The days since their trip to the ocean had been filled with traveling and very little sleep. They were both eager to find the others, yet the more the searched it seemed the less they found. How long had it been since either of them had seen one of their missing Sisters? Penthesilea wasn't sure how many days it had been, but in her mind it was far too long. By now there should have been some clue, someone who had seen them. They couldn't have all just simply disappeared without a trace. Even so, she did not let their so far lack of success get her down. There would be no admitting defeat, not while there was still breath in her. As long as they kept searching one day they would find some of the others, and once that happened things could begin to be rebuilt. The pair had been traveling almost non-stop today when finally Pen decided it was time for a quick break.
Spotting a small stream up ahead the pale mare lead the way down, her wings held out to slow her decent until her hooves landed softly on the ground, making barely a sound. Curling her wings up against her side Penthesilea looked back to her sister. "We will rest a short while here before continuing." Though they had been traveling for weeks now, her muscles were neither sore nor tired. A lifetime of training had seen to that, she had worked hard to develop the stamina she had and little could tired the mare these days. Even her mind was focuses even though little had been said between her and her sister during their travels. Yakut spoke when she wanted to and right now that was rarely. Having been used to her sisters silent ways since they were foals Penthesilea was neither bothered nor put out by this. It was just how things were.
Coming to the edge of the stream Pen lowered her head and drunk deeply. A light breeze blew across the meadow, making the feathers in her mane dance about, and the beads dangling from her leg covers jingle slightly. Yakut had been somewhat distracted by certain voices when her sister made the approach towards land. Following her down Yakut landed lightly beside Pen, giving her wings a bit of a stretch before folding them at her side. The announcement that they would rest was well received and with a nod of her head Yakut began to investigate the ground. She would have a drink shortly but first she needed to see if anything here would speak to her. Just because the rocks were silent when she arrived didn't mean they would remain that way forever. With her head held low Yakut walked slowly about, this way and that, looking and listening. "Have you seen them? She whispered as she paused by a larger rock. A moment later her head shook and she moved on. There had been no answer, no reason to stay there. If the rock decided to answer later then she would come back to it to listen then.
After a few moments Yakut did not receive any whispers. Things were quiet today. Making her way over to the stream Yakut too drank deeply. The clear, somewhat cool water was just what she needed. Much like her sister, Yakut was not tired nor sore. They could travel for days if needed before resting, but they preferred to rest at least once or twice a day. Injuries could happen to even the most fit of beings, so taking the time to rest, stretch muscles and relax was an important part of life.

Thing had been quiet for a while now in the area she and Nabu had made their home. It was odd to think that they had wound up together after such an unusual and odd strt to things. One crazy night..sudden baskets and after a while...feeling for each other. Perhaps it had simply been fate and she certainly couldn't complain about her family. She was a grandmother now and likely to add the great title to that shortly even.
At least Meret had had some luck in that field anyways - Jarita it seemed could not quite achieve that goal, it was sad really and Char could only hope the couple would have some luck of their own soon enough. It almost made her consider trying for some baskets of her own again sometimes soon - she certainly wasn't getting any younger and neither was Nabu.
Such inner thoughts about family were interrupted however as she reached the little stream that ran close to their home and found two strangers drinking there, one of the mares - the darker one seemed to be wearing a pelt of some sort upon her head and while her own mate wore a mask the pelt made Char a little bit wary. Skinwalkers wore pelts and while she had never met a skinwalker...and she didn't believe the mare before her was one, it was enough of a similarity to make her shiver just a little bit. Still they were close enough to her home that she couldn't just slink away into the woods and forget about them...no if anything she ought to find out why they were here. Stepping forward she minced her way delicately over the mud banks to the waters edge. "Hello"

