This was not normal date fodder: two somewhat-punked out kids in not-nearly-enough winter clothing, with fresh bandages over their tattoos, standing out on the street in a so-so part of town and waiting for their cab.

Veer rocked faintly on his heels where he stood, just watching Quinn out of the corner of his eye. His claims of skills at dating [and beyond] might have been a bit overstated, and the fact that Quinn herself had next to no experience made things all the weirder. Holding hands to kill the pain had seemed natural. Now it was weird. So he shoved his own into the pockets of his jacket, shivered a little, and tried not to think of the blossom of pain from his neck.

"...we could do pizza instead, if you'd rather." It was reluctant, though, uncertain. They'd done pizza, hadn't they? With video games. That hardly seemed like enough of a step, enough of a challenge, enough of a dare. Veer licked his lips. "Or we can go for this Chinese thing. And see a movie. Something with explosions."

Quinn may have had zero experience when it came to dating, but that sure as s**t didn't mean she was gonna be shy or unconfident. Her own hands were deep in the pockets of the jacket that she kept pulled in tight around herself, since Veer had pulled away once they were outside of the tattoo shop.

It was awfully clear that Veer was reluctant about the idea of pizza, so Quinn would make it easy on him and agree to Chinese. "Chinese is good," she said with a light laugh. "So are explosions," she added.

She glanced at him from the corner of her eye, her eyes narrowing to slits while she peered at him suspiciously. "We've hung out before, just because we decided to label this as a date doesn't mean it has to be awkward and s**t."

She poked at him teasingly. "I thought you were good at this?"

Teasing, at least, helped: teasing put them back where they usually were, Teasing made Veer relax by degrees, snorting at her and grabbing her hand to stop the poking, tug her off balance. Just because they were getting dinner didn't mean he had to be weird.

Maybe.

"Okay, how the hell have you never dated anyone? Seriously? I had a girlfriend when I was like fourteen, and I was..." He hesitated, still clutching at her hand, expression flickering. s**t. He shouldn't have spilled this, but it was too late now. "...kind of geeky. Little bit. If I could pull it off..."
PostPosted: Wed Jan 11, 2012 7:02 pm

Quinn may not have been a pro at dating, but she had mad skills when it came to not taking s**t seriously. She was also a master at Clumsiness 101, so when Veer grabbed her hand and tugged her off balance, she tripped over her own feet and stumbled into him.

She laughed at her own ridiculousness, and then shrugged her shoulders at his question. Her fingers idly traced invisible shapes on the top of his hand while she thought about it. "You? Geeky? No way," she grinned up at him. "I'unno, I moved a lot when I was back home so it was hard meeting people. And get this," she leaned in close to him and whispered as if she was telling him some huge secret. "I was a super dork myself."

"Boys don't want dorky girls who play Warcraft when they can have popular hot blondes. And unfortunately for me, I was never blonde nor popular. But I'm ******** wicked so whatever."

"Is the whole blonds thing even for real?" That one made Veer frown, his posture shifting, trying to decide if he wanted to put an arm around her -- and then the opportunity passed. It was too early anyway. They could just get dinner, go see a movie...this was a test, not a romance novel. This was, he though, the real world, where sometimes things didn't work out and it was stupid to get all head over heels thinking about it.

"I mean, I don't think I ever gave a s**t what color someone's hair was." There was the cab; his expression lit and he stepped forward, grateful, to nab the door. And hesitated long enough to let her get in first before throwing himself after, directing the cabbie.

"...was more about if they were hot. And interested."
PostPosted: Thu Jan 12, 2012 3:04 pm

"I have no idea, I'm probably just making s**t up." Quinn honestly didn't even notice that he shifted and didn't put an arm around her; quite frankly the thought really didn't cross her mind. She really didn't understand the lovely dovey crap that people were obsessed with. Wasn't getting along good enough? It'd have been entirely different if they had been dating for a while, or labelled as boyfriend and girlfriend, but on a first date she was incredibly easy-going.

