User ImageName: Finn-att Sokk-att
Race: Centaur
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Height: 7'5"
Hair: black, cropped short
Eyes: Dark brown
Skin: Darkly tanned
Build: Strapping
Horse half: blood bay, heavy draft
Additional features: The small rack of antlers that marks him as a herd-chief, hung with feathers, beads, and bits of carved bone; various ritual and battle scars, including one under each eye, running on a diagonal down towards his nose; a stylized sun tattoo sprawling across his back; mobile, horse-like ears, haired at the base but then giving way to skin.
Clothing: Sword belt/sheath that hangs at his waist (human), and a quiver of arrows at his back (both made of tooled leather).
Weapons: Mongol-style bow and scimitar

Family: Sokk-att Kagg (father; deceased), Savv-itt Yann (mother; deceased), Jakk Finn-att (son, 7), Lavv Finn-att (daughter, 6), Kerr Finn-att (daughter, 4)

Finn-att has been the Chief of the Sunlord's Herd since the death of his father five years ago, and in that time it's numbers have nearly halved; it's not uncommon, when one chief dies and another comes to power, for herd members to seek out to more stable herds. Finn-att's herd of fifteen includes his two wives, his son and his two daughters.

Each centaur herd aligns with and worships one god from a pantheon of many; while all centaurs acknowledge the existence and power of all gods, herd chiefs and shamans swear fealty to one alone, and lead and shepherd their herd with that god as their patron. All other centaurs are not so tightly bound, and if they change herds, they are expected change gods as well.

Finn-att serves the God of the Sun, but as with most smaller herds, he has no shaman; therefore, when the herd has need of one, they go to the shaman of their ally, the Lightbearer's Herd. As the Sunlord's Herd has an ally, they also have a rival: the Starspinner's Herd, a much larger community headed by Skorr-att Kutt-att.

[On names.

Centaur names are brief, rarely more than one syllable, and tend to have clear, strong beginnings and endings; they never end in vowels. Suffixes are used for titles: '-att' for a herd chief, '-itt' for a herd chief's first wife/lead mare, and '-arr' for a shaman.

Centaurs carry their father's name as their surname.

Why does a centaur have horns?!

Not all of them do, just the herd chiefs! They're 'planted' there by a shaman, and actually grow as the chief's power and herd grow.]

Name: Itztlac
Meaning: Obsidian Man
Race:God
Domain: Night
Gender: Male
Height: 7'5"
Eyes: Silver

Appearance: Itztlac was reborn into the body of a centaur with a draft horse base. His coloration is blood bay in the process of turning to black, with jaguar spotting beginning to show. His antlers are relatively small, reddish-brown in color and going black at the base. His tail is beginning to go white at the end. His fingernails have lengthened into claws, and small black wings have sprouted. Their makeup is similar to these, without the fraying.

Clothing: Only jewelry.

Personality: Soft-spoken and surprisingly graceful for someone with such a bulky body, Tlac is much what you'd expect from his domain. He tends towards politeness and formality, though a wicked tongue and ready sarcasm lie just beneath. Quite predatory in nature, he prefers outsmarting others to fighting directly, but is adept at both. Though he leans towards the darker side of things, he is not evil. His primary concern is almost always himself, and he is generally a solitary sort.

Powers:

Ivynian

Minor twilight:
During the night, there is likely little need for this power. During the day, or in places of great light, Itztlac can institute a zone of dusk. The completeness of the dust is dependant on the source and power of the light, currently. For example, in the full of a noon day light, the darkest that this power could manage would be an overcast-like darkness. Darkening places, however, has turned mortal heads since long before writing.

Minor nocturnal servants:
Traditionally nocturnal animals, only a few as a morph, can be summoned to Itztlac to do tasks for him. Owls, mice, alley cats, raccoons, possums, etc. While not an army, they can understand simple directions, like trained dogs, should the god be commanding them
.

Thicket: Ket for short, she doesn't remember where she got such a ridiculous name, but insists that it's hers nonetheless. The demoness found Night's host, and for that she's earned great favor with her god...not that she has any competition.

(Followers who get their own post, because there are Way Too Many.)

[These characters and their images have been, with permission, recycled from the closed Forest of Noctua, but they are not Sentinels. Sentience and larger size are their only shared traits. Some below are pictured at fledgling stage, but for story purposes are adults.]

Physically, Tylluan resemble owls in nearly every way as far as body structure is concerned; the primary difference is that they're much larger, with the largest males standing up to three feet tall. Females usually come in a little shorter. The only other significant physical difference is the range of colors Tylluan are found in - every color under the sun is possible, though 'natural' colors are very dominant. Traditionally, dark colors made up the majority of the ruling class, but with their society broken and their numbers dwindling, things may be changing.

Of the reigning family, only one pureblood remains: a female, Neirin. A handful of other high class Tylluan remain as well: Lleuad, Taranu, and a cousin of Neirin's, Cwmwl. The rest are simply remnants of the general population, scattered and slowly finding their way back to each other.

According to their legends, they are the mortal children of their version of the God of Night, Tywyll, and their mother-figure, Babandod. Whether this is true to any extent, Itztlac does not remember.

Brenin/Brenhines
The current ruler, who can be male or female, always the firstborn or oldest surviving child of the previous monarch. Royal Tylluan are of the oldest, purest bloodline, and there's been a liiiittle bit of inbreeding along the way to keep it like that. Typically very dark in color, considered evidence of their ancestry. Their mates are arranged from birth, and always come from among the Tylwyth.

