The training grounds. Sherry had wandered around by them before, when she was trying to get a feel for the place. Today she hoped to do more than just wander. She hoped to actually make use of the grounds.
"I know," Sherry replied. Armagnac was not letting her forget the fact that she needed practice. Right from the start it was obvious that she'd never used a weapon or been in any fights. It was also quite clear that fighting was part of the job.
So that was why she was down here. She hoped to find someone to spar with. Coming down to the grounds seemed to be the best way to find a partner. Unless there was a post-it board with sign-ups somewhere, but she hadn't seen one of those.
So, Sherry was poking around the training grounds, looking rather lost.

Wilson was well-acquainted with the training grounds. He had gone through a few spars with some of his fellow trainee, but even more time had been spent on his own trying to get a better feel for his weapon. To the trainee he thought he was doing fine, but his partner said otherwise. Perhaps it was because he had never fought or taken up some sort of martial arts. He had always played sports or gone hunting—which could have been useful if he had a gun and well, not Gramps. He winced as the voice kept yammering in his thought. Hands reached up to gently press against his forehead while the man walked through the fields, attempting to walk off the oncoming headache.
Through the scolding and ranting, however, Wilson noticed another trainee aimlessly walking around. She seemed sort of lost. “Do you need any help?” he called out, shoving Gramps into the back of his mind as he walked closer toward Sherry.

Sherry turned at the sound of a voice. "I-" she started to respond, only to stop and cast a quick glance around. He was talking to her, right? There wasn't really anyone else here, so he must be. She smiled at the other trainee. "I suppose I do. I'm trying to find someone to have a quick spar with, but I don't really know where I should go to find someone as I haven't actually had a spar yet-"
Armagnac's voice rang in her head.
"-so I---" Sherry stopped. Armagnac was right, the words were tumbling out again. It really was a terrible habit. It didn't happen all the time, but she was a bit nervous about her decision to go find a training partner. When she was nervous, she talked.
the wyrm hissed.
She took a small breath to compose herself. "I'm hoping to find someone to spar with. Where would you suggest I look?"

He always smiled, and he continued to do so as the woman turned around and looked for another body that he might’ve been talking to. While he would not have minded it if she had chosen to walk away or frown at her—Wilson had noted a couple of trainees that appeared to fall into that particular category—he was glad to see her smile back at him. He angled his head to the side as Sherry answered. Wilson did not move to interrupt; he simply stood and listened. He liked to talk and he was a gregarious person, but at least he knew when to shut up. When she paused mid-sentence the smile left his face as he curiously stared at Sherry. [Must be talking to her partner.] Gramps observed before meandering off into another rant, which Wilson politely ignored.
“Where to look?” repeated the death trainee. He found it an amusing idea to feign clueless and looked left and right. “Someone to spar with, huh? Well…” Wilson gathered his gear together. “How about me? Since no one’s here.” He kindly omitted the fact that he had been searching for a sparring partner too.

Sherry blinked. "Uh-Really?" She didn't want to put anyone out by asking, but he just offered and, well. This was easier than she thought it would be. "That would be great!" Her face lit up. Sherry ignored the wyrm, and looked over her new sparring partner. She'd seen him around, at mission briefings and things. But they'd never really talked. "You can call me Sherry." ((Initiative roll, just because. xD )) Syusaki Sorry for the long wait! Been busy ;-;

Somehow his beam stretched even wider. “Really.” He searched the training grounds for anyone else. When he found the fields to be mostly desolate Wilson began to track backwards, taking off the goggles around his neck. It glowed in his hand for a moment before shifting into the hulking form he called his weapon. He slung on the backpack portion of it and then fastened on the mask. “Sherry?” His voice sounded a bit muffled from behind the mask, but could still be heard well enough. “I’m Wilson.” If Sherry peered close enough she could see his eyes blinking behind the green-tinted eye sockets.
As he slid his hands into the cannons he spoke again, “I hope you don’t mind if I take the first hit?” He gave the woman little time to ponder the thought before he raced forward, arms outstretched and releasing a stream of green, noxious gas.

Sherry was still smiling as she watched her new friend summon his weapon. Following his lead, Sherry touched the bracelet on her wrist, and a glowing moment later she held a glaive in her hands. In the back of her mind she could sense Armagnac's excitement. Wilson. She committed the name to memory. "Pleasure," she responded to his introduction with a slight nod. At his question, her hands tightened around her weapon. This was it. She nodded again, to show she was ready, but he was already moving. Sherry's first instinct was to step back and away from the man and the gas that was suddenly coming straight towards her. Her hands came up, bringing her weapon with them in a defensive move. It did little to help against the gas. Sherry coughed, and her eyes watered. No wonder he had a mask. In her mind, Armagnac was growling. Sherry could tell the wyrm was angry with her. The attack had caught her off guard, and she was now completely on the defensive. Armagnac hated that. Sherry recovered as quickly as she could. She placed one foot behind her for balance, readjusted her grip slightly, and brought the bladed end of her weapon down in a swooping arc aimed at the masked man. HP: 36 Damage: 9

Once Sherry summoned her weapon, Wilson took a quick moment to examine the glaive in her hands. Hunter weapons often had interesting appearances, especially weapons like Sherry’s, where it had the design of a weapon out of a video game. Personally Wilson was more of an outdoorsman and athlete, but he had played his share of games too.
He breathed loudly behind his gas mask. It had been so odd to wear it at first, but the more he unleashed poisonous gas the more Wilson came to appreciate it, stuffy as it sometimes could be. What he did not expect, however, was her retaliatory strike. As he peered through not only the cloud of gas but through the tinted lens of his mask, Wilson found it difficult to react to her swipe. It was direct and powerful, slashing across his chest. “Oof!” He stumbled backwards, attempting to react with another stream of gas, but found it difficult to do so. Instead he chose to retreat back a few more steps to try and regain his breath. Damn. She hits hard.