"Thanks," she said before sliding into the cab and moving to the other end to make room for him.

"Was likely more about being nerdy than not being blonde. And then you know, the whole," her voice dropped to a whisper to ensure the cab driver wasn't listening. "Super hero thing," and then her voice raised to a normal decibel, "happened. I don't think I could date someone that wasn't doing it too, so I never bothered."

She grinned at him, "I have talked to guys in WoW... But you never know who the ******** you're actually talking to, y'know? Everyone pretends to be hot on the internet."

"I don't have to pretend." It was easy, thoughtless -- and then Veer paused, maybe regretting his choice of words. He watched her out of the corner of his eye, sinking down a little in the cab, legs spread to take up as much space as possible in the backseat. It meant his knee probably bumped hers. Maybe not an accident.

Absently, he shrugged, settled his head back against the seat, and watched the cabbie's face through the glass. "Don't you do school or something? I mean. Work? Meet people, out and around? Go to concerts or meetups or s**t, I don't know..."

She laughed and pulled her feet up onto the backseat of the cab after his knee bumped hers, wrapping her arms around them comfortably. Sometimes it was nice being short, you could fit into tiny places without any issue whatsoever.

"So you tell all the super hot girls in Warcraft how hot you are?" An eyebrow raised when she asked the question, entirely teasing and not at all serious.

She shrugged at his question when she thought about it. "I went to Meadowview, graduated and all that good stuff. I just never bothered going to DCU afterwards. I don't really know what I want to do. I can't really afford to go anyway... My parents were s'posed to pay. But well, y'know."

She brushed a few stray strands of hair away from her face, tucking them behind her ear. "I do work, part-time. To pay the bills. It gets hard when I'm out all night. Being Vice Captain is really ******** time consuming. And I had friends before. It's not fun going out and meeting people a second time around. It's bad enough I was the new girl once, I don't give a s**t to do it again. So I mostly hang out with Lydia. Which.... Is awkward when I'm the third wheel, but oh well. I'd bug Raven but she's usually with Jett. And Josh has been busy I guess."

Boy did she talk a lot. She blushed when she noticed.

"What about you? Besides HITS, since I assume that's where you go since all you space people ended up there afterwards?" She didn't care if she mentioned the space thing in front of the cab driver (if he was even paying attention)- everyone and their mother had their theories about where all those people went anyway.

Quinn did talk a lot, and she talked fast -- enough that he didn't spill his usual 'there are no girls in Warcraft', line, just sat back and watched her with amusement flicking across his face, shoulders settled into the corner of the cab. He didn't mind listening to her talk, not really. Especially if she got all flustered and blushed. Adorable.

"I was doing like. University of Phoenix online, but when HITS was all 'anyone welcome' I switched over. Which was kinda stupid, I guess, it was easier before." He twitched a shoulder upward in a quick shrug, bemused.

"I graduated late from Hillsworth since I had to take, uh, a little over a semester off, so at least I wasn't that far in..." His eyes shifted away, with that, out the window, checking where they were. Or, maybe, hiding something. "I don't know why I even ******** bother, though. I have a job. One with a salary, and then a bunch of freelance database work through this temp agency. Isn't the point of school to get a job?"
PostPosted: Tue Jan 17, 2012 4:03 pm

It was safe to say that sometimes Quinn forgot to remind herself that hey- she's not in England anymore. That note to self: if you talk really ******** fast with your accent, people aren't gonna have a clue what you're going on about, usually slipped her mind. Sometimes that made her miss home, where she could speak as fast as she wanted and everyone would know exactly what she meant at all times. At least Veer thought it was cute for some reason.

"Huh, University courses online... I don't know why I never thought of that. Maybe I'll look into it." There was a thoughtful look on her face while she considered that option. It would definitely be easier than trying to balance work, going to a physical school and patrolling every night.

