It was just plain foolish to be out gathering energy in the middle of winter. Super Sailor Remarque had it relatively easy—at least his ensemble left him almost fully clothed and gave him some sort of defense against the cold wind. While Remarque was rather fond of the slighter coverage of clothes on his female counterparts, his heart almost went out to them for braving the chill in those short skirts. Not that he’d seen any of them recently—including his girlfriend, of which he hadn’t been out to drain energy with in a few weeks.

Tonight, he was on his own, perusing the darker pathways of the park s he looked for easy prey. He wasn’t really up for much of a fight in this chill; the cold made him lethargic and, while he wanted nothing more than to lay in bed and covet his warmth, his work ethic prevented him from slacking off. He wanted to be a good contributor to his Court though had struggled a bit with thinking there might be anything more important in his life than him. Gathering energy was almost more about making himself stronger than it was for donating the energy towards Ares’ cause, but that wasn’t something you just up and yell.

His hands slipped into the pockets in his pants as he fought to keep his extremities as warm as possible. Among winter’s perks was the crisp, clean air. It might have been an illusion of the mind, but Remarque always felt he could see better on cold winter nights than any other nights. Not that it was helping him, much; no one was even out for him to procure some energy. It seemed that, for tonight, they were smarter than him and decided to find somewhere to stay indoors.

The wind blew past her, pulled her already short skirt away from her thighs and exposed them to the bitter cold. Crux let slip a curse. She kicked the snow in frustration. But all it yielded was a bunch of snow getting into her boots and soaking her stockings. The wet coldness was a surprise and the girl let out an unseemly yelp. She hated the winter. She hated the cold. More than anything else, she wanted to be at home and preferably under her down blanket which was soft and incredibly warm. Instead, she found herself outside, searching the park near her home for the owner of the dark aura she felt.

She cursed her idiocy. Should have stayed home, should've stayed nice and warm, should've never walked out the damn door. She waited for something to show up, all while hoping something wouldn't show up. If nothing showed up then she could go home, pretend nothing had happened. And if something showed up...well, she didn't want to think about that because it was cold and Crux could barely feel her toes. But, for the second time today, lady luck wasn't on Crux's side.

Remarque became aware of the girl’s aura at nearly the same time as he saw her; he had lowered his gaze from the starry sky when he felt the sting of an order aligned senshi. His eyes had immediately fallen from the sky to her. Though they were on opposing sides, a part of him felt a bit of sympathy for her, if only because he wasn’t willing to feel sympathy for himself.

She was clearly not enjoying the winter evening—and he was loathing it. They had that much in common, if nothing else. He didn’t know if she had seen or sensed him yet, but he was craving conversation—confrontation—of any sorts if it meant warming up a little. Plus, if he could go home feeling productive, all the better. “Little chilly to be out with no pants on, isn’t it?” he called. He wasn’t quite belligerent, though neither were his words delivered in a very friendly tone. Remarque sucked in a slight breath to try and banish the cold from him before he got any closer to the girl; he didn’t want her to see the goosebumps dotting his skin or the way the chills were making him tremble.

Crux turned to face the voice. She brought her hands away from her mouth. It was odd, the blond standing in front of her didn't seem to be a Negaverser. His outfit reminded her of Pollux but he wasn't a senshi. His aura told her that much. Crux narrowed her eyes.

"No, can't say the skirt does much. But at that transparent vest doesn't look like it lends much warmth either."

If she could avoid fighting with the man, whatever he was, then that would be for the best. The dark aura, it was his, of this she was sure. This close, she could feel it clearer than day. But she wasn't sure exactly what the man was. Her white breath trailed between them, hanging like a question in the air.

“Oh, this?” Remarque looked down as if he were noticing the transparent vest for the first time. He shrugged and glanced back up, thin smile on his face. “No, it doesn’t. But, like I said, at least I’ve got pants on. What are you even doing out here in this weather? Don’t you senshi ever take a break, or are you all in love with the cold?” he asked, crossing his arms over his chest. “…Or just masochists?”

He was certainly excluding himself from their lot; he was neither in love with the cold or masochistic—he was a mixture of curious and belligerent. And bored. Very, very bored.

Crux narrowed her eyes. The way the man spoke, well. It wasn't like she had any doubt that this man was the one with the dark aura, but the way he spoke... As if they were two separate factions, that was proof enough that he viewed her as the enemy. If he considered her an enemy, then she considered him an enemy. But what was he? That bothered Crux. She'd always assumed that only the Negaverse agents were her enemy, but this man was clearly not a Negaverse agent. At least that was what her instinct told her.

