Danny gripped her windowsill with practiced ease, anchoring herself against the wall so she could climb up to the roof. It wasn't really easy, but after doing it so many times, she found it came with ease. Sure she couldn't just spidermonkey up the sides, but there were some ledges, some pipes sticking out here and there. It was a good thing the demon dorms were decorated in a gargoyle-y gothic style. Or at least they were around her window.
It was a little chilly out, but that was never a problem for a flame demon. Unless it was like last week, during that snowstorm ... She pushed that thought from her mind. What was unusual was the backpack slung across her back. Not full, but certainly something heavy in it.
Once aptly seated on the roof, she sighed and wrapped her arms around her legs. She'd been doing this a lot lately, hadn't she. Reaching into the backpack she'd brought, Danny pulled out a small brown box. It wasn't fancy, nor was it special. It was just a box, about the size of her torso, perhaps a tad smaller.

Being friends before getting involved with someone meant you already knew all their hidey holes. Not that Danny's would have been hard to figure out. The ghould practically had "hi I like to climb buildings" printed across her forehead.
Luckily Rikki was no stranger to the sport. When he'd stopped by her room and she'd been gone, and Roch had no idea of her whereabouts, he set off for outside the demon dorms, one wide-eyed Sir Lancelot riding along in his hood. The architecture was fancy shmancy rich kid stuff, perfect for leverage and footholds. Rikki wrapped his chains around his wrists and began his climb, using his weapon to hoist himself up.
Unfortunately, the dorms were tall, and the grim wasn't all hard steel nerves. The higher he got the more his stomach fluttered. It was pretty jacking nerve wrecking, especially when he reached the lip of the roof and his fingers slipped. Had he not pushed up with his feet against the wall at the right moment, he probably would have fallen. Lancelot was not pleased, and he squealed and chattered his displeasure rather loudly.
"Jackdammit," he grunted in harsh a whisper at the rabo. "Shut up."

It was kind of hard to miss the boil coming up the side of the wall. He was really loud. Like really loud. All of his grunts- plus Lancelot making squeaks every once in a while. Even if she hadn't figured out it was him, she knew someone was coming. Someone with chains. Someone who knew about her secret rooftop visits.
She set the box down next to her and put her head on her legs, pointedly looking away from the place he was coming up, so as to act "surprised."
When he finally heaved himself over, she turned slowly and flatly said, "Rikki." She couldn't really think of what else to say. Was this the part where she yelled at him, or kissed and made up? Punched or hugged? She wasn't really sure anymore.

...
He just climbed a jacking building for her and she sounded colder than Edel...
He was never doing nice things again.
"I ah... I brought someone to see you?" As if on cue, Lancelot peeked around Rikki's head and chattered excitedly, ended on lasting, happy churrs. He seemed pleased to see Danny, but not so much as to be inclined to leave the nest he'd made out of Rikki's hood.
Rikki padded over to Danny with light steps and lowered himself to a crouch next to her, looking out over the campus. "Demons get the best view."

Her expression softened a bit, turning into something between the real Danny, and something much sadder. The rabo really was cute. Little lancey.
As Rikki padded over to crouch next to her, it was static. Something was so incredibly awkward about it; it was romantic awkwardness, a type she'd never really experienced before. It was confusing. She wanted nothing more than to plow into his arms, but something was keeping her from doing it. It wasn't anger anymore, she'd gotten over that. So what was it?
"I guess. I've never been on the other roofs. Too hard to climb," she admitted, then bit her lip. Jackdanggit, she was supposed to be silent and stony and angry. Rikki made it hard though. She sighed and put her head on his shoulder tentatively.

He seemed to relax as she finally rested her head on his shoulder, and Lancelot took the easy access to clamber gracelessly over her and to her lap. "I'll take you up the reaper dorms one night. It's not so bad once you figure out the best place to do it." His hand fluttered to her smaller one and he wrapped his fingers around hers.
The night was probably chilly, if the light breezy that curled through the trees below was an indication, but he couldn't tell. One of the many benefits of being so near Danny. "I haven't seen you all week. What have you been up to?" He'd been worried that she'd gotten hurt while after stomping away from his dorm, and a little agitated that she hadn't come back to let him know that she hadn't, y'know, died.

