Shalott was spending more time out on patrol by herself, trying to become strong as a knight and as a force of good. It was hard as she wasn't quite used to this fight but she was earnestly trying. Her corsage helped little but her quick thinking and resourcefulness tended to help her win the day. There was still a bandage around her leg from her injury while she was fighting alongside Ambrosia. Ever since then she’d been shaken by that singular idea – children fighting in a war. It was no different than the child soldiers in Africa or the child laborers in China. Children should be allowed to be children and not have to do this. She was beginning to doubt herself and the White Moon. She thought her side was “good” but here it just seemed like the better side of bad. Peace seemed the better alternative.
His aura could be felt well before he could be seen, likely the whole city felt it before she so much as turned to face him, the small rush of air displaced by his arrival tugging at loose ends, her hair, a scrap of paper someone had left behind, a handful of leaves.
His eyes were on her before he even settled into the smooth step that carried him forward from wherever he had been moments before. He tilted his head, glancing the young woman over almost contemplative. “Well, hello lady, lovely evening for a walk.” His voice was quiet and civil as he folded his hands behind his back, casual, or at least behaving that way. He glanced your uniform over again before giving a small nod. “Ah… Earth.” He said with an approving nod. “I might almost have guessed Chronos with your flowers.” He added softly.
This was her first time meeting a full member of the Negaverse besides Benitoite and that was only in her civilian life. He didn’t know she had this other side to her. One thing she had to give to the man in front of her, he knew how to make an entrance. She turned to see him but not before the very world itself seemed to show his arrival. He was taller than she was and far more powerful than she had felt before. She didn’t want to try and fight him but maybe he already sensed that as he seemed to be in a civil mood. “The flowers weren’t my idea.” She replied smoothly, calm. “This was simply how the costume came out.” But she wasn’t upset about that. She rather liked how feminine it was. “To what do I owe this pleasure?” If he could be polite, so could she. She wasn’t beyond manners and her doubts and previous experience with agents of Chaos (Virtus and Beni) made her predisposed to liking them…or being nice to them at the very least.
“No, I don’t think any of us have much say in the uniforms, do we. I can honestly say though at least for Senshi I find it reflects the nature of their powers, you knights though, I’m still assessing your uniforms, the planetary symbols are clear enough but the rest, well.” He waved a casual hand as though to say it was ‘up in the air’ perhaps.
“As much as I would love to say this was pure intent, and that I had some fantastic plan for you, I’m afraid that I am not ‘all knowing’, so you owe the pleasure to me wanting some fresh air.” He walked closer till he was within a yard of her, with senshi it wasn’t necessarily a ‘safe range’, possibly it wasn’t for knights either but he was still learning about them. At the very least despite his aura he appeared slender, young for what you could see of his face but poised, confidant in a way that spoke of age perhaps or at least experience.
“Zinkenite, and who may I ask do I have the curiosity of addressing.”
"Shalott and, as you correctly assumed, I'm a Page of Earth." She hadn't had much of a say in her costume or chosen item but she was happy, mostly, with what she got. She could have wished for something a little more useful but what can you do? She let him get close, not moving to attack as she already noted he was much more powerful than she was and hadn't actually done anything for her to try and prevent. Or, nothing she'd seen tonight. She wasn't foolish enough to risk real injury or death over something she hadn't seen. He could be like Beni, shy and confused.
“Not assumed, inferred, I make my share of assumptions but in that case I did infer.” He said with a small surprisingly stern look. He watched you carefully as you closed the distance between the two of you. You might lack in rank but that didn’t mean fortune didn’t sometimes favor the bold. “Are you planning to try your luck Lady Shalott? I would strongly advise against it, regardless of my personal disinclination towards battle.” He shifted his footing ever so slightly, the pose though if she knew anything of rudimentary fighting tactics was defensive not offensive.
“Or were you simply curious, I think you’re not as new as some, you seem to understand what you’re looking at unless I miss my guess.”
"Yes, so you did." She quirked an eyebrow at him when he said something about testing her luck. She'd only moved closer and in no way looked as if she wanted to fight. There were stances for that and positioning and she simply didn't have it in her to try and take on someone that more powerful than she was. Lots of things Kyndall Rosen was. Foolish was not one one of them. Curious she could be said to be, clearly, as she studied the man in front of her. "I'm curious until given a reason to be defensive. Or, as the case might turn out, offensive." She wasn't very new anymore, she guessed. Still low ranking and still sort of new-ish but wise as a mother and strong as a fighter. "I understand who I'm looking at for the moment. At least, I understand enough that I'm not willing to try and test my luck."
“Wise in that I’ll grant you.” He nodded and then took a step, pivoted almost teasing like he was putting on a display. “I’m sure, that you have records enough on me somewhere, at least someone on the side of order must. You have Linarite, sorry…Lina siding with you know, I’m sure she remembers something of me.” He spoke softly, emotion at the edges of his words though so carefully contained as to be little more than hints at something deeper.
“So tell me, what do you think of the battle you find yourself part of? Did you choose this? Did you understand what was happening when it drew you in?”
"I've never met a Lina. I just want peace. No senseless death and no pint sized soldiers." She shuddered, thinking of Ambrosia. "But I did choose this. My daughter, Harmony, was killed by your side." The emotion in that was also just barely evident, a pain so carefully contained an untrained ear might still mistake her for civil. She'd gotten her back but that had been a miracle. She did catch the inflection in his tone. An actor learns to sense and use these small inflections to carry more in a line. Except, he wasn't acting. "How old are you?" Might as well cut to the chase. Honestly, she couldn't place him. The age in his eyes seemed to weigh a bit heavier than the age on his face. Experience could be carried with him making him older than he should be. She also didn't know he was the one who helped Camelot when he was shot before the man came to her for help. She still wasn't over that trauma but she was recovering.
