Super Sailor Pasiphae grunted as her heeled boot sank into the freshly fallen snow, and she was certain that she looked a little silly pulling her foot out of the newly formed whole and shaking it to remove the excess. She probably should have stayed home, given the weather, but since meeting Keren she felt more... inspired to go out on patrol. Some part of her felt guilty for allowing her duty to slip as it had when she was recovering from the events of the Surrounding and balancing her school work, but now she vowed to make up for it.

So far she had seen nothing, aside from a few cars passing by the closing shops and even fewer people hustling down the snow-filled streets with whatever purchases they had nestled safely beneath their coats. The Shame Senshi pulled her own coat closer against the wind as she moved as quickly as she could across the street and towards the dog park where she often took Minotaur to excercise. There would probably be just as few people there, but it was not that far out of her normal patrolling area. She could always go home again afterwards.

If Pasiphae had been looking for an eventless evening, she was very much out of luck. While Remarque had taken a sort of fondness to strutting about back alleys and draining energy from particularly seedy individuals, he had yet to establish a concrete location to hunt outside of the park. Super Sailor Remarque did not have a coat , but was fortunate that the long sleeves and relatively thick fabric from his uniform kept a fair share of the cold out. His aura was obvious, even if he wasn’t so much; he had observed a slightly older, shabbily dressed man wandering down a beaten and well trodden path in a currently empty part of the park. He made for easy prey and Remarque wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity as he strolled after the man.

He had been so intent on just following his catch that he was near to oblivious of any order aligned auras in the area; he was far too concerned with planning his next move and deciding how best to ambush the man he was trudging after.

Pasiphae felt Remarque before she saw him. When she had first awakened as a Senshi, she had not been able to tell the difference between the energy given off by those chosen by Order and the energy of those corrupted by Chaos. She had been able to feel energy, yes, but not tell the difference between them. Multiple run ins had taught her to differentiate between the two, and she put the knowledge she had gained to use now as she redirected her path towards where the energy signature was coming from. When she scanned the area, however, all she saw was a vagrant, one of the many less-well-off of Destiny City's citizens, but certainly not someone who deserved her protection any less.

Her muscles tensed as she thought about what to do in this situation. If she had been in the park alone with the as-yet-unseen enemy, she would have ducked for cover and phoned for help. She was growing increasingly wary of fighting alone, both due to her own lack of skills and the fact that she was growing... well, used to having a team to support. But that wasn't the case. Someone was in danger... if not now, then in the near future. She had one chance to take advantage of the situation for his benefit. The Shame Senshi took a deep breath and took the first move, calling on the power of her moon, "Pasiphae Social Pariah!"*

The marroon energy shield that settled around the older man probably startled him and certainly revealed her presence, but Pasiphae wasn't trying to hide. She rushed towards the person she was trying to protect, steeling herself for a fight that she was certain would come.

*Description of Pasiphae Social Pariah
A more powerful version of Shameful Isolation, Social Pariah allows the energy shield to exist for a longer period of time, anywhere from 30 seconds to 45 seconds depending on the amount and intensity of attacks absorbed. The energy shield can now activate around one ally; if Sailor Pasiphae chooses to do this, she cannot shield herself. Whoever Sailor Pasiphae shields will find their mobility restricted and unable to attack as long as the shield lasts.

In addition to shielding Sailor Pasiphae or one companion, whenever the weapon/her attacker comes into physical contact with her shield, it induces a deep sensation of shame which can actively affect the enemy for as long as the shield lasts.

NOTE: How each opponent experiences this shame differs based on their personality. For example, a proud warrior might feel shame at attacking a purely defensive opponent, whereas a chivalrous guy might feel shame for attacking a girl.

The sudden appearance of a shield in front of him made Remarque immediately freeze as he tried to assess just what the strange, unexpected barrier was—and while he was compelled to raise a hand and touch the sudden intrusion to his path, he was not foolish enough to make any actual contact when he sensed a senshi so close. Too bad he hadn’t felt her earlier or he wouldn’t have been so caught off guard. He half turned, unwilling to take his eyes of his prey though also unwilling to lose this opportunity to assess the senshi.

Even with the magenta tint of the shield, he could make out a fair amount of details—the first of which was that this was a senshi he had never had the misfortune to bump heads with before. The man he’d been preparing to attack had been very well alerted to both Remarque’s presence and Pasiphae’s—and like any sane person would do when they spotted two strangely clothed people and odd magical shields—started to run.

“Cute,” he grumbled to the senshi, trying to decide if the colored shield was anything other than flashy. He wasn’t in the mood for a chase, so was mildly annoyed that his would-be victim was hightailing it out of the part as quickly as he could go. “Is this how you greet everyone you meet, or am I getting special treatment here?”

