{ .: Setting :. }

Sara goes to study the art of fortune telling and the Seer's predictions hit a little too close to home.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 06, 2012 2:19 pm

Conduits were more than just healers; they were a physical bridge between the world of the living and the world of the dead. Some were Shaman's, some where Gypsies and some where Nomads that lived secluded from the rest of the world. A few, like Sara, were Legionary Priests - tools who were used by Emperor to keep the body count low and moral high. As you could imagine with such a diverse background there were many arts and mediums that had been developed over time. Fortune telling was one, one that Sara was quite interested in at the moment. Before she had always just been a healer, but now her Priesthood was gaining on her she thought it would be fun to pick up some more skills, which she study and perfect whilst she was in the North. Afterall she would not have her friends to distract her, so a new hobby sounded like just the thing to get her through her free time and it was one which she could use practically when she got back home.

She had read some books, knew the theory and now wanted to see a professional in order to pick up some tips that she could not learn in a dusty, old scroll. It was an art, a tecnique which was centuries old, it had been passed down through generations so naturally there were some secrets that she Seers would had kept to themselves. Besides, you could not fully understand something until you experienced it first hand. She could not just admit to the person she was studying them, it might have caused offence, so she was going into the situation as a client. Who knew, it might be fun! She did not know how good this woman was, she heard about her in the bar not a few nights ago so at the moment she really did not know what to expect. Or how actuate of a reading she was going to get. In other words she was heading into the situation quite blindly.

She was wearing her riding clothes again, the place she was visiting was near the Rice Paddies so she had decided to take Kim out. Besides, if she was dressed in common leathers and fur's it might hide the fact she was a Conduit. She had become increasingly cautious about how she moved around, these days the less people who recognised her the better. So just after midday Sara finally arrived at her destination.

She jumped off the back of Kim and tied him up a pole outside the rather lavish looking tent, as she was stroking through his mane she was spotted by a girl who invited her in. Sara followed quietly, inside the tent was quite dark, a few candles burned and a few books were thrown around. Painting's hung from the fabric and other nicknacks were spread around, a few skulls, a few feathers and a few objects that she did not recognise. In the middle of the tent was a small table with an incense burner, it filled the room with quite a relaxing sent but she noticed a small mist was forming because of it. She bowed her head and took her place on one of the pillows around the table, the girl said that her Mistress would be here in a second and closed the curtain on her way out. All was silent in the room which was suddenly darker than she expected, the candles burned giving everything a small glowing aura, like the moon lining the branches in the forest.

She waited patiently, pale eyes looking around the room and taking in the quite chilling atmosphere.

Odval stepped into the room moments after Sara had seated herself, and sat across from the girl, watching her carefully with one eye. Her face was mostly covered up, and it would have been impossible to tell who she was through the mist of the incense, anyway. She tapped her nails against the table and leaned forward, feeling quite glad that her customer was present. There were things that the Noble needed to know, after all.

"What is troubling you, my dear?" she asked, making an effort to change her voice. There were things that she wanted to know from this soul conduit, especially since she'd been hearing how much time Sarangerel was spending around her son. It just wasn't right. Bataar ought to have higher standards than that, after all. Odval supposed she could have tried to kill Sara again, but abruptly decided against it, feeling instead that she wanted to extract information from the girl. She would figure everything out first, and then she would make her move. She would have to be stealthy here.

In any case, it was now her time to be eerily correct in all that she "predicted." "No trouble with men, I hope?" the buxom woman asked airily, watching Sarangerel like a hawk through the shaded swathes of her purple cloak. Today was going to be a good day as far as Odval Jaoret was concerned.

"Thank you for seeing me." Sara bowed her head politely as the woman entered the room. She could not make out the woman's face under the fabric she wore but she could tell her had quite a curvaceous frame. She might even go as far to say as this woman was more well equip than Odval! The conduit looked to her hands to prevent herself from staring, she did not want to appear rude.

It seemed like they were getting straight down to business. Without asking any questions or setting up any cards or sticks she asked her about her troubles. Sara had been very unlucky when it came to relationships, however they were stories she could not share with a stranger. It was dangerous to admit such things. "No." She shook her head, no doubt it was one of the first questions the woman always asked - a lot of girls came to these places in order to find out about their love lives. Sara, at the moment, considered herself to have none and she had all but given up hope on obtaining one.

She was just a girl not meant for romance.

Realizing she might have some off a little sharp she softened her expression and looked at the woman almost apologetically. "I mean, there are no men in my life, none that I do not view as brothers and friends, and my relationships with them are all as good as they have ever been."

