It had taken a couple of days of intermittent research and hard thinking to finally make her decision. She had seeds for train fare, but thought she might want a companion on this particular trip, especially once she'd gotten there. Considering Taryn didn't know many people with holes punched in them, it was Roch's door she knocked on. Hopefully he'd be in and not having fun somewhere. She'd have to go on a search then...

The doorknob turned, the door swinging open slowly and a little wisp peeked around it to peer at her. There was a dark look on her face as she started to try and close the door again.
"RIFF!" Roch bellowed from inside. "Don't you dare try to close the door one one of my friends!"
The door was let go and the wisp fluttered away, leaving Taryn with an open door to go through.

Taryn was a little startled by the wisp, but laughed when the door began to close. How polite! When the minipet as gone she carefully stepped in, feeling just as nervous as if she had never slept here. The ghoul stood just within the threshold, arms clasped at her front. Although her body language was shy, her expression and voice were not.
"Hey, Roch! What're you up to?" She entered a bit more then, approaching him.

"Mmm--oh, hey Taryn!" he said, looking up from his phone. "I was just chatting on groanspring," he told her, closing it out and sliding it into his pocket. "Sup?" he added, not getting up. "Wait, is this the day we were supposed to go somewhere?" he asked, having not paid attention to what day it was at all. "Crap, I was going to make some spare cash before we went--"

"Groanspring?" Taryn asked, tilting her head. Something about eyephones. She didn't have one to try it out, and besides, Roch was panicking. "No, no! I was just wondering if I could maybe steal you a little. I want to go to the piercing parlor aaaand I think I might need some company." She had done enough research to know it would hurt, might bleed, and may or may not get her grounded for life.

He stopped. "So you found someone?" he asked, grinning. "But we might wanna watch for a bit while they work before you go for it," he said, getting to his feet. "Lemme get my coat, we'll go now."

"I did," Taryn nodded, smiling, and then tilted her head again as she watched Roch move about the room. She couldn't imagine why, even with her logic. If they were clean, the were clean... "Why's that?"

He dragged his coat on, removed the thing over his tattoo, and held out his hand to her, offering to take hers. "Because we need to see if they do good work," he said. "Just being close and clean ain't all that you want from a piercer or a tattoo artist," he explained as he stepped out of the door.

The ghoul put her hand in Roch's without a second thought. She nodded, no, that did make sense... some sense. "I'm not getting a tattoo, though. How complex is punching a hole in cartilage, really?" Taryn realized as she said it that it may be more involved than she had imagined. Oh well. "You had yours all done at home, right?

"Yeah, by this guy who had a shop on the corner. He was SUPER serious about his piercings, like, a**l retentive about out. So every time I went in he lectured me for an hour about how to take care of it and how those jackin' gun devices they got are super unsanitary and--" He shook his head, looking amused. "They made me go to a healer to get my tongue done, and the top part of my ears. But he was right there watching."

"A healer! I hadn't really thought about that, I figure it must heal like anything else, with a little extra care." There had been research done about the aftercare as well, what was good to use and what was dangerous. She'd read testimonials abut more serious piercings and piercings gone wrong, and she liked to think that she was pretty well-prepared. "What was his name? We're headed to Ichor, which... I mean, it doesn't sound clean, but I did a lot of searching."

"Er, uh... well, I don't think it was his REAL name, to be honest," Roch said hesitantly. "Because I really doubt anyone would name their kid Maddog, but, well, it's what he went by, and when a guy's holding a four inch needle right next to your eye you don't really QUESTION that sort of stuff, y'know?"
They headed out of the dorm and down the path to the gate, hand in hand the entire way. "But Maddog, he was a great guy, unless you got him drunk. Then he was a serious pain in the a**."

"Maddog," Taryn repeated, as if just to feel the name on her lips, and smiled. What would her piercer's name be? Something crazy, she hoped. It'd put a bit of rebellion back into what had begun to feel like self-expression. "He sounds like a good guy. Are the needles really 4 inches?"
The chimera had no particular fear of needles, but four inches seemed like a lot for poking a hole.

"Sure as hell looked like it," he said with an exaggerated expression. "It coulda been longer, I was too busy watching it come towards my eye--when I got this one, see?" he added, pointing at his eyebrow ring. "Where's this place at, anyway?" he asked belatedly. "In the maul or in town?"

Taryn looked up at Roch's eyebrow piercing and nodded. Sure, she could imagine how horrible that must have seemed, a large-bore needle going straight for your eyeball and only barely diverting. There was a reason she had chosen her nose, and trauma had been one of them. "It's just in town, I don't really trust the maul. You'd be surprised how many parlors there are in Halloween... or maybe not."