Pasiphae's eyes widened in surprise as the shield settled around a person other than the victim; she had intended for the shield to protect the civilian while she lured the enemy away. She hadn't even known her shield could go around an agent of Chaos. She mentally filed away the information for future consideration, but for now she was just grateful that the old man was hurrying away from the scene. The Shame Senshi had other things on her mind... particularly in reviewing her opponent.

He was clearly corrupted by Chaos; she could feel that much. But, unlike Carnelian... this man had no hole in his chest or his head, where a Starseed would be. He had a black top much like any other Corrupted Senshi... but he had a strange tiara with an eye on it and a strangely flowing top. Something was different about him, even if she could not immediately put her finger on what it was. She wanted to ask, to find out, but she still had a civilian to get off the scene. Pasiphae placed herself between the retreating civilian and this strange... she hesitated to say "Senshi," but lacked a better term, but answered his question clearly, "I just want to keep him safe. The shield won't hurt you."

The Shame Senshi did not want to start a fight, if she could avoid it... but she kept her guard up, just in case.

[OOC Note: I'm assuming this conversation has taken the amount of time that the shield would be up, so if Remarque wants he can attack next post. 3nodding ]

The shield faded during the girl’s words, though Remarque was still cautious; he didn’t think there was really a senshi he could trust. It didn’t help that she’d just stolen his prey from him. She was a nuisance—and one he certainly wasn’t going to mind dealing with. Instinct had him move to crack his knuckles and he stood up straight as he regarded the senshi in front of her. “You realize, that was probably a mistake. I wasn’t going to kill the guy or anything. Just wanted to borrow some energy. Hell, you could have given me a minute with him and then I would have given him to you. Now, though.”

His eyes narrowed and there was an obvious tone of irritation in his voice. He resented this girl, not just because she was a soldier on the opposing side, but because she had just taken the only thing he’d been looking forward to that evening. If he had just had that energy, he could have gone home, and been done with this damned snow.

“…Now, it seems you’ve let him go,” he said, eying the tracks in the snow. He could have followed the man, probably caught up with him and gotten the energy if he really worked at it. But was it even worth it, now? “…And unless you’re going to donate some of your energy, that leaves me in a bit of the spot. So what are you going to do to pay me back for that energy you just let run away?” he prompted, voice every bit as smooth as it was cold.

Pasiphae's immediate instinct was, as always, to go for her phone to call for more help. The Senshi had never been overly confident in her own abilities and would, perhaps always, be more comfortable following the lead of others like her than taking the lead herself. But her hand paused on the way to summoning the phone and instead curled into a determined fist. No. She was strongest with her team, but... she had more power, now, from her moon. She needed to be able to stand on her own; if she couldn't protect herself... how could she hope to protect the people of Destiny City, or her fellow Senshi?

Standing her ground was not an easy, especially when her opponent cracked his knuckles. A clear sign of intimidation, and an effective one given the teen's insecurities. She didn't even know, really, what he could do, what powers or fighting skills he had. Pasiphae was not a great fighter, as her track record of battle encounters showed. Still... she could not run, not until the civilian was completely safe. She did instinctively take a step back, being very careful given the snow that could easily make her fall. Her words were a bit stronger than her position... but not much, "I... am not going to pay back anything; I don't owe anything. I've seen what leeching energy does to people... and I won't let you hurt him."
PostPosted: Tue Feb 07, 2012 4:49 pm

Remarque gave the girl a look over and came very near to scoffing. He didn’t see her as a challenge, though most of that was probably directly related to his arrogance. “Oh. Pity, then,” he said, rather enjoying that it seemed like his methods of intimidation had rattled her—even if just a bit. “Because I’d much rather hurt him than a pretty little thing like you, but if you’re determined, I won’t bother trying to persuade you to just turn around and go home.”

He took a step towards Pasiphae, standing as tall and proud as ever. “This is your last chance to turn around and forget this happened. If I go now, I can probably catch up with that guy and we can pretend like this never happened. I go home with my energy, you go home in one piece, it all works out. I’ll even drop him off at the homeless shelter when I’m done, how does that sound?”

His voice was almost condescending—saccharine and yet as if speaking down to a child. He took another step towards her.

The compliment rolled off of her easily, especially since she could hear the condescending tone in his voice. Whatever he was, he was confident and had a plan, which was more than the Super Senshi could say for herself. He took a step forward--she took a half-step back in response.