Penthesilea had heard the mare approaching long before she had said anything. So few could or had the talent to walk soundlessly and this mare was among the many that made sounds as she walked. Her footfalls had not been too loud, but enough that the tan mare knew of the approaching Soquili before she saw or heard her voice. Lifting her head Penthesilea got her first look at the new arrival. A Cerynei mare. A mostly dark pelt with purple and pink highlights. She was a dainty thing and Penthesilea couldn't help but assume she would be one of those feminine types, ones that couldn't stand to get dirty or do things for themselves. Still, the fact that she was female meant that they were equals in a way and so she smiled politely. "Greetings."
Her eyes turned to her sister for a moment who seemed to be ignoring the other mare. How typical of Yakut. With a slight shake of her head she looked back towards the Cerynei mare. "Are you from around here?" She asked curiously. Penthesilea was far from worried about intruding into someone else's territory. And if they had, well there were two options, leave or fight for the right to stay and drink. Since this mare didn't look like the fighting type and Pen didn't plan on leaving just yet she was certain they were staying for a while.
Continuing to drink Yakut played the part of ignorant for the moment. She did not look towards the other mare, nor did her ears more at the sound of her voice. Oh she heard her, and she could see her scrawny little legs out of the corner of her eye but she saw now reason to acknowledge her presence just yet. Besides sometimes when a new face entered an area that was when the rocks would speak, at times telling her things about the newcomer or things they had been holding back on saying before. So she remained drinking, attention focused to see if the voices would speak. Her sister was the leader of the pair, and so she let her do the talking for now. If and when she needed to say something then and only then would Yakut speak.
For a few moments she stood silent. No voices spoke to her. Perhaps there was nothing of importance to know about the mare or this area. Slowly she lifted her head and got the first look at the mare. Nothing at all impressive about her. She was far too skinny and feminine looking for Yakut's liking. But she would not be rude to her either, a mare was her equal even if that particular mare would never be a warrior like her and her sister. Of course she still didn't speak. The conversation had barely started and Yakut had nothing to add just yet. Another puff of wind blew through the area, rattling the beads that hung down from her headdress. Blasted annoying things, here she was trying to be all silent and mysterious and they were ruining it for her.

Now that she was closer to the two mares Char could see they were a great deal more stocky and muscled then she was - she was in good shape to be sure, nothing looked worse on a mare then flab and Char would never let herself look bad - but she wasn't nearly as toned and hevy as the mre's before her. They had the look of fighters which was a bit off putting - imagine mares being so brutish and heathen like as to bother with such things as fighting...but then again that one silent one was wearing a pelt on her head, and the other adorned herself with feather and leather - so heathenish could very well be quite close to the truth.
Of course it simply wouldn't be polite to say something like that, nor to wrinkle her nose at them like they were dirty young stallions - though they seemed to want to play that part - the pale mare was being friendly enough and a two on one skirmish even if they hadn't been so much larger would not be likely to end well. The last thing Char needed was scars on her pretty pelt. No it was likely best to continue being polite for the moment.
"I live in the area" She confirmed with a slight nod of her head "Myself, my daughters and our mates" She added - it wouldn't do to make them think she lived out here all alone. "We don't get to many strangers traveling through"

Penthesilea cast her sister a slightly amused look. So she was going to play the silent game with this mare, so be it. Eventually she would crack and say something, probably toss a cryptic comment at the mare in response to something she will say. That's how Yakut worked, even among the herd with those she knew Yakut would often pull this kind of behavior. It tested the others, made the others truly consider their words before speaking. Yakut had this great way of picking words apart and makes others see that what they were saying wasn't always what they meant to say. Eventually this other mare would say something that would strike her sisters fancy and then they would both see what Yakut had to say. As the mare spoke Penthesilea bobbed her head slightly, so the mare did live around here under a slightly unfortunate circumstance given that the mares lived her as well.
Ah, such was the joys of meeting those from outside her herd. Why this mare would likely think them foolish if not crazy for the life they lead. That was why the herd kept to itself, no use in wasting time on outsiders trying to explain things as they never understood. "My sister and I are merely passing through. We decided to stop long enough for a drink and a quick rest." They wouldn't have stayed long whether they had run into another Soquili or not. They had far too much traveling and work to do to be overly social, but for the moment they would indulge themselves in such an activity. "I am Penthesilea, and this," she motioned to the mare beside her, "is Yakut." There introductions were done, she didn't bother to speak of her herd just yet as this mare would likely balk at the sheer idea of it.
The darker mare did not miss her sisters amused look, and she simply smiled at the tan mare. Penthesilea would let Yakut play her games as long as no one got hurt, playing the silent treatment rarely caused any type of injury, except perhaps to ones self esteem and pride. Yakut doubted this mare would be overly offended by her silent. And why should she change her ways just to please another, especially a stranger. So she continued to let her sister talk for the both of them as her own gaze stared at the water slowly flowing past in the river they had drank from. It was a slow current but it amused her all the same. Occasionally a leaf or other small piece of debris would float by and she would touch it with her nose. None of them spoke to her when she did so, but she had to check each one, voices caught withing moving water were hard to hear over the liquid itself.
Yakut was all but ignoring the conversation until a single word caught her attention. The dark colored mare lifted her head quite suddenly and gazed at the black mare across the stream. "An unfortunate curse you have acquired. Some are more prone to it that others. We remain pure, untainted by such things. And it affects your daughters as well. Such a great shame." Yakut gave her head a solemn shake. This mare would likely not understand what Yakut was referring to, which of course made it all the more amusing to the dark mare, but she kept her face neutral so no hint of what she meant came to be. "There are herbs that can help. Yakut knows them well."

