The sun was just chasing away the shadows of night when Catfish awoke. The female snuffled softly. She was curled in a ball, her tail touching her nose, and now she slowly began to uncurl herself. Cold touched her belly and she shivered, wishing she could remain sleeping, but hunger had left a hollow space needing to be filled. It was not far from her little hollow to the Fells Run river and she set off immediately. The brisk pace she set helped her body warm in the chill morning.
When she reached the river Catfish found the edges covered in a thin layer of ice. Such a nuisance. That would make driving the fish towards the shore that extra bit difficult. She huffed in annoyance and approached the edge, testing the ice with a paw. It crackled and threatened to break. Pushing down harder she let it shatter and then splashed her way into the water.
So cold!
