It had not been much longer than a day or two since Ro’ery had arrived at the lands and been informed that his acceptance in to it would requir him to not only duel a member, but tie or best them. Didn’t sound too bad. He was certainly not the weakest of lions, but these lions had grown up training to fight. Ro shrugged it off. No big deal. He was sure he could beat whoever it was he would fight.

Shortly before mid day he made his way back to the borders of the land, chest puffed out slightly. “I got this. Beat up any lion they throw at me, maybe their best. They’ll be beggin’ me to join them.” Ro was ready for this. Completely. He slowed his pace as he neared the southern outpost once more, eying every lion he saw, not completely sure how this was gonna play out.

It had been a while since she had actually been out of the dens. Having been taking care of five hungry mouths would do that to a lady. Despite being exhausted from the work, she found herself in the mood for a duel and had caught wind of a large, mostly white male that had been around the borders, seeming to want to join their ranks.

"Are you sure you should be out fighting so soon?" Her faithful vulture companion asked as he flew overhead. The small firekin looked up towards Kuku and nodded. "Why not? I've been out of a commission long enough. I've missed the thrill of fighting another." With a shake of his head, the pair continued on until they caught sight of her challenge. A large white male with tribal-esque markings on his pelt.

"You there!" She yelled, a grin on her face. "I suppose you're the challenger that I've been told about?"

A lioness came towards him, a rather small thing at that. “I had expected someone..” He paused, quirking a brow at her. “bigger.” Compared to most he saw she was pretty small. He watched her for a moment, unsure of exactly what do to. Ro supposed it was not too surprising to face a lioness, in this pride even they must be pretty tough, but it was her size he couldn’t get past.

“Well if beatin’ you will get me in, then fine.” A cocky grin spread across his face as he crouched, pausing only for a moment before charging towards her. “Best be ready!” The distance between them melted quickly beneath his paws, and with only a few feat left he lunged, one paw striking out at the female’s front legs.

"I'm always ready!" Or so she thought until her competitor lunged for her. Zara roared with pain as the claws from the male ran over the skin beneath her fur on her front legs. She stepped back, her eyes quickly looking to her leg. It was same one that Chamase had badly injured in her previous duels. Her silver eyes flashed back to look at the male. He was at least a good fight, having already landed a hit on her body. Kuku had already flown to roost on a withered tree, or what was left of one from days not remembered. He observed the fight, hopping from side to side to keep his eye on the lioness. "You got this, girl!" The feathered companion called out as Zara took her own swing at the challenger.

A grin spread across Ro'ery's face as his attack struck. "This is going to be easy." He mumbled to himself. Before he could toss out another attack the lioness sent one of her own. Ro'ery just managed to hiss, claws passing harmlessly through the tip of his mane as he pulled himself backwards. "Almost got me there." He said, his previous cocky grin once more across his face. She was a tough little lady, that was for sure. He thought he had her with that first attack, was sort of hoping to floor her and maybe she'd give up, but he wasn't going to be so lucky.

"That all you got?" Ro'ery taunted, taking a few more steps back to put some distance between them. "And here I thought this was going to be a challenge." He continued, head cocking to the side as he smirked at the female.

There was no way she was going to lose that easily to some new comer. Lose, sure. She might, but not without some kind of fight. Zara was vastly disappointed in herself with her first strike missing, but at least it wouldn't be the only attempt she got at the cocky male in front of her. "You haven't won just yet." The Firekin snarled as she lunged at the male with the intent to push him to the ground and immobilize him. Perhaps she'd at least manage to knock him unsteady, trip him or something with the sudden body slam. Maybe there was still time to turn this duel around and pull out the victor.

Kuku, her ever faithful avian companion hopped nervously on his tree perch as he watched the duel continue on. With her first strike missing, the vulture had opted to keep his beak shut as to allow her more concentration even though it was hard to do. Oh how could he just sit there and watch without commenting in at least some way?! It was so unlike him!

The cocky grin was quickly replaced by a look of surprise as the female lunged at him. Even with the extra distance he had put between them she was still on him far too fast for him to dodge. He tried to brace himself for the impact, though despite her smaller size she still slammed into him with a surprising amount of force. Ro'ery hit the ground hard, the sudden impact knocking the wind out of him.