Char watched the two soquili before her with a pleasant look on her face, it simply wouldn't do to seem disgruntled or out of sorts with their oddities or lack of refinement...everyone has their own views on such things she reminded herself - why just look as her daughters best friend..Bangil was certainly not the most lady like of Soquili although she was nice enough in many other ways.
"It is a pleasant peaceful place to rest" Char assured the paler mare smoothly, making sure to put some emphasis on the word 'peaceful' to hint that no trouble was wanted in the area, one couldn't simply take for granted that these two were peaceful after all - not with them wearing feathers and hides like they were."My name is Charulekha" She introduced herself with a slight and polite nod.
Of course when the darker mare spoke Char was slightly taken a back and more then a little bit confused. Curse? What in the world was the mare speaking of - Char was under no curse and she certainly had no ailment that required the use of herbs. She was a perfectly healthy Soquili thank you very much - in fact she prided herself on such things - why she hadn't had to take an herb since her daughters had been born and even then it had merely been a strengthening herb to help them grow! "I don't think I understand what you mean" She told the two mares "I assure you there is no sickness in the area"

It seemed the mare had fallen into her little trap. Yakut figured she would, it was easy enough to fool a mare such a this. Now if only her sister would let her play the game for just a bit longer. With a slight glance at Penthesilea she returned her gaze to the mare on the other side of the stream. "Sickness is not a curse, curse is not sickness. Do not confuse the two." Silly mare, she had said nothing of sickness only mentioned the unfortunate curse. Of course this just worked out more to Yakut's advantage. Giving her head a solemn shake Yakut continued. "It has been some time since you were initially affected by it. And to have your daughters carry it as well..." She gave her head another shake. "Herbs will help. They grow around here. The curse my fight it but even they cannot resist the power of the herbs. Soon they will remove themselves from you and this land."
Lowering her head Yakut took a moment to lip at the water to allow the mare a moment to digest this information. A leaf floating atop the stream slowly drifted by and for that moment Yakut seemed to have completely forgotten about the other mare as her eyes were trained upon it. It was only once the leaf was a ways down the stream and hard to see did she turn her attention back to the mare. "Peaceful places attract the curse. You have doomed yourself and your daughters. Let Yakut help, free you from the curse she will." It would only take her a few moments to gather the necessary herbs and then she would simply need to track down those 'curses' and administer the herbs to them. All she needed was for the mare to agree.
Even though they really did need to get back in the air Penthesilea decided to give her sister a short time to get this out of her system. If she didn't Yakut would complain for the rest of the day most likely. So she simply stood there, letting Yakut do her thing, throwing in the odd nod here and there to emphasize her sisters point. However it was extremely hard to not crack a smile. It wasn't often they got a chance to joke around, their life was filled with training and duties, there was little time for games even in the younger stages of life. Plus being generally surrounded by Soquili of the same background they already knew of the 'curse' Yakut was referring to so this kind of game would never work on them. Yakut had other games she played on the herd members but even those games often had a serious undertone to them.
She managed to keep her composure until after Yakut pointed out that peaceful places brought on the curse. At this point a wide smile crossed her maw and a laugh danced in the pale mares eyes, her sides moving slightly as she did her best to suppress that laugh. Finally she had to put an end to Yakut's game. Surely by this point Charulekha would be quite confused about things. "That's enough Yakut." She said with a mild chuckle. "My sister and I have been traveling for some time so you must understand we are a bit restless and haven't had much time for any fun and games." Giving her head a shake to rid herself of the laugh Penthesilea refocused, serious once more she continued. "The curse is your mate, same with your daughters." And now came the time to explain why that was. "We hail from a herd that is female dominated. Male interactions are...limited." Surely the mare would catch on to what Penthesilea meant by that, as she really didn't think it needed much explanation.

