Samehe had lost everything, but what did she really have to begin with? She had been born into a pride that was thrown into turmoil when she grew up. Her sister was gone now, and the bond she had shared with her had been shattered. Samehe had made her choice for the pride, but that pride was now gone. Perhaps it would have been better for her to flee the Mizimu when she had the chance. The weight on her shoulders surely would have been lessened, right? Maybe her and her sister would be standing side by side now... It wasn't meant to be.
That thought rang with deafening volume in the center of her mind. That thought alone was enough to make the young lioness stop in her tracks. Truthfully, Samehe had no idea where she was. What she could recall about her aimless travels was little. She knew she ate, she knew she drank and slept. Samehe knew she was alive, but what good was that when she had lost everything else in the process of living? Her eyes cast downwards, focusing on the soft grass beneath her paw pads. This was rich land, fertile land, and she didn't even want to stay here. She had nothing to stay here for.
All she had to do was keep moving... and achingly she realized she couldn't even do that. The spotted lioness sat down, not bothering to seek for shelter from the sun because the thought hadn't even occured to her. "Spirits..." she breathed. Spirits were not going to help her.

Humusi was very curious of the lands out beyond his pride, but often felt too nervous to go too far away. In fact, he'd always kept pride rock in the distance, if there was a chance of it disappearing than he would turn around and head back to his homelands. Yesterday he'd finally worked up the courage though, he'd left during the night. He promised himself everything would go fine, he would be able to find his way back. So far, so good. He'd moved through most of the night, but not much was very interesting. He'd slept, he'd woken up to the beautiful sunrise and morning birds... everything was lovely, but not much different from his homelands.
Maybe besides the lack of lions... but there must have been a reason that he'd decided to slip into the rogue lands. His paws had been so itchy, his mind restless and he just had a feeling of... of something in his guts. His dark tail gave a flick and his stomach a playful rumble... was he hungry already? He chewed on his bottom lip, ears twitching. That meant hunting, and he wasn't the best at hunting. He sighed but decided to get determined, picking up his pace and trying to keep silent.
It wasn't long before his green eyes took in the sight of a large, fat rabbit! He froze, crouching down low to the ground. He bounded forward, but so did the prey. He raced after the rabbit, his heart pumping. It was exciting!
Well... he raced forward until suddenly there was something spotted right in his way, almost right under-paw! She was laying so still that he hadn't had time to see her in advanced. "Yipes! Look out!" He tried to cry out, but it was no help. As he tried to stop short he felt his paws catch and he fell forward, right onto the stranger! Gods above, he hoped she didn't get hurt!

She was lost in her own thoughts, distracted by her own past, far too much of a past for a lioness her age to have. Not all things may have been right in the Mizimu, but certainly not all of it had been wrong. Samehe had found her place there, her purpose, even if it was a lowly purpose. That was better than nothing for a lioness who knew not much else. Oh, how she wished things hadn't changed. She wished these things did not slip through the grasp of her claws.
...She heard something, and for a moment she was sure that it was a voice, but it possibly couldn't be. The lioness lifted her head and looked over her shoulder, just in time to see a giant brown blurr right in front of her face. She didn't have time to identify who or what it was barreling towards her, because he suddenly collided into the startled lioness. Samehe yelped as he fell forward and landed smacked onto her back. It didn't hurt as much as it was suddenly very uncomfortable.
"Get off!" she screeched in a voice that she hadn't truly heard in weeks. Samehe struggled underneath the lion's weight, but was smaller and weaker than the male. She also had no idea what was going on, which was likely going to start making her panic any minute now.

