Sylwanin looked around herself with a smug smile. It was the first time in a long while she had felt so happy and alive. Her conscious had not been this clear since before the war and everything was starting to look up. She was headed back toward the pride again, but it would be a while before she got there. What she would do once she got there was a mystery. Would she settle down with a mate? Have cubs? While that sounded wonderful, she really wasn't sure she would find the first to have the second. It was nothing to worry over for now, anyway. She had made a habit of polishing the beads on the strand twisted around her tail and front leg again and had gotten new feathers for the hanger by her ear. It was nice to feel she was a true Iknimaya again. She felt important, like she belonged somewhere, and she hadn't even gotten there yet! She held herself proud again, but this was a pride of her people of what she knew she would do for them once she was back, which was much different than the last time she was there. There was no arrogance to her stance. The 'I am better than everyone' attitude had been replaced by one that could make a friend and help another without thinking of what there was to gain for herself. She had come a long way, if she did say so herself. And right in the middle of her thoughts she had to stop and sniff at the air. That was the scent of a male lion. She perked up and looked around for the source of the scent.

Hayato felt comparably less purpose in his existence. It didn't feel like all too long ago that he'd unwittingly fallen in love with his half-sister and almost married her. He hung his head in shame. He was sitting like a bump on a log, on a log. Maybe he just needed to get back into the game. Do something reckless and stupid with the next female he saw. That is, provided they weren't related. His skin crawled at the thought. He was far enough now from his former pride that he had to be in a completely different gene pool. Or at least that's how he thought. Apparently his father had been quite the roving rogue and the proficient breeder. The lion sighed, unaware of anyone around, too wrapped up in his own sad thoughts. He'd get over this, right? Be able to move past it? Maybe he should only mate with members of another species. That'd be a sure-fire way to not be worried about anything, right? Life could be so hard for a dude trying to get his groove on sometimes. He slumped onto the log, limbs hanging off of it and he sighed.

Sylwanin waited to make sure that the male was not moving toward her. When the scent strength did not change in a few minutes she moved forward again, this time following the scent. It could be someone in trouble, and she wanted to help if it was. When she came upon the male, she studied him from a distance for a little bit. He sighed and she thought he sounded quite sad. The lioness wondered what could have someone so sad and slumped over. He practically looked like he was drooping!
The black and silver lioness stepped forward and very gently poked the male on the shoulder. "You look like you could use some company." For once, the traditional Na'vi greeting did not pass her muzzle. It did not seem fitting in this meeting. Perhaps because someone upset was not usually understanding of odd sayings like 'I see you, brother' and such. She took a moment to admire his beautiful blue markings and back back color. He even had pretty blue eyes.
Okay she really needed to stop noticing attractive males, or she was going to end up going back to her people with cubs on the way. Of course, that thought was not an unpleasant one. She doubted her brother or the princess he had been promised to would really care if she came with cubs so long as when she did get a mate she was loyal to him. That was an odd thought, her brother would be king now with a queen and probably cubs of his own. She suddenly felt old. Back to the task of cheering a male before she got too lost in feeling old.

Hayato fumbled his way to his feet. A voice? A female voice?! He turned around slowly, as though what he would be greeted with was some horrible monster that sounded like a lioness. Instead, what he found was a tall, dark and striking lioness. Her glossy black coat made the feathers behind her ear really stand out. He got lost in staring at her for a moment before he remembered his manners.
"Oh, company would be very nice." He smiled at her and sat back down and patted the spot next to her as an invitation. The location he'd chosen for moping was quite good for it. It included a marshy area framed by cattails and a shallow pool of dark water- perfect for staring at ones self in and bemoaning the past. A few bugs here and there flitted past, some lighting up in a fine display, but Hayato's attention was fixed on the lioness.
"So are you from around here?" He found himself quite fancying her looks but that wary nagging was in the back of his mind. Best to make sure that he didn't have to hit the road and go further into the unknown. But her height seemed far removed from anyone he was related to, or even knew. A good sign!

Sylwanin hoped she had not scared the male, but he did not seem more than a little startled at most. That was good. She knew her height could be a bad thing to some as well, but that seemed to be taken in stride by the male too. Perhaps that meant she could sit and listen to what it was that was bothering him. It would be nice to be able to help another, especially when she had gone through a lot by herself. She hated to leave another to stumble along as she had.
"I am glad you think company is nice... you look like you need someone with which to share a conversation." She gave him a smile, trying not to look as serious as she sometimes could. Learning to smile had been a lesson of the roguelands that her pride had tried to teach her long ago. For some reason these lessons were easier to take to heart from strangers. "From around here? No... I am from the jungles to the south. I have been away from my pride for a long while now. Someday I will return to them. Do you have a pride in which to return?"

Hayato forced a smile. "I, uhh..." He hesitated, not wanting his strange story to make him sound like some incestuous weirdo. He laughed uncomfortably. "Well, I left my pride. It was a little too small for my taste. I was related to just about everyone. Made it pretty hard to find a mate, you know?" He tried to shrug it off. "Your pride sounds interesting, though. I've never really been to a jungle, myself." He tilted his head. "Just what made you leave your pride for the while, now that you know why I left mine?"
He slouched a little, reasoning that if he relaxed physically, he'd relax psychologically too, right? It had just been a really long time since he'd talked to a lioness he considered pretty. He just really didn't want to mess it up. He smiled at her, still nervous of making a misstep, but it was a genuine smile. Hayato was happy she was there to talk to.

