For every book made into a movie or whatnot, you always have those that prefer their own renditions of the characters. In our case, they're "Phanditions". Most of us know what Book!Erik and Book!Christine look like. Many more know what Musical!Erik and Musical!Christine look like. And just about everyone else knows the movie versions and all the other versions inbetween, right down to the parodies or TV show. But how many of us create a new Erik? Or a new Christine? Our own versions of our favorite characters. What is Uta talking about? You see in many different fandoms fans creating images of how they believe the characters look or their own version created from their imagination. So how many of you have created your own Erik? A special look for him all your own so that your phandom can live on in some unique creation? Well, I found two DA artists who have made their own looks for Erik Blonde Erik: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/14693981/Interesting mask design and utterly hawt Erik: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/21518434/Now I'm not stopping these at Erik, though he's more prone to this little burp of imagination. What Uta's imagination likes: For Christine I always like her to be a thin little ebony-haired girl with large blue eyes. To me, the combination of the hair and eye color like that speaks of poisoned innocence. While Christine is but a young girl and innocent by far, she has been "poisoned" by reality. With her father dying, never knowing her mother, knowing poverty, and then being tricked by Erik, she is truly a wrecked child. And I actually have my own little Erik, though I'm not so sure people will like him. I had a roleplay a while back (which is dead now, demmit) that was called "Phantom of the Rockhall." It was more a cross between PotP and PotO, but I had my own little Phantom. He was tall with stringy, shoulder-length ebony hair and lapis lazuli eyes (can you tell I love the combo?) and could play any instrument needed. His name was Adrian, and he was a cannibal. There was no deformity, but he wore a patchwork mask made of snippets of human flesh to hide his face so he could be both Phantom and normal. He was an escaped convict/psyche ward patient. XP He's my baby. So! Let's discuss YOUR phanditions or any ones you might've seen! Pictures are welcome, you know! heart

HOMIGOD. I loved that blonde Erik. DDD:
I love the combo of brown hair blue eyes, and that on Christine would be adorable. I always pictured her hair not really springy, curly, so on, but more like straightened with a big of wave or sways, a light auburn-brunette color.
And with Erik, I could never draw his hair pulled back, so I doodled pictures of his hair being long and untamed, stringy but thick. Not exactly 'rocker' style, but somewhat like it. And I'd always draw different outfits on the characters. I may doodle some of what I'm talking about and post them up here. : DD -inspiration!-

Yay! So I'm not the only one obsessed with black hair and blue eyes. (Could you tell?)
I always wanted Christine to be like that, just 'cause it looks so effin' awesome. And I do love your concept of "poisoned innocence". It just seems to fit her so well. It allows for her to be more than just a weak little thing who is always saved by the handsome lover, yet still leaves room for a tender side. I may just steal your Christine now. Not really, but ehh. She's awesome.
As for my personal version of Erik...I don't really have one. I am, however, more than partial to Winslow. He seems to truly embody the spirit of "Phantom" somehow more than a bunch of other versions did, if you know what I mean. If I was ever going to write a fanfiction, it would be with him. Besides being a great Phantom, he is actually my ideal guy. Honestly. He has every single one of the traits I find attractive in a guy. And then some others that I wouldn't have thought of, but they make him look particularly attractive. So, yeah. I can't find a Phantom more perfect for me, so I'm sticking with pure, cannon Winslow.
I have some scraps of a fanfic I started with Winslow and Lex. I would put them online somewhere once I refine them, but I know that people would come bashing me over the head for having a non-cannon pairing, plus a girl who's appearance would make her a Mary-Sue in some people's eyes. Not that I see her as being blindingly attractive and perfect in every way, but I've had people tell me that she was a Mary-Sue just because of her hair color, eye color, and the way she dressed. It was rather annoying. But it was intended as something that was just fun to write anyway, nothing serious (especially considering Lex is really from an original story that I came up with when I was twelve and am attempting to construct into a novel) so, ehh. Whatever.

She's not copyright me anyhow. Just my silly idea that I've been meaning to draw for some time. If I ever draw her, I'll link a pic.

