So, back in my grade 10 year, we had an assembly where a number of elective candidates came to have a Q&A session. One of those candidates, David Popescu, was questioned by one of the male students in my school about his views on gay marriage, and his response was that all homosexuals should be put to death.
An article on the matter can be found here.
I know that this is old news, but I thought that it would be an interesting topic to discuss. Lets try not to turn this into an anti-religious discussion, as not all people of faith share his views. What I'd like to know is how anyone in their right mind could think that saying something like that is a good idea. I mean, not only is it a terrible thing to say, but did he honestly think that he could make such a comment and not get the entire auditorium booing at him? Not only is it incredibly ignorant, but it seems rather stupid to me as well.

Old news or not, unfortunately there will be people that believe that.
It is a terrible thing to say and believe. Just because someone is different from you in some way, doesn't make them bad or deserving to be executed. That seems to be a dangerous way of thinking and a slippery slope.
Doesn't seem very Christian like to me though, but I guess I won't get into that. I may not be religious but it makes others look bad as not all are like that.
I agree, he doesn't seem to think before he says things.

I knew quite a few Christians who were as uncomfortable being in that auditorium with him during the assembly as the other students were. On top of that, that high school is known for being tolerant, whether it be in the case of sexual orientation, religious views, or anything else. Kids who didn't fit in for whatever reason tended to feel much more accepted in that school, and I knew a number of people who felt comfortable being open about their sexuality there, even when they couldn't be at home.
With that in mind, our school was probably one of the worst places in the city where he could have made a comment like that. Not that he should have said it anywhere, but that was one particular crowd that most definitely didn't appreciate what he had to say.

Ignorance is the best way to lose any election.