Odval nodded impatiently as she was thanked, finding herself desiring to get on with what was at hand much more. She really disliked this Legionnaire and she didn't want it showing-- for, if she stayed in Sarangerel's presence too long, it would surely show. The woman was nothing short of absolutely evil, or so she liked to think. Beyond that, most of the time it was good to be Odval. She was more than able to eliminate cockroaches like this, after all. Now that was skill.

She pressed her lips together firmly as Sara denied having issues with men. There was always something, and the woman fully intended to find that something out. "Oh, no, my dear," she gasped, placing an overly-jeweled hand upon her forehead for a moment. "Of all things in life, love is the greatest. I sense that it is what we must discuss before all else," Odval breathed dramatically, watching Sara like a hawk for any sort of a reaction.

She liked what she was hearing so far, but she was more than willing to delve into waters that would make her detest the soul conduit even more. That was just Odval's style. The first step to ruining anyone's life was deleting their love interest, after all. What the woman didn't know was who exactly the love interest might be. Her foresight had failed in that she hadn't thought to her son. She was only out to try and ruin Sara's life-- nothing else. It was a hobby... kind of like fishing, really!

What else was a woman as sexy and evil as Odval supposed to do with her spare time? For Odval, things like this defined the height of normalcy.

Sara watched on quite blankly at that comment, she wanted to state that it was not true but did not have anything to back up the claim. Even though love was not in the forefront of her life right now, what could she say was? Clearly she could not say it was the war or her dedication to the dead. "I am sorry to disappoint you, but I do not need to be a fortune teller to tell you that love is something that is not read on my cards." She chuckled slightly, looking down at her woman's hand which was resting on her own. It seemed she liked her accessories, such fine things could only be obtained by the wealthy which indicated she made a reasonable profit from this business of hers.

Sara however, was more interested in her techniques and for now decided to play along with the game, she could give information without actually giving details and she was curious to see where this was going.

"It is true I have had some troubles as of late, but it was those very troubles that ended whatever relationship I might have had - or whatever I could have had with the person I desire. Love might be as important as you claim, but it is also something only a few of us obtain." She stated looking to the side, a small sadness came over her eyes. She had finally excepted it, Bataar was a lost cause to her and thinking otherwise was just going to cause her heartbreak. They were not, or will ever again be, as close to each other as they were before. That in itself was rather painful to accept.

After a moment she looked back at the woman, tilting her head quite curiously. "Why... why is it so important Seer? What do you predict?" She asked quite curiously, totally expecting a answer that went something along the lines of total hopelessness. Sara was just one of those girls who was destined to walk life without a partner, though that thought did not upset her, she had her friends besides her... her Hero included.

At the end of the day, she could settle for that.

Odval rolled her remaining eye at Sara's comment, but made certain that she seemed utterly sincere. After all, with these things one did tend to have to fake sincerity. "My dear, love is written on your face," Odval declared, feeling sickly sweet as she did so. If Sara was here then there was a good chance that she was going to trust her. Now she just needed to figure out the object of the girl's affections and, well, ruin her life completely. It was a pretty simple business, but it was utterly fascinating to the Noble woman.

And who, exactly, had Sarangerel been having troubles with? Was Odval really going to have to kick into fortune-telling mode to nab this? The woman made a face to herself and reached to the middle of the table, taking up a smooth purple stone and examining it as it rested in the middle of her palm. A flicker here, a flicker there. That is what Odval saw. The whole picture could not yet be readily apparent to the buxom woman.

"It's less important to me than it is to you," she muttered, tossing the stone down upon the table and biting her lip, thinking back upon the object's texture, the energy it had been channeling. Fortune-telling had never been the shaman's favorite task, and she was not about to make it that. All she needed to know was enough to get under Sara's skin, and, as far as she knew... "He is not of your faction." If she was right on that, since it would be a pretty controversial thing, she might get the soul conduit to open up a little more.

Odval just had to know.

"I know..."

It was all she could say to that statement, she was well aware of what he was, they had the argument enough times for it to have stuck by now. Though the girl still found herself unable to stay away, she had come to accept him for who he was and after they had been through much it seemed like outsiders cared about the fact more than she did. He was a Noble Captain, he was the enemy and it did not matter to her in the slightest, not anymore.

Though in truth, Sara knew that it was not alliance that was keeping them apart. If Bataar returned her feelings then fractions and titles would not matter as much as others might think. Nothing would keep him from her... he was too stubborn to let it, if she was what he truly wanted. Afterall even now she always found a way to be at his side, no matter the risk, it was one she was forever willing to take to just be with him. In the end it was not because of who she was, it came down to the fact that he did not care for her like she did him. In a way that was more painful to accept than his status.

