User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Alice walked through the forest located 40klicks away from her house searching for signs of animal life. She was hunting a rather large animal because it had demolished part of her house when she was gone a few nights ago. It was cool out for the night was relatively young but she kept warm despite wearing her usual outfit.
Alice kept her bow ready as she silently strode through the forest. Thanks to her shapeshifting abilities her hearing was twice that of a human, so she knew she was on the right path. She took off at a run somehow still remaining silent so she could capture the beast.
When she got close enough she slowed, stilled her heart and prepared her bow. She called out "Hey you!"
The beast swung around and just looked at her. She was surprised to hear the beast speak"What do you want?"
She took a closer look now that she was up close and realized that it was a partially shifted werewolf.
"Why did you destroy my house?" She demanded. She didnt like dealing with other shapeshifters especially weres. They made her want to crawl out of her skin.
"I did?" he seemed bewildered. He thought for a moment, "oh yes. I am sorry about that. I was going to take refuge at your house for it was late at night but you werent home. I didnt mean to destroy your house it was just a side effect of the change"
She stared at him and thought to herself, a side effect...yeah right, and then decided that she couldnt deal with him any longer.
"All i ask for is that next time you stay off the porch if you know a shift is going to happen." With that said she turned and walked away from him.

Daegal Barras silently viewed the woman below his tree with narrowed eyes. He could not be sure if she was human, but he hoped that she was not. He had sworn to defend his ancestral territory from all humans. He and his people were a well-kept secret in Otherworld. But with settlers pushing into their territory, they knew it could not remain this way.

He watched silently as she conversed with a werewolf below. "Aavard, you idiot," he whispered silently. The elders would not be pleased to hear that the young wolf had destroyed a settler woman's home with his changing. She stormed off back toward her home and Daegal swooped down from the trees. "Aavard, what have you done?"

"What anyone would have done. It was late and I could smell the rain coming!" He snarled at Daegal. "Barras, you know as well as I do that she never would have known I was there."

"Unless you changed and demolished her house you fool!"

"We can't all be like you and your people! Some of us need shelter above ground! And not in the trees," he added, foreseeing Daegal's retort. "Well, next time you ought to be more careful. Find an abandoned home, dig a hole, I don't care. Just quit causing trouble for me before I take the throne. I can't do anything to keep them from exiling you until I am king. So just hold off on the needless and brainless destruction for another four months, okay?"

Aavard growled in an annoyed agreement before taking a long glance through the trees where the woman disappeared and slinking off to the south. "Well," said Daegal as a raven flew to his shoulder, a gold ring in it's mouth, "What do you make of that?"

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Alice set about repairing her home. Something about the conversation between her and the werewolf bothered her...she felt like she was being watched she thought as she toiled away. It didn't take her long to clear away the damage but as she inspected the internal structure, she realized that she would have to rebuild her hut. She cursed silently, then she got that same feeling again. She grabbed her bow and whirled around, looking for the source of that feeling. She didn't see anything but that didn't mean anything was there. She decided that since the night was still young, she could go for a run. She shifted form into a wolf, her one animal shift for the night but she could shift into the wolf as many times as she needed. She ran into the forest letting her mind wander...observe. Alice spotted a raven up in the trees watching her. She stopped midstride, claws digging into the ground and stared right back. Then she noticed a man next to the raven.
She growled and reached her thoughts out Who are you? What are you doing here? What do you want?

Daegal felt the wolf girl reach out to him, but his sheild was strong. He simply waved away the unwanted contact. He stared at her for a long moment, and she at him. "Go," he whispered to the raven perched at his side. It flew low, circling the wolf, finally snatching a small tuft of hair. The wolf snarled and swatted at the raven. It deftly soared out of reach and returned to Daegal. He took the hair with a black gloved hand; a gold ring on his gloved finger started to glow bright and burn when he took it. The ring turned the hair to ashes which he let seep through his fingers and float away on a gentle passing breeze. "I see," he said softly, surveying the wolf through narrowed eyes. He leapt from the tree and landed almost silently in front of the wolf. "This isn't your only form." He felt another attempt at communication and dismissed it immediately. "Curious. You're not ripping me to shreds... You're not a 'were' like Aavard, are you?"

The raven flew to his shoulder. "Right. Time to go," he said to the raven, turning his back on the shifter. "I'll see you again soon. When you least expect it," he added, looking back over his shoulder. He turned on the spot and vanished into thin air.

Bad things could happen when people stole hair. She shifted into her human form and regained her bearings. She took off at a run pushing away her fears and doubts to simply enjoy her surroundings. Then she found it, the copse of trees that would rebuild her house and make it twice as strong. She made a mental note of her surroundings and got a strange scent from the air. She made a mental note of that as well. She shifted into her wolf form once more and raced for home. Once she reached home she found that her home had already been repaired. What in the world is going on?She snorted in amazement. Her home was built to last. Then she noticed the were and her hackles raidlsed unintentionally. Her wolf spirit didnt like them, thought them to be abominations. She quieted Kade and then reached out mentally towards the were. His shields weren't quite as strong.

