Times Square 10:00 PMIt was common knowledge for Hunters that four barrier daggers could isolate any Halloween portal. Six, in comparison was much harder to set up, as it took time to secure each point.
Ten Barrier Daggers was the request Liam had given the barrier team. It would take exactly that many to at least isolate Times Square from the rest of the city, the rest of the world. This was their only fallback, their potential last stand, in case anything went wrong.
Unlike the other two teams, the barrier team had no division leader, not any more. They had to do this with only minimal help from their headsets. They had to function as a group and make every second count. OOC: Times Square Center - It is so crowded, people don't even notice the Hunters! It also seems to be raining outside and cold, the sky already dark. In the Human World, it is already 10:00 pm. People are already gathered outside. - The Barrier Daggers must be constructed successfully all 26 in a row. In each of your posts roll a 100-sided dice. You can only roll once per attempt until the dagger setup fails. If you roll higher than a 50 your dagger setup is a success. If you roll lower than a 50 your setup is a fail, and the entire barrier setup is destroyed, and your whole team has to start again from scratch. EXAMPLE:Person A rolls 51 (first post) SUCCESS - Rp out success this is DAGGER NUMBER 1. Person A cannot roll again until all 10 daggers are set by different players though they can rp out reactions. . Person B rolls 80 (second post) SUCCESS - Rp out success this is DAGGER NUMBER 2. Person B cannot roll again until all 10 daggers are set by different players though they can rp out reactions. Person C rolls 3 (third post) FAIL. The Barrier construct has failed. They need to start all over again. AT THIS POINT PERSONS A, B and C can roll again as well. - Make sure to mark in the bottom of your post whether or not the roll was successful and what NUMBER DAGGER it is - There are unlimited reaction posts please quote your targetOOC - If you are a MIST HUNTER YOU ARE NOW HERE. - Also these people are here as well: Warden Victors Billie Mcmara Julien Bond Mya Jones

He'd barely recovered before he was being pulled away with the rest of the Mist hunters. Leaving the kid behind wasn't something that he wanted to do, but it as necessary. Maybe if was there to work on the barrier he could prevent anything from reaching the boy. As he tried to leave the healing station he learned that Mya had been placed with the Mist hunters. He took it in stride. Hopefully someone knew what they were doing, and it didn't always hurt to have a bit of diversity in the group. At least this way he could keep an eye on her. He stayed pretty well glued to her side as they got their mission. Well, she was handy with barrier daggers, he could give her that. That was probably why she was with them. He got to work immediately, sinking in a dagger and then turning to the girl. He'd worked with her before, he knew she was capable. He also knew that he had been around longer, and he was more capable. And she was injured. "How's the shoulder?" He was concerned about her, she had been bleeding pretty heavily before they left. He stepped close to her, bodies almost brushing, and began to check for himself, having seen more than his fair share of wounds. "Looks like you'll pull through just fine, but don't go putting yourself into any extra danger." He shot her a warning look. "And don't go around firing Bessy. You can't handle her with a shoulder like this. I've got a spare bandage if you think you need it though." Success! Dagger #: 1

No rest for the wicked it seemed, or for those who fought against it. No sooner had Mya's bandages been redressed, then she had been hustled to her feet, given a headset, and told that she was to leave with the Mist hunters. She swallowed heavily. She hadn't been able to find Julien, and now she wasn't going to have the chance. Don't worry about it so much, you already said your goodbyes to him. Work to do now, so you need to focus! But it was really hard to focus, walking next to Lucas. She kept feeling his eyes on her, even if it was just her imagination, and her thoughts kept going back to earlier. It was nice that she was at least going to be with somebody familiar, but she would really rather that somebody be Julien. She could always try and reach him on the headset though, right? That would be better then nothing. As her and Lucas stopped, her gaze swept the area, mentally marking where each dagger would probably need to be placed. She watched as Lucas sunk his into the ground, and took out a dagger to do the same. But then he was reaching for her, looking at her shoulder....and that faint blush crept up her cheeks one more time. "It's fine, nothing more then a few shallow cuts. Your silly gun just made it worse." She licked her lips nervously as he got closer to her, not trusting herself to not just completely break down and throw herself into his arms. Slowly, almost painfully, she pulled herself away. "Come on now, I need to get this thing set up, preferably before the end of the world strikes." She laughed bitterly, and moved to the location she had mapped out already, and drove her dagger into the ground. And got nothing. s**t. Status: FAIL Dagger #: 2ramenli You are pure evil. I love it.