She could not blame it on alliance forever, the relationship was just something that was not meant to be, at least not in a romantic way. They were very close friends -who sometimes shared rather passionate moments- she had come to accept and appreciate that.

The conduit looked at the woman and tilted her head. "Is that so wrong? There are people out there who murder and steal for pleasure and yet people who chose to ignore the boundaries and fall in love with unbiased eyes are the ones looked at with scorn and disgust. There is something not right there if you ask me." She was not admitting her love for him, not infront of a stranger. In truth there was something odd about this woman and the topic was not something one should admit to so openly. Bataar would not be pleased if she did, the whole thing was hitting a little too close to home... it might be time to plan her escape.

Odval watched Sara with raised brows, confirming in the midst of her thoughts that this girl was, indeed, infatuated with someone of the opposite faction. That was, at the very least, good to know. It was surprisingly hard to extract information from the girl, however, given that she seemed to be determined not to speak of her relationship or lack thereof-- unrequited love, was it? That was even juicier than the woman had allowed herself to expect!

Before she knew it, though, her son was shouldering his way into the tent. Wait-- did he know she was here? Odval tensed up, watching him for signs of recognition, finding herself blanking as she realized that he appeared to be addressing the majority of his attentions to Sara. Frustratingly enough, he looked pleased to see the soul conduit. Even more frustrating for Odval, however, was the fact that he really didn't recognize her.

Bat stepped into the tent and crinkled his nose, finding the scent of the incense within rather nasty. "It stinks in here," he commented, strolling over to Sara, all the while ignoring the fortune-teller-- probably a fraud or something. Someone had seen the soul conduit headed in this direction, however, and in an effort to make the current month last as long as possible the Mongol had pursued the lead successfully.

He toyed with the girl's bangs for a moment with a grin and leaned down to kiss her on the cheek. "You done here yet?" he asked affectionately, his green eyes dancing. It was probably clear to anyone besides the two of them that Bat and Sara were, at the very least, in the stages of very deep like. Odval was not going to be happy.

"Oh for the love of..." The conduit felt the strength in her neck vanish. Her head bopped, stands of long teal hair dancing with the movement. Upon hearing his voice her cheeks turned a deep crimson, though in the dark room that was hard to see. Never the less Sara was quite literally face-palming. He choose his moments, a few seconds earlier and he could have heard something she really did not want him to hear.

Her eyes narrowed and looked at him from under thick locks. Sara's home smelt of many different incenses and perfumes, she herself smelt of numerous fragrances and he was yet to complain about that. This, in other words, was Bataar wanting to complain for the sake of complaining. "It does not stink, its incense... it's soothing, calming, good for the soul. Not everything can smell of sweat and meat and men." She put emphasis on the last word, quite often Bataar came back from training wrecking of his fellow sex. He might not be able to smell it anymore but Sara could.

Though according to Van his hygiene was vastly improved from what it was when he was a student.

It was then that he came close to her, she sat quite unable to move as he played with her bangs and kissed her on the cheek. She did not know what had gotten into him today, but she was not complaining. She no longer saw any chance of a relationship between the two, it was obvious by how much she protested the fact to the woman. So the Captains acts of affection were not something that she enjoyed but did not read too much into.

Her hand raised to rest on the side of his face and before he could pull away completely, she leaned forward and brushed her lips against his. It was just a gentle touch, nothing like the first kiss that Odval had witnessed in his home, yet it was a kiss none the less. She then looked away quickly, clearing her throat. "I think we are coming to an end, unless you want to get your own fortune told."

Bataar had to admit that he was surprised when Sara kissed him on the lips, but he did his best to look nonchalant about the whole thing, noticing just now that there was, indeed, an old fortune teller in the room. He made a face and offered Sara his arm briefly, looking determined to escape the sight of the woman sitting just a few feet away from him. He needn't have worried, however, because Odval was too dramatically pissed off and upset to even react.

This was not happening. "Go now," she growled, at which point Bataar effectively dragged Sarangerel out. Something about the fortune teller's voice had scared the s**t out of him, but he couldn't quite name which element it had been. He breathed deeply of the relatively fresh air before turning to Sara, one brow raised.

"Your fortune? Why d'you need to know that?" he asked, taking her hand and marching along down the path, trying to ignore the frankly terrifying vibes that seemed to be emanating from the temporary tent set-up. He wasn't going to admit how uncomfortable being inside had made him, but he was going to get some distance in between himself and that scary woman. "Did she tell you that a tall, dark, handsome man was about to walk in?" he added with a grin, just to torture Sara a bit.