And then Veer mentioned Hillsworth and her attention was drawn back to him, an eyebrow raised. "Ohhh, a Hillsworth bad boy?" She didn't bother replying to his question about the point of a post secondary education, she was much more interested in whatever dirty little Hillsworth secret he was hiding.

"What'd you do? To end up at Hillsworth, I mean. And to miss more than a semester?"

That was an excellent question. Veer's mouth shifted, uncertain for a moment, his eyes locking with the cabbie's in the mirror for just a moment before the man returned to pretending they weren't in the back seat. Then he looked to Quinn, and his expression was torn: she was either going to be impressed or horrified and, well, what could he do about that.

"I was, uh, learning about databases. And there was this small shopping site, and I, uh." He scraped a hand up the back of his hair, hesitated, and then rolled his eyes. "Long story short I stole about two dozen credit cards and bought a lot of s**t."

Oh god, but he hoped she went for impressed. He tempered the story with a quick flash of a grin, shrugging, slouching just a little bit too much to cover nerves. "I was like fourteen?"
PostPosted: Wed Jan 18, 2012 4:34 pm

"Well weren't you just the most badass fourteen year old ever?" She flashed him a grin and nudged him with her elbow. "Everyone has their skeletons, and yours just happened to get you in a lot of trouble. No big deal. I've done s**t I'm not proud of and I can't use the excuse of being fourteen, so..." She shrugged.

A year ago, maybe she would've been horrified. But after everything she had seen and done since becoming a Senshi? In the Blood Moon Court in particular? A few stolen credit cards really didn't seem so bad in comparison. There wasn't much that would horrify her anymore, which was incredibly strange to her.

She shifted in the backseat of the cab, so instead of sitting pressed against the door she was closer to him, their legs touching. Her subtle way to reassure him that she really didn't mind what he did, when she noticed how nervous the topic made him.

"I'm not ashamed of it, at least." He blinked, shot her a look, and his mouth split back into a smile. That was more the proper Veer, without the flutter of worry, without the hesitation. He smoothed a hand over his hair and raised both eyebrows at her.

"If I'm ashamed of anything it's that I spent it too fast, too obviously, and had s**t shipped somewhere they could find me. I was caught in like two ******** days." A wobbling so-so gesture at that, and he shook his head as the cab came to a slow halt at their destination: decent Chinese, and the big movie theater only a couple blocks away. He didn't waste time at the expensive places. Veer paused to swipe his credit card -- faintly entertaining, considering their line of conversation.

"And the getting into trouble for it, I guess."
PostPosted: Wed Feb 01, 2012 5:44 pm

"Well that sure as s**t wasn't very smart," she quipped at him in regards to getting caught so quickly. "Did you buy anything good? Did you get to keep any of it?" Clearly she was pretty interested in the antics of Veer's fourteen-year-old self.

When the cab came to a stop and Veer paid, Quinn thanked the driver and slipped out into the cold street. A shiver ran down her spine and she quickly shuffled over to the other side to wait for Veer before heading to the restaurant.

"Makes me wish I did more. Not that I have this burning desire to steal from people, but y'know... If I did? As Kat? And then suddenly became Quinn? Criminal record gone! It's crazy- us alien ******** in Destiny City get away with everything."

She flashed him a grin. "But if I did wanna steal? I wouldn't get caught."

As they stepped away from the cab and toward the restaurant -- red awning obvious across the street -- the cabbie's eyes followed them, narrowed and suspicious. And why not? Veer was kind of suspicious, with that coat and the piercings, with the hair and the fresh tattoo on the side of his neck...

He didn't even look back, just blinked sideways at Quinn, forcing himself to relax. It took a bit of effort.

"Yeah, well, if I could go back in time...I didn't get to keep jack s**t, anyway. Everything went back. Now, I think I'd be smarter." He raised an eyebrow at her, flashing a grin as he started across the street. He barely looked. No one would hit them, anyway. "Go through a mirror. Nab it in secret."