Oh gods, oh gods, oh gods! Why was he such a dope? He couldn't do anything right! No, that wasn't true... but how embarrassing this was! And surprising! He hadn't seen another lion around the whole morning... so why now, at the worst possible moment ever? He was trying to scramble to his paws, to clamber off of her, but his nervousness was made worse when she screeched at him to get off! "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" He yelped, finally pulling himself off and rolling away. He lay on his side panting, his eyes shut as he tried to gather himself. Wait! Maybe she'd shouted like that because he'd hurt her? His eyes flashed open and he was suddenly scrambling to his feet, turning.
His dark green eyes met her own, equally green and dark in color. He blinked, his gaze flicking over her pelt before he swallowed and met her gaze again. He mentally scolded himself, feeling slightly embarrassed. He really shouldn't have been thinking about how pretty she was before checking on her! He should be ashamed! "A-are you okay, did I hurt you? I'm sorry! I was hunting, I didn't see you! I mean.. when I did see you it was already too late! Please, you aren't hurt, right?" And now he was trying to move around her, checking out her limbs and such to look for any scrapes or maybe... no. She definitely couldn't have broken a bone from that, right? He'd tried to keep as much of his weight off of her as he could... but it was pretty hard once gravity took hold of you!
Spots littered almost her entire pelt, and he had to keep making himself focus on looking for hurts, not her spots! Only when he got back around to the front of her did he see the pretty stripes decorating her chest. She did not look like any of the pridelanders he knew.. right! He wasn't in the pridelands right now! Where was his mind right now?

The lion had finally managed to scramble off of her, and Samehe was quick enough herself to get back onto her own four legs. She wasn't seriously hurt, but her body ached in ways she wasn't accustomed to. She was used to the bottom of her paws hurting over rocky terrains, the stretching of the tendons in her legs. These were the aches and pains that she was used to... not being nearly suffocated by another lion. At least he seemed... apologetic, but Samehe was still suspicious. A lot of the lions met wandering between pridal lands were not the nice kind. Samehe had learned to avoid nearly all of them.
He was... staring at her. She wasn't dumb enough to miss it, but noticing it made her feel a little awkward. Thank the gods that blushing didn't show through her fur, but the way she averted her gaze may have hinted towards the fact that she had noticed him noticing her. What any reasonable lioness would do is to tell him to keep his eyes to himself, but she had been far too long without company from any sort of feline species. She had no idea what to do in this situation. "I'm fine," she answered, voice rough from lack of use. Her throat was even mildly sore from her screeching earlier. "You don't have to worry you didn't..."
She lost her train of thought, and was sure that she was blushing through her fur now as he circled around her. Samehe suddenly felt like she was under inspection. Instinctively she sat up straight, trying to convince herself that he was only looking for injuries and not... well, eyeing every part of her body. Maybe she should be frank with him, and explain to him what it looked like he was doing. But... that was too embarrassing to contemplate further. Samehe would just have to suck it up. This male had completely caught her off guard and she couldn't find proper footing anymore. "Ummm... I'm okay, really."

He didn't notice he was making her feel awkward, in fact he thought he was the only one feeling awkward. Mostly awkward with himself, because he was inwardly being very rude to this female when he should only be focused on helping her! But when he'd come back in front of her and she repeated that she was okay his eyes climbed back up to meet hers. The expression on her face instantly made him feel embarrassed, more so than for just crashing into her or focusing on her looks instead of hurts. Was he being that weird? He cleared his throat, backing up a step and sitting as well. "O-oh, well good." He said quietly, then cleared his throat again. "Sorry." He wasn't apologizing again for crashing into her, but he also wasn't about to say 'hey I just checked you out even though you might have been in pain, sorry about that' either.
He rubbed the back of his head with a paw, then took a short look around. His stomach rumbled again, trying to pull his attention away from the situation and back to the fact that he was hungry. "Er... what are you doing around here, anyhow?" He didn't meant to be nosy, he was simply curious. But it was hot out and they were right in the sun! And now that he thought about it, her throat was pretty scratchy, wasn't it? "Oh! Were you looking for some water? There's a watering hole back that way a short ways," He motioned with his paw in the direction he'd come from, he'd passed one perhaps half an hour ago.
He looked to her, deciding he didn't want their meeting to end so soon... he didn't even know her name, and he felt it was only right to make up for crashing into her like that... "I could er... show you where... it is?" He said slowly, lamely. "I'm Humusi. I'm from the Pridelands... kind of funny running into you like that... I haven't seen another lion since I left to do some exploring. Is your pride around here? Or maybe you're a rogue? I've met a few rogues and..." He trailed off and cleared his throat, realizing he was rambling. He couldn't remember ever being this nervous around a stranger, but he also couldn't remember having crashing into any of his past encounters like that!

