"Why, might I ask, are we out here?
It wasn't until Gale realized that Jude hadn't been heading back into the Deus Ex Facilities and they were, in fact, not going anywhere indoors that he became slightly concerned.
And now they were at the beach.
What.
Gale had ambled along wordlessly behind him, of course, as the cluster of Intermediate Hunters had slowly dissolved, leaving behind Gale, Jude, and Ariane as the new - albeit temporary - leaders of the Deus Ex Death Hunters.
Which also meant that if Caelius came back and they'd done a terrible job all hell would break loose.
<< The beach is as good a place as any. >> remarked Jinhai casually, and Gale could almost hear the shrug in his voice, as if to say why not?
He rolled his eyes, glancing over at Jude.
"I'll get everyone here," he said as he pulled out his cell phone, already flipping it open and beginning to tap out a message. "Then we can figure out what we're doing."
And hopefully not screw anything up in the process.
All of the text messages said the same thing:
"ALL DEATH HUNTER TRAINEES REPORT TO THE BEACH ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE FACILITY."-------

Jude was a mighty hider of motives as he kind-of-sort-of shanghaied Gale and made him switch directions, "I just felt like being outside," he said idly as his eyes flicked over to the water. Wonderful water. Beautiful water. Water filled with life and things of all sorts of wonder and--...
..He shook his head. No. Stop it. He looked over toward Gale with a small shrug, "Yes, summon Kids so we can...Figure out something to do while we tell them that Mommy and Daddy aren't here for the evening." Jude said as he rubbed at the side of his face.
Just don't look at the ocean.
{It'll be okay, Jude.} Yom said helpfully, {I'll talk sssenssse into you!}
Thanks, Yom, thanks.

Ohoho, what was this? A Death Hunter meeting? And--huh, this wasn't a message from Caelius' phone, but from Gale's. Perhaps the boy had been given a mission from Caelius, or maybe he was just trying to gather everyone from the Death squad together for some reason. Whatever the case, Eva dropped everything she was doing when she read the text, and got ready to head to the assigned meeting place.
When she arrived, she noted with a little grin that some of the Death trainees were already there. She swung her arms in an exaggerated manner as she approached them, face lit up with a grin. "Well, well, well, if it isn't two of my favourite people," She greeted cheerfully, stopping in front of the Intermediate Hunters, "You guys look well."
That being said, why had they been called here anyways? Eva glanced towards the ocean, and then she tore her gaze away to let it fall onto Gale. "So, what's going on?" Since he was the one who sent out the messages, it made the most sense to ask Gale what was going on. Or..."Actually, no--maybe we should wait until the others get here first."
Ahhh, she should have dragged Otto along with her! She actually forgot that "puppy" was also a Death trainee (probably because she really didn't keep track of who was in what division).

Madison trailed after the others kind of awkwardly - after all, she'd just been assigned to the Death Division, and she didn't even know the other three advanced trainees that well! She felt a bit like an intruder. "Hey," she said, nodding at Gale, Jude, and Ariane while trying not to show how randomly, stupidly nervous she felt. "They, uh, just transferred me in, so..."
Ugh she had no idea how to finish that sentence. Instead she settled for lifting her chin in a show of how totally not freaked out she was, honest.

Wilson stared at the text. The sender was Gale, which he vaguely recalled to be the blond lad. He didn’t know why the boy was calling for all of the death trainees to gather together—and most importantly the beach. Why the beach? It was winter and for reasons only God knew why, snow had blessed the island this season, so it was kind of damn cold. Wilson didn’t think it was very appropriate to meet at the beach. He would have preferred meeting inside a building, to be honest. It baffled the man so much he even sent a text back at the Intermediate hunter.text wait, why the beach? but kay i’m on my way. By the time he arrived, he already spotted a couple familiar figures. He tugged his hood over his head—he wasn’t being emo or whatever, his neck was just cold okay—and then waved at the other hunters. “Hey!” Wilson recognized Gale and Eva, but the others he had no clue. He squinted his eyes, craning his neck forward. Wilson felt a bit ashamed to say he was confused as to whether the other blond hunter was a man or a woman. The long hair kind of threw him off a bit. “So why’d you call us here?”
He shifted his gaze over to Madison and stared at her for a while. Transferred? Transferred…Oh! Wilson smiled at her. “You transferred? That’s neat. What do you think of the division so far?”