Before he could fully regain his breath he struck out, swinging a paw blindly. Even if he missed it may have been enough to at least get her to back off enough for him to get back on his feet, at at the moment that was really all he was aiming for.

The erratically swipes that the other were making at her body caused Zara to retract quickly, stepping back so quickly to the point she almost tripped over herself in the process. All this while making swipes of her own, not expecting to actually hit him in any way. Her claws dug into the sand beneath her as she kept her traction well enough. Luckily she had adjusted quickly to the burning sands and now her paw pads were toughened to the point the searing heat did little to stop her from moving. This rogue was definitely proving himself to be a capable warrior and one worthy of being within the Firekin. If she ended up losing to him, at least it was to a fine warrior.

The white and red bird couldn't help but shake his head. This duel was going so far south so quickly and he knew it. She had only gotten one hit in so far and the pregnancy that Zara was still recovering from wasn't helping either. "Come on girl!" Kuku squawked out, his wings flapping a bit while he did so. She had yet to win a duel since her joining one against Iirte and losing this one now while trying to get back up on her feet would be..horrible, but if nothing else it was practice and practice was always nice, even if it was in the form of a loss. Learning from one's mistakes right?

All his blind attacks had missed, however he had also managed to roll back onto his own paws without getting hit by Zara's own attacks. Luck perhaps, as he had not been very careful though his movements to right himself. He didn't care, he just didn't want to be on the ground any longer. Even for being so small she was still one tough lady, and Ro'ery's cockiness had temporarily left him as he concentrated on the battle at hand.

With a loud snarl he charged forward. Somehow, despite a bit of slipping in his attempts to gain traction on the sand, he still managed to get into a good run. As he came closer he leapt forward, body twisting slightly as he threw himself bodily at her. He was beyond caring how stupid his tactics were, he just wanted to win.

She had still been recovering from moving back so quickly when her challenger leapt towards her. Zara had no time to react and was quickly overwhelmed when she suddenly found herself tumbling onto her back, the larger male over her. The lioness was less then pleased with how the duel had so far turned out and while her body struggled to respond to her demands with her energy running low and breathing shallow, she still managed to put her effort into her rear legs. She placed her back legs on the male's stomach, putting her remaining energy into pushing him up and off of her.

The vulture leaning forward, intently watching the display of a lion's power that was going on in front of him. It was always awe inspiring to see the titans clash in such a manner even if it was only a duel and wasn't really a life or death situation. Of course it would have been different if a life depended on it. That didn't mean it was any less exciting for Kuku as his grey eyes watched intently.

The attack had worked and the female was now pinned under him. However it didn't last long. His attempts to keep her pinned were quickly thwarted as the female managed to get her hind paws up under him and kick up. Another surprising show of strength as he found himself going upwards. He managed to keep his back paws on the ground as the rest of his body arched backwards, before he came crashing back down on to the ground. The air left his lungs in a rush as he hit the sand.

Ro'ery didn't let that last long though. Even as he gasped for air he pulled himself back up and with all the strength he could muster he spun on the female. One paw swung out, aiming for the female, anywhere he could manage to hit.

The male's paw hit and hit her face as well. The hit sent Zara reeling as she hunched over, staring at the sand beneath her. With a panting breath, the lioness contemplated turning around and attempting another hit on her challenger but that was not his first or second hit in this duel and he was certainly had more energy left to spend. No, this duel was over, she had lost as she was already close to collapsing from the several hits the male had gotten on her and her already low reserve.

"Enough. You have proven yourself to be welcome within our ranks. I am Zara, allow me to be the first of our kind you meet. I'll escort you to our inside of pride, there you will be made official."

Kuku quickly left his post and circled overhead the red and black Firekin while his black eyes watched the male while Zara pulled herself back up. "Come on then." He told him as the vulture followed the soldier as she made her way back to pride and away from the borders.

After his paw had connected Ro'ery took a few quick, though unsteady, steps backwards. He readied himself for her next move while attempting to steady his breathing, however none came. Instead she spoke. He waited for a moment, somewhat skeptical, before deciding it was not some ruse to let his guard down.

"Over already? And here I was just getting started." Ro let out a shaky laugh. He was glad the duel had ended when it did, he didn't know how much longer he could have actually lasted. "I'm Ro'ery." He said, forcing himself to stand up straight despite any protests from his aching body. He was eager to see the inside of the pride as he followed Zara.