Samehe wasn't sure what he was apologizing for. Maybe he realized that he was being mildly invasive, but there was no way for her to tell. Instead, she accepted his apology with an unsure smile. At least with Humusi's inspection over, the tension dwindled down. He wasn't wholly unpleasant despite the fact that he had tripped over her and been a little obvious with his staring. She had been without decent company in a long while, and this once she was willing to take a chance. It was better than lamenting on her own.
"I don't really know. I wander a lot." She wasn't, however, open to talking about where she came from and where she was going. The former, she didn't feel like talking about it with a stranger, and the latter was something she did not know herself. As far as she could tell, she was going nowhere. Samehe was taking the steps forward without any real destination in sight, in blind hopes that she'd end up somewhere good.
"Ah... I'm not particularly thirsty, I just don't talk a lot." She had seen a watering hole a little while back that if she was thirsty enough, she could go back to. Humusi was insisting on this issue of water, though, and she felt bad over the idea of turning him down. After some hesistance, she spoke up again. Normally, she'd have moved on by now... but she had a feeling that this meeting could not go entirely bad. If she was lucky, she had just met someone nice during her travels. "Well, if you want, we could go together.
I'm Samehe. I have no idea where the Pridelands are. I've never heard of that place. I'm... a rogue." It was a better answer than admitting she was from a pride that had fallen and disbanded.

She didn't know why she was in a specific area? Just because she was a wanderer? He wasn't sure if that was admirable or just... a little depressing. Maybe she was just aiming to find some new and amazing place? Probably! Well, actually... wasn't that sort of what he was doing right now? He knew he was near the pridelands and that he was just nosing around the rogue lands a little, but he also didn't really have any idea of where he was headed. In the long run? Back to the pridelands. "Oh." He said weakly in reply to her insistence that she wasn't thirsty. He frowned slightly, then wondered why it bothered him so much.
Oh! She didn't talk a lot? That was terrible! To Humusi it instantly meant that she didn't have someone to speak to. Hell, he even spoke to himself sometimes. He was about to comment on it but then she decided she would like to go to the watering hole after all! His ears perked and a smile instantly bloomed on his maw. "Wonderful! It's even big enough and deep enough for a bit of a swim, if that's your thing. I find water really relaxing, actually." He hopped back to his feet, then sort of bowed at her greeting. "Samehe! That's fun to say... a rogue?" He was already heading past her, but he paused and glanced back to make sure she was following. "I've always envied rogues. Going where they please, when they please. That's why I'm doing a bit of exploring myself! But whenever I think about leaving my family for too long it becomes depressing." He frowned slightly at this, then shook his head to clear the thoughts. "My family is very large. I think maybe half the damn pride is related to me in some way or another." And here he laughed, it was a full and honest laugh, as if what he'd said had been really funny. To him, at least, it was.
It wasn't long before they arrived at the watering hole, and it was just as quiet as when he'd passed by before. His stomach, again, gave a little reminder that he had been on the hunt. He wanted to tell it to shut up, he was busy! "Oh look, hippos!" He grinned, pointing with his paw at a few hippos floating toward the further bank. "Funny looking things, aren't they?" Ah yes, he was feeling much better now that she'd agreed to accompany him. More natural!