She really had missed him. After having a week to cool down (figuratively speaking, of course. For a flame demon to cool down is preposterous), and talking it out with Yin, she'd realized there wasn't much point to their argument. She wasn't angry, just awkward.
Luckily Rikki took the reigns for her, putting his hand in hers. Danny still didn't venture to look at him; she was too scared of what she might find. Anger would be bad, but acceptance? That somehow felt scarier. She chuckled softly as the Rabo came to sit in her lap, and shivered a little in the night air. Rikki may have been warm, but she was getting colder by the second.
"Mmmm. I went to Roch's house for Christmastival," she said plainly, not really wanting to dwell on it, "Then ... just went back to classes. Its weird how everyone just went back to normal."
Her eyes passed over her box to the left. She had actually come up here to debate destroying it, but it seemed as though Rikki had spared the brown package. "Oh! Um. Here, this is for you," she said, letting go of his hand to pull the package up and onto his lap.

He nodded, understanding how she felt. "That's kind of just how it works here. Something major happens, and then everyone shrugs their shoulders and gets on with their lives." It was strange, no doubt, but he was almost getting used to it.
When the package landed in his lap his brows lifted in surprise. He hadn't expected her to give him anything. Worse, he hadn't gotten her anything. Did that make him a bad boilfriend? Probably. "What is it?" he asked, more to stall than to actually find out.

Danny pouted back in her childish way. Excitedly she began, "It's a-" then she paused and realized her error. "Wait no. Nonono. It's a present. That's not how they work!" She nudged him to continue. Stupid Rikki. Almost made her spill the pumpkin seeds!

"Fine, fine," he breathed softly, lifting the present and giving it a little shake. It was light and made soft sounds in the box. Like clothes. Had Danny asked someone what a christmastival gift was and been told socks? He wouldn't put it past her to do just that.
He tore through the cardboard without finesse and fingered the soft material the was revealed. Oh my jack she really had gotten him socks. Except as he pulled them out of the box he realized they were less plural and more huge and square. And soft. So soft. He rubbed his face against the fabric in an almost girly way before fingering the stars on the midnight material. "Danny this is... this is really nice."

Danny wasn't about to let Rikki enjoy the present. She unfolded it right in his hands, unveiling the tiny scene that took place on the blanket. It was a darkish blue color, one that had reminded her of the reaper sitting next to her, and it was covered in silvery little stars. There was a moon on the left half, accompanied by a sun on the right. (LIKE SYMBOLISM...)
And suddenly teenage ghoul insecurity. "Um, I picked it out with Roch so if you want to return it or anything I can go run it back to the store and-"

He planted a kiss on her lips before she could keep going, knowing no other way to make her shut up. "I love it," he murmured, just centimeters from her lips. "Thank you. Seriously." Not only had he not expected a gift, but he hadn't expected one he so thoroughly enjoyed. Not that he didn't enjoy Lancelot, but Lancelot didn't lay still on his bed while he slept until noon like a blanket would.
"I don't have anything for you," he frowned.

Danny smiled and leaned on his shoulder again. "I don't need anything." Well it was a bit of a lie. Had she expected the same warm gift giving (was warm even the right word?) like at Roch's ... dinner thing? Maybe just a tad, but the disappointment was short-lived. After all, why would Rikki bring his present up to the roof with him? That just seemed silly.
She hooked her arm with his and shivered a little. It was progressively getting colder. She pretended it didn't bother her.
"How was Christmastival for you?" she said awkwardly. Having not seen him for a while, Danny wasn't really sure what he'd done in the mean time. Maybe it was just time for them to catch up. It would at least break the awkwardness of not talking, right?

Lielielie. It just made him feel bad. Whenever someone said they didn't need something they might as well have been kicking you in the head screaming at you for being an uncaring jerk. He should have gotten her something, and they both knew it.
"Uh, it was like any other day I guess," he admitted, fidgeting with the edge of his new blanket. "Nothing special went on. Except Ruska was grumpy. I've never seen him grumpy before. I think Rakkwin took his food or something."

Danny looked at him sypathetically. She'd had quite a few ordinary-day Christmastivals herself. Having busy parents meant they were already partying at someone else's house. Oersted usually went with them when he was little, while Danny opted to stay home, much to the relief of her parents. Of course, as he got older, Oersted didn't even bother coming home for Christmastival. He usually just sent some dumb card or something.
What was she doing thinking of Oersted at a time like this? She tried to think of everything else she did in the week they were estranged. She remembered classes ... not doing much exciting really.
Another thought occured to her. "Oh!" she said squeezing his arm a little in the process, "Hey, today is New Octobers Day, isn't it?"