Her insecurities tied knots in her stomach, but Pasiphae raised her fists against the doubt that gnawed at her. The offer seemed nice, on the surface. Especially with bringing the man to a homeless shelter. But how could she trust that he would do what he said? How could she trust anything he said, when she knew that energy draining could be deadly? That conviction bolstered her words and kept her from running, even if she couldn't keep a tremor out of her voice, "I... don't want to fight you, if I don't have to, but I can't let you go after him. So... we'll both do what we must."
PostPosted: Mon Feb 27, 2012 3:08 am

“If you don’t want to fight me? Don’t,” Remarque recommended, voice taking on a cold edge. “You can’t win. If you won’t turn around and back off now, I’ll just have to hurt you and go get him anyway. If you really want to do some good, turn around, and get the hell out of here while you’ve still got the option to walk away. Unless, it’s your pride that’s going to force you to fight me?” he asked, knowing that even if presented a battle he knew he couldn’t win, he still wouldn’t be able to back down. “Because, all the same, this isn’t something I need your permission to accomplish. You’re staying here, and I’m going after him.” Remarque jerked his thumb over his shoulder to gesture towards the homeless male. “And if you feel so inclined to be a good Samaritan about all of it, bring him a sandwich at the shelter tomorrow or something. The one across from the hospital? I’ll drop him off there when I’m done with him.”

He straightened and took a step back, knowing that as long as the man walked on any snow covered surface—and that there weren’t too many tracks to follow—that he could track him. “I don’t want to pick a fight. I’m not out here to spill blood.” Well. Not tonight, anyway. Despite the fact that he was more than ready to string the girl in front of him up so he could go collect his prey if she held him up for too much longer. “I just need to snag a little energy. Nobody gets hurt. The Dark Mirror Senshi? We’re not bad. Just trying to get by, same as you. We just need a little extra energy to help us move along. Better us than to the Negaverse, right?”

Pasiphae squeezed her eyes shut and could not keep her hands from trembling, the jangling pearls and beads on her wrist a clear give away to her fear. It was like he knew exactly what to say to open her freshly covered doubts and make them bleed anew.

You can't win.

No, no she couldn't win... she was no fighter. She had never been a fighter. The only battles she had ever done well had been with other Senshi... alone, she stood no chance.

I'll just have to hurt you.

Again. Like she had been by that Negaverse agent, like she had been in the Surrounding and in the battle leading up to it. She had already ended up in the hospital once... would she have to meet her parents there again?

Get him anyway... I'll drop him off there when I'm done with him...

If not for the threat, then the solution would be fine. If not for the energy draining... if she hadn't seen someone almost die from it... but there would be energy taken and it would be dangerous.

"The lesser of two evils... is still evil," she finally whispered. She opened her eyes again and gazed steadily at him. Though fear and apprehension remained in her expression, her voice took on an edge that could not be denied. "You may be genuine, but... I can't risk believing you. I don't have pride... I'm certain you'll win, but I have to try... I swore I would try. To protect them. To save them. So... I can't back down. No matter what you say or do."
PostPosted: Sun Jun 03, 2012 9:51 pm

Remarque scoffed, glancing over his shoulder once more in the direction he’d last seen the man run off in. “Look,” he said, eyes drifting back to the senshi. “I’d love to talk, you seem like a really interesting girl, but I seriously just want to nab that guy and go, okay? –So how about you just stand there and do your judging, think about who is good and who is evil, and just let me do my thing. My goal? Not to hurt senshi. In fact, I’d love if we could catch up, talk about your court, talk about mine—but not right now. Not while I’m standing ankle deep in the snow, freezing my balls off, watching my energy just running away.”

He bit the inside of his cheek; he’d spent a fair amount of time following this guy, and it wasn’t like there were a hell of a lot of people out to gather energy in this temperature. He probably could have gone and found someone else, but it was the sheer principle of the matter—he didn’t want this senshi to deprive him of his prey.

“So how about I make this easy on you?” he said in a tony that said he’d already made up his mind and didn’t particularly care what she had to think about it. “You and I, we’ll meet up again, have ourselves a nice, proper little chat, and you can thank me for not pulverizing you and for keeping my word. Hell, if you really insist on pushing my buttons, we can have a fight then, too—but in the mean time, you stay here and be grateful I’ve got better things to do than bloody you up.”

He didn’t care if she had vowed to protect or save people, but he could understand that she had taken a vow and wanted to stick to it. It was hard letting go of your beliefs, hard letting go to an idea you clung to. It wasn’t easy to walk away from something you believed in.

Remarque, however, had a simple solution. Pasiphae didn’t have to walk away, and he could still get what he wanted.

Poising himself to run again, he called, “Remarque Captive Audience*!”

Strings dipped from the sky and fastened themselves around Pasiphae’s joints. They weren’t painful, but added a strange sort of weight. Remarque was still in the process of getting familiar with his attack, however knew that he had the opening he was looking for. Content that Pasiphae would remain stuck for at least a few seconds, he bolted after the homeless man he’d followed earlier. The tracks were easy enough to follow, and in a short amount of time he’d disappeared from view.