Char was now completely confused and every time Yakut opened her mouth to say something else she got even more confused. Nothing that the darker mare said made any sort of sense at all - although Penthesilea seemed to think it did as she kept nodding in agreement tot he nonsense her sister was spewing out like it actually mattered. Char was pretty sure that the dark mare at the very least was a little bit touched in the head..and that perhaps her sister merely agreed with her to keep her happy.
It wasn't until the pale mare decided to explain things that Char started to understand - they lived in a herd which only seemed to respect females, how very..odd. While Char had never set out to find and settle down with a stallion she couldn't imagine life without Nabu now..and she doubted that her daughters felt any different. One thing was for sure - she wasn't about to eat anything that crazy dark mare tried to feed her...given how confused and mad she seemed to be it would be likely to poison her instead. "I fail to see how being happy in ones life is a curse" She told the two mares "But if that is your beliefs then so be it I suppose, what do you do when you bear colts? Surely it happens from time to time"

With her fun ruined by Penthesilea revealing the truth Yakut reverted back to her quiet ways. She would simply stand and listen now. No sense in adding to the conversation at this point. She had gotten the mare good though, shame Pen had to ruin it so soon. Her ears were still pointed towards Charulekha but her gaze and the remainder of her attention was focused on the stream before her. The black mare certainly seemed surprised by this new knowledge of the herd they hailed from. Most outsiders thought them to be strange. They weren't, they had found the way to live and stuck with it. Every herd had traditions that often showed their difference from other herd, so why was it that living without males was such an odd thing.
As Char asked the question about what happens when colts are born Yakut watched as a cluster of leaves floated down the stream past them. Her eyes followed them. "Down the stream they go, never to be seen again." It wasn't clear whether she was talking about the leaves or what happened if a breeding resulted in colts. Pen would know, and as for Charulekha, well she could figure it out on her own. With the leaves now past them continuing to move downstream Yakut lipped at the water, not quite drinking it. She was losing interest in things and soon it would be time to leave.
Her eyes looked to Yakut for a moment but it seemed her sister was content with things now. Turning her attention back to Charulekha Penthesilea began to explain a bit more in detail. "Then perhaps you understand how it is for us. Those outside the herd have often ridiculed us for our choices to live male free. Yet that choice results in our happiness. You have a mate and are happy, we live without them and yet are happy as well. One does not have to live as others do in order to be happy. If you choose to have a mate then that is your choice, we may frown upon that simply because of how we were raised, yet we would do nothing to change your choices." Yakut may have offered to remove the mares curse, but in all seriousness they did not travel around simply killing off every male they could find. In the end it was the females choice of what she wished to do with her life.
Pen gave a brief not of her head. "Colt do happen from time to time." She wouldn't speak of what happened to colts when the herd first started. Back then when they emerged from their baskets a colt would be killed. Now however they are allowed to live, to live among the herd until they can fend for themselves. "They are taken care of, though it is harder for some mares to raise colts than others." But that was why there were nannies, to deal with the unpleasant circumstances of colts. "When they are old enough to survive on their own they will be removed from the herd." On a rare occasion one would stay, too used to their lives of doing what the Sisters said to leave, so they remained, more on the edge of the herd than anything else to serve as slaves and on occasion if a mare so choose, breeding fodder.

Char took in the mares words..both the strange words of the darker mare - who seemed to be talking about leaves, but then Char was still quite sure that she was at least half mad and so put the comment from her mind to focus on the more coherent thoughts of her companion. "It is not up to me to decide what makes you happy, I might find your choices strange when compared to my own but it doesn't sound like it's truly doing anyone any harm"
By their own words the unfortunate colts were taken care of until they could search out a life of their own and while it probably wasn't the most loving of foal hood's Char had seen worse on here in the world. Places were foals were abused or killed on a whim because they lacked this trait or that color. The world was a cruel place. It did beg the question on what had started this herd down such a path however..some terrible wrong perhaps? The question just begged to be asked and although Char was the epitome of poise for the most part she had never been particularly strong at holding back her own impulsive desires and so she asked "I do wonder though..how such a herd came to be? Historically I mean there must be a reason your ancestors chose to live without males?"