Aavard felt the girl's presence and her animosity toward him. He supposed he couldn't blame her. He did destroy her home, after all. Somehow, he felt her hatred ran deeper. He surveyed her closely from the shadows and felt her reach out to him. He shuddered, not used to contact. He wasn't very fond of it, feral as he was. He had been cast out from his people and no one would accept him for being a were. I'm sorry I destroyed your home. I've repaired it the best I could. I'll go now, he told her. He took off, brushing past her. He ran at inhuman speed, dodging trees and kicking off the trunks to jump higher and higher. Once he was out of sight in a far off canopy, he turned back to watch her inspect his handywork. Aavard felt proud of his carpentry skills and smiled to himself before begining the long trek back to his cave on the remote northern coast. No one has ever explored that far, not even Barras's people, he thought with a spark of satisfaction. He jumped from the tree and set off at a run for the mountains.

The rain began to pour about halfway through the mountain terrain, but he hardly seemed to mind for once. All he could think about was the girl in the woods and whether or not she was dry inside her home. Are my repairs holding up? Is the roof leaking? What if a tree is struck by lightning and falls on her roof? He pushed the questions from his mind and concentrated on his footing. The full moon had just come the night before, so he could not manage a wolf form for very long. The closer it came to the full moon, the easier was to stay in form - until of course the full moon itself, where he would lose control and not be able to be human. Aavard clenched his jaw in frustration. He hated what he was.

He slipped his footing on a ledge and tumbled down as lightning flashed and thunder rolled. His arm caught a rock and ripped a long and jagged cut down his right arm and across his chest. He felt his anger well up inside of him and let out a howl of fury. With a flash, his body was consumed by a white fire and he turned into the wolf once more. His fur was thick and light, like his human hair, but his eyes turned from yellow to a deep blood red. The long and silver chained talisman he always wore around his neck as a self-inflicted punishment burned him. He felt the anger coursing through his veins, poisoning him and pulling him further away from humanity. What's the point, he remarked in despair. He allowed his transformation consume him and ran into the night, howls ripping from his chest as he went. The hunt was on.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Alice stared after the werewolf. She couldnt figure him out: he accidentally destroys her home and then repairs it and doesnt even stick around for her to say thank you. She'd have to work on the animosity issue because he didnt fit the stereotypical wolves she knew. Pushing the issue aside for the moment Alice turned to examine the exterior of the house. It was beautifully crafted amd had excellent workmanship. She walked all around the outside of the house and it met her expectations. She entered the house and was surprised by the amount of space that met her eyes. The were did a good job. I will have to thank him whether he wants it or not. She thought.
Alice took care of her bow setting it by the door and settled in for the night. She heard a howl in the distance and it made her wolf spirit sing.

Without a moments hesitation, she flung open the door and raced to the source of the howl. She traveled throughtl the forest leaping over fallen logs and running through creeks. She shifted her body and embraced her wolf. She felt her muscles contract and expand as she flew through the forest. Finally she reached her destination and saw the werewolf. Silence fell as they stared at each other

Anger surged through Aavard as memories flashed before him. His hard life as a slave, being whipped and sold from owner to owner; the tanner from the White Woods setting him free; learning to make leather belts and boots under his direction; the tanner's young daughter calling him her older brother - He felt greif color the anger and pushed it away. Next came the memory of werewolf's bite as he closed the shop after working alone late one night to finish an order; he remembered how his new family and friends chased him from the village and cast him out when they learned of the bite. Another wave of rage. They betrayed me, he snarled angrily, They took everything from me! He let another howl rip from deep within. That's when he sensed her. A wolf.

Their eyes locked and he felt a strange calm consume him. When the anger had subsided, he was suddenly very aware that he was still bleeding profusely from his arm and his chest. He was afraid the other wolf would see this as a weakness and attack. He took off through the trees as fast as he could manage, a slight panic forming behind the pain. She followed with ease.

He flew past trees, hills, and vales; past cliffs and across streams, finally breaking through the trees and into the mountains. She was still keeping pace, he noted. He was determined to outrun her in his injured state; an attack was sure to come if she could get the advantage.

They pounded up a steep path only wolves would be able to travel, though it was clear only he had. She was running next to him now. She seemed to be wating for him to stop running, perhaps waiting for the injury to take its toll. He knew he would not be able to fight her in this state. His only hope was to outrun her.

Finally, the coast and the ocean lay before them. The sun was setting into the ocean, the moon not far off to the right - a bright silvery orb. He pushed every last bit of energy into his muscles and sprinted for the beach, pulling out ahead of her by yards. The pain was too much - his form slipped and he collapsed in the sand, the foamy waves gently flowing around him. He was human again. The silver amulet ceased it's burning just as the wolf came to a stop and stood before him.

