The DCU library was fast becoming one of her favorite places. She liked the quiet warmth it seemed to have, even in the depths of winter. Putting her bag down on a chair to claim her spot, she turned and headed into the shelves. There was a part of Aithne that thought spending a free afternoon in the library was a waste. She liked to shove that voice away.
Heels clicking against the floor, she found her way to the history section. She pulled a couple of books off the shelf before finding one that she wanted. "Constantinople: Birth of an Empire". It was a hefty book, one that smelled a little of dust and disuse. She leafed through the book quickly, read the first page of the introduction and snapped it shut.
Pleased with her find she made her way back to her bag and the table. Aithne crossed her legs and was glad for the library heater. Wearing pinstripe stockings in mid-January was a foolish idea.

It was only the beginning of the semester, and Chris felt as though he was already getting behind. There was just too much to do, what with being a knight and double majoring. Not to mention baseball season was coming up fast and he had to get ready for that. Working out wasn't something he worried about, though. It was keeping up with his studies. It's what he got for being an overachiever, and while he knew he didn't have to double, he knew he would feel like he didn't push himself hard enough if he gave up now.
So, instead of heading home to play with his dog or help Paris out with his homework, Chris found himself at the school library, digging through books for classes he wasn't even all that interested in. English and literature was definitely at the bottom of his list, but history was a close second, and it figured that the one book he was looking for would be gone.
Not only that, but he was pretty sure he'd checked the computer and it still said the library had it!
Grumbling in frustration, anxious about not being able to complete the assignment, Chris turned from the isle in time to see some girl walk off with the very book he needed. Frowning to himself, he watched as she sat down at a table flipping through the book and just... not even checking it out. It wasn't hers until she checked it out, right?? Not that he was going to just take it from her, but... Jeez, he needed the book.
"Excuse me," he asked, approaching her table, "Are you going to be putting that back, or are you going to check it out...?" Since... that would help the system keep up with the books it had and didn't have, but what did he know?

Aithne was so absorbed in the book, Constantinople was very interesting, that she didn't notice the boy approaching the table until he spoke.
She raised her head and leveled the boy with a glacial stare. The girl did not appreciate the tone that the brunette spoke to her in, almost as if he was accusing her of something. Aithne recognized the boy, Chris something something from the baseball team. They'd met only in passing, but he was pretty well known within DCU. Well, if he needed the book, then at the very least he could be straight up about it. No point in beating around the bush.
"I'm reading it." She started as if it weren't obvious enough. A stupid answer for a stupid question.

Chris nearly sputtered at the girl's response, but managed to hold it back, straightening rather stiffly as he gave her a once-over. She was pretty... or at least nothing horrible to look at if she didn't happen to have the book he needed. The pinstripes only made her legs look longer, which was-- totally inappropriate for him to be staring. And so Chris shifted awkwardly from one foot to the other before sitting down at a chair at a table next to hers.
Pulling his bag up onto the table, he emptied it of its contents, figuring he could at least use the other books he had to start his assignment... and then he'd get the book from her later. Of course, it didn't take but a few minutes before he was tapping his pencil impatiently on the notebook and turned to the girl again.
"Are you... going to be done reading it any time soon?" he forced through his teeth and a fake smile. It wasn't usually like him to harry others like this, especially over a book. But he kind of needed that book. His good grades could very well be balancing on obtaining that book. He couldn't have his GPA drop! That was just... unacceptable.
He knew he should have asked nicer, or maybe even just give up and try to figure out some other book to get. But he needed to get his hands on it, if only for a little while.
