He looked down at the ground and was almost blinded by the sheen reflected back at him, so bright it was like a mirror. It burned beneath his paws, too, with a pale fire so intense that he was in complete and utter awe of its brilliance.
And then, as his eyes grew used to the brightness, the colour seemed less white and more gold and he took a short step to test his weight against it and felt it shift. The sensation might have been unfamiliar and unwanted by those not of the Blood, but to Rowtag, the sensation of the desert tide brought home an intense bout of homesickness.
He could have wept.
Except that around his paws the sand had begun to shift colour, turning from gold to dark, from red to black. He lifted each paw in turn and the darkness seemed to pour from him to taint the land around him. The sand absorbed this strange dark essence and in a panic he snapped his head around to see the desert dissolving. The darkness crawled like a living thing, scurrying to turn away the fire and bring all to black. And there, lying only a few steps away was a pale shape. White and beautiful. A lioness. The darkness came for her too, crawling up along her limbs and neck, threading through the fur on her face.
Rowtag bounded towards her and, with a dark paw, turned her head to look at him. There was no resistance and he thought her dead, except that her eyes flew open and in the sockets were twin balls of flame, burning brighter than anything he had ever seen before. He cried out in pain and slapped a paw over his own eyes in an attempt to protect them. And she spoke to him, deep and low with curses.
"You tainted me. You broke me. You killed me."
And he roared in pain and lashed out blindly, striking her down. The darkness took her and she screamed in such agony that he could not keep his eyes averted. He looked at her and wished that he hadn't, for she writhed there as she battled against the dark taint, her fire-lit eyes so full of pain and fury that he couldn't help but admire her strength.
And then she fell limp and the fire in her eyes went out. And, instead of gold - as he knew they had to be - they were a pale grey-blue. He recognised them.
"Miw-Sher."
Rowtag's eyes flashed open, her name on his lips as he shook violently in the aftermath of his nightmare. It was dark. It was safe. Moonlight streamed in. And yet it had all felt so real.
His eyes still burned.

Miw was not exactly awake however not exactly asleep at the same time. She wasn't dreaming that was for sure. She was in a stage of half zoning off. Her mind was going a little bit of everywhere. Row was back in the den with her but it was turning into a childish game of your side and my side. She still brought food home some times but she wasn't doing it as much upset that he was acting like the way he was. She wasn't that happy with it, really not happy at all that was for sure. She wanted to tell him to cut it out, bop him on the head and start being happy and having fun again. She was crossing her fingers for him to start working like that again, but she wasn't that sure if it was possible for that to happen.
Miw stretched out her legs and continued her thoughts. They were going a little bit of everywhere. She missed her family now that Row was acting like this. She was spending more of her time with her sister. She was pretty sure this is what happened when you were in love and things were getting bad. she thought that was what happened anyway. She wasn't that sure. She knew that she was upset though and she knew that she also really just wanted to cuddle. In the middle of her spacing though she heard the voice of another, it was Row but it was her name. She turned toward him her ears perked. she was confused. "Row?"

Row
His ears pinned back and he shifted, rolling onto his other side to peer all around him. Had the phantom followed him out of the dream-world? Would her eyes burn into him again? Blind him?
He blinked rapidly to try and clear his vision and grow used to the darkness but he was too panicked to think straight. He gave a low growl and tried to get his shaky legs to work - except that they refused him.
"Who's there?" He hissed. "Go away!"

Miw looked at him arching a brow, she wasn't even that sure if he was even awake that was for sure. She stared curiously at him, very much confused. She was going to stay on her side that was for sure. She was starting to pull herself out of her half asleep state. She shifted herself and then stared at the male. "Row, it's me." She said, she didn't think he was awake. But as he? She wasn't sure at all. She didn't want anything to happen. She hadn't had anything like this happen before. He was sleeping and she was definitely revealing a little bit of a scared side. He couldn't see it though. She was scared though.

He blinked.
The voice was familiar and it wasn't evil or angry or threatening. It was...it was the lioness who was not Zii. The one who...
He swallowed nervously, realised how stupid he was looking and fumbled for something to say. "You're alright?" He asked, moving a little closer. He couldn't see that she was afraid, which was probably for the best. "I thought..." And he reached out to touch a trembling paw to hers.
It was still pale. Not a scrap of black to be seen.
"You're...alright." He whispered before drawing his paw back to him and lifting his eyes tentatively to look at her.