The Brenin/Brenhines has relatively loose control over his or her subjects; they're a respected, but distant authority, relied upon during times of crisis but largely unnecessary the rest of the time.

User Image
Neirin: The current Brenhines, and the only pure royal left. Neirin's betrothed died during Gehenna, and she has yet to officially choose a replacement; there is, however, only one suitable candidate: Taranu, the only remaining male Tylwyth. Unfortunately, she can't stand him. Instead, she's taken a quiet liking to the least suitable Tylluan of all, Dedwydd.

Tylwyth
The 'high class' of Tylluan society, made up of relatives near and distant to the royal family. They too are typically dark, although some tend towards gray. Occasionally, an honored individual may be adopted into the Tylwyth, so some families do manifest other colors.

Among this class are the arbiters of Tylluan law.

User Image
Lleuad: Lleuad is, it could be argued, the only useful Tylwyth left. She comes from of a family of Ynad, or judges, and is practical and reliable.

User Image
Taranu: As the only male Tylwyth left alive, Taranu is guaranteed to become Neirin's mate, if she'd just stop putting it off and announce it already! He's impatient, arrogant, and eager for this chance to rise so far in standing. His relatively light coloring would once have ruled him out, but now he has no competition.

User Image
Cwmwl: Neirin's cousin, child of her uncle and a Pawb. Though her colors are quite striking, the half-and-half look is quite scandalous for the only other Tylluan of royal blood left. But, at this point, no one has room to be choosy...and if Neirin makes the mistake of snubbing Taranu, Cwmwl just might have a chance at bumping her out of power. After all, a bit of white in the bloodline is nothing compared to orange.

Pawb
The general population, and by far the most numerous Tylluan. Here are found all the other colors - white, gray, brown, and sometimes bright.

Itztlac's rooms at the Pantheon, like those of some others, aren't quite rooms at all. He has made them to be like a forest - a dense, dark forest, with gnarled trees and drooping branches (which the god needs to be careful of, but it's worth it for the atmosphere). The trees are quite alive and leafy (or needle-y, in some case), but otherwise it's a very creepy/haunted forest sort of look.

Individual 'rooms' are simply clearings - one for himself, one for his aoide, etc. His bath is a small pond. Besides the god and his servant, a number of creatures call the indoor forest home: all manner of nocturnal animals come and go as they please, and there's a budding population of fireflies. His newly-discovered followers, the Tylluan, are also welcome.

QUEST FOR ITZTLAC:
Legs that run the skies of worlds

In some worlds, the fall of night is likened to the passage of a steed and rider over the sky. In others, a cloak. In others length of hair. What is the Truth in this matter? How does night fall over all worlds in their proper time?

  • 1 post, joint or solo. There is need to ponder, as above begun, just how DID this god once perform the task of his office. How did he enforce his domain?
  • 2 posts , joint or solo. Examine the lineage of Night. Plainly it is derivative of First Children Darkness and Light , but how so? This will require you to at least consult with Sosi to work something out to both your satisfaction. This information will need a source, either surfacing memories of the gods in speaking to each other, a tome, an inscription on a holy place or item, SOMETHING. This is going to be shop Lore, so make it good!
Springboard from the account of existing lore :
""Surely as this tree has grown, so have we and our child. But there is naught else. Show your joy, and mine. Make the symbols of it Be!"
So it was, from the radiance and colours of his own new form, he pulled forth Light. But Sorrow returned in his mind, and he could remember all that he was. And there was a great twisting in his gut and he howled. Blood red splashed down him, and blackness returned.
Gaia was again afraid, and the child cried out.
"What one must make so must another. There will be balance, until there is Void again." and Destruction lifted the left hand of the new form, and pulled from himself Darkness. But Darkness and Light were inimical, and fought before the High Family and the great tree, the two globes of power throwing off mana in every direction.
So it was, that of the two powers, their battle mixed a small part of themselves and threw back from the royal family and the great tree great shadows that stretched along Terra. "

  • 3 posts. solo. Knowing where one is from is a start. But whom was the right hand of night? What do all those things have in common? Remember The Herds of Night. The Mouths (aoide) of night rode on steeds of his making and blessing, kept by his own sheparding hand. It was the long tails of these steeds that gave rise to myths of hair as a covering of night, or as bearing a rider, his riders. And his riders were his armies to battle when conflict arose between the Two of Night and the Two of Day.
  • 3 posts, joint or solo. Go in search of one of the herd grounds of old. There was for certain an small field for a small herd in the Old City, and this can be the one sought, or a larger one of location of your own design. The trek and anticipation are the primary focus of this arc, then the search for any surviving horses. At the end, he should find a petrified hoof. It is a let down, but can this still be used by a god?
  • 2 posts, solo because you own Kikechum. A goddess of Animals Lives! Better yet, it is the Mother of Animals. Night must convince Kikechum to help him regain this sire of his herds. She's got to eat the hoof (it's the seed). Then they've got to sleep together. That's awkward (I can't imagine this scene coming off serious no matter how it's managed, even by pg 13 standards of propositioning someone. She's so small and he's a huge centaur). But there needs to be life/water for the womb/earth for there to be something out of the seed in a mostly mortal host with gem god and a 50/50 god at morph. Then, after a month, she's grown fatter with mortal creature in her womb, and the second post she can give birth anew to the progenitor foal of the night for the herds.
  • quest done! Now he's got his first Ageless Immortal Horse of the Herd of Night as a reward.
