Marcus had no idea why he’d though she’d like a kitten sweater. A Christmas kitten sweater. Well, actually he might have had a small idea. Girls like kittens and it was just after Christmas. It could be a politically correct Holiday sweater or something. Still, Marcus had it wrapped up in a pretty blue box and was off to visit Reine, who probably hated him but that was okay! He’d brought her a present. Everybody loves presents right?
Well, maybe not everyone. Some people on the island seemed the type to prefer to stab someone rather then get a gift. Hopefully Reine wasn’t one of those types. The halls were empty so if she did stab him no one would hear him scream. Comforting. Oh well, she would like her new kitten sweater right? Maybe hate him less? He could only hope. Knocking on her door he smiled like an idiot. ‘Everybody loves presents’ was the motto in his head.
This was totally a legit idea and Marcus regret nothing.

"Cominnnngggg!" Reine's mood was considerably improved due to Christmas, and there was almost nothing that could get her down- except maybe if you refused to celebrate Christmas, or if you didn't believe in Santa Claus, in which case Reine would probably burst into tears and attempt to fight you.
Luckily for Marcus he wasn't planning either of the two things, and so it was with a smile that Reine greeted him, even if it did wobble a little when she saw who it was when she opened the door.
"Hey Michael!" She hoped he wasn't here to pry more. She had a book of christmas stories to thwap him over the head with, if he tried anything weird!

Michel? Who was that? He was Marcus, moon hunter. That creep Reine, how could you forget him so quickly? Way to cut his pride."My name is Marcus." He said, visibly a little sad she didn't remember his name. "I felt bad for sending you to the infirmary so I got you something!" He offered her the (poorly) wrapped box. Either he'd wrapped it in a hurry, or he just sucked at wrapping. It was mostly the fact he just sucked at wrapping, half the edges seemed to be covered in pure tape.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS REINE!" Open it. Openitopenitopenit.

"Marcus isn't anywhere near christmassy enough," she chided him, looking sort of disapproving. Not that the name Michael had anything to do with Christmas, now that she thought about it. Maybe his name should be Nicholas instead. Like Santa Claus.
Reine cheered up visibly when he offered her the present, in part because he sounded so excited.. It took forever to open, mainly because she had to rip the tape apart with brute force, and she didn't have very much brute force. After minutes of fighting with the package and eventually using Alynthe to cut it open (though the weapon protested), ribbons of tape and shreds of wrapping paper littered the floor around her, but in her hands was a sweater.
With a kitten on it.
A kitten twice the size of her face, almost, with large blue eyes that stared into your soul as it slowly devoured it.
But why Marcus had bought a sweater that big for her was beyond Reine, and she could only stare at him somewhat confusedly. Maybe... he had thought it was a blanket?

Marcus was not a Christmas name no. Sorry Reine, he was going to keep his name. It was better than John Windwalker at least. Windwalker sounded like and RPG name and one that didn't take place during Christmas either. He'd think about that name change later though.
He was happy she seemed to cheer up with the gift, (even if it took her a while to open), and was probably as excited if not more for her. She...didn't seem too excited by the fact it was a big fluffy kitten sweater. It had a kitten! And it would be warm! And it was so cold outside and..he tried Reine. He really did.
"You don't like it?" He looked heartbroken. He thought it was wonderful and- Sighing he looked at his feet. "I'm sorry."

"It's super fluffy," she offered. And it was! Maybe Mister Cuddles could, well, cuddle under it. Reine glanced over at the sullen-looking bear as if hoping for a thumbs-up, then beamed up at Marcus. She wasn't one to turn down a present, and she knew how to be polite, okay? Besides, it really was kind of cute, especially the way it looked at you...
"I love it to bits!!" He looked so upset, she couldn't help but awkwardly reach out to pat him on the shoulder. "You're not such a bad guy after all, huh?" Since the last time they met he hadn't asked about the Robert stuff again, so she supposed she could give him a second chance.
After all, wasn't christmas the season of giving?
"Thank you," she added snuggling the sweater-blanket-thing to her. "I didn't get you anything for Christmas, though," Reine admitted. "I should be the one saying sorry..."

She- she liked it? And she thought it was fluffy? Joy upon JOY! There was hope for him after all. he thought she would like how cute it was. Kittens were always cute. It was a 100% fact. And you just couldn't say no to kitten. Unless you were heartless. You weren't heartless were you Reine? Were you?
Marcus hoped not.
"I try not to be a bad guy. I mean, we're the good guys, saving the world and making sure nothing bad happens and yeah! I try not to be a bad guy. I will be a good guy for you. I promise." Heading into creeper zone. What zone? Nothing...nothing. Dis was going to let Marcus dig his own grave.
"Ah, You're welcome! It's just nice to give gifts. And it's okay. I mean. The best gift I could ask for is your smile?" Dumbass.

She most certainly wasn't heartless; a better question was, what was in her heart? Reine let him blabber on, listening and nodding her head where it seemed appropriate; she figured he need the reassurance more than anything, really, with the way he seemed to be trying to convince himself.
And it wasn't as if she disliked the present, she just hadn't really expected it. Perhaps she should go out and get him something small, because as much as she could appreciate a christmas gift, this particular one left her a feeling that she would somehow be indebted to him, and she didn't want that.
"Yes, you're a very good guy, I'm sure," she mumbled absent-mindedly. That incident involving the extremely rude invasion of privacy was still fresh in her mind, but-- wait, did he think he could buy her trust with a gift? Reine raised an eyebrow when he spoke again- he wanted a smile out of her, did he?
One step forwards, three steps back, Marcus.
But she could give the guy a break, maybe he was just ridiculously cheesy. Maybe he watched terrible romance movies and learned from them. Shrugging, Reine attempted as genuine a smile as she could- though, the more you tried to make yourself smile, the more awkward it actually looked.
Oh well.

Marcus felt like he'd done wonderful progress and they were back on track to a wonderful friendship. JOY blinded him to the fact that yes, he was really bad at this and that also yes, he should have listened to Dis and just given the gift passively or something. Talking to Reine was like a slow train wreck and the weapon was set to sighing as it played out. "Thank you Reine." Grinning, he started to walk away calling back at her, "Merry Christmasssssss. If you need help with anything let me know!" Dis wasn't betting how often she'd take him up on that offer.

"No, thank you~" Reine waved the sweater-blanket-thing at Marcus like it was a flag as she watched him leave--- and then she thought of something.
"Hey, wait! Don't go!" She still had some cookies left over from baking with Julie! Maybe she hadn't gone out to get him a gift specifically, but these were hand-made, with lots of love joy, so maybe that made up for it? Plus, these tasted delicious, more than one person had told her that.
Running back into her room she grabbed the small bag sitting on her table, then caught up to Marcus along the corridor and passed it to him.
"Merry Christmas too," she smiled, a little more genuinely this time, before promptly skipping back down the hallway. In her room, Reine dove onto the bed, scattering plushies everywhere, and gave Mister Cuddles a.. well, cuddle. Minutes later the bear was wearing the sweater, though he did not look any more pleased.
If anything, Reine swore the corners of his mouth turned down just the slightest bit more.
