  She paced, feeling hot, uncomfortable. She felt nervous, couldn't help but think she brought it on herself, seeking out that Legendary like that. She felt her stomach quiver. She felt... big.The crane on her back cawed softly at Scented Fruit, grappling her back scales to keep from falling off as Fragrant whipped around again to pace the other way. The bird glared at the back of the does head. Feeling the beady eyes on her ears, Fragrant looked over her shoulder, flushed and distraught. "Sheesh, sor-RY. You didn't have to be so good at finding that Legendary, you know." Fruity merely stared. Fragrant rolled her eyes and took a deep breath. She had to tell him. Catch deserved to know. Motherfather help her how he would respond, but she would find out shortly. With another deep breath to calm her pounding heart, she lit off toward where she had promised the father of the clutch growing within her that she would meet him to-day.

 Catch sighed, knowing that he'd made a mistake on doing this. In suggesting the breaks in seeing her, that was. Every moment without her was almost painful. But... he didn't want to risk her deciding that she no longer wanted to be around him, and so he didn't want her tiring of him. Which meant these... rather arduous, long breaks in being around, or even near, her. He didn't like them, even though he felt them necessary to keep her interested in him, and spent most of the time without her looking for interesting places for them to explore and enjoy when they were together, or searching out some trinket or the like to give to her, or planning something to talk about.
Still, the sun was starting to rise, and he was waiting by the spot where she had agreed to meet him. And how... how should he tell her that he... well, that he hated being apart, now that they'd fallen into such a defined pattern of seeing each other for a half a day at a time, then wandering about for a day or so.
...how am I going to do it? he asked himself. How am I going to tell her?

Fragrant panted as she crested the rise in the swamp. Finally on flat land she dipped her head down to catch her breath. She looked up, trying to figure out where she was supposed to go. The dank, dewy morning light made it hard to find her dark buck, but after a few moments she saw his dark form, scraping the ground with a hoof.
A small smile spread across her face and she felt butterflies in her stomach. She crept up to him behind quietly, before loudly announcing herself.
"Ah-HEM!!!!" Fruity squawked and fluttered into the sky, shot a dirty look at the pair of kimeti, brightness and darkness, before scooting off across the sky.
Fragrant blushed, and a playful half-smile spread across her face. "Hey there, mister."

He almost jumped when she cleared her throat, having been totally absorbed. How long has she been watching me? he wondered for a second, before turning to face the doe he'd become so enamored with, and grinned. "Well, hello there," he said, coming forward to nuzzle her, in the hollow just behind her ear. "How are you doing this morning?" he asked her amiably.

She pressed her face into the side of his neck and breathed deep, closing her eyes and taking in his scent. Not...not just yet. This moment is too precious.
She stepped back at him and smiled coyly, then yawned. "I'll tell you how I am, I'm tired! You have me get up waaay early and drag me waaay out here...what are we doing anyway!" she simpered, clearly giving him a hard time simply because she could. "And, how are you?" she asked pleasantly.

He smiled as she chatted to him, generally enjoying the thought of being near her, at least for another half a day or so. "Well, I, at least, am doing good. I can't tell you what we're doing, but I can tell you where we're going... we're going to be walking right through that stand of trees, actually, and now's a good time to do it," he informed her, walking slightly ahead to lead her through a winding path in the thick brush.

Fragrant trotted along behind him, her nerves jumping at the thought of telling him. Still, she was curious about where they were going. He always came up with new places to go and things to see. It was fun, and she liked the variety.
She could only hope this morning would yield the perfect moment to tell him of her...condition. She bit her lip and looked down at Catch's hoofs as she followed him past the treeline.

Catch smiled as he led her through to the edge of the small cliff, stepping out to let her see the sight. Few trees came up near to the height of the precipice, leaving an almost-unbroken view of the swamp below as the early-morning sun struggled to rise clear of the clinging trees.
"I... thought you'd like this," he murmured shyly, watching her as her gaze swept across the breaks in the trees that denoted streams or pools.

Fragrant looked up when he spoke. Her mouth gaped open at the view: bright sunlight spewing across the swamp and slowly burning away the mist, the myriad of naked and pine branches weaving together across the expanse. To the far north, she thought she spotted a shadow--the mountains perhaps? To the west, she thought she saw a faint glimmer--the ocean?
"Oh my!" she gasped. "Catch this is amazing! How did you find this? Is that the ocean? It's so far away! I can't believe our swamp is so enormous...I feel so small." She danced a bit, moving her forelegs to the left and right to try to see further. "Just...wow."
She stopped moving and sat, gaping at the sunrise and the swamp. She felt so small, so insignificant. Maybe...maybe the news wasn't quite so enormous as she was making it out to be?
"Catch..."

The buck smiled as he watched her eyes widen, her neck strain slightly as she craned to try and see a little further along the broad, elegant horizon. "I wandered a little," he said, bashfully.
Then she said his name. "... what is it, Flower?"

She smiled at his pet name for her. She turned toward him, not fully facing him, alternately staring off to the horizon and eying his face.
"I...I kind of have something really important to tell you." She fidgeted and nuzzled his neck behind his ear. She felt her blood race and her heart pound. She was dallying, and she knew it.

She took a deep breath, hoofed at the ground for a moment. She looked down, then up, then out across the swamp to the sunrise.
She shut her eyes tight.
"I....IthinkI'mpregnant."She blurted the words out, as though speaking them quickly would make them easier to say. It didn't. She cracked one eye to peer at the buck next to her.

Catch opened his mouth to congratulate her, then stopped - froze, even - as he absorbed the implications of it. He blinked. Oh. That means that...
"Oh."
That she's going to be a parent, and that...
"Oh!" I am too! He grinned as he came to give her a very enthusiastic nuzzle, wanting to frolic about like a colt in his giddiness, but mayhap not so close to this cliff edge. "That's fantastic news, oh, we're going to have our very own children, and they'll be adorable because they'll look like you, and we'll have to make sure to find the perfect place for you to lay them, not here because a cliff edge is dangerous, and not near any deep or fast-running water, but we can doubtless find someplace that's pretty and nice and has a lot of soft grasses around and maybe we can find pets for them? Or would that be too much?"

Fragrant's stomach dropped as she saw him freeze--and then she laughed as she saw the realization wash over him. A little slow on the uptake, but she couldn't have ever hoped for a better response! She felt the burden lift off her back watching him, the joy practically exploding out of him. She smiled and laughed, relieved at last.
"Pets? Oh dear!" she chuckled. "Before they're even born, you have so many plans! For now, let's just enjoy this morning, hmm?" She smiled again, then turned back to the sunrise.
