Greetings traveler. You have come upon the journal I am writing concerning the life and doings of the reborn god of Numbers, Arctang. The world in which I write belongs to Ivynian, but all my own writing belongs to myself. Feel welcome to browse and immerse yourself in the corner of the world in which Arctang inhabits. Below you will find more information about him and those closest to him.

Each artistic image links to the full version, for the curious and appreciative. Each has a note concerning the identity of the artist. Do not steal the images, please, as they are property of myself and the individual artists. Any information that is not written by me specifically (excepting well-known nursery rhymes) are quoted for clarification.

While we are glad to see you, whether passing through or staying for a spell, please keep in mind this is a journal. Noone should be writing their own thoughts on these pages. If you wish to join Arctang in his story, please send me a message so this can be arranged.

Trailing numbers in a line,
Swirling helixes, march of time.
Marking measures, mixing thought,
Basic structure of what's been wrought.
Defining what does not exist,
Endless trailing into mist,
Add and take, writhe and twist.
Numbers order, human wills resist.
Power, pleasure, all entwine,
Down to numbers all will refine.

Ivynian

Audit - By use of this power, Arctang can discover one (if there are any) inconsistency in the target resource allotments. This was particularly in use in the golden age of the Pantheon for allotments and payments from and to coffers of the gods.

Compting House - When counting one of something, why not make it two ? One for you, and one for me..... Arctang can make a copy of a thing, the duration of existance of such a thing is small for now though, as per Morph guidelines.

Sing a song of sixpence,
a pocket full of rye.
Four and twenty blackbirds,
baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened,
the birds began to sing.
Wasn't that a dainty dish
to set before the king?
The king was in his counting house,
counting out his money.
The queen was in the parlour,
eating bread and honey.
The maid was in the garden,
hanging out the clothes,
When down came a blackbird
and pecked off her nose!

Arctang, the Pie Bird, is a rather balanced and neutral individual. He does not tend to associate himself as good or evil, merely as being. His sphere of influence includes numbers as they apply to creation or as a cause, rather than measuring the effect. Music, architecture, puzzles, and instruction of mathmatics all interest him greatly.

He has advanced to his morph stage, absorbing much of his host in a joining of selves to change her body to closer to his own. He regrets her loss, feeling surprisingly guilty and sorrowful about it. Otherwise, due to his close empathy with his host, he tends to be in touch with his feelings much more than one would expect of the god of Numbers might.

He now seeks to find a way to be useful to the Twin Crown, and to find himself a place among the other dieties. Due to his time of imprisonment within the puzzle cube, he has found himself behind on assisting Harmodius with battling the Grigori.

Ivynian
QUEST FOR ARCTANG:

Wounds of Weeping Black
  • At least one solo or joint,
Establish thoughts and motives - Arctang is one of the few gods who has been wounded directly from a blow of the grigori, and at that one delivered by Samyaza. This was painful beyond measure, a void wound powerful enough to tear the fabric of a god. These Grigori were sealed away, were once enemies of the Gods in a great war. If Arctang wasn’t privy to this information, he needs to decide he needs to know more about what the grigori are and then discover it by asking around.

  • At least 3 posts, joint.
If there was a war, that means there was medicine and healing, for mortals, aoide and gods alike whom fought for the crown. Panacea has vanished, and neither god of healing has ever appeared. But they would have known something to ease such wounds right? Something for the armies to use if they themselves were not directly near or available. Find out about the Old Pantheon from the gods who have been there, and that many of the old palaces of the gods there are long empty and filled with dust.
Not a likely place to search.
But Harmodius lived yet at the end of the Fading. There is a chance that artifacts or information about that war, being so important to the middle Ages, he collected and did not leave in the Old Pantheon.

  • 1 post joint.
The coffers of the crown are watched over by Futs Lung, Treasurer of the Crown. That means having to go talk to him and convince him somehow to let Arctang into the treasuries…and worse…maybe even take something out.

  • 2 posts joint or solo –
It’s like the room of requirement in there…all KINDS of weird stuff from different worlds, different makers mortal and immortal alike. Some of it looks ridiculous and worthless, some priceless. This should be a frustrating and frantic search like trying to find a needle in a haystack. But the needle is scroll, written by the Male Medicine and Female healing of how to craft a salve that helps combat void rot and heal over minor to serious wounds. It is written in an old tongue, but the scroll is in a shelf of scrolls of remedies and healing notes from these gods, all marked with a symbol like the rod of Asclepius

  • 1 joint
The scroll should be brought to the attention of the Council, surely.

