help you?" he chuckled as his magic set down the pots. He looked over at a broom and used his magic to have it come over and start sweeping up the dirt.

“O-oh, I-I… uh….” Lullaby was sure guilt was written all over his face. He certainly felt guilty and utterly mortified. He had been about to steal a flower from his best friends uncle.

“I…I… no… I was just… the flowers…” Lullaby spluttered out. “… are very nice…” He finished lamely, looking anywhere but directly at Honeysuckle. “S-sorry I… knocked over your pot.”

"It's quite alright, Lullaby. It's not the first pot knocked over, it won't be the last," he smiled as the broom continued cleaning. It even swept the dirt off Lullaby's rump in a ticklish way. Once it was all clean the broom was returned and the draft looked down at him.

"Were you looking for a flower for Draft? Or just enjoying the scenery like your brother Hyd? He has come to visit me a few times," he smiled. Honeysuckle rarely looked anything but calm and happy. He usually had a smile on his face. But he suspected the colt was not telling him something. Perhpaps he and Draft had traded angry words or something.

“F-for Draft...?” That made him pause, forgetting his guilt for a moment. “Does he like flowers?” If he did, Lullaby would have to get him some. “A-and… Hyd comes here…” Oh, now he was beginning to feel even worse. “I was just… looking… yes… the scenery…” He shuffled his hooves anxiously. “I should probably go though…” Honeysuckle was so nice. Oh, Lullaby, you’re such a terrible Phony.

"Well no one has really given him flowers before so I am unsure. He might like them or..." he trailed off a bit as the small colt seemed upset. What was wrong? He was hardly intimidating, even new foals found him more facinating that scary. And Lullaby should have known him by now.

"Lullaby, what is wrong? This is not like you," he leaned his head down so that his hair fell like a curtain infront of the colt. He nuzzled the boy's hair and looked at him with the calm dark eyes. "You can tell me if you are upset. It is always best to get things out. Holding in things can be painful and make us forget what makes us happy."

Lullaby looked up into Honeysuckle’s kind face and burst into tears.

“I-I’m s-sorry…” He wailed. “I-I was going to steal one of your flowers! I-I didn’t know it was your shop or I wouldn’t have but even if it wasn’t your ship it wouldn’t have been good anyway but I wanted to give it to my ma and I had no money and… and…”

For him it seemed like such a terrible thing to even think about. He didn’t want to be a bad phony.

Honeysuckle looked a little surprised....a little....that the young colt wanted to steal one of his flowers. Were they really that pretty? Several had tried but all had failed, Honey always knew if his flowers were being harrassed. But the boy had wanted it for a noble reason so Honey decided a lesson was in order.

"Well it is wrong to steal, Lullaby. What if your mother knew it was a stolen gift?" he looked at him then smiled, "I have an idea to make it a gift she will be so happy to recieve."

He nodded over to the small watering can on a shelf. " I have trouble watering my flowers on the lower shelves. Being tall has it's disadvantages. Because you told me the truth I'll make a deal with you. If you water all the plants on the bottom shelves I'll give you the flower as payment. A honest pay for honest work. Sound like a deal?"

Lullaby had expected condemnation, maybe even the Phony police… but none of his dramatic ideas came true. Instead, Honeysuckle smiled. Smiled. Lullaby wasn’t sure if that made it better or if it simply made him feel worse for having even considered stealing from him.

No, Yawn would not have been happy to receive a stolen gift. He should have known that.

The little colt blinked in surprise and let out a pent up breath of relief. “R-really? I..I.. yes!” He stood up that extra bit taller. “I’ll take the best care of them I promise. I won’t let you down and I won’t even think of taking anything, not ever. I’m really very sorry, Mr. Honeysuckle sir.”

Honeysuckle nodded, "I know you won't. Honesty is a very important part of being Old Enough, Lullaby. I hope you have learned that. Now, let me show you how to water my plants. They are different from your father's garden."

Honey showed the colt where to get water for his little watering can and how much water to put in each pot. He showed how the little plate underneth filled with water when there was enough, so it wouldn't get too much. He also told him about the flowers as they watered, explaining how some could even be medicine if made properly. None of his flowers were for eating. A few could be used for spices or scents but most weren't just for eating.

Once all the plants had been watered, Honeysuckle gave Lullaby the flower wrapped in a pretty paper with a few decorative ribbons and tissue. Just the thing for a hardworking colt to give to his mommy.

Lullaby listened intently to everything Honeysuckle had to say. He trotted along beside the huge Phony, making sure to repeat everything in his own mind to make sure he didn’t forget a thing. Not being a unicorn would make things harder, but he didn’t mind. He would still do his best to make up for his mistake. With every minute he was beginning to feel better, but it still wasn’t enough.

When they were done, he was surprised to be presented with the flower he had coveted. He blushed with delight. “Thank you! I know mama will love it so much!” He looked shyly up at Honeysuckle. “Can I come back tomorrow? I would still like to help you…” He asked, and then quickly added. “But I don’t want to be paid. I just wanted to help you. Please?”

Honeysuckle smiled as the colt absorbed the information. All of Tangle's children seemed to enjoy this shop. He imagined he'd have a little league of helpers once the spring came if they weren't all grown by then. Then again they still might drop by to help. Once all was done and his gift was given he chuckled at the request.

"Of course, Lullaby. You and Hyd are always welcome to help in the shop. It is quite nice to have company who enjoys flowers as much as I do. Now run along before your mother worries. And I'll see you tomorrow," he nodded.

Lullaby was so excited! He would come here with Hydrangea and they would have so much fun caring for all the flowers... and maybe he would test and see if Draft liked getting flowers too. “Thankyou, thankyou!” He picked up the gift for Yawn very carefully. “See you tomorrow!” With one finally grin he trotted off slowly towards home.