Bored, she was so bored. If anything Yakut wished to go, to return to their travels, to search for more of their lost, to regain what had been lost in these days of finding nothing. This mare, she would never join their ranks, so why waste time talking to her now. She had not missed the look of confusion and disgust when they had explained who and what they were. This mare was the type that could only see her life, and that life was perfect, anything else was wrong, even if she didn't come right out and admit it. And yet...there was a reason to stay. At least for a few more minutes. For the question posed by the mare was an important one to answer.
Especially being answered by Penthesilea. They both knew the history well...perhaps not in such vivid details are the herds Story Teller did, but it would be good for her to tell the story. To remember how and why the herd formed. It would remind them both why they continued their search and why they must never forget who they are and what it took to get them there. It seemed however Pen was looking at her, perhaps making sure Yakut approved of her answering the questions. The dark mare lifted her head, water dripping off of her lips, nodded her head a single solid time an then went back to playing with the water, though she would be listening intently...and remembering.
Penthesilea gave her head a slight shake. " You may not decide what makes us happy, but others often do. It is the fact that we do not follow what is considered normal by others standards that make them fear and hate us." It was well accepted among the herd that outsiders looked upon them as wrong in their lifestyle. And that is why the herd also shut itself off, why few outside their lands even knew about it's existence. At least until now. Now as they traveled speaking to strangers trying to track down their missing herd mates knowledge of their herd spread. Perhaps it will allow for some fresh blood to join. They would need new members at some point considering how very many were lost in the fighting and how many are currently lost. It was hopeful they would return, at some point, they would find their way back, be it through being found by others or following the whispers and rumors that the herd was out there looking and searching.
There was a quick glance at her sister before going to answer the mares question. Their history was only known among the members, but there is no real rule against telling others. Still, it was best to double check. If Yakut had a problem with telling this mare then their history would remain a secret. That single nod was an indication that she should answer. "I am no Story Teller, but as Queen I have a very good knowledge of our history." She may not have the flair that Aleutian Ballad had when it come to stories, but the details were known to her. "It started many years ago with a mare named Marpesia. She had been in a herd whose stallions domineered over mares. They were given next to no freedom. After years of living like this she fled. Though several of the stallions chased after her she managed to get free of their grip. In the months that followed she met other mares in similar situations, most not as extreme as she had grown up with but they too were unhappy with their lives. With Marpesia's help they escaped their herds and lived as a tight knit group." She paused for a moment to let this sink in before continuing. "It didn't take Marpesia to long to become acting ruler of the small newly formed herd, and they vowed together to never be under the control of a stallion again. And so they searched for a place to live, free from the influence of the male gender. It was not easy as many stallions in passing saw them as a great opportunity to gain mares. But with time they managed to find a place to live. This was but the first step in creating the we know today."

While Char had already decided that she didn't agree with the mare's views she none the less was curious enough to listen intently once Penthesilea received her companions approval upon telling the story. After hearing it Char mulled the thought over in her head for a few moments - certainly she could see the appeal of running away in such a situation, she herself would likely do that very same thing. Thankfully Nabu was a gentle soul and there was no need for such extreme measures.
"I can see why such a herd would come to be given those circumstances, it is dreadful to think of anyone being abused in such a fashion" She responded after a few moments of silence while she thought things out. "Although I don't think all males are quite so terrible, nor do all of them seek to rule over their partners. Still as long as you are happy in your life and your herd then I suppose that is the important thing" She continued and then paused as she considered something else. "Do you have a place where your herd resides? ..In case I ever come across a mare in the future who might need such a sanctuary"