Rairne - A seven or eight year old girl, blind from birth, now orphaned and become a street urchin. She has survived on sheer stubborness and a fierce will to live. She's learned when to hide, how to avoid notice, but is not shy about speaking her mind and standing up against abuse of herself. Being so young and left so alone, she tends to have a very insular view of the world, assuming it is limited to what she already knows.

Implantation Appearance - Medium brown hair, cropped short raggedly and stiff with filth and mussed from her wild life. She wears a shirt that is too small for her and that no longer is a distinguishable color. She has rigged a skirt of random lengths of dirty cloth and rages, all tied together. Her feet are bare, the soles are rock-hard from the constant lack of shoes in the city setting. Her skin is rendered a dusky color with all the dirt and mud and various other materials she's been exposed to. Her irises are a milky color, slightly darker than the whites of her eyes. They are however covered by a dirty rang, bound around her eyes and head in a blindfold. There are random smears, scratches, and cuts on her face, arms, and legs, from living roughly.

Cosine, the more sober and bookish side of Arctang. The twins were very close before the time of fading. They have been reborn side by side, and share a tight bond of powers and love. Cosine's powers reflect Arctang's strengths, and Arctang's powers reflect Cosine's strengths. They can reach for each other, entwining parts of themselves so that they can access these strengths.

Arctang is terribly fond of her, though sometimes he likes to tease her. They are opposites in many ways, though now that they are reborn, their hosts have altered the essential natures of them both. The time spent apart while Arc was trapped in the puzzle cube has led to an uncertain and almost strained relationship between the twins, though sibling love is still clearly there.

Ivynian
One - By invoking this power, Cosine can create a feeling of Sorrow in the target or cause one minor sad event to occur in their future

Two - By invoking this power, Cosine can create a feeling of joy in the target or cause one minor joyous event to occur in their future

Rajakhrev - Released by Arctang from a magical prison, this solemn satyr is a devoted servant to his master. He is large, standing easily seven feet high. His lower limbs are goat-like, furred in the same color as his wrap. Despite his sze, he is a gentle and submissive individual, perhaps due to his long confinement. He once had been considered an avatar of spring, lord and master of it, but with the return of the gods, he gladly bows himself to their greater rights to such things. He is content serving Arctang as a sort of assistant.

User Image

Rissa - Found in the rubble of the city with the horse Moment, Rissa is a satyr aoide. She travelled with Arctang, Rajakhrev, and Betha on their fateful journey. She has gone through trials at Rajakhrev's side, thus forming a strong romantic bond. They are now mates and practically inseperable. She serves Arctang willingly and with good spirits.

Hatim - Once a slave child, but bought and freed by Arctang, he is a devoted and adoring servant. His background is vague, but his future is secured as he serves the god of Numbers. He is a willing student and eager dogsbody, and may grow up to become Arc's first priest in his temple.

User Image

Amora - Having begun on Arctang's bad side by enslaving Rajakhrev and Rissa, this heroic mortal is learning her lesson in humilty, forgievness, and empathy by being transformed into a mockingbird, bound by a fae chain to do the will of the Lord of Spring. She may transform to her human self, still bound by the ankle, should she be called upon to perform a task. Once freed, she will become a follower of Arctang.

User Image

Fynna - She has designated herself as a sort of butler for Arctang, serving food and drink and tending to whatever needs he might have in such entertaining areas. She has three pets of her own, which she can direct in very simple tasks. She is fond of all things living, even the pesky tree dragons. She doesn't admit it, but often she is the one responsible for caring for all the critters.

User Image

Kreeant - A somewhat grumpy but good-hearted cook, she makes sure everyone, guest and tenant, is well-fed and content. She isn't seen much beyond the kitchen, but has been known to take up arms (a.k.a. butcher knife and bbq fork) should the need arise. Though she grouses audibly about little beggars, she is often seen slipping snacks and delicacies to the younger or smaller set. The quickest way to earn her emnity is to criticize her food, which is completely unnecessary as every bit is good and wholesome. Compliments make her glow and distract her briefly from her usual hustle-and-bustle. She is not very fond of animals, but tolerates them.

User ImageUser Image

Maven and Teresa - These two always work as a team, and are never found alone. Arctang calls them house elves, though noone is really sure what they are. They look after the bedrooms and do the laundry, and are efficient and unobtrusive, preferring neatness and tidiness in all things. They can easily be mistaken for children, for their high voices and constant giggles, but they are fully grown. They love furry critters, and like to spend their extra time with anything with fur. Their banes in life, however, are the triplets.

