Kaveri padded softly, having learned how to move silently from Uzi. She stalked the plains for her food, carefully watching as it took a sip of water from the watering hole. In time she would be upon the animal. As the moments ticked by she found her opening and sprang at it. Catching it on the flank and unfortunately missing as it scampered away from her. With a hiss she lay down. Some other time then. Some other time.
----
Aoi was parched and her paws felt cracked. She paused to lick the front left. It wasn’t bad yet, but much more and they’d soon be bleeding. It had been a long trek through the desert. Her nose was telling her that water wasn’t far away. Walking slowly to ease the pain in her paws, the female hyena approached the water to drink. As she got closer she saw signs of recent activity. Something had happened here. Her eyes took in the paw prints just her nose gave her the scents. It seemed a leopard had been hunting and missed it’s kill.

Kaveri gave a yowl of anger that she had missed her kill. Usually she was very good at getting her mark, today maybe she was under the weather! She went to the water and took a few laps of water. Irritation flashed on her features. Though she perked up as she looked over and saw a Hyena. It almost looked as if it were mocking her. "Problem?" She didn't want to start a fight, just curious.
-----
The blue female eyed the equally blue leopard. She did seem rather put out about missing such easy prey. Her tail twitched as she considered the leopard’s question. Was there a problem? Her feet hurt, and she was tired. Nope, no problem. Aoi shook her head. “I don’t think so.” She moved up and laid down to lap at the cooling water herself. Ah, there was nothing like it; cool water slid down her parched throat.

Kaveri turned dismayed still to the water before jumping into it, causing a big splash. The other she sensed didn't feel well. So she turned to the hyena and cocked her head, "Are you ok?" She had been rude, very unlike her. However she had changed since meeting Uzi. Yes her old personality was still there, she was a little less trusting of others.
------
She looked up as water dribbled down her chin. Aoi had to reflectively keep herself from moving out of the way of the oncoming wave. It washed over her front paws. “Yes, I’m alright. A bit sore, nothing more. It’s kind of you to ask unless you have an ulterior motive.” She gave small ear twitch to show she really didn’t think that was the case. If the leopard had really been offended by Aoi being there she would have attacked right away, not waited to see if she wasn’t feeling well.

Kaveri gave her a toothy grin dripping wet. "That's good. Glad to hear it. Sorry that I was rude before, its just not having a good day." She grinned again. "The name's Kaveri."
-----
“Don’t worry Kaveri, we all have our bad days. It’s nice to meet you.” She smiled and dipped her head in greeting. “Anything in general or something specific?” Aoi could completely understand how trying to catch dinner and failing could count as a bad day.

"Missing my meals makes me rather grumpy." she stated. "Its not like me to miss when I hunt." She yawned the sound echoing. "What brings you out here?"
--------
The hyena nodded and flicked her tail around her haunches. It felt nice to just lay down. Aoi pulled her wandering thoughts back to the present. “Then you must do better than I do,” she sounded amused. Clearly the feline took pride in her hunting. ‘Course not going hungry was pretty enticing too. “Not much actually. A drink and a rest.”

"You know you never did give me your name." She chuckled. "I do pretty decent. I dunno, being away from my Uzi is stressful. Probably why I'm having so much trouble at this moment." She grinned, "Well you can rest here, you look like you've been on a long journey."
------
“I didn’t? Oh dear, my apology. Where have my manors gone? I’m Aoi.” She laughed softly in embarrassment. How could that have slipped her mind? Too much sun perhaps. “Who is Uzi? If you don’t mind my asking. Mmmmm yes very long. I can honestly say I don’t like desert anymore.” She screwed her face up in dislike. The fine grains of sand got everywhere.

"Its a pleasure Aoi." Then giggled again. "Traveling can wear one out a lot. Uzi is my mate. He's away now, but we'll meet up eventually. I don't like the desert either, I haven't gone near it much. I'd rather here with the plains."
-------
“Thank you. Yes it can. All that sand has rubbed my pads raw. I’ll have to be careful they don’t crack for awhile. Anywhere but desert sounds perfect right now.” She licked her paws again. “It must be nice having a mate. Is he nice to you?”

"Well the soft ground and some rest will surely help with that." Kaveri nodded. "Deserts are harsh, it can be harsh here too but at least there's more water here that the sun doesn't always take it away." When the other asked about her mate, she grinned. "He is very sweet. I care a lot for him and he for me." She replied. "I went a long time without a male in a my life and I'm glad to have settled with one so kind."
----
Aoi happily stretched out her legs. She looked favorably upon the leopard. “You’ve been kind to a stranger and I thank you for that Kaveri. It does you honor and I think will serve you in good stead.” The hyena thought back on the endless trek through the shifting sands. Never a drop of water in sight; at least not until she found and dug at a spring. She smiled and listened to the leopard talk of her mate. Perhaps someday she’d be as lucky. “I’m happy to hear things have gone so well for you."

"Thank you Aoi. I'm sure that good fortune will fall upon you also. I believe you have yourself a friend." He smiled and stuck a wet paw out at the other, still standing in the water. Her ears swiveled to listen, "I think however, I might need to be going." As her stomach growled. "I'm sure we'll be meeting again. I think its time I went to find Uzi, he's probably wondering where I ran off too." She laughed.
----
The hyena perked her ears and let her tongue hang out happily. “That makes me happy to hear. I hope to see you around.” Perhaps the move had been a good idea after all. Aoi smiled fondly as the leopard’s stomach growled. “It wouldn’t do to have your man worry about you. When you find him, make him catch dinner for you.” She gave a parting wink and watched as the blue leopard left. A friend, she had a friend. The thought made her chest swell with happiness.