His head hurt, he didn't feel well. It was the worst hang over he'd ever had, and it had nothing to do with alcohol. He wouldn't have minded if it had been. But this? Joy withdrawals? Otto wanted to murder the one who'd made him act like a fool. He hated that he remembered it all, and he still couldn't understand why he'd slept next to a giant candy cane. Somehow though, he couldn't bring himself to get rid of it, and simply tossed it a corner to collect lint and dust. As Otto nursed a headache and nausea while lying in bed, his phone sounded off. No... no not a mission. He just couldn't handle doing anything right now. Alas, despite his persona, he was dedicated. With a groan, the trainee left the comfort of his bedroom and left for the beach. ~~~ Upon arrival, a small gathering of Death Hunters had already gathered, including Eva. He said nothing, his eyes squinting uncomfortably and his hands rubbing his temples. As a greeting, he glared at Gale. His coat was fancier than theirs. He obviously deserved a glare.

Aleister had been laying on his bed looking up at the ceiling with nothing to do but listen to Pookie when the phone alerted him to the text message. The death hunter sat up and looked at the message.
Soo.... apparently they were meeting at the beach. He didn't question it at least not for the moment and got up grabbing his jacket and scarf before heading to the location designated.
When he got there, he noticed there was no Caelius so a small frown crept across his face. "Sooo what are we doing tonight?" He almost paused in thought of adding on Brain, but then the possibility of Caelius showing up and not appreciating the comment was highly likely so the Death hunter thought better of adding that.

After running around to almost all the other divisions, Deryk finally found his way to the group he was supposed to be with. Quite frankly, he was glad to be at the right place for once. It was getting tiring running about the island. Arriving to the beach, he saw a number of other Death trainees around.
"Uh. Hey guys! What are we here for again? Beach party? Something else?"

Eva was the first to arrive, swaggering up cheerfully and giving both Gale, Jude, and Ariane a bright smile and a cheeky grin. Gale lifted his hand in greeting, his expression softening just a little, but he didn't have much time to return her greeting before the others started trickling in.
Maddie stepping towards them surprised him; hadn't she been in a different division before? Her uncertain hesitance made it obvious that she was not used to it, and Gale stuck out a hand to her.
"Welcome to the Death Division," he said, a faint smile touching his lips. "We're glad to have you here."
The sentiment, although quiet, was sincere; they did need all the help they could get.
He gave Wilson a small wave, studiously ignored Otto's glare (and may have rolled his eyes as well), and then nodded to both the blonde haired one who he thought might have been named Aleister, and then Deryk, who stepped in after the blonde.
"We'll explain in a few," said Gale. "Once the rest of the trainees arrive, we'll get started."

"Oh! Um, yes. Kinda. Caelius did... what Caelius does." Madison shrugged at Wilson, looking vaguely embarrassed. She didn't really want to share the tale of her somewhat foolhardy and unintended division swap just yet. "So now I'm here. Oh, um, I'm Madison, and this-" She touched the bracelet around her wrist. "-Is Kouki. And I haven't really done anything particularly... death-ish yet? I guess? What with the holidays and stuff."
Oh, the holidays. She was grateful for Gale's words for multiple reasons, at least partially because then she didn't have to think about the holidays any longer. "Thanks," she said with relief. "I'll, uh, I'm not sure about taking the reins on Death stuff yet, so... I'll follow you guys' lead for now, yeah?"

