Now that Obama has signed the NDAA into law stating that they can make any citizen disappear to be tortured or imprisoned indefinitely without trial, how many of you want to move to Canada or Mexico?

The past 8 or so years, I've been growing more and more tempted to go to Canada over the U.S., if either on vacation or for working.

Not entirely true.
Obama refused to sign the bill with the part allowing the military to detain prisoners indefinitely. As a compromise, he allowed the bill to go through with all its other essential parts but only giving himself that authority, and at the same time, saying that he would never use it.
Technically, yes, Obama (the "government") has the power to do it. Will they? nah
Sorry to rain on your Nationalism parade.

That he has the power at all is frightening enough, Cho. And even if he, personally, doesn't use it - can you guarantee the same of the next President? The one after?

They've always had the actual power to do it anyway if they really wanted to. France has the right to arrest you if you wear a hood now. You can never guarantee any leader of anywhere will do anything, they tend to change after elected to fit their own objectives.

What? France? It's not like anybody got a good reason to cover their faces there anyway. Thought that was what their law was all 'bout, stopping people from covering their faces while/after doing silly things.

Technically, yes, Obama (the "government") has the power to do it. Will they? nah Bush Jr. said they wouldn't use the Patriot Act to spy on innocent American civilians either... but they did/do. Furthermore, are you aware it was Obama and his administration who PERSONALLY asked the authors of the bill to ensure that the part where they can arrest American citizens was left in the bill. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FHXhMhcsRY) The police brutality against innocent protestors at the Occupy demonstrations was NOTHING compared to what's going to happen when Martial Law hits the streets. What's next, if SOPA passes he's going to say he won't really use it either? CH0Z0 Sorry to rain on your Nationalism parade. Come on now CH0, you know that the only part of America I don't like is the people who own the place. That's not being nationalist, that's being against the obvious villain. How much will it take to convince you that Obama's full of s**t and will absolutely use NDAA to arrest political dissidents and anti-government/anti-war/anti-corporate citizens? Have you driven down an interstate highway yet and seen the TSA Gestapo checkpoints with armed guards and dogs? ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lethJ2IMiE) Have you been extensively and unnecessarily groped or molested at an airport/bus terminal yet or gone through one of their cancer causing body scanners? ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ba030UmbkCo) All this information is available to search on the internet and in public record so you can verify all these for yourself. Make your own decision after that and tell me America isn't turning into a totalitarian dictatorship.

Secks Shae How much will it take to convince you that Obama's full of s**t and will absolutely use NDAA to arrest political dissidents and anti-government/anti-war/anti-corporate citizens? I haven't been on Obama's side for a long time, regardless of my Political affiliation. The Congress is especially corrupt. I would still like topics to have the entire truth in them, though, not scary law #3 has passed. DOOM. Secks Shae Have you driven down an interstate highway yet and seen the TSA Gestapo checkpoints with armed guards and dogs? I live here and can honestly say that in over 1,000 miles of road traveled, no. Secks Shae Have you been extensively and unnecessarily groped or molested at an airport/bus terminal yet or gone through one of their cancer causing body scanners? Flew to Hawaii last summer, had to go through 3 airports, no troubles for anyone I saw, though I fully expected it, she (ew, her, the traitor) was the one telling me to calm down in fact since I had never flown in a jet before. Also, I hate the Bushes. (but ew, I hate the Clintons more)

I would still like topics to have the entire truth in them, though, not scary law #3 has passed. DOOM. Your version of the truth, my version of the truth, the gov's version of the truth. It's all perspective. However everything I've mentioned is in public record freely available for you to research yourself and form your own opinion on. I'll admit, I may be fear mongering just a little. But it's for good reason as I'm concerned about family & friends I have in America. As well, I'm concerned because I know in my heart that what's coming for Americans is only a short step away for what's coming to the rest of the world. The people who run the show are both tired & scared of us all, we're getting too smart and too free spirited so they're clamping down on us and moving ahead with their global agenda. CH0Z0 Also, I hate the Bushes. (but ew, I hate the Clintons more) Honestly, your country hasn't had a free thinking/non-puppet President since Kennedy. And my country lost its chance to have a truly great leader when Jack Layton died and hasn't had one since... whoever came before Pierre Trudeau...

Kennedy was always one of my favorites, then it kinda went downhill from there indeed. My parents personally liked Nixon the best, (sans watergate of course).

Gakre What? France? It's not like anybody got a good reason to cover their faces there anyway. Thought that was what their law was all 'bout, stopping people from covering their faces while/after doing silly things. Maybe they have a horrible face disfigurement that they like to hide to avoid drawing extra attention to themselves for or they have an order from the doctor to avoid extra sunlight hitting their face due to some ailment. I hate when people use the no shades of grey argument that no one has anything to hide unless they are something wrong.