She watched with surprise and satisfaction as her blow hit, and he stumbled backwards. Half a heartbeat later, she felt bad. What if that really hurt him? He was a sparring partner, but she didn't want to hurt him! They'd really just met, after all! Sherry opened her mouth to apologize. Armagnac hissed. Sherry knew the wyrm was right. The look of concern that had been on her face for a moment faded. She leaned forward, moving her left hand closer to the blade which was still angled down. Quickly she moved toward Wilson, hopeing to close the space he'd created between them. At the same time, she brought her blade up in a sweeping motion that could have been mistaken for a jab. She had every intention of apoligizing for this later. HP: 36 Damage: 6

Wilson really sucked at fighting. No, really. He really sucked. His offensive abilities were just too low. Apparently being athletic and liking sports wasn’t a very good indicator of his fighting skills. Either that or he had he this terribly natural knack for getting hit by people and failing to return the favor with a swing of his own. Perhaps even both.
He coughed before taking a deep breath as he attempted to regain his composure, except Sherry didn’t allow him much time before she swooped in for another attack. Wilson slurred his words together, “Oh for the love of—“ He let out a wheeze eerily similar to his partner’s as the blade went from a jabbing motion to another slash. The trainee considered it a miracle that he managed to swing one of his arms to bash Sherry in the shoulder, but it didn’t feel like he had done much. A ranting catoblepas in his head did not ameliorate the situation as he again attempted to create distance between them.

She heard Wilson say something as he countered her attack with a swing of his arm. He hit her shoulder, jarring her arm enough to make her flinch. Sherry took a step back as well. Armagnac was bellowing in her head. Her heart was pounding. Sherry had been in only a couple of fights thus far, and something about it made her...she wasn't sure yet. It was probably just the adrenaline, but Sherry was almost having fun. Almost. "You...ok? I don't really--" The roaring in her head exploded, and Sherry actually flinched the slightest bit. It was almost too much at once. She needed to focus on the fight. In one swift motion, Sherry brought her glaive in close so that it crossed her torso, the blade above her head and to the side, the end down low. She nodded at her opponent. "Shall we go again?" To put it simply, Sherry was kicking Wilson’s sorry butt. Wilson was too busy to think about this fact, but Gramps’ was brewing up a storm of frustration and hate inside his partner’s mind. [What is this, youngin’? WHAT IS THIS? You look more worse for wear than this ghoul is! Why don’t you get your head in the game, hm? Why, when I was your age I had to—] At that point, he only managed to capture bits and pieces of the catoblepas’ rant.
While his expression appeared a bit strained, it was completely masked by his gasmask, pun absolutely intended. He laughed uneasily and waved one of his arms in the air. “I’m fine, really! No problem. You’re pretty good at this, you know?” Or maybe he was just having even more of an off day than he usually did. “Of course!” With a bit of renewed vigor, he aimed his cannons at Sherry and released another stream of gas.

Sherry was glad he seemed unhurt, though he was a bit hard to read under that mask. This sparring thing could get dangerous, she knew that now. She had known if before, but things were different when you were actually doing it. Did he just say she was pretty good at this? He did. Sherry smiled at the compliment, small as it may have been. It was nice to get some encouragement from somewhere. The roaring in her head was constant. And then, her opponent was on the attack. The gas cloud came at her, and Sherry stepped to the side, but she couldn't escape the gas. Her eyes watered. Wilson's attacks were difficult to defend against. Avoidance was going to be the best policy. As she moved, Sherry readied her counter. She pointed her blade skyward for just a moment before bringing it down in a sweeping arc, attempting to make use of her weapon's reach. HP: 32/40 Damage: 3

Sparring could get dangerous, but rarely life-threatening. It was easy to stop during a mock battle. During a real one? Not so much. Yet spars still held the real sensation of fighting another living being rather than just relentlessly pounding a dummy. The opponent moved and thought, and the opponent didn’t hesitate to bite back.
He smiled back at Sherry. Wilson could sympathize with Sherry about the incessant voice that refused to shut up and instead perpetually yammered on inside his mind. While he would have lightly tapped his head as a gentle nudge for his partner to shut up, his hands were currently covered with heavy pieces of metal. “Woah.” A quiet murmur as the young trainee brought up both of his arms to form a makeshift shield to counter Sherry’s slash. The move didn’t completely surprise him, given the fact that the weapon was a pole arm, but somehow the tidbit had slipped his mind. He took a step backwards, using it as support to push Sherry back. He spoke softly, “Totally forgot it was a polearm.”