It was actually rather foggy that day, and while the fog was subtle as first, as normal as usual, there was a rather unusual quality about it. It sounded as if something was speaking quietly in whispers to them, just at the tips of their consciousness.
But before anyone could question out loud, something distinctly not white emerged from the fog, wisps around it seemingly fading into a thick white.
It looked....lost.BOSS FIGHT BOSS FIGHT: LOST TREE HP: 60/60 - Characters have unlimited turns to attack, but each time they attack, they take an even 10 damage to THEMSELVES. "No worries," said Gale, giving Maddie a reassuring half smile that was really just a quirk of his lips in what might have been an upwards direction. He patted her arm awkwardly, and then added, in a low murmur for only her and the other Intermediate trainees to hear, "It's not like we're all that clear on - "
Except his sentence wasn't quite finished, since, at that moment, something shifted to his left. Gale's eyes flickered in that direction, the sky doused with the thick fog that always encompassed the island, his brows furrowing together.
A whisper, a thought, a passing whim? tugged at his mind, but it was so fragile and precarious that Gale could not distinguish just what exactly it was.
The fog swirled again, shifting. And then -
"Oh."
That was...not fog. And it certainly did not look as though it belonged there, even if it was wandering around a bit morosely, as though confused as to its whereabouts.
There was a flash of white light that emanated from the ring on Gale's left index finger before the little piece of metal disappeared, a long, white rifle appearing in his hands instead.
He glanced at Jude, Ariane, and Maddie, clearly confused, his eyes asking their opinions as to what they should do.
"Well this is, er...not quite what we were planning on," he said, and pulled the sniper rifle up against his inner shoulder, extending the weapon along the length of his arm so that he could squint one eye through the telescopic lens.
"Well, we were going to discuss what we were doing, but I guess we have to take a little detour first..."
There was a loud bang as the first bullet went careening towards the tree, Gale lifting his head just in time to see it collide into the thick, grey branches. One swung out towards him, very nearly clocking him in the face, but he managed to sidestep the full brunt of it just in time, receiving a rather nasty whack to his neck instead.
"Ow."
Rubbing his reddened throat, Gale glanced around at the rest of the trainees, a vague, almost amused smile on his face.
"I think this is a good time to get a little target practice in, wouldn't you agree?"

Nodding to Gale, Deryk waited around to see what was going on around here exactly. He had heard some details from Robert, but perhaps Gale had a little more information. In any case, the didn't have that much time to figure things out before the scent of peppermint wafted through the air. It wasn't a bad smell, but he had to wonder where that was coming from.
That wasn't the only problem. Now he was hearing things. Tensing up, he quickly summoned Tooley, feeling a bit uncertain about everything now. The weird grey tree like creature that came out of the fog did not help him relax in the slightest.
"Target practice? Uh. Yeah. Sure. Whateveryousayman."
Moving in, the death trainee went ahead and slashed at the tree's branches, only to get pricked pretty hard by its needles.
"...Always did prefer fake trees for Christmas."

The eerie sense of the faintest of noises tickled the back of Otto's mind, his hands loosening from his head and looked around him. Fog, as usual. Yet...
Emerging from the fog was a sentient tree. Otto furrowed his brows and sighed heavily. So much for a beach party. This fight would not help his headache. The boy summoned his boomerang and sprang forward. However, he only managed to nick it before the tree swatted Otto away like a fly, sending his body skipping across the sand like a pebble over a pond.

"Welcome to the 'Family'," he said toward Maddie as he seemed content to just stand around for the moment at least until things started to go down. He heard whispers and there was something odd about the fog and then it appeared. He stared for a long moment.
Well. They couldn't let it go further than this.
He took only a moment to summon up his weapon once more as he moved forward to attack the creature that had emerged from the fog. A part of him felt sorry for it because it seemed lost but... Sorry or not it did not belong here.
Jude moved forward and mercilessly struck at the creature before receiving a backlash attack upside his head causing him to stumble back again, "Ugh."
