Rio had perched himself on the edge of a fountain to relax and watch the comings and goings of the Pantheon, ever-fascinated by the sheer variety and beauty of life. It was irresponsible of him, perhaps, to simply sit and watch the world go by, but he did so enjoy it, and it was only for the afternoon...for the second afternoon this week. He twitched his candied wings, flicking away the thoughts of what a terrible procrastinator he'd become; this was his life, and he would do what he wanted with it, including people-watching.

It was so hard to leave, to go out into the worlds when he had so much here, so hard when he had become so mortal. He closed his eyes and shut out the bustle for a moment, shut out the expectation. What was he to do with himself now?

Cosine flexed her wings as they soaked up the warmth of the afternoon sun. After a successful rummage in the library she was heading back to her rooms with a rather large pile of books. Some were hers, almanacs from the time before the fading, she was working her way through them slowly, keeping the useful ones and disposing of the others. The rest of her pile were books for pleasure. After spending time sampling different kinds of books she discovered that she quite enjoyed the trashy romantic kind. They were so much fun.

She was holding the heavy pile carefully with her chin tucked over the top book in an attempt to keep them in place. Of course, this meant that she could not quite see where she was going, or her long dress getting caught up on her slipper coverd feet.

Rather gracelessly she stumbled, her grip on the books loosening. They tumbled to the floor with her not far behind.
Surely goddesses were supposed to be graceful. She thought as she landed slightly painfully on the stone pavement by the fountain. Even partially grown ones.

His reflection was interrupted by the sound of something being dropped to the floor - not especially soft, nor especially hard. He opened his eyes to find that the cause of commotion was books...and a goddess. Seeing that, he hopped to his feet immediately to offer her a hand up.

"Are you okay?" She was familiar, but they hadn't met. He quickly placed her as being one of the Council volunteers, the one Night had opposed. Numbers.

Ugh, someone had seen her wonderful moment of clumsiness. She looked up and smiled as she spotted another god standing over her. He too looked familiar., though she had no name to put to his face.
"Yes, thank you." Luckily she had not fallen far and she was no longer mortal. She light pain she felt was nothing major. Cosine took his hand in her smaller one and stood as he helped her.
"I suppose even gods need to look where they are going." She rubbed her hip and blew a strand of hair out of her face. "Thank you... sorry I do not know your name."

"Yes, I fear our status doesn't except us from gravity." He smiled sympathetically and with good cheer, releasing her hand once she was up and steadied. "I am Rio, Love. You are the Goddess of Numbers, if I recall correctly?"

Love, of course. She had heard his name mentioned here and there. Ankou knew him, as did Echo.
"I am one half of Number, Cosine. I've heard of you. I live with Ankou and Echo is a surrogate sister to me. They both know you well I believe?" She crouched down to start picking her books up and placing them on the wall of the fountain. "I haven't seen Echo in a long while though."

"Of course. My daughter has met your Other, I think." Did they consider each other siblings? He and Khiviance associated with each other in a...rather different way, but then, they were Love. While he pondered this, he bent to help Cosine retrieve her books.

She lived with Ankou, did she? Now that she mentioned it, he did remember Echo referencing such a pair. "Ankou and I have only met once, but Echo I do know well, though I haven't seen her in some time, either. But raising children is remarkably time-consuming, and she has three."

"Yes, indeed and they are a bit of a handful. I'm a bit of an honourary Aunt to them. Which I do enjoy, they have such inquisitive minds." It had been a while since she had sought them out, Crys in particular. Yet another thing to add to her ever growing 'to do' list.

"Your daughter met Arctang? I have to say, we are not close. Maybe once, but time changes us all." She shrugged a tanned shoulder, her brother had no idea of her evolution, though she did intend to visit him, another 'to do' "Do you have many children, or just the one?"

"I'm familiar with the situation. I can count my meetings with my counterpart on one hand." And still have a couple of unused fingers, at that. His expression was telling: he didn't like it this way. Though they had sometimes found themselves in conflict, it wasn't right that they were completely apart. Why did she choose to to keep away?

Rio banished the old litany of thoughts, chasing it away with a laugh at Cosine's question. He supposed at one time, he must have had many children, but no longer. "No, not many. Two, Adi and her brother Kinsley."

"What are they gods of?" It was a natural question as the only god children she had really met properly were Echo and Nergal's brood and Caolan. "I do quite enjoy the company of children. Their conversation can often be far more engaging than that of adults." a grin formed on her lips and she placed her books on the edge of the fountain. "Ungarded and honest."

"They are not gods at all, but half werewolf instead," he answered, his smile no less proud than it would have been if they had domains of their own. "My daughter intends to become an aoide, and already serves Forest."

"You would like Adi then, I think. She is nearly full-grown, but has lost little of her innocent ways."

Half werewolf, that was interesting. The goddess raised both eyebrows and smiled more. He was clearly a proud father, just as Nergal was.
"An Aoide? That is a noble future, and of forest. I met his host during Gehenna, it seems like a lifetime ago now. I would certainly like to meet her." She placed her last book on the pile and straightened, the charms that hung from her hair clicking together at the movement. "I have been rather out of touch lately."

"It does, doesn't it?" he agreed. "A very long time ago, indeed. I hope it stays that way." Violence, fear, uncertainty...for all that he'd kept on as his cheerful self during the trying times, he couldn't honestly say he hadn't been afraid. Only a fool wouldn't have been afraid.

"She's not hard to find, or to miss. She doesn't go far from here, so I suspect you'll run into her before long if you're around much." Rio nodded his understanding at being out of touch. "It's easy to become distant, even for me."

"Ah yes." She smiled warmly again. "I suppose the God of Love is usually in high demand. A social realm ... when requited?" It was more of a musing to herself than a real question. Everything had two sides after all. "It is easy for me to escape the world. Goddess of those who lock themselves in basements." she joked.
"We just have to hope this stablity lasts."

"When requited, yes," he affirmed with a half-smile, "That is the trick." It was something he should move on from, away from the 'failures' and on to other things. This dwelling on what he couldn't have was becoming old.

For now, he cast it away; it was not for sharing with someone he'd just met. "Now now, you shouldn't stereotype! My host lived in a basement, and she was terrible at math."

"I wonder if it can last, so long as the Grigori remain a threat - phantom or no, they worry me."
