I question, who do you idolize?

I only ask cause even now people Idolize Micheal Jackson, he was a good singer and performer, I will give him that but that is all. Queen's singer, I could list off a bunch more people. Who the world has labeled above what they should have.

It is no secret, that I probably put my mother up that high. If for no other reason than, I still miss her for her passing. And at times hate God, for taking her from me. But, I am told that is all part of grieving. Enough of me, I was more wondering about you guys.

Thou shall not have any idols before me ... sound familiar?

I honestly don't believe I idolize anyone... I never really got into the celebrity watching thing... I like martial arts stars and action stars because what they do is cool, but I wouldn't necessarily wig out in ecstasy if I met one.

I was instilled with independence by my parents. My dad was a soldier, and he was always quick to tell us that he wouldn't be around forever... and he was more than willing to open the windows of his experience to convince us that we needed to be self sufficient... Something I am thankful for despite how grim it sounds...

The closest I come is my husband, but I remind myself on a regular basis that I was fine and happy before I met him... Not because I don't trust him or anything like that (as one of my friends misunderstood), but because it is true. There is allot of pressure put on those we love when we place them upon the idol pedestal... I think it is best to let our loved ones stay human with us. rolleyes My husband is more fun as my partner than he would be as my idol anyway. LOL

To be honest, I don't know if I Idolized my mom, or if it is just part of missing her. I just know, what everyone of my family says... and That was that I was/am more like her than anyone else in my family. Which only hurts more...

I always thought the "no idols before me" line was referring to deities and such. Though I can see how it can also mean people that are idolized. In which case it still says specifically "no idols before me" not necessarily "no idols at all." In which case it could mean don't idolize anyone more than we idolize God. For example, choosing to follow Michael Jackson's words instead of or with greater priority than God's.

As for my idol(s) I would have to say nobody. I have had idols when growing up, of course. My best friend Zack was like an older brother, my dad was of course my dad, I always looked up to my grandpa and my biological older brother, but other than that I don't believe I've idolized anyone. At least not that I can remember.