Samehe hadn't really done anything just for fun in a while, and she wasn't sure that she could bring herself to. The idea of swimming wasn't as tempting to her now as it may have once been. She was sure that someone in her old pride would have told her to relax, but they were long gone now, and she would likely listen to nobody else. "I like being around water well enough, but going in it... is another matter." Samehe was definitely closed off to the point where it could look like she didn't like Humusi. The truth was she hadn't been close to anyone in a while to know what to say or how she came off looking.
"It's not a lifestyle for everyone. It's not... easy, living on your own, hunting for yourself." Something flickered in her green eyes, a brief emotion of pain as she thought about the truth she was holding back from him. As far as she was concerned, he would never find out that she was part of a pride. She had lost her family, and it was only because of that why she was wandering. She had no idea what else to do. There was no one, nothing, to tie her down to one place like Humusi had. "Family is one of the most valuable things out there. If I were you, I'd always go back to them."
The waterhole was lush and vibrant, with enough vegetation to hide numerous amounts of small animals from hungry eyes. It was a gathering place for members of the same species, a place to rest and replenish. Watering holes were sparse in her travels, and were always a pleasant thing to stumble upon. "They're very... fat." Her nose crinkled, either in distaste of their appearance or endearment. It was difficult to tell, and she'd likely not elaborate on what she was feeling just yet.

He frowned again at her words, head tilting a little in confusion. Was she... afraid to swim? Maybe she didn't know how to swim! He cleared his throat a little, wondering if he should offer to teach her. Would that make things awkward again? It was kind of silly to not know how to swim when you were already an adult! But it also couldn't be the worst thing ever to offer... maybe she wanted to know how? "Is it because you don't know how to swim? I could show you, it isn't very hard. I don't know if I'd be a good teacher, really. But I could try! I don't think it would be that hard." He meant well, really.
He nodded at her words, they were very true words. He glanced in her direction, "I probably wouldn't last even two weeks, I really am a terrible-" He paused when he saw the flicker of pain pass her eyes, but it was gone so fast he thought perhaps he'd imagined it. "Um... a terrible hunter." He was growing a little disheartened though, she wasn't very talkative. Or maybe he was just speaking to much? Or maybe he should ask her directly about her life as a rogue? Rogues usually had really cool stories! Or maybe he'd just gotten too used to how open everyone was in the pridelands, and maybe thats why the conversation was coming off a little one-sided? But it wasn't like she wasn't answering! Though when she mentioned family being most important he felt his heart give a little pang, something about her words seemed painful and lonely. "O...of course." He said quietly, unsure how to respond.
Maybe the watering hole itself would change the atmosphere to something a bit more joyful? When she commented on the hippos Humusi found himself laughing out loud again, nodding his agreement. "Mm, but not quite as large as elephants! Too bad they aren't around... been a long time since I've seen one. Have you ever heard a lion tell you a story about hunting an elephant? A full grown one, not a baby! Sometimes the story floats around the Pridelands. It's usually the same story every time, but sometimes people get the details wrong... or maybe they change them to their preference? I don't know... I think it would be amazingly hard to kill one of those beasts! I can barely catch a rabbit." He grinned, then moved to the watering hole's edged and leaned down to lap up some of the water. When he was done he glanced back to her, grinning. You don't mind if I take a dip, do you? I think I want to try this fishing thing I've heard about... kind of hungry. What about you, are you hungry?"

Humusi was very open, so much so that Samehe could tell that he had been raised with love and care, and was perhaps a bit sheltered. The same could have been said about her once upon a time, but fledgings all eventually were given a push out of the nest. Samehe had just been given a harder shove than most other young lions. "Oh, I... know the logistics of it. I haven't really done it though. I'm fine with just drinking the water." Samehe could swim, perhaps not with a flourish, but well enough anyways.
"Well, maybe it's because you haven't had much need to hunt? When the situation is dire enough, I find that I make more kills." For a rogue, if you could not hunt well, you did not survive. It was a hard lesson for Samehe. She had always been fairly capable, but after a sufficient amount of losses, she had lost touch with the world. She had let her mind slip away from simple survival skills, and thus her body condition had faltered for a good while. She was strong again now, though, and determined not to let that history repeat itself.
"I don't think I've ever seen an elephant. I have only heard about them, actually. Aren't they abysmally big? A lone lion couldn't tackle one on their own, but I imagine that with some luck, a pride of lions could?" She was trying her best to be somewhat open with him, but she was still closing herself off a great deal. There was no reason to open herself up to a stranger, a lion she had just met out of the blue. "I won't stop you from taking a swim," she answered, and for a moment seemed amused that he had to ask her if it was okay.
Samehe walked up to the watering hole, deciding to take a drink now before Humusi enjoyed himself with a brief swim. "...Fishing? I've never done that. I think, in general, we're at a disadvantage when we're swimming. I'll be fine. I can hunt for myself later."