Sylwanin gave a rare laugh and shook her head. How did she answer that in a short amount of words? There were so many things that could be said about why she left, but the simplest explanation was probably the best. This male was not likely to want to hear all of the story. She would have to give him an answer to his first comments while she thought of how to word the answer to the question of why she left. "My pride was quite large at one time, and there was not a problem of being related to everyone there for this reason... things may have changed, but I do not think so. I have heard from a few I have met on the boarders of my old pride that new blood is coming in from outside to make up for the losses..."
That seemed like it would lead in to her reason for leaving rather well. So the lioness took a deep breath and gave the condensed version of why she left. "My pride had a great war. We were invaded by others.. I was a priestess and should have protected the cubs and older lions as the other priestesses and baby sitters did in times of war... instead I took up fighting and ironically, I was separated from the pride in the confusion. I lost my way for a long time before I found my way back to the borders of my pride." She thought that was a short explanation. It would have to do for now anyway.
The male was handsome, and Sylwanin could not help but think that he would probably sire strong cubs. Maybe she could get him to go back to her pride with her? And she wasn't technically part of her pride anymore... so if she couldn't she might at least be able to get something else from him for her people. It was a horrible thought to use the male, but if he consented, she would do it. "So you do not wish to go back to your pride? I must go back to mine one day. My brother is king there now... and he will be very happy to know I have not perished... and I believe I am close to being ready to face them all."

Hayato's brows furrowed. A war? Oh, the life of a rogue was so easy, he only had himself to fight for. He sighed. "That sounds terrible." Although the lioness seemed a little rigid because of her customs, she did her best to make herself seem relatable and Hayato appreciated how she opened up to him. He moved as though to give her a touch of comfort, but she was just out of reach.
Go back to his own pride? He shook his head as he listened and his eyes grew wide. Her brother was king? My, that was pretty impressive. "I'm sure he'd be devastated if you never returned. For anyone to lose someone as special as you- that'd be quite the blow." Hayato looked her over. How did he subtly make it clear that he had interests in her...? He tilted his head. How could he even be sure she wanted anything from him besides a conversation?
After his last fiasco, one might say Hayato didn't have a lot of self-confidnece when dealing with lionesses...

Sylwanin smiled softly. She did not often smile these days, but it was still more often than she used to. She had been so full of herself and proud in her youth that smiling and fun things were put aside for duty and her own gain. This male was just one more reminder of how much she had changed, and how much she wanted that to be for the better. "The war was terrible, and it was an honor for my brother to have been chosen by the old king to marry his eldest daughter and thus become king. I wonder what my niece and her intended will be like." She noticed his shake of his head at her question and winced a little.
He had no intention of going back to his own pride? That was a shame. To leave one's people and one's family so far behind was never a good thing. He must have had a very good reason for such a decision though. Any reason had to be better than her reason for staying away from hers. She was just a proud idiot. Sylwanin got a little closer to the male and stretched out her neck to touch his cheek with her nose. It was a rather forward and bold move. Had she been in her pride, someone would have wondered at her intentions.
"I am not so special... but family is very important to us. My brothers would both be upset if I never returned, as would be my sister. They likely have already heard from an old friend that I am still alive. I did speak with a few of her pride at the borders and sent a message with one." The more she talked to him, the more Sylwanin thought he was a very nice male, and wished he could go with her home. Maybe her family could be his? "You are quite handsome... which I should not be saying, but I am not among my people now and I know it is more acceptable here to say such things."

Hayato smiled in return to hers. He found that he liked it very much and wanted to make her smile some more. When she touched her nose to his cheek, a chill went down his spine and his face lit up with curiosity. Could it be they were thinking along the same lines? He wanted to spend more time with Sylwanin. Maybe even beyond a night. What if he went with her back to her pride? Just to see what it was like, at least. He said he'd never seen the jungle...
"What if I came back with you to your pride? At least just to see what it's like..." He didn't know how better to ask her to stay with him, and he very much wanted her to. He reached out and licked behind her ear, a return of her affections.

Sylwanin's face perked. It was not a huge change compared to what some lions might do, but for her it was like a full lighting up of the features. She nuzzled the male's cheek and gave him a return lick behind his ear. The offer was all she could have hoped for and then some. If he did not want to stay, that would not be held against him by her, and her brother was not going to be an arse about what happened outside the pride. She knew her brother too well. He would love the idea that his sister might have a mate as well as cubs.
Of course, if Hayato wanted to leave and did so, it was not the end of the world either. He was not one of the People, and only what happened between them AFTER they were back in the pride would count against either of them. Sylwanin had a plan. They could have fun first, and then go to her people. Either way, they would have gotten to share intimacy and be happy with their time together. "I think that would be a wonderful idea... let us find somewhere to rest for the night first."