No division leader (Missing, presumed dead at best. More likely worse. Still alive but in a bad way improbable but when you're on a sucicide mission you can always hope). No artifact (Should have seen that coming). No clue where it was (Always the way). The entirety of Times Square to cordon off just in case it turns explosive (Crap). A ten dagger relay needed to do it (Double crap). Lee stared at her barrier dagger as it failed to activate on being plunged. Oh, this was going to be fun. Status: Fail Dagger #: 0

So then. Their division leader was dead. <********>. Megan spat on the ground. This mission really was ******** like crazy, not to mention the barrier was going to be a b***h and a half to set up. And judging from what little progress they made before the thing flipped out and failed, they might not even manage it. She was sore from fighting the ******** from the gate, and no doubt others felt a lingering burn from the scuffle as well.
Where was a miracle when you needed one? Not here, never for a hunter. They scraped by the skin of their teeth, and that was IF they were lucky. This time they needed all the luck they could get, with this many barriers to set up- It looked like an uphill battle. One which they wouldn't win. Bleak and hopeless, a hunter's daily bread and butter. If she survived this, she was going to go back to her post and avoid the s**t out of the others. At least at her post they didn't ask for the impossible.
They didn't ask her to try and do the improbable. But it was time to set up the last defense they had.
And Megan set it up like a ******** pro.

Julien had never felt fear like he had from seeing that... unholy creature just walk out of the wall like that. He had felt it ooze through his entire spine, and when the big guy had pulled on him to get out of there the pale blonde man had grabbed his pendant quickly. Now here he was, but he had gotten separated from Reuben somehow. Instead, he was with (of all things) the Mist Hunters!! Mya was somewhere here! Julien attempted to push through the crowd only to stop stone cold dead. He had found Mya alright. Mya was letting that Lucas man touch her. She was blushing. Something had happened while Julien was away and even though he was often an idiot, it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out something had happened between the two while he was off risking his life. The anger that burst through his chest was almost inhuman. At least it felt that way.
Julien didn't reply to Robert for once, just let the words continue to fuel his anger as he slammed a barrier dagger in place with as much force as he could manage with a cold smile before standing up and offering that smile to the two of them.
"Romaya. Lucas. Glad to see that you are both alright this evening."

It was so... crowded. Not that was a surprise, but there were so many people that is was a little uncomfortable to be carrying out a mission. At least no one noticed they were there, but what if someone happened to glance them shoving their daggers into the ground? ... Awkward. She waited for a moment and then slammed the dagger home, holding the breath. One... two... nothing.

Billie and Warden had been instructed to stay with the barrier team. This meant neither of them was with their proper division but it was the last thing on her mind. She was grateful that someone there had thought to put them together. It may have been coincidence, or perhaps because they both were a bit older with more experience. If she was going to die, it would be with him. DON'T. Dekina, for once, seemed to want to comfort her. She couldn't help but smile. Perhaps this was also some measure of hope on the weapon's part. If Billie fell, so would Dekina and if another hunter didn't grab the staff then it would also die with her. The others had already started and they had quite the undertaking ahead of them. Billie was next to Warden and held his hand tightly, no words, until the last second when she started to work. DAGGER #1 SUCCESS

