There was a certain charm dusk held over nightfall, and despite everything else he could have been doing, Remarque was quite inclined to enjoy it. The temperature today had been particularly bearable, though Remarque was reluctant to spend more time outside than need be. Though the sun had been warm, it had passed below the horizon and already the chill of night was quickly sinking in.
Remarque had been pushing his luck for a while, now—and this might have been the earliest time he had powered up and gone out with the intention of draining energy. There was some logic behind it—after all, who wanted to be out so long after dark when the temperature kept dipping so low?
There was also a distinct lack of logic in it. The streets were still populated in many parts of the city, and it wasn’t dark enough to really hide who he was if anyone did see him. And yet, his subconscious had lead him here, to the park.
He had drifted away from draining energy from the homeless and opted for a more profitable prey, though this was where he had learned the practice and so he held a sort of soft spot for the park and was somewhat inclined to drift here when he had his mind on something. Only, tonight, he didn’t have his mind on anything in particularly. He was just wandering through the park as comfortably as if he were in his civilian clothes. Though the homeless population was not his preferred energy source anymore, he wasn’t against putting them out of their misery for a night this cold; mirror space would suit them far better. At least there, they’d be warm.

The dark mirror super senshi wasn't the only one who was roaming about the park this evening. Super sailor senshi Hypnos was also roaming about the park, but unlike another lurking shadow it happened to already be one of her normal areas to patrol around. It wasn't too far from home and despite it being a frequent place for trouble it had never caused her too much trouble that would have been such a trauma to never come back after the sun had set from high in the sky.
Hypnos didn't have energy draining quotas or a Queen to serve like other people from other factions but she did have two elder senshi who very meticulously determined much of her freedom. Many things other factions didn't have to worry about were a constant reminder in the back of her head. Important freedoms that controlled what time she could be out until and other simple things that could easily be forgotten were always in sight for the child. The only good thing was if she wasn't in bed and someone had gone in to check on her, at least it was very likely the police would be called and a search out to find her.
There might not have been any search for Hypnos, and there probably would never be one, but she certainly was searching. She was rather silent as she walked around with bunny slippers on her feet. She didn't look entirely suspicious, although perhaps a little worrisome since she looked more like a child in her nightdress than one of the senshi terrorists.

Remarque felt Hypnos long before he saw her. Initially he questioned even bothering to respond to the sensation of any senshi’s aura, though it seemed of late that Remarque was getting more and more desperate for anything to shake up his currently mundane evenings. Boredom alone had driven Remarque to do foolish things, though with curiosity thrown in, it was just a bad mix. He, admittedly, had made a slight effort to resist the temptation of seeking out the aura.
Realistically, he hadn’t put up much of a fight and gave in after only a few seconds of debating.
He knew the park fairly well after all the time he’d spent there practicing draining energy from the homeless population, so it was easy enough to navigate while still being discrete.
Hypnos was easy enough to find, though he had significant doubt that she was the source of the aura when he first arrived. Upon first glance, she appeared to be just some little girl wandering around in her nightwear. Upon second glance, he felt a bit foolish for missing that she was the source of energy he was feeling.
When he approached, it was only with slight caution. She looked too young to be a normal senshi, and he was made to reflect on his experiences with Lenka—the only chibi he had ever met. The girl looked young enough to fit the part, though it was slightly disturbing that more than one child would be partaking in this war.
There was no hostility in his voice when he addressed the girl, just a genuine sort of curiosity; “…Isn’t it a little late for someone your age to be out all alone? Or does the White Moon always send children out after dark?”

No one would have blamed Remarque for mistaking Hypnos as just a child in her nightwear because she was the senshi of sleep. It made perfect sense that she would look like she was ready for bed, or at least that's what she thought. She may have been dressed for bed but her face didn't look tired in the least, in fact, she looked quite aware of her surroundings.
"Hello," she whispered as Remarque approached her, slowly turning to meet him.
"Perhaps," she said almost solemnly. "But the night sky is beautiful at this hour, don't you think so?"

Remarque followed the girl’s gaze into the sky after giving her another look over. “I suppose. But I can’t imagine you came out here dressed like that just so you could admire the sky. You could do that from a window, nice and safe at home.”
The girl’s demeanor was a bit unnerving, not because she was particularly odd, but because she seemed more mature than her age. She wasn’t bouncing around or flinging insults or fruit like Lenka had been, so naturally she had piqued Remarque’s curiosity. He lowered his gaze to her once more, unable to see her as anything but a child despite her aura. “You look a little small to be a senshi. Do you go out there and fight like the rest of them?”