*Strings descend on the target’s major joints and affect movement; the target is unable to move more than four feet in any direction before being jerked back to their original starting point. Limbs might feel a bit heavy, and be in a state of discomfort; the strings would cling tightly, making movements choppier and more difficult for the target to control. The strings will remain in effect for around twenty seconds until they lose strength and snap off.

Remarque's words washed over the Senshi like a tidal wave, and her gloved fingers twitched. She tried to keep a strong face, but each of his statements was a blow. Talk? He wanted to... talk? She had heard that before, and it had been true. Carnelian, however, she had been able to deter from his mission. He had not been this mixture of gentleman and ruffian, one moment soft and pleasant and the next minute chiseled stone. It unnerved her and left her momentarily unable to respond. Yet, in a moment of clarity, it occured to her that that was his intention. Distraction. He wasn't going to give up, and she had to act!

She leapt to strike at the male Senshi as he was calling forth his power--so the face full of snow came as a complete and unwelcome shock. Her arms and legs felt strangely... heavy. She struggled to raise herself from where she had fallen, but even the motion of pushing herself up on her hands was awkward and painful. Pasiphae turned her head to see thin strings attached to her elbows and her knees, and her stomach lurched. What... what was this? His power? It was holding her in place!

'No... no! I can't fail! His life is at stake... I have to keep trying!'
PostPosted: Fri Jul 06, 2012 12:47 am

Though Remarque would have liked to stay and observe his attack—not just because he wanted to watch Pasiphae struggle with it, but because he was still trying to learn its limits—he realized that his prey had plenty of time to put distance between the two.

Thankfully, however, the man he was chasing was not very smart nor very durable. The footsteps at first started off with an awkward, crooked gait a few feet in distance, though Remarque could see where he had fallen, crawled, gotten back up, and took off again. The pace quickly tapered from a heated run to an exhausted stumble, until it looked like he was dragging his feet.

The man had stayed on the sidewalk the entire time, though when those footsteps came to a stop, all Remarque had to do was follow a short path to a nearby picnic table. The man was slumped, gasping for breath—and completely oblivious to Remarque approaching.

He withdrew a shard and summoned a mirror wraith; whereas his own footsteps might have crunched in the show, the wraiths were light and silent.

Remarque, assuming the man was numb from exhaustion and cold, was sure that his prey never felt a thing.

He watched as the wraith darted around for a moment, gathering energy—watched as the man relaxed, as his breathing slowed when he drifted into unconsciousness.

He drained the man for a long moment, all the while keeping his eyes peeled to see if Pasiphae would catch up. When he didn’t see her, he knew he had the opportunity to leave the man here, let him freeze—but he didn’t.

When there was only the slight movement of breathing, Remarque approached and held out the shard, allowing the wraith to return to Mirrorspace. It was quick to react, and though Remarque assumed it had no opinion of the cold, he didn’t blame it for wanting to get out of here.

With no more than a mere grimace, he heaved the now unconscious stranger over his shoulder. There was a mirror in the area; he had used it once. The snow made it a bit more difficult to locate, though after a brief search, he found his fingers brushing across the reflective surface.

He slipped through the mirror without looking back, and though he could have deposited the man here in mirrorspace, he didn’t do that, either.

Remarque, true to his word, took the extra time and energy to mirrorwalk to the shelter, deposit the man, and slip out before anyone could notice.

It might not have been a gentle drop—the man would probably bruise in the morning, but who cared, at least he was going to wake up tomorrow—but Remarque had kept his promise.

He only hoped Pasiphae would learn.

Pasiphae kept struggling. She kept struggling even when the Dark Moon Senshi had gone from her sight. She kept struggling even when she felt the wire bite through her uniform and down to the skin. Eventually, either because she had struggled enough or beecause the magic had worn off, she was freed.

She ran in the direction she had seen her opponent go, but she found... nothing. She could see two pairs of footprints in the snow and then they just... disappeared. She could think of only one thing to do at that point. As her heart thundered in her chest, she ran towards the homeless shelter. Maybe... just maybe...

And there he was. Unconcious, but alive, at the shelter. Just as the Dark Moon Senshi had promised. All of the conflicting emotions built up inside of her again as she turned away, desperate not to be seen by anyone who would call the police on her. Why? Why had he done that? Why had he kept his word? He was corrupted, filled with Chaos, and yet?

She bit her lip against the cold and pulled her coat around her. Trudging home, she tried to keep back the doubts that the entire encounter had raised... and what it would mean when dealing with the Dark Moon Court in the future.