He'd already assured himself that she was over him, but he suspected that he hadn't done well enough. He found himself wondering about it everyday now, and it wasn't one of the most productive sort of thoughts.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 14, 2012 4:56 pm

The next few moment were a blur, she remembered a growl and the next thing she knew she was being dragged outside. She looked back, feeling bad that she had not paid the woman for her time... however she seemed to want them out pretty quickly for some reason. Maybe Bataar had offended her with his comment.

She walked down the path, well she was getting pulled down the path, Bataar seemed to want to make distance hastily. She looked around at the rice paddies... realizing nobody was around but them. No wonder he was holding her hand. She chuckled as he talked to her, her fingers holding on as tightly as they could. "It's fun. You can not say you are curious about the future."

Sara slipped away from his grasp, running ahead and halting in-front of him. Sara had been quite happy-go-lucky as of late. Even she did not know why, maybe it was because she was starting to feel comfortable with their relationship again or maybe it was become she did not want to spend this month moping. Either way, she was cheerier now that she had been in a long time. She rested her hand on his chest to slow him down, before hopping forward and touching her nose with his. "Then again you seem like the kind of person to prefer surprises." She whispered before bouncing away and head.

The handsome comment made her laugh, without looking back she crossed her arms behind her head and closed her eyes. "Haha, well if she did then she clearly was not very good. All I got was you." She stated with a small smirk, her teal orbs opening slowly to see the road ahead. "...though I am not complaining." She added, more quietly, more genuinely. She was not going to inflate that ego of his, she would have made a stalker comment... but that might make him stay away and for now she wanted him close.

"No. She did not tell me much, nothing that you would be interested in anyway." Her hands fell to her sides and she looked over her shoulder to see if he was still following, she smiled and tilted her head slightly. Things were for the most part, back to how they were. Thankfully.

The fact that they were now out amongst the rice paddies, away from any prying eyes, comforted the Mongol, and it appeared to be influencing both of their actions to a great extent. He rolled his eyes as she touched her nose with his, and watched as she ran in front of him, stopping him. His lips pursed when she seemed to be speaking contrary to his looks, but Bat didn't look too terribly bothered about the whole thing. He'd found Sara out on purpose, mainly because he'd wanted to spend more time with her. Now that she had chosen to become a priest, that sort of thing was important.

He sped up his pace to catch up with her, grinning a bit, and then caught the soul conduit from behind, his well-muscled arms snaking around her waist. His heart was, before he knew it, racing. His excuse to himself was the slight increase in physical activity that it had taken to reach Sarangerel. He held onto her tightly, biting his lip as he tried to restrain himself from placing the girl into a potentially bruising grip. It had been a while since he'd held anyone, after all.

Bat suddenly felt stupid, knowing that Sara's interest in him had probably waned by now. She was young-- young people(especially girls, Bat thought) tended to be rather fickle in nature. Hell, he probably had been, too. "So tell me," he tried to say quite casually, "Haven't I scared you away yet?"

It was a good enough question to ask, especially since he could see that he hadn't been the most welcoming of friends(or more) in the past few weeks since the entire mask fiasco.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 14, 2012 5:40 pm

Sara felt herself being pulled back, the air leaving her body as she was made a small meeping noise. Quite frankly, she was getting dragged around a lot today, yet this time she was being held still, held very firmly. She looked down to see his arms wrapped around her waist, the hairs on her on limbs raised as she felt his skin against hers. She might have thought her stomach had dropped, if that was not where he was holding onto. She looked over her shoulder and up at his face. Before she knew it her cheeks were reddening and she was forced to look back towards the floor. The strands of hair which were not tightly sandwiched between the two fell forward to cover most of it.

Damn it all, something had gotten into him today.

Yet now he was just acting plain weird, her jaw dropped slightly on hearing his next question. "Bataar how many times do I have to tell you? I will never be scared of you." She must have told him one-thousand times if not more, Bataar to her was a puppy, she would never fear him for the simple reason that she felt safest with him around. He would never hurt her... not intentionally at least.

She knew these past couple of weeks had not been easy, but just because they had been hard did not mean that she was ready to give up on him. That was just something she was not capable of.

It only really just dawned on her then that maybe the fear of danger was not the one that he was referring to, but she could not risk thinking that way. Not now they were just starting to get along again. She continued. "So if you are wanting to scare me away you need to try harder." She smiled looking back up at him again, her body lent back into his as she did so. He was holding her pretty tight anyway, she might as well take the strain off her feet.

The next thing she knew her arms reached up to wrap around the back of his neck. "I am not going anywhere." Well she was, but that was not what she meant. He might not like the fact but there was no getting rid of her now. Her thoughts and feelings for him had not changed in months... maybe even years. However long it had been.

Behind them Kim was following, ever so sneakily. That horse was too smart for his own good at times..