The sky was so beautiful that it was hard for Hypnos to just sit still and watch it from her window. It didn't feel right only behind half under it when she could be fully under it from the park or anywhere else. This point was mostly true in the city where the sky's view wasn't nearly as clear and Hypnos looked for any excuse she could to get a fantastic look at it. Of course, it wasn't the only reason she was outside even if it was a rather big one. In truth, there were creatures all over the city that Hypnos was trying to find a way to stop. She didn't want to use traditional "senshi" ways to deal with them but she didn't want to let them run free either. She could remember the time when they'd attacked her school and all of the innocent people who had ended up involved.
Hypnos sighed softly, her gaze moving from the sky to the adult wavering over her like a hawk viewing its prey. She didn't frown at his closeness, a small smile on her face as she acknowledged his presence in a more friendly manner than anything hostile. "There are bad creatures out there that hurt people, roaming the city," she said rather of frankly. "There are a lot of innocent people, they don't deserve to be attacked and I don't want anyone to get hurt so I try my best to protect them."
She didn't like to fight others though. She didn't go picking fights with people for no reason, or really at all. She didn't believe that people were inherently bad, or that things were black and white.
"I don't think we should fight. I know everyone tells me that they're bad people, but I don't believe just standing on one side of the line makes anyone bad by default. Everyone... everyone has good inside them." There was a pause for a moment, her mind immediately shot back to General Painite, a small cringe of pain lowering on her face. "We don't have to be enemies." Why couldn't they just be friends? The child had big goals but with it a big heart. She wanted to be friends and she didn't believe that there was some invisible line that separated them. Why couldn't they cross it? Why would Painite only love her when she was a kitten?
Her feelings were often criticized, but Hypnos believed rather idealistically that if she kept trying then there would always be hope for change. It had been a year now, but nothing had really changed. She had made some friends but most of them didn't share her views and then some just outright refused her friendship because they stood on different sides. However, Hypnos was still here and she was still trying. It was another night and the senshi had a chance to make a new friend.
"My name is Sailor Hypnos," she purposely excluded the chibi part. She was tiny, she got it. Everyone could see it and they certainly didn't need her to remind them. "I am the senshi of sleep and I am pleased to meet you," she introduced herself, giving the older senshi a small curtsy. It may have been weird but Hypnos was pleased to meet everyone, refusing to just label people badly until they themselves had made that name for themselves... and even then she often outright refused their answer.
"May I ask your name?"

While Hypnos was speaking, Remarque noticed several things. The first, was that she seemed entirely too understanding of this situation for a child, the second, that she was far too sweet, and the third, that she was far too friendly. He listened, refraining from interrupting her in favor of actually listening to what she had to say. Leave it to a child to be more rational than her older team mates, though. Figures.
“Pleased to meet you, Hypnos. Super Sailor Remarque,” he introduced, not intending to be rude the to girl who had been so polite to him thus far. “Dark Mirror Senshi of Puppetry.”
He kept a bit of distance between them; the girl almost felt too disarming for this not to be a trap, though he wasn’t about to ditch just because he was feeling a little suspicious. “…I like the way you think,” he said after a moment. “We don’t have to be enemies. Or fight.”
She was just a child, so fighting her or trying to convert her to their cause seemed a little out of the question, and killing her? Well, Hell. Jett wasn’t that bad. Her parents would probably be distraught if she was out one night and never came back. He wasn’t going to put them through that; that could be someone else’s job, if need be.
Resting his hands on his hips, Jett tilted his head just slightly in her direction, reaching to tuck a stray lock of hair behind his ear. “Though, I’ve gotta ask. You’re against the innocent people being killed or hurt—and, that I agree with. But what about the people who aren’t innocent? Is it okay if the Negaverse hurts or kills them? The people who had good in them but let it get buried by all that evil?” When you say you want to protect people…is it them included, or do you think maybe they had it coming?”
He wasn’t mocking or degrading in this instance, though had considered trying to get a rise out of the girl; in this instance, he was just genuinely curious. The senshi had often preached to him about protecting the innocent—but not everyone ever attacked was innocent.