Mya had bent down to pull her dagger back out of the ground, feeling like she must have misjudged the distance or hadn't concentrated hard enough or something. She didn't usually have a problem with this kind of thing. But then again, she wasn't normally so distracted by her own thoughts. It had begun to rain some time ago, and she shivered beneath her torn and blood stained jacket, wondering why on earth she hadn't grabbed a new one from the medical tent earlier. The crowd around her seemed to push closer together, the sounds of celebrating surrounding her. She made a disgusted sound in the back of her throat, and started to push her way back towards Lucas. As she approached him, she simply shook her head, and pointed to his dagger, indicating that the barrier had gone out. "We have to go again!" She had to practically shout at him, the sounds of the crowd and the rain pelting the ground drowning out her words. And then there was a flash of light, as a dagger was forced into the ground near where they stood, and she shielded her eyes from the rain to look up. She found herself gazing right into Julien's face. Her heart rose in her chest, but quickly fell. That look he was giving her! Did he know what had happened, or was he just mad because he had found Mya with Lucas, the one man he told her to stay away from? Her mouth opened as though to say something, but no words came out as Julien spoke to them first. Her body, that was already shivering in the rain, became colder still. He had used her full name, her real name. He never called her that, not ever! There were several ways Mya could have reacted to this. She could have gotten upset, she could have ran away. She could have even gotten angry. and yelled at the man standing above her, looking at her with such disdain. Instead, she felt her face slip behind it's calm, empty mask, her eyes going steely and her voice coming out cold as ice. "Julien." Her eyebrows rose. "Darling. I know you aren't much for the fine art of defense, what with being a high and mighty Fear hunter, and being a part of the Sun Division to top it off. But for goodness sakes, don't you think that maybe, just MAYBE when setting up a barrier one aught to pick a location away from where another person is setting up their part of the barrier. I mean, really sweetie, it's just common sense!" she spat that last part out at him, then moved forward to reach down and yank his dagger, now useless, out of the ground. Then, with her free hand, she grabbed him by the sleeve of his dirty, rumpled, and now incredibly wet jacket, and began to pull him along, away from Lucas so that she could talk to him in private. "I don't know what's gotten into you." She hissed at him, turning her head back and looking up at him as they moved (assuming he was coming with her) "I've been out here, fighting off the creatures from hell, getting myself torn up, and most of all, through it all, worrying about you. And this is the reaction I get when you come back out? In what will probably be our last moments together, you are going to throw a jealous little hissy fit?? OVER LUCAS??" Ok, so maybe she was going to get a little bit angry. Just a smidge though. Her steps finally stopped, and she whirled around completely, her dark eyes full of emotion, and glittering with the tears she wouldn't allow to fall, as she drew her dagger and slammed it into the ground. She was once again, rewarded with nothing. Which was appropriate, considering how incredibly empty her chest felt at this moment. Status: Fail! Dagger #:2

He could feel it - the tension in the air was so thick Warden felt as though he were actually breathing it in, inhaling the sharp, horrible stench of foreboding and letting it seep into his lungs.
He didn't want to feel this.
-- Careful, Warden. Very careful. --
He no longer knew what it would be like to not have the voice in his head. Ten years of listening to the soft, gentle strains of Tee had come second nature to Warden, enough that he knew he would most likely go crazy without it. It had become so engrained into his mind and body that he could not even remember the life he had held before or what it had been like to have only one voice in his head. Perhaps it sounded crazy - to anyone other than a FEAR hunter - but it was his life now.
A life that suddenly seemed as though it would not last much longer.
Billie's fingers were tight around his, so tight that Warden was almost surprised by the strength. But he did not make a move to pull away, nor did he wish to. He was not with his fellow Sun Hunters, but it did not matter - not anymore, not when he could feel his body thrumming with a horrible sense of a terrible anticipation.
I will stay you.
The rain slid down his face, cold and wet, as Warden flung the dagger into position. It wobbled for a moment, unsteady, but then snapped out of place. There was a small sizzling sound, and the dagger Billie had impacted - already loosened by another hunter - collapsed, the entire setup falling apart.
Warden swore under his breath, his hair plastered to his forehead.
"This isn't working well," he muttered.

"I don't get it.." She huffed, her temper starting to show, but she was good at keeping it in check. "Maybe it's the rain." Though that shouldn't matter. They had advanced technology here... a little rain shouldn't make everything go haywire. She jammed another dagger down only to watch it fail. s**t. My god they were so ********. She up the most beautiful dagger for the barrier, the guy after her doing just about the same level of quality, and then poof. Gone. ********. They were so ********. Hell, not even the FEAR hunters were good at this s**t.
Looking at her comrades, Megan felt a sense of dread. They were not a super cohesive until. They were rag-tag, stranger, trying in vain to work together to save the world. And to think, she wanted to have a position of authority in her division too. Well- Considering that their lead was dead Lars would probably rise up, the b*****d. She could see it now, Lars ******** up everything, getting them all killed. It would be a train wreck.
As she worked at setting up the dagger, she sighed and in that simple second- "********." She ruined it. So much for being good at this s**t.

Warden's next barrier dagger was thrust so angrily into the ground that he almost broke it. As it was it jammed in better than others had, finally staying in place.
Though he had a sneaking suspicion it would not be for long.
