Hawk listened to the leaves rustling high above a took a long, deep breath, savoring the rich scent of autumn, the decay of leaves and the crisp bite of colder days to come. It had been a few weeks since she had last seen her sister. She wondered if Coyote was well. If she was beginning to see the error of her ways.
Her breath escaped her in a gusty sigh.
Unlikely. The other female enjoyed her fun far too much to give it up so easily. Still, Hawk held out hope. Someday, her sister would come to realize that there was greater satisfaction in helping others than in harming them. So, for now, all she could do was wait.
Her ears pricked up and her fiery eyes scanned the surrounding forest. Was that another wolf she detected?

Lilac's breath was hard as her paws scrabbled for ground. She cursed under her breathe as she tried to shake off the mud. How could she have been so foolish to go down that hill when leaves were clearly covering the mud. She had slid almost the entire way down the hill and she felt part of her body aching. She gave a final shake before trying to remove as much mud of her light colored pelt.
After finally getting some of it off she sighed and continued. Not only had she got her pelt messy but she had lost her meal. That squirrel just dived up that tree just in time and Lilac was too late to stop before hitting the slippery slopes.
She felt her paws dragging along the leaves as they crackled beneath her paws. She always hated when things started to die, she felt mellow and sort of gloomy this time of the year. It was worse when everything living has shriveled up and died due to the cold. She often tried to travel to stay with the warm weather but often was caught just behind it.

As she traveled in the direction of the stranger, Hawk suddenly heard a loud crashing noise. Someone trampling through the leaves? No. Someone falling? Possibly.
Without sparing time for any further thought, she raced to the source only to find a pale female walking away from a dark streak in the otherwise brightly colored hillside. Yes. She had definitely fallen.
Hawk blinked her fiery eyes and said the first intelligible thing that came out of her maw.
"You are dirty."
The brown female could have bitten her tongue. Yes. Congratulations. Not only was that a less than intelligent remark, it was also a completely obvious observation.
Oh, how others must look upon her and praise her superior intelligence. See what a glorious way Fire Hawk has with words! See how her thoughts flow so smoothly from her maw! ...see how she makes a complete fool of herself in front of strangers.
"Are you hurt?" There. A sensible question, at least. Something a decent wolf ought to say. Also something she really did want to know. She cared for others. Truly. It was just so difficult for her uncooperative tongue to express.