User Image

Reginald - He is the tender of the garden, keeping all green and growing things healthy. He has shown a heavy preference for plants that suit his master's domain, choosing those with more obvious fractal or mathematical patterns. He has a penchance for odd numbers, which results in his planting never coming to even numbers. If ever asked, he claims it looks more balanced and natural that way. Reggie is very self-concious though and rately speaks unless spoken to, and almost never makes direct eye-contact for more than a second or two. He feels he is hideous, at least to most people, and generally stays out of sight of strangers.

User Image

Exa - She is rarely seen, partly because she takes her duty so seriously, and partly because she just isn't a very social pixie. She has put herself in charge of every fireplace, stove, and candle in Arctang's rooms. She trims wicks, cleans out chimneys, nurses coals, and banks fires. If addressed directly with a request, she is likely to grant it, but can be unpredictable.

Baby - Rairne discovered this tattered ragdoll in her explorations of empty houses, before fate led her to discover that hidden within Baby's stuffing was the gemstone that contained one of the twin dieties of Numbers. Now that Arctang has taken Rairne's body for himself, he keeps the doll at his waistband, just as Rairne did. He considers his promise to do so a sacred vow, to be honored quite seriously. The doll serves as a reminder to him of the sweet sacrifice of the young urchin.

Gemstone - Though Arctang is no longer trapped within it, it remains an important part of him, and always shall. It currently rests on the outer edge of his right shoulder, but will be migrating to the front hollow of his shoulder over time, as Arctang continues to change his body.

Puzzle Cube - This metallic cube bears nine panels on each side, each of which bear the numerals 1 through 9 in six different languages. When each side is ordered consecutively in its proper language, a portal opens in the top side of the cube, enabling anything trapped within to escape, or conversely pulling whatever it is pointed at inside. The portal leads to a room between worlds which is of unknown capacity and is connected in no other fashion to any other place.

Abandoned House - In a section of city where plague has decimated the population, there are rows of two-story houses, pressed up against each other so that they share walls. Her chosen residence has a working front door, though the stairs are broken in several places. It shares a wall with the house Eex and his tortise companion Morpa. It is highly dusty, though the floors have remained sound for the most part.

Pantheon Compound -
The Setting Itself

User Image
The dread tremors in the fabric of what Is have subsided, replaced by a true peace. It is a time of rebuilding, mourning for what was lost, and planning for the future. Not many survived the throes of the impending elemental weeks, but those who have may be glad that they have much to do. Creation is returned, called Harmodius in this form once more as a simple name. His manner is somewhat enigmatic as usual, but who is to say if this is merely normal or the happenstance that accompanies a rebirth from a state such as the Gehenna force.

The court of gods, the Pantheon, remains. The Twin Crown has resurrected his title and assumed leadership once more.

The home of the gods is now neither shop, nor throne hall, but an open and peaceful place with soaring columns and statues amid moss gardens and plentiful fruit trees. There are raised platforms, but no throne seat, as well as a recessed sitting area with an orators walk over it to act as a forum for those who would have words for the few or masses.

Guest Room - Upstairs, near the stairs but beyond the large bathroom, Arctang/Rairne have lived in a comfortable room. It contains a queen bed, a ulitarian dresser, overhead light, nightstands with a lamp on both, as well as a few knick-knacks, including at least one vase.

Park - Not too far away is a large park which is struggling to remain/recover its proper green stature. It is mostly grassed, with large boulders and small stands of trees scattered about. Sometimes bushes line the paths.

Puzzle Cube - Inside the cube is a manufactured reality, based upon the subconcious desires, fears, and mentality of the one contained within it. This results in a varied, surreal landscape. In reality, it keeps the individual in a suspended state, with the places and events depicted to the occupant existing like a dreamstate.

Tajnevaki's Suite of Rooms - The domestic domain of the god of Mystery, it contains many rooms that house creatures of all sorts, as well as gardens, a library, kitchen, and private workshop.

Lower Level - - - - Upper Level

Bazaar - Located just outside the area of green of the Pantheon, there is an open market for any who wish to barter their goods. Any fathomable type of sale may occur here. It includes honest and shifty merchants, objects that could be considered legal and illegal, depending on the culture. All manner of peoples and creatures can and do conduct business here.

Eex - Rairne's next door neighbor for some time, she generally fears this madman. She avoids him, so he may not even know she lived next door to him. In the end, he was killed in an accident involving Rairne.

