The Sprint cup drivers are running at Daytona for the next few days doing some testing. This is the first time that the new aero/engine changes NASCAR made over the past few weeks have been tested. Kyle Busch hit over 202 MPH in a two car tandem this afternoon, but it looks like the drivers aren't able to stay hooked together for very long.

Soldier2013 Take the plates off then see how fast they go xD They talked about that on Nascar radio the other day. The cars would probably go about 230 to 240, but with how the engines are built for the restrictor plates, they'd only last 40 laps before they would fail.

Then build them like they did before the plates back in the REAL drivers times with Lee Petty, Fire Ball Roberts, And etc

That is outdated material and knowlage to make an engine 2. Higher speeds mean higher risk for injury. There IS a reason why they did the plates in the first place was to keep everyone safe. Sure the cars are safer then what they were back then, but there are still risks lets not increase it.

Sure the cars are safer then what they were back then, but there are still risks lets not increase it.Remember also that the tracks themselves factor into this as well. Look at what happened at Las Vegas this year when IZOD was there. NASCAR Cup cars were running 188mph while Indycars were going 222mph. It was too fast for that track. Back when Daytona was built, the cars were alot slower. We might get away with the speeds that no restrictor plates would bring for awhile, but eventually it'll happen. Yes, the cars are safer now, but we thought that with Dan Wheldon, Dale Earnhardt Sr., Adam Petty and all the rest. Plus I think the racing would be worse, with only the top 5 or so finishing on the lead lap just like the 'good old days'.