He propped himself up on his elbow, clasping his injured right arm to his chest; his breathing was shallow and ragged. He closed his eyes tight, bracing himself for the attack he was sure would come, his blood pouring into the sand. He felt himself growing pale and he knew he was beginning to fade. Aavard reached out to the wolf. Make it quick...

Alice laid down by the were. She could smell the blood and started licking the wound clean. The were flinched at first but then lay still. You should rest. Your injured and did a very dumb thing by running. You should have sensed i wasnt going to harm you. You're the one that repaired my house...thank you. My name is Alice and yours would be? She spoke to him through her telepathy. Soon the wound was clean and no longer bleeding freely.

Alice shifted to her mortal form. Kneeling beside him she check the were over for injuries. He was too exhausted to protest amd let her touch him. She could feel the muscle underneath his skin. She usually steered away from male wolves in any race but this one made her feel feminine inside. She looked around and saw a cave nearby. Alice half carried half dragged him to the cave. She was surprised to see it filled with materialistic items that must be his. She dragged him over to the bed and put him on the bed.

Making sure that his wounds didnt reopen Alice got him as comfortable as she could get him. She explored the cave waiting for him to wake up.User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Aavard fell into a feverish dream. The beautiful woman was sitting next to him on the beach as the sun was setting. He knew her name was Alice, though how he knew was a mystery. She was wearing a light blue dress with a light pink sash and she was barefoot. The wind blew through her hair; he reached out and let a strand slip through his fingers. She smiled at him as he did so, warming him to his very core. He felt his heart skip a beat as the memory of what had happened struck him. "Alice, you have to leave. There is a wolf here somewhere." She nodded. "I know." He felt the same calm as before wash over him. They sat there in silence as the sun sank lower and the clouds cleared. As the moon peeked out, he felt the panic rise again. "I'm a werewolf." She nodded again. "It's the full moon. You have to go. It's not safe." She began drawing on the ground. "Let's make something out of sand." He sat in front of her on his knees, placing his hands on her shoulders and shaking her gently. "You have to leave. I could hurt you." Aavard felt his body contort as the white fire ripped through his body. "Run!" Alice merely grabbed his hand and squeezed it tightly. He fought it as hard as he could. "Alice, run now! Go!" Her hand remained in his as she continued to smile brightly at him. "Don't worry. I'm not leaving. I'm here," she said soothingly. He felt tears trickle down his face, realizing he was powerless to help her. He shifted. When he returned to his senses, he found a young female wolf patiently sitting where Alice had been. She nudged him playfully.

Aavard woke with a jerk and soon wished he hadn't as pain flooded his torso. He clenched his jaw. When the pain dulled, he realized that he was home and, to his surprise, he was not alone. Alice was busy examining his meager worldly posessions - his mother's silver and sapphire ring, his father's hand-carved whale bone pipe, a satin box of trinkets, and a set of knives were all on a shelf carved out of the cave wall. Below this was a hide sack of provisions and his clothing. Alice picked through his clothes curiously. There were a few silk shirts, a thick fur cloak, a fur blanket similar to the one on his bed, and underneath it all, an assortment of more humble and practical clothing. She picked up a crimson silk shirt curiously. "My family were nobles back east before the plague claimed their lives," Aavard told Alice. She jumped. "After their death, I set out through the Badlands to the White Woods to make a new life. Before I could reach the White Woods, I was captured and sold into slavery. When I was freed, my posessions were returned to me," he explained. He stared at her and she at him.

"Aavard, get out here now or I will come in there and shred you!" Aavard lept to his feet, tearing his wounds open again. Alice started forward, but he held a hand out to stop her. Daegal burst into the cave; Aavard pulled Alice behind him. "Where the hell have you been? The elders have been breathing down my neck about you! You've been hunting in restricted grounds again! The blood was everywhere and they have half a mind to hunt you down and - " Daegal caught sight of Alice stepping out from behind Aavard. "The shifter girl returns! I see this is a bad time," he laughed. Aavard ignored this. "I wasn't hunting. I was bleeding," he snarled angrily, motioning to his wounds. "Oh, well that's different," he replied, seeming thoroughly uninterested now. "Well, I'll leave you to it." He winked at Alice and in a plume of black smoke, he was gone.

Aavard slumped to the bed; his wound was flowing freely. He bit his lip to keep from shouting out until it bled too. The pain allayed once more. He turned to Alice. "You're still here. Why? Not that I am ungreatful," he added hastily. He shook his head. She seemed to muddle his thoughts whenever she was near. "I'm Aavard," he smiled at her. It feels strange to smile after all this time, he thought, staring into her eyes, But if she smiles, I can learn to get used to it.

