 Ryuu was out on her own for a little. She would meet up with her father and his Wild Dog companion later. She loved them both dearly but she liked having a few of these little outings to go explore. It was time to herself to think, to do things that she might normally get yelled at for, and even to talk to strangers if it struck her fancy.
It was nice to be her own keeper and do as she pleased. The others were always so worried that something bad might happen to her that they were a bit of joy killers. At least they did not assume she was doing horrible things while she was out on her own. That would never do if she wanted them to actually ease up a bit. Her father wasn't even upset over the idea of her having pups of her own some day anymore, so that had to be progress.  Athena stretched lazily and turned onto his other side. His cubs were growing, his group was moving, and he and Zenobia were trying for cubs. He was rather getting used to the way things worked for their little group. He very seldom ran into any problems, especially since most other rogues were not about to mess with a group of several adults with cubs. He had two litters of cubs, all of which were growing fast, and he had lots of wonderful company to enjoy as they traveled. Cubs seemed to attract more females than a male alone could do. That was a perk of having cubs he had not expected. The cubs also made certain females want to stick around all the more. That was REALLY nice.

Ryuu was sticking her nose into a patch of grass to check out a bug when she smelled something off. She was sure that was the scent of a lion. She crouched down and looked around for the source of the scent. One had to be cautious with lions, or so her father said. She saw no reason to be any more or less cautious with a lion than any other creature. At least with a lion they were big enough you usually saw them coming.
Ryuu took her time scanning the area around here for the feline. It was a relatively open area, so very hard even for a lion to sneak up on her. By the smell of things, she had to be down wind of the cat too. That was very much to her advantage. They were not as likely to try hunting her if they knew their smell was going right to her. She finally spotted the lion sleeping on a big rock. She had to snicker at that. Lazy lions.
Athena was not aware that he was spotted. He was preoccupied with sleeping on his rock. He had drifted off to happy thoughts of how good life was with cubs and wonderful company. The fluffy lion had very little to worry about with so much going in his favor. As he napped, the big lion's fur danced to the gentle caress of the breeze.
It was not until a nose touched his that he jerked awake. He blinked, expecting to see a cub and instead seeing something else. Instead of one of his cubs there was a maned wolf with it's nose stuck against his. Another blink or two, and he swore he had seen this creature before... maybe much smaller? "Uh, hello... do I know you?" He was sure the answer was going to be yes.

Ryuu sneaked every so carefully up on the lion. She recognized the lion from when she was a pup and grinned. She reached out and stuck her nose right on his. When he started and opened his eyes, she couldn't help but grin wider. She watched him blink at her and then blink again. Recognition was dawning on him, along with confusion.
She waited quietly and when he finally spoke, she nodded and pulled her nose back. "I do believe you do. I am Ryuu. I was only a pup when we first met. You are the big fluffy lion... atha or something. I cannot remember your name. I am sorry about that." She tilted her head to the side and poked his mane with her paw. "You are still so fluffy!!!!" She couldn't help but appreciate the fluff. It was like required.
Athena sat up and shook himself out fluffier. "Yes, well, I make an effort to stay as fluffy as possible. Ryuu... I do remember you. You gave your father and that wild dog you were traveling with quite a scare as I remember. You were an adorable pup. Quite a pretty wolf now that you are all grown up too. It is a shame you are not a feline." He winked at her and finally got down so he was not so far above her.
"My name is Athena, but you were doing better than I for remembering at least part of my name. I was clueless. It's all the fluff. It doesn't leave much room for brains." He grinned at her and settled in for a conversation with the maned wolf. He remembered her father and the maned wolf being nice, if a bit paranoid with the pups along.

Ryuu puffed herself up proudly at being remembered by the lion. It probably should not have made her as happy as it did, but eh, she liked the lion when she first met him, so she certainly liked the fact that he remembered her so well. "Yes, I did give them a bit of a scare... Did you just try to flirt with me?" Her eyes got wide and she blinked a few times. Would have have done that to her? She was sure she had not mistaken when she heard, but it just couldn't be.
The way he was looking at her, she could not mistake it though. He had been flirting. "I have been hit on by the fluffy handsome lion. Now I rather think it is a shame I am not feline, because I could be more flattered if I was." She grinned at him teasingly and chuckled at the twinkle in his eyes. He seemed as jovial as she was herself! This lion was worth visiting more often if she could manage it. "You most certainly do have brains, I have seen it!"
Athena laughed at the look on her face. "Well, yes, I was flirting with you! And if you were a feline, I would be flirting much more. You are going to make some other wolves very lucky for having such a pretty, sweet, bright ladywolf around." He could not help that he was a flirt. Athena was that way by nature. And the funny part was he meant every overly flattering statement and sweet little comment. He was one of those males that tended to attract females for that reason.
Most of the females that followed him or gave him cubs had thought him dishonest or just after one thing at first. Of course the fact that he kept it up and did not expect anything but plain old friendship out of them along the way, changed their minds and made them want to stick around him more. Zenobia for one was never going to leave him, and Athena would make sure she had every reason to stay around.

Ryuu chuckled at the lion and shook her head. He was something else. Flirting with a canine even though it wasn't as if they could have cubs or such. She was rather amused by it. It made her feel better about herself, though that someone appreciated the way she looked. She wondered if any male maned wolves would appreciate her looks. She would have to find out sometime.
Her brain went to ways to track down a male of her kind for this kind of questioning. Her father of course would tell her she was pretty, and his Wild Dog companion always said she was pretty. Then again he wanted her to bring home a Lady Dog for him too. She had to laugh at him sometimes. "As much fun as this has been, I think I have interrupted your nap enough... I should go see what trouble my father and uncle have gotten into while I was gone."
Athena nodded to the maned wolf. It was odd that she was looking so thoughtful and then parting ways so quickly, but he had a feeling it was not HE that was going to receive whatever devious plots might be brewing in her head. He wondered how many males she would break the hearts of, or if it would give her father an unpleasant shock to have her come home pregnant.
It may not have been the lion's business, but he did enjoy thinking about the amusing situations that could create. He settled his fluffy self back on his rock to nap again and smiled at Ryuu. "Hopefully our paths will cross again, Ryuu. You are very nice to talk to... I will try to send any males I find for you your way." He winked then closed his eyes to sleep again as the maned wolf disappeared.