Oh... so she knew how to swim and didn't really seem afraid of it... actually she seemed really mature! Maybe swimming was just too immature or something? He'd had many lions tell him he still often acted and thought like a cub, but he didn't think that was entirely fair. He tried to be a grown-up! When he remembered, anyhow. And what was wrong with goofing off every now and then? Still... hadn't she ever taken a swim when she was younger? Well, whatever. He wouldn't let himself be bothered too much by it. He thought if he let himself be bothered by this female's words he would have been very upset by now.
He considered her point, and thought it was probably very likely. There were a lot of hunters in the pridelands... in fact, he was supposed to be a hunter! But he often fell asleep while waiting for prey to show up. Or he'd find someone to socialize with, or play a game with. He often went over to help the nannies out as well, he really enjoyed playing games with all of the cubs in the pride. And there were always a lot of cubs in the Pridelands! She seemed to like hunting though, at least she was speaking about it more than any other subject he'd touched on so he decided he'd go with it. Even if he didn't know much about it.
"Well that's why the story is weird! Every time I've ever been told it they always just talk about one lion or lioness, and never like they have any companions!" When she seemed okay with him swimming he just grinned and backed away from the water. When he deemed himself far enough back he suddenly raced forward and jumped! "Wooo~" He shouted, loud enough to send a few birds flying in surprise, and for the hippo's to twitch their tiny little ears and turn their back to the lions as if they weren't really amused. Humusi surfaced, shaking out his mane and laughing. "Ah! That feels so nice!" He sounded very happy, though after a few seconds he glanced around, carefully studying the waters. What if there had been a crocodile he'd missed? That would have been terrifying! He swam a bit back towards the bank, so he could continue speaking with her.
"I haven't either, but I figured if I'm as bad at hunting as I am than there's no harm in trying something new." A disadvantage when they were swimming? Sure, maybe if you wanted to get away from a croc! But... he was a little upset. She didn't want to elaborate on her life, she didn't want to share a meal with him... now that he thought about it, she hadn't even really wanted to come with him to the watering hole. He took a deep breath and dunked under the water, mostly so he could take a few moments to collect himself. And so he could fish.
This was one of the first times he hadn't instantly gotten on really well with another lion, and it was hurting his feelings a bit. But being fully submerged in the water seemed to calm his thoughts a little, and the scenery under the water was so cool! He watched a few fish swimming by, batting at them with a paw but not even touching them. This would be harder than he imagined!

"I don't think that's even possible," she answered increduously as he explained that it was only one lion taking on a full grown elephant. An elephant surely was one hundred times stronger than a lion, and if anything a lion could very well be fighting for its life if it had the misfortune to run into an aggressive elephant. Clearly the story was nothing more than that, just a story. It wasn't even a very convincing story at that, but young cubs must have surely ate that information up as if it was the truth.
She looked over her shoulder, arching a brow at Humusi as he began to back up away from the watering hole. She thought he was going swimming...? Maybe she had said something wrong, or hadn't said enough and he was making a very obvious leave. Samehe didn't take him to be the type of lion to do such a thing, but her intuition could always be wrong. It dawned on her then tht he was going to be taking a running leap into the water, and as quickly as he was running towards the pool of water, she was scampering back away from it to avoid getting splashed. Samehe did not move fast enough to avoid all of the water, but the brunt of the splash landed at her feet instead of on her face. The lioness breathed a sigh of relief. At least Humusi looked to be enjoying himself too, so she obviously hadn't done anything wrong yet.
"If you focused on one skill, you'd get better at it, rather than distracting yourself with new... hunting grounds." The water was a completely different terrain for a lion to try and navigate. Samehe was not going to try hunting for fish in water any time soon. She was far better on land, and successful enough to keep herself alive.
Humusi had ducked under water, and taking a seat at the edge of the watering hole, she waited for him to resurface.... and waited, and waited long enough for her to start to become concerned. She had no idea how long a lion could hold his breath under water - she had never tested the limit herself. "Humusi?" It didn't quite occur to her that he could not hear her. But when he didn't pop his head up to answer her she anxiously began to wade into the water. Maybe he had lied to her about being able to swim?