“I’m sorry for your loss, many of my friends were tortured to death by Order, I sympathize.” He did grow still though when she asked his age, his eyes locking to hers and standing there silent for a long moment with a penetrating gaze. “Old enough.” He replied after a tense moment. “Though arguably it’s rude to ask, I’m older than what the Senshi’s cat’s are recruiting, and roughly the same age as most of the original senshi.” He lifted his chin slightly studying her. “Who do you know? You must know someone I think, I may be wrong but there are too many of you for you not to be at least acquainted with someone.”
“I’m curious what happened to your daughter, I hope you won’t find that callous.”
"No more callous than you found my question about your age. But, like you, I think I'll sidestep the answer." She didn't want to talk about it much and the bottom line was that it didn't really matter. Harmony had been returned to her by the grace of God. She wasn't about to look that particular gift horse in the mouth. She eyed him critically. "I think you appear older than you are and I think it's mostly the projection of experience." Kyndall had the one advantage of being a student of humanity and, after all, they were all still human at the core. "I know a few people in this war. Some I trust. One even on your side...though I think he's confused. There may be hope for him someday." She thought of Benitoite and smiled. He was really too gentle to be a monster on thier side. Not that she was sure Zink was a monster. Far from it, actually. "You seem to have more of a level head than most."
“I can say the same of you.” He replied and started walking slowly, then paused and looked back as though he expected you to follow. “Sorry, I’d like to walk would you be amenable to that?” He waited for you to move again, to fall in beside him before he continued. He was not fond of the idea that there was someone in their ranks that was ‘confused’, it panged of the danger of loosing yet another officer to the side of Order, but unless he could find them and help them find some purpose there was little he could do.
“Finding hope in any of us is more than most ‘Order’ is willing to do, I congratulate you on that, but pardon my wariness that I feel you may become more passionate about what the very power of Order wishes you to be passionate about as time progresses. If you start believing without questioning then I think we will not speak again. Questions are the root of understanding, but too often we rely on whispers and gossip.”
"The gift of my life is being able to lead and influence. I simply come from a desire for peace between both sides. That is what I'm passionate about." That and getting children off the battlefield. Still, she spoke with passion as she said it, falling in to stride with him. She almost told him she was a teacher but that would never do at all. She realized, perhaps for the first time, how difficult it was to keep up the pretense of being two separate people. She didn't think as Shalott she thought and felt as Kyndall in Shalott's costume. "No one should obey without question. The Nazis obeyed without questions and look what happened." She certainly wasn't going to follow in those footsteps.
“You seem very sure that people will follow, are you already a leader among the side of Order then?” He asked tilting his head and watching her face curious for what she would do, where she would look. Whatever small personal ticks that might lead him to better understand the character of this Lady Earth Knight.
“There are times when you should question and times one must have faith I believe, perhaps that paints me in the wrong, it would I think be hard to say. I can hardly advise you though, you’re side works quite differently from ours, Your promotions, your teams, all of it varies so greatly that I shall say I am constantly amazed.” The words were careful, thoughtful and given with courteous intonation.
"I guess I have a knack for planning." She didn't elaborate. The James Bond villains always said too much and that was the end of them. She wasn't making that mistake. Personable or no he was still the enemy until proven otherwise and she didn't think that was the likely scenario here. She just kept walking at a leisured pace, thinking about what she'd said. She hadn't much thought about it, to be honest. A leading force in Order. Did senshi listen to knights? Did it depend on rank or brains? Did they have meetings, plan strategy? Or was it all just kind of thrown together by the seat of their pants? If so it was a bit disgraceful. "Faith is all well and good when it's paired with planning and hard work." Speaking of, she needed to up her training time and get into better shape. She was good now but she needed to be great. "I still have a lot to figure out before I start thinking of changes." and, honestly, she wasn't confident they'd listen to her in the end even if she did know what she was talking about.
He gave a soft laugh, perhaps a misplaced sound in that something she had said had elicited the sound. “I revise my thoughts.” He said quietly. “I think you must have a roll where you are used to leading to give you such thoughts, such confidence, though I could be wrong.” He waved a hand dismissing the thought.
“I will watch your career with curiosity then, I hope you will not take offence at that.” He looked amused despite the thick fabric that concealed the better part of his emotions. “I do fear that I should take my leave soon though, there are things I must attend to, and you as well I suspect.”
"Does that mean I'll have to watch my back somewhere down the line?" She didn't confirm his suspicions and did well simply leaving them alone and sliding effortlessly into a new direction. A position of power or authority could be found anywhere. She did have patrolling to get to and Camelot to meet. "Yes, you're not wrong. I need to go meet Camelot and patrol for your pets." She meant the youma but it could have been interpreted as the other agents lower ranking than him. "I will look for you again. Any sane voice of the Negaverse might be worth listening to. Especially if we can find more that take the stance of non-violence." Maybe an Order/Chaos UN? Perhaps someday...
“It’s a war, like it or not I believe for now at least we much all watch our backs.” He said with a small shrug, though the name Camelot clearly caught his attention if only for a moment. “I hope that he’s feeling better.” He said with a tone that, had she not been privy to Camelot’s rescue, might have been enigmatic.
“However, I will say before I go, I have no pets Page of Earth. Neither the Youma nor my Lieutenants. One day I may tell you more of Youma, everything that has been taken from them that so few understand. But until that day…good night to you.” He gave a small bow, more a nod of his head than anything of deep respect but an acknowledgement nonetheless.
He did not wait for a reply, perhaps there was no real reason to, and they for now had said what most needed saying. There might be other meetings, their might not, but for now he was gone, his vanishing as wraith like as his sudden appearance.