He wasnt really as intimidating when he was weakened with an injury. She moved forward to rebandage his wound. Her touch was light as she probed the wound. Because he was a were his system would heal the wound faster than mortals could. She noticed that it was daylight out. She walked out of the cave into the bright sunlight. Facing the sun she sang a song of welcoming. She felt Aarvard come up behind her and waited for her to finish singing.
She turned to face him when she was done and stared at him. Alice couldnt get over the fact that they were so similar. He stood about a foot taller then her and his broad shoulders made her feel so weak..so feminine. She walked back to the cave and continued to examine his belongings. She felt so much pain and anguish emanating from him. Part of her telepathy was to be an empath. Her heart reached out and wanted to take his pain all away.
Alice sat on the bed and waited for him to speak. She fell in love with his gravely baritone voice and couldnt wait to hear more of it.

Aavard wasn't quite sure what to do with himself as he watched her bandage him; her touch was gentle and careful. He felt his stomach flutter. He wasn't sure why, as he'd never felt it before and he wasn't quite sure he liked it. It had been a long time since someone had done something kind for him, knowing that he was what he was. In fact, he couldn't recall a time. Sure, Daegal allowed him to roam and hunt in his kingdom, but he would never go as far as Alice did to see that he was healing. And once he was king... He shook his head slowly to clear his thoughts.

He watched Alice walk to the mouth of the cave and sing. He had never heard such beautiful singing. He stepped closer without realizing; the emotion he felt was strong - for some reason, the beauty of it intensified his heart break. He waited for her to finish her song before he spoke; she turned to stare at him and he forgot what it was he wanted to tell her. Alice continued to examine his things. Aavard watched her carefully, feeling detatched from her and their surroundings, consumed as he was by greif. As she moved to sit on the thick fur blanket of his bed, he felt lost once more. She stared at him expectantly. He turned his back quickly, unable to face her. He had shown weakness in front of someone he hardly knew. He felt a surge of anger at himself and grabbed the thing nearest to him to conceal his trembling hands - a jug of water. He set about filling two wooden chalices he carved himself, concentrating on not spilling a single drop. He became calm once more and handed her a chalice; it was carved with a single wolf in a forest, a cresent moon peaking through the trees. The wolf's head hung low to the ground, full of sorrow and loneliness. An arrow protruded from his paw. He held on to the other, one carved with roaring lions, banners, and men on horses following behind the majestic lion.

Why can't I think straight? What the hell is wrong with me, he wondered, she must think I am a fool. He watched her take a cautious sip of the water. "Is it cold enough," he asked her, "I'll go fetch some more, if you like. Or something to eat?"

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Alice accepted the chalice from Aavards outstretched hand. She took a small sip of the cool, refreshing water. She spoke in her melodic voice, "Something to eat would be nice, thank you." She watched him carefully; she was still a little leery about being this close to a male were because she had avoided them her whole life. Why do i feel this way? I've just met him. she thought to herself making sure that her thoughts didn't spill over to the mental link they shared.

Alice watched him tremble for a moment and then collect himself. She could relate to the trembling and the usual methods to collect the calm they both needed. If she was upset, her wolf spirit liked to take over at times and she'd find herself running to who knows where. She felt herself grow more comfortable, relaxed the more she sat there.

"However, do you mind if we travel to my house? I need to check on a few things. As well as grab my weapons. We can eat there if you'd like" Alice interrupted Aavards concentration. She met his wild dark eyes with her calm, cool ones. "Plus you're still injured. I'd like you to take it relatively easy today." She couldn't wait to get home but she'd be happy just staying by him.

Aavard was wary of Alice as she mentioned weapons. Perhaps she was going to capture him and sell him; he knew of those who would pay handsomely for a warewolf. They wanted to find a "cure", but more often than not, they only found ways to kill them slowly and painfully. For all he knew, this was her plan all along. However, the longer he gazed into her eyes, the more he found he didn't care. He just wanted to feel accepted, at least for a little while longer. He could deal with the pain later, as long as he had the memory of this. He nodded, somewhat reluctantly and pulled on a green silk shirt carefully, buttoning only the last three holes to keep the shirt from irritating his wounds. He held his amulet and sang a song of his people as he strapped a knife in each boot, and one to his left side. He shouldered the hide sack, running the strap across his chest and made sure it was strapped to him securely. It bothered his wound, but he knew it was necessary for him to gather provisions for his dinner tonight. He strode to the mouth of the cave, pacing from one side to the other in carefully measured strides, his hands raised up chest-height, palms upward. He continued his song, making sure the enchantment was strong.

When his song was finished, there was a faint shimmering wall at the mouth of the cave. He beckoned Alice through it and they made their way back toward the beach. The wind blew the salty scent of the ocean toward them. He closed his eyes and took it all in, waiting for Alice to speak.