Humusi liked the story with the elephant, even if it was far-fetched and obviously not doable. He wondered what Samehe thought of it? She didn't sound all that impressed... but maybe it was because no one had told her the full tale! He would have to do that one day, then.
Just before he dunked under the water she mentioned focusing on one skill, then sort of.. downed on him? Maybe? He wasn't really sure... was she looking down on him or not? Maybe it was because she was a really good huntress or something... he assumed that must have been true, because that was the only thing she seemed to elaborate on more while he was speaking with her. But if he could catch a fish then he could prove it wasn't pointless to try new things! He'd been hunting long enough, maybe with out such a great need, but long enough to know he would never be even half as talented as some of the hunters in his pride. He was a firm believe in trying new things, and understanding your strengths and weaknesses. Maybe hunting on land wasn't his thing, and maybe hunting in the water wouldn't be either. But what if it was? He guessed he could have explained all of that to her, but likely it was easier to prove this sort of thing with proof.
So he stayed under water and swam just a little bit. When he managed to finally catch a fish his paw shot back so fast, not expecting the slimy texture of the animal! He'd almost taken a large breath as well, and he was lucky he'd managed not to. Oh, look! A cute little group of fish! He started to count them... but then his eyes caught sight of something just beyond them. Swimming so gently, a turtle! He sort of forgot about the fish. And that he was under water. Why were his lungs starting to hurt? When he finally tore his gaze off of the turtle he started to panic, realizing he was running out of breath. Oh no! But he hadn't caught anything yet!
He wasn't too far from the bottom, so he shoved off with his hind legs and surfaced in a burst of water, gasping for breath. He hadn't notice the rather wild stir of water he'd caused, or the fact that not only were there some water vegetation stuck to him, he'd also managed to 'catch' a medium sized fish in his mane! He was swimming closer to the bank, gulping at the air, when he noticed the female wading in the water. He gave a foolish grin, finally able to stand. "D-did you change your mind?" That's right, he'd just play it cool. Like he hadn't nearly just drowned himself.
Then the fish hit him in the side of the head, which caused him to jump, spinning around as he tried to find what had assaulted him. "What was that!" he yelped, eyes wide.

He really wasn't coming up from under the water! She wasn't sure if now was a good time to panic or not, because she had no idea how to rescue him. He was larger than her, and that mane would surely weigh ten times more than it already did when wet. He had looked like such a capable swimmer too! Perhaps he was stuck? But then, how could he expect Samehe to be able to free him? Whatever the situation was, Samehe knew that she really couldn't sit back and let this lion drown to death. She felt partly responsible for his well-being, since she was the reason he had wanted to go to the watering hole. Besides, he had family, and she didn't want his family to lose him because he lost his brain and went swimming.
She was shoulder-deep in water when he finally did break through the water's surface. The relief was visible in her face, because she really had no clue what she would have done if she had to drag his corpse out of the water. In that moment, she realized how foolish she must have been to get so worked up over his safety. He was perfectly fine, after all! There was not a scratch on his face, and he was still breathing and swimming with ease.
"I... uh, guess I did," she answered awkwardly, not entirely sure she wanted him to know that she had been prepared to embark on a rescue mission for him. "You have... something in your mane." There was the slightest hint of a giggle in her voice. The poor fish was suddenly without air itself, and seemed to be flopping uselessly in Humusi's mane. Samehe wasn't sure that's how one normally went about catching fish... but it worked, and it was funny, she had to admit