Hypnos was pretty easy to read and when Super Sailor Remarque said he was pleased to meet her? Well by golly, her face just lit up like a Christmas light. It was rare she ever met anyone who was pleased to meet her. despite being pleased to meet them. A small smile on her face, she tilted her head toward the older senshi when he finished with his class of dark mirror senshi. She'd never met one before, or really heard anything about them, but none of them really seemed to matter to her. However, it did matter enough to her curiosity.
"What's a Dark Mirror Senshi? I've never heard of that before." She said with little hesitation or resistance, her hands covering her mouth quickly so she would be able to give him the same respect he'd given her.
Oh, it didn't take very long before the Christmas light lit up even brighter. Her small smile had turned into a bigger one under Remarque's very eyes when he said he liked hoer she thought and then even agreed that everyone didn't need to fight! Oh, how long had the little senshi waited to hear such words? How many nights had she spent under the night sky waiting for the night to come when one small dream came true for this sleep bringing senshi.
The smile shortened a bit when he further asked her about the evil doings of people and just when it was okay. Everyone always stressed to children that bad people should be punished, time outs and detention often the punishment for children who were bad or misbehaved. However, what happened to adults who were not innocent and misbehaved? Should they be punished as well? Was it okay for youma to attack them? For Negaverse soldiers to attack them? Should the right be given to them to deem when one person was placed above the other and unworthy of their protection? Hypnos shook her head.
"Good and bad are just words, they don't define who we are on the inside," she said, kicking her foot against the ground with a small frown. Her mother wasn't a very good person, and maybe somewhere deep down she knew that but she still loved her mother despite all of it. Wasn't that what everyone was told to do? To to look past those sort of things? People hid things all the time, even she hid her other identity all the time. Maybe everyone thought they were doing good but in the end what they thought was better really wasn't?
She'd met Ares once, back when Ares had been Super Sailor Ares, and back then Ares had been nice to her. It was a short visit and Hypnos probably wouldn't recall her if she'd met her again as the Dark Mirror Queen but if she had met her now, what would Hypnos see? She'd only see what Ares let her see, but behind Ares would still be a person. Hypnos had seen a lot of people during her year of being a senshi and not all of them were nice but she didn't think for even a moment that it was okay for any of them to be thrown to the wolves. Not even Captain Sassolite (although General now) or the fake prince Endymion, neither of which Hypnos would be pleased to meet again.
"Everyone deserves a change to change and no matter how bad someone is there will still be someone who is going to cry when they are hurt or when they die. I don't want to see that. If I did wrong, I'd want to be given a chance to make up for my mistakes and if my friends were bad, I'd still be sad if they were hurt. It wouldn't matter if they were bad, I'd just be happy they were okay!" She said as her little fists rubbed the corner of her eyes to keep the small teardrops at bay. The thought of her friends being hurt was a bit too sensitive of an issue, and a bit too likely a scenario for senshi for her to completely hold back the tears.

Remarque stared at the child, a little taken aback by her reaction to the situation. He hadn’t meant to upset her; she had been good company so far and had given him no indication that she was a nuisance to be tended to. “Hey,” he said, trying to calm her a bit. He took a step forward, though didn’t want to be seen as some sort of threat and just resigned to keep his distance.
Children were not something he was used to dealing with, and spending too much time with Millicent left him feeling a little more sympathetic towards them. While the aggressor within him enjoyed conflict when it meant he could express dominance and come out on top, though there wasn’t any glory in picking on children.
“You don’t have to get worked up about it. Most everyone gets a second chance, at least. And it’s not like when everyone screws up they immediately get a death sentence. There’s always time to redeem yourself.”
Unless, of course, you were one of the unfortunate souls plucked from this world to spend the rest of your miserable existence rotting away in Mirror Space, or you got eaten by a youma or drained to death or—hell, even civilians could cut each other’s lives short.
“That’s what the Dark Mirror Court thinks,” he said, easing his way back into answering her earlier question. “We’re all about second chances. Sometimes,” he explained in a gentle tone, “People get caught up doing the wrong thing. Only, sometimes they don’t know that they’re doing the wrong thing. So it’s my job to try and help them work things out and make sure they’re on the right path. To give them a better cause to fight for. As long as you make the right decision in the end, what does it matter how many mistakes you’ve made along the way, right?”