Great thread idea Uta! I question the blond haired Erik, looks like any generic anime bishie with a mask thrown on confused
Well my phandition rotates around the idea that I want to make a phantom manga some day (some day darn you!)
Phantom sketches
I like the idea of the mask they were going to use in the musical until they cut it down to 3/4 becuase it makes him look really imposing and creepy when he glares at you thorugh those slits O.o which I like my phantom to be, plus I can show emotion through other things besides facial features in the manga. I think the idea of a full black facial mask as in Leroux's is just a little bit too much mask, besides the white mask (whether full or half or even 3/4) has become iconic, you can't mess with what works.
Other than that, black slicked back hair like in the 2004! movie and very expensive gentlemanly clothes, my phantom imagery doesn't really differ from the norm (like I said it's iconic). But in portraying the phantom, I always think of him brooding, scheming, and often teeth gritted in emotional pain, just sitting behind Christine's mirror and imagining...creating songs and works of art in her name (that's the angsty artist side in me xd ) and I'd probably have him playing with dolls alot, I like how they had that in the movie, a slight stroke of genius, I could totally see Erik talking with/through inanimate objects XP (not that I do that ninja )
As for Christine I honestly thought Emmy Rossum was a beautifully perfect Christine, her large eyes and delicate lips and gourgeous hair; she was extremely aesthetically pleasing. But for my phandition/manga I would probably lean more towards Leroux's version with blonde hair becuase I have this friend I think of as the perfect Christine. She has big doll eyes, a petite round face, and long blonde hair: innocent long hair But I also agree with Uta's intepretation of Christine, the young girl with tainted innocence, and I absolutly adored Kay's beginning descriptions of Christine they really bring her alive to a point where you identify with her.
My last little input is my phandition of the Persian xd I'm honestly heartbroken that adapted versions of PoTO don't include him he's such a great character! But while reading the book I always imagined the phantom all in black (duh!) and the Persian dressed all in white heart like in Star Wars Episode 3 , obi wan vs. Anakin whee

Utakan, your Phantom is going to give me goddamned nightmares. gonk
And, RDS, I am, as always, in love with your "sketches." <3
But, yeah. My personal Christine plays a lot off of Leroux!Christine. I always pictured her as almost a living china doll. I always imagine her wearing a sort of white, almost Lolita-like dress, with the frills and the extra layers, with big, blue eyes, and extremely long, straight, light blonde hair, and red lips, with very pale skin. Like I said; like a china doll. The epiphany of innocence. Looking as if, if you as much as touch her, she could break. 3nodding That's just sort of what she had always seemed to me. She seems very childlike in actions, and also angelic. In other words, quite innocent, as if she's just waiting for something to happen to ruin all that. Gosh darn her vunerability. gonk
And, as for Erik... oh, Erik, Erik, Erik. What do I envision Erik as?
Have you guys ever seen the 1990 Charles Dance Erik? I have Utakan's booteeful drawing of my avatar with him in my sig, in case the answer's no.
In any case, I always picture Erik with that mask on. And usually, he ahs a black fedora, with a purple-ish-grey ribbon thing around the middle. With the black, slicked back hair, and a tuxedo, with the red... thing around the waist, with a tail on the tux, and a cape. 3nodding And he has dreadful anger issues. Gee, I wonder where he gets those from. ninja And, as for the deformity, well... it's mostly Leroux, truth be told. The hair's a wig- he's completely bald, except for a few, thin locks here and there. 3nodding And his head's rather wrinkled, but, not out of age, but deformity. His eyes are sunken in, and you can just barely see his eyes, which, true to Leroux, are gold. And he has no nose. xd So, basically, yeah. I totally just took Leroux's description. ...w00tw00t?
And he's got an almost boyish speaking voice, which endears you to him, because, although his physical features don't allow you to exactly try to guess his age, his voice sort of brings you to sympathize, as it leads you to believe he's quite young, although you can't really be sure if he is. ninja
And he's extremely fond of the organ, and even moreso of the violin. heart He often writes violin concertos. whee
And did I mention the anger issues? xd

Youko-chan Utakan, your Phantom is going to give me goddamned nightmares. gonk Then I succeed in life. heart But really, Adrian's my baby. XP And he lives in my closet. RDS: Damn you and your sketches. And I agree, the blonde one does look "bishy". But I thought it was a unique idea. I always see Erik with black or brown hair it's hard to imagine him with anything else.