Morpa- A very old tortise that has survived noone knows how through the reign of Destruction. She lives with Eex, who cares for her. Rairne has come to be fond of the quiet animal, who seems to listen when she has noone else to talk to. Currently Morpa lives alone in the large park.

Illario - A confusing man who took care of Rairne when she was injured by the stone's implantation. She doesn't understand why he looked after her and fed her. Her pride made her haughty with him, and she feels he isn't likely to be trusted.

Finn-att - This very odd creature has captured Rairne's interest and imagination. She is intrigued by him and respects him due to his treatment of her

Garnet - A nice aoide that made her a sandwich and talked to her about what was going on. She taught Rairne quite a bit about her current situation.

Calico: Goddess of Insanity - A strange but helpful lady. If Rairne hadn't been so distracted, she might have found her to be very strange, or perhaps very comfortable to be with, due to her odd ways.

Evadne: Goddess of Mountain - She startled Rairne at a vulnerable moment, and any kindness she might have been offering was lost in the instinct for self-preservation and pride. Rairne finds her very arrogant.

midnight_medea
ooh you could look at Japanese Haiku and Tanka as they are based on numbers.

Quote:
About Stages

Jewel Wrote: An Edelsteine has four stages. Purchasers will be given a jewel. These jewels contain the essence and magic of a specific type of deity/power/influence. The jewel will be implanted into the owner's body and will begin to form a connection to the owner's soul.
-At this stage, your rp is focussed on the slow wakening of the deity withing the mind of your character, and the begining changes.
-At this stage, the magic of the deity is wholly limited to the host body and just barely to their environment. Their magic is not yet regained enough to form attacks on other players outside of plain brawl and melee that the body is capable of. It cannot form influence over others either. Such as: a deity if Thought could not yet use telepathy to read another person's mind as a jewel, just their host's.
-Use a "OOC:" when rping or storytelling at this stage, please. That will help other players and readers to delineate.

Morphs Wrote: The morph is the second stage. It will replace the jewel in the owner's signature, showing the begining chrysallis of merging between the jewel soul power and the soul of the owner. This process may be interpretted as painful, not painful, fast, slow, whatever, depending on the jewel.
-At this stage, the deity is either in process of destroying the hosts mind/soul, is trying to merge with the hosts mind to try to keep some shard of them alive, or maybe some other option. Talk it over with me if you have a fun idea.
-At this stage, deities are not reborn yet. Abilities of the host are still partially usable/manifest. Abilities of teh deity are basic at best. Maybe one small magic is available to them, and not with great control over it. And example of this would be a water deity being able to fill a glass of water, and that's all.

-You will be given a small portrait image to use in thread rp. It has come to my attention that ooc chat and rp chat may be confused. So by providing these portraits at this "active" rp stage it should help clear that up a bit.
-Certifications include powers to avoid excessive God-modding.
Requirements:
Quote: jewel to morph
about at about 3 pages( after page 1)....aka:
normal=15-20 solo, 15-20 joint
I like writing with others=10-15 solo, 20-25 joint
I like my own writing=20-25 solo, 10-15 joint

Youth Wrote: A "youth", the third stage of the Edelsteine, is the deity reborn. This means that everything is now the deity's, it is their mind, their body, their soul now.
-the original host character, provided they have not been destroyed by the deity, only exists as a whisper, a conscience, or a voice in the mind of teh deity. None of their powers remain. They cannot control the body. They were sacraficed for the rebirth of the deity, and if they still exist in that smallest sense, it was only at the desire of the immortal whom is beyond their puny mortal comprehension. Maybe a mannerism of the host, such as sucking on their hair, or liking the color blue, is still apparent. But not much beyond that. -These creatures have minor powers associated with their fields of influence.
-These creatures are NOT AT THEIR FULL STRENGTH. A youth deity is a deity with no followers, no beleivers, no influx of any human regard to return them to their full glory and power. Just as lack of followers or cult is what made them forgotten and killed them, it is what keeps them from becoming great and powerful again.
-Certifications include powers to avoid excessive God-modding.
Requirements:
Quote: morph to youth
about 10 pages...(after page 1)aka:
normal=60-75 solo, 60-75 joint
I like writing with others=20-30 solo, 90-100 joint
I like my own writing=90-100 solo, 20-30 joint joint

Thank you to Eftemie for being my forever faithful rp partner and cattleprod.

Many thanks to Reyna for creating the gorgeous banners I'm using.

And of course, a deep gratefulness to Ivy for inventing and DMing the Edelverse.