"I'm from Scotland. A little cold never hurt anyone. Though, I have to say, you look like you're suffering a bit. What brings you out then?"

It was partially a lie. Crux didn't like the cold. She didn't like the snow at all. The cold snow was starting to get her boots wet, curse them, and she didn't relish the idea of wet feet in the cold at all.

“Scotland?” Remarque whistled, seeming impressed. “That’s pretty far away. I’d love to ask what brought you Destiny City but. Wouldn’t want to pry. I’m actually out right now looking for some volunteers. Not many takers with this sort of weather, though. Should rethink my strategy. And you, are you on patrol or just looking to make some friends?”

He wasn’t entirely condescending; the more words that passed between them, the more willing he was to be civil. It wasn’t like he wanted to chase away senshi or give them a bad impression of the Dark Mirror Court, it was just that oftentimes there were a fair share of senshi willing to attack first, ask questions later.

Maybe it was the weather keeping Crux at bay, or maybe she was just more inclined to speaking than fighting, but she hadn’t charged yet, and that was as good a sign as any to keep the conversation going. Besides—now he was curious. He had an expectation for how much energy he should collect every night, that’s why he was out here. But her? He hadn’t seen a Negaverser in ages, and the Dark Mirror Court was more discrete in their civilian casualties. Were agents of Chaos really so problematic that it was worth braving conditions like this just to stop them?

"Volunteers? For what? A snowball fight?" Crux's tone made it more than clear that she thought this was a stupid idea. She shifted her weight to her left leg. Maybe it was dangerous to keep this conversation going. She didn't even know what the man was. Maybe he was just biding his time, waiting for her to let her guard down. Maybe he was trying to lure her into a false sense of calmness. Maybe her toes would freeze off before anything happened.

Either way, Crux didn't want to fight. The blond had plenty of time to make a move or attack, but he did neither. If he didn't fight, then she didn't have a reason to fight. The senshi preferred it like this. She didn't want any part of this "war", as Pollux had called it.

"I felt something dark." She stated simply. "Better safe than sorry, right?"

"But I wonder, what could that dark aura be?" She gave the man a stare and waited to see what his reply would be.

((ooh: crux still hasn't met/doesn't know what a DMC senshi is, so that's why she doesn't get anything. XD; ))

Remarque did not bother to correct the girl that he had been looking for volunteers to drain energy from; for as preposterous as a snowball fight sounded, he didn’t imagine she’d take too kindly to learning he’d been looking to sap some energy.

“Yes, sorry about that, that would be me,” he apologized, though it didn’t sound very sincere. He placed a hand over his chest in introduction, eyes never leaving the girl, “Super Sailor Remarque, Dark Mirror Senshi of Puppetry.”

He gave her a lengthy introduction; he was proud of his position, proud of his affiliation, and proud of his sphere, so had no reason to abandon any of his title—even if it made for a mouthful. “Are you just playing coy, or have members of my Court eluded you thusfar?” he prompted.

[[That's quite all right! Remarque will be pleased to enlighten her xD]]

She blinked, tried to make it seem as if she wasn't surprised by the blond's seemingly ---- manner. Dark Mirror? Dark Mirror Senshi, what the heck?

Crux clenched her hand. She hated being caught off guard, hated being presented with a scenario she couldn't predict. What the heck was a "Dark Mirror" senshi. By the name and dark aura, they were clearly...well, dark. She had only met negaverse agents with auras like that, but this man's was more akin to theirs than any senshi she'd met. The girl took a step backwards and narrowed her eyes.

Unsure of whether the man was toying with her or not the senshi was toying with her, Crux couldn't decide how to answer his question. Instead, she answered with her own.

"Who," perhaps not the correct question as the man had just introduced himself, titles and all. "What are you?"

A more satisfied smile crossed Remarque’s feature; he couldn’t help but be pleased at Crux’s reaction to his words. There was a satisfaction in the smile—that he was pleased a mere introduction could cause her to recoil from his presence. He had no desire to chase her away, however his arrogance left him vulnerable to spontaneous inflation of ego when his words alone could elicit such a response.

What am I?” he parroted. “I’ve already told you. A Dark Mirror Senshi,” he repeated, and went on to clarify, “Not so different from yourself. I am a senshi, fighting for a better world, seeking freedom from oppression and justice for wrongdoings to our kind. –Same as you, right?” Remarque paused, in that instance, seeming thoughtful. “I think. What does a white moon senshi think they’re fighting for, again?”
