Each day was like a new game to play, to see how long he could escape notice of those who were above him. Watch this cub, go hunt antelope, help me find such and such and such! It made him sick, quite frankly. And he'd had no luck wooing a female of the upper class, which just... sucked. Hell, he'd take a girl at low class at this point!
His tail flicked as he moved along, he was not anywhere near the boarders but he also was not in the center of the pride. He was heading for a small little tree that provided a substantial amount of shade; his favorite tree.

(he's actually a slave through marriage, I never updated his cert)Horatio was humming to himself happily. He had just checked in on his daughter, getting the latest news of his brood. He was happy that they were middle class, and guards, all of them! It made him happy that they were happy. He hoped that they didn't worry about him being in the low class - having Amalthea around as his mate made everything good. Horatio was almost always disgustingly happy and upbeat. His marriage into the low class never changed that. Sure, it got a little annoying here and there to do errands for those that asked, but it did keep him busy, so he didn't mind too much. He had been wandering around, wanting to get a little exercise before going to fin Amalthea. "A tree! A perfect place to take a quick breather." And so he headed there.

Day after day he went through the same routine, usually just with different lions speaking one or two words to him. He hadn't realized the grumpy, unkind reputation he'd gotten over time, though he probably would have grin and patted himself on the back if he did know. A yawn suddenly cracked at his jaw and he paused in his walking, stretching a little bit. A nap sounded like just the thing! He grinned as he thought about it, but that grin quickly disappeared when he got to the tree.
Because just as he'd gotten to his tree, so had whats-his-face. Mvushi was pretty sure he was a fellow slave, and also pretty sure he'd put himself in that position. Idiot. Though... if Mvushi wasn't mistaken, the male in front of him was probably still with his mate. "Quick breather, hm? Well I don't really think so. That's my tree." He spoke gruffly and sounded annoyed. He knew full well that he couldn't own a tree!

Horatio's ear twitched, being as dense as he can be he didn't quite realize that someone else was already headed for the same tree! His mind must be a bit too distracted with happy family thoughts.
"Oh? I'm certain that we can share the tree, for just a moment. Were you going to take a nap here?" He didn't really want to impose, but he also did need to take a slight break before heading back 'home'. Surely this fellow pridemember could share his spot, if only for a few moments!
Horatio didn't quite read between the lions' lines that he wanted to be left alone. Horatio didn't quite believe in being left alone, as his mate had learned through their courtship.

He sighed heavily. This was the problem with running into other members, almost all of them were friendly. No. He was sure every one of them were friendly, and they wanted to intrude on his generally sour mood! His tail gave an annoyed little flick as he just stared at the other, and then he sighed again for good measure. "Yes. I was."
He was blunt, but he also figured that the other would not take this as a hint either. He slowly sat down at the tree, already the shade felt cool and nice on his back. Then he shot the other a glare. He wasn't going to force him to leave or anything, but didn't he think this was slightly awkward?
He didn't want to nap while some member he only knew by face was just sitting there. But part of him also did not want the other to leave anyhow. A very tiny part, the part of him that used to enjoy socializing and interacting with others. He gestured to the area beside him. "Well, take a seat then."

Since the blue-maned male sat down first, and presumably took the spot that he wanted, Horatio let himself sit down for the moment, a bit away from him to give him a polite amount of space. His pale blue eyes were almost glittering when he smiled, happy to have a shared moment with someone that he didn't know that well.
"I won't take too much of your time," he said as he sat. "I'm Horatio. A fellow slave." It wasn't that hard to know who was in your class, especially if they were low class, or high class. He gulped just thinking about the high class, though. He'd never imagine talking to anyone 'up' there, especially after the rift that the pride had just gone through. He felt lucky enough that it was ok for him to talk to his offspring in the middle class.
"Have you finished your work for the day?" he asked, trying to be a little bit social before he left.

He inwardly groaned. Why did he have to get a chatty fellow slave? Mvushi didn't quite realize that his disposition was actually the more strange of the two. "Mvushi." Fellow slave! Oh the words annoyed him! He hadn't always been a slave! It wasn't that a slave's life was particularly hard or strenuous in the pride but... well. Mvushi just couldn't get over what he'd given up for a love that was lost almost instantly. What a joke... his life was a joke, certainly. "You weren't always a slave though, righ' Horatio?" He asked slowly, glancing over. Was he tricked into following his heart, like Mvushi had once been? Or maybe he was just mixing this one up with another member of the pride... a lot of them were starting to look alike to Mvushi, due to the new generations and such.
"Heh, not quite." He mumbled, ears lowering slightly. Right. Work. He hated work! "I imagine it'll take me most'a the day." Well... it wasn't like he had any other plans, why not take his time doing it? "And you?" He raised a slow brow as he looked at the other. The over-zealous type, maybe?

Horatio was so....oblivious. Its probably what kept him always in a good mood though. "No, I used to be in the lower-middle class," he said with a bob of his head. So....going down to low class hadn't really bothered him much at all! It wasn't a large drop down in the class system, and as long as he made sure to be respectful to everyone around him, everything was good.
"Actually, I'm not even originally from this pride. I just...couldn't get Amalthea out of my head, and here I am!" Hopefully Mvushi wouldn't gag from Horatio's.....enthusiasm.
"I'm on my way home, so I may be done unless someone spots me and asks for something." Being a slave wasn't so bad, even if it limited his movements in the pride's lands.

Oh. Lower-middle. Mvushi guessed there wasn't much of a difference than... and not originally from this pride. Well. Well. That just meant that he couldn't fully understand or appreciate the workings of the class system, at least in Mvushi's mind. "Hmph." What else was there to even say about that? This male was even more foolish than Mvushi had been in the past! He'd left his pride to come here? Though admittedly he believed the Mwezi'Johari to be the best pride out there, how could it not be? Still... Mvushi couldn't imagine himself up and leaving (not that he could any longer) this pride so he could follow a female to her own pride. But maybe that was because of how deeply hurt he'd been by Denge?
Mvushi decided to keep his mouth shut though, what good would it be to tell this guy that his girl, this Amalthea would probably leave him one day? He probably wouldn't even consider words like that! "Well." Ah, but what to say? He was still stuck on that, wasn't he? "I'm sure everything is jus' peachy then." He could help the resentment in his tone, the jealousy. What if that female never did leave this Horatio? Maybe she would be with him forever... it made Mvushi slightly angry and quite a bit jealous, though he couldn't understand why. He'd sworn off love, after all.
"Maybe I should go get some of my work done." He said suddenly as he stood again, bowing his head minimally to the other.

This time, Horatio heard the tone in Mvushi's voice. He did his best to ignore it, but it was shocking to realize that perhaps he had been intruding on Mvushi instead of spending time with him. Horatio understood a dismissal when he received one (even if they were the same rank), and nodded to Mvushi. "Yes, perhaps we will bump into one another again," the white-maned lion said.
Since Mvushi was the one to stand, Horatio thought it might be best to stay here, at least until Mvushi left. Give him some space. It would give Horatio a moment to think, and perhaps return to Amalthea and speak to her on the matter. He had never really had an issue with the class system, but Amalthea had been worried for Horatio and what it might mean. Clearly, he was missing something.