Her eyes were closed as her sister spoke of the past, of how the herd the devoted their lives to came to be. They all knew it well, the reason why they lived without males, why they trained to be strong warriors and not soft mares that would fall over at the first sight of a male. A soft sigh escaped as she remembered hearing this story for the first time as a foal. It had, even at such a young age, solidified her resolve to devote all of her life and more to the herd and their ways. She would only seek a male out to continue her line, as most Sisters would, and that would be the limit of her male interactions if she could help it. At Jarita's words Yakut's eyes opened and she looked up at other mare.
For a moment Yakut allowed her words to come out clear, not clouded by her weird ways. "Do not be sad over what transpired in the past, for it is that which has made us strong and given us the knowledge to overcome even the darkest of times." With a snort Yakut shook her head, enough of this plain speak, she only used it on rare occasions and now she wished to move on. Knowing that her sister would have more to add Yakut returned to her current time killed of playing with the water. Soon enough the time would come for them to continue their journey, but first the knowledge of where their herd could be found for other mares should be spread. They were already low on members and any mare could help to bolster them.
Though what she spoke about happened generations ago Pen still felt a great connection to the mares who originally founded their herd. If it had not been for them, their tormented past and their wishes for a better life then the herd would have never came to be. Pen could not imagine what life would be like without the herd. Would they be in peaceful herds? Or male dominated ones? Would they even be in a herd? So many possibilities that Pen had to force those thoughts from her mind for the moment. Now was not the time to wonder what would be if the past had been different. As her sister spoke Pen gave her head a nod. Yes, there was no reason to mourn the past, for it made them who they were and that gave them strength.
Jarita's question made her pause. She thought for a moment before replying. "For the moment we are scattered about in a number of locations looking for those who are lost. When we come back together we can be found far north from her near the western mountain range, where the ground is hard packed and the trees thick." It was a vague description and yet quite exact. They preferred to keep their location hidden as the previous generations had. However they would find anyone who traveled too close to their border, so giving only a vague description worked in this situation. To ensure the mare wasn't completely lost Pen added. "We are far removed from the well known lands, so it is a long distance between our land and the next herds." That would add a bit more clarity to the description of where any mare wishing to join would need to go.

Char glanced at the darker mare as she spoke, for once she didn't seem to be speaking in riddles or attempting to make fun of her - and the words she spoke had a ring of truth to them. It was never good to dwell on the past to much. The past couldn't be changed and all you could do was try to remember the lessons learned from it.
Before she could comment on this fact however Yakut seemed to grow bored with the conversation and turned away to play with the water some more while Pen spoke "So if ever I find a female in need I shall send them north towards the Western Mountains then" She stated with a decisive nod . It was unlikely that anyone from her family would go that way but one could never tell who they might run across and there were many mares out there Char was sure who would be perfectly happy to live away from stallions for various reasons. As it was however she had spent a good deal of time away from her family on this chat already and if she lingered to long then Nabu would be sure to come and look for her. The last thing she needed was for her mate to show up with these particular visitors around. "I should return to my family" She told them "But it was an enlightening talk and I wish you well on your journey" She told them before nodding to each in turn and then turning to head back into the trees she had come from.

Penthesilea gave her head a nod. Though she doubted that any mare Char may possibly sent their way would be the warrior type with their numbers low as they were currently they could use all the new blood they could get. "And if you ever change you mind about having a mate, you know where to find us." Penthesilea added, though again she doubted Char would ever change her mind on that. She was one of those mares that needed a stallion in her life, and Pen could tell that just by looking at her. Watching the mare leave Pen turned her attention to her sister. "We have delayed here much longer than I expected. We must travel until well after the sun sets tonight to make up for this." They had so much ground to cover in order to find other, and while they did need to rest now and then, and speaking with mares like Char did spread word across the land it also took away from their travel time.
Dipping her head Penthesilea took a final drink of water before stepping back from the river. Unfurling her wings Penthesilea gave them a quick stretch before taking to the air. Once above the tree line she turned south east, the direction they had been heading before they had stopped to rest. They needed to find their Sisters soon before it became too late.
Having lost interest in playing with the water Yakut turned away from the river as Char began to speak once more. Something was pulling at the back of her mind, and she wanted to find out what it was. Yakut inspected several rocks and sticks strewn about the ground but could not find the whispered that taunted her for her attention. Blast the voices could be quite cruel at times like this. Seeing that Char was taking her leave Yakut waited for Pen to finish drinking before opening her wings as well. She was glad to be away from the mare who obviously couldn't understand the desire to live free from males.
Catching up with her sister Yakut looked over at her. There was still a great burning determination in Pen's eyes to find every last one of their lost members and bring them home. Yakut could only hope that they succeeded, a Queen without any followers and warriors at her side was vulnerable, even if that Queen was a warrior herself. She had to rely on their unwavering faith they would find them and the voices to lead them in the right directions at the right time. Otherwise they could always miss a sister by a few hours or a few hundred paces. With those thoughts in mind Yakut listened to the buzz of the trees below hoping to catch a single word or sentence from them to help them pick a better direction.