Her eyes were wide with surprise to what the lion did as he started to wake up. She was actually pretty surprised as he started to get up. She looked at him curiously, watching her as he did. He wasn't exactly that sure of what to think but yet at the same time she did. She was happy he seemed kind, not angry. This was one of the first times in a while where he wasn't exactly that angry. Or so it seemed he wasn't that angry. she didn't think that he seemed angry. It was actually pretty calming to her that he didn't seem upset.
But once he started to talk, she was confused that was for sure. Of course she was alright, but on the other hand she was wondering if he was alright. Why was he asking her that? She wasn't really sure. She figured it had something to do with him dreaming. Thats what she was guessing anyway. She looked at him and then flicked her hair out of her eyes and then nodded to him with a very small smile on her face. "I'm okay, Row, I'm right here." She told him simply, looking at him. She didn't move, she didn't want to move she was afraid of scaring him. However on the other hand when he touched her paw she was very much startled. "Row, I'm right here. I'm okay, nothing is wrong." She told him, her voice quiet and low. She was hoping that he wasn't going to get upset. She didn't want him to try to get away She didn't want him to run away again, and she also didn't want him to get mad.

Nothing was wrong.
Nothing.
So why was he still shaking?
With a low sound that was not quite a growl, he took a step forwards and leaned against her, tucking his chin around her neck in a sort of lion-like hug. He squeezed her tightly as if she might turn to dust and scatter. Lost. Forever.
But she felt whole and solid and very real and he gave a low cry of disbelief. He hated the nightmares and that one had seemed...so vivid that it seemed impossible to be just a figment of his imagination.
"You were dead." He said at last.

Miw-Sher looked at the lion as he was shaking. He must have been dreaming. There must have been something bad that happened in it. That was how she felt anyway. she was pretty sure that is must have been a bad dream. To her that was the only thing that really made sense. If he was dreaming, she was pretty glad that he was turning to her for the comfort. She turned toward him and when he got closer to her she froze for a moment but relaxed as she held him. She was extremely surprised by that but she was happy. she was really comforted by everything.
She paused for a moment and got herself comfortable with her. She closed her eyes and then hummed a little softly. She was trying to be comforting to him. She was really hoping that he was comforted by her. She was hoping so anyway. "Row, it's okay. I'm here." She told him. "I'm here now, I'm okay, I'm alive." She said quietly before then looking at the lion and flicking her tail around behind her. "i'm not going anywhere Row."

"Well good." He replied somewhat groggily, leaning his weight on her as he shifted to lie down. Perhaps he'd stay here on her side of the den. Perhaps the bad dreams wouldn't get him over here.
He withdrew from her for a moment, comforted by the sound of her humming and then dropped to the ground, curling up as best as he could. His shaking had slowed a little now and strangely the earth felt warmer at this side of the den. He didn't ask whether it would be alright with her if he stayed there on her side. He wasn't the sort. But, he was sure if she had a problem with it, she would let him know.
She would be too stubborn to just let it go.

Miw was starting to be a little happy over the fact that the male was coming her way and seeming like he was going to be staying with her. If he was going to be staying with her that made her pretty happy that was for sure. She watched him curl up and she smiled a little. It was a soft smile that grew on her face. She was very happy She was enjoying staying by him. She leaned closer to him and then rested her head on his side right below where his mane ended. She was getting comfortable, whens she got comfortable she started to close her eyes before speaking to him. "I'm not going any where." She said quietly as she did, she wanted to go to sleep now and she was hoping that she could.

It did not take him long to fall back to sleep. Not when he was warm and comforted by the weight of her resting against his side. Even her scent seemed to ease him, chasing away the dream-smell of the desert that had stung so sharply at his nose.
And, when he did sleep, there was nothing to disturb him. No dreams. No nightmares. It was restful, his breath deep and rhythmic.
Perhaps he wouldn't even remember, come morning, what had happened. Perhaps he would wonder why he was curled up close to Miw-Sher. But love or not, he certainly felt safer with her around. It might be silly - considering she was a small thing herself - but it seemed to make no difference.
With her he was safe.
