“So whatcha going to teach us, pops?” The black and white juve grinned up at his father. Or rather his ‘uncle’ as he preferred to be called out in public. Ea had learned long ago though much more quickly than the rest of his siblings that his real father was the large rogue with the dark gaze rather than the polite Sekayi. It was Sekayi who he preferred to call uncle over Xennek. After all it was the bigger lion who he resembled most. Well personality wise anyway. Maybe that was why he got in trouble the most?
Frowning Xennek climbed up the rock face, “I’m not certain yet. I suppose you’ve been pestering me enough about the basics of a duel.” And so had their mother and Sekayi both. So came the compromise of two cubs at a time and here he was leading his youngest away from the den.
“Awesome.” Ea who was normally so laid back actually held a hint of excitement, “And who else is coming?”
“Adenah.”
Immediately there was a pause, “Adenah?” Still his gaze held some amusement. Maybe while his father wasn’t looking he could tackle his sibling with all he had. He after all lacked that gentleman part when it came to a good play fight. But this was serious training now. Nodding the juve moved on. Plus it was Adenah and in the way she was the sibling that he sometimes felt most connected to. Whether because of their lack of red or the similar fire of their inner spirit he didn’t know.

The young juve knew she was running late when Ea was already on the scene. Trying all the world not to look like the cat who had snuck into the cream, Adenah approached her brother and 'Uncle' Xennek. Even though it hadn't been told to her formally, she knew who he was, by now it was painfully obvious.
"Would you prefer someone you can actually beat?" She grinned, passing him up and flipping her tail up in his face. Adenah looked over her shoulder with a light hearted laugh before coming to sit between Ea and Xennek. While her brother may have been stronger than her, Adenah had held her own in more than a few fights by just using her brain to stay ahead.

Crinkling his nose Ea made a face as his sister walked past him, "Nah, I was just hopin' for an actual challenge." Casting an ever so innocent grin towards her the juve blinked up at their father with curiosity. So was he really putting Adenah against him? Peeking over at her the male snorted before looking away. Out of all his siblings...meh. He just had to make certain to not lose to her...she wouldn't let him forget it after all.
Xennek chuckled at the behavior of the two juves, "Alright you two stop bickering and put some claws into those words." Standing he stretched out his legs and then circled around them, "The first thing of a duel is finding someone to challenge." He looked between Ea and Adenah with a smile, "The best to challenge are those who really get your blood fired up. I won't have any sissy practicing with just a few scrapes. If you want to learn to be warriors then you must train sincerely so that you can learn to know blood lust and to also be able to control it."
Ea still made a face as he looked towards Adenah, "But really?"
"Yes really." Xennek pointed a paw towards his son, "You especially need to be able to learn from your sister. She'll gain strength from having to fight you off, but you better learn to pay attention to moves like she does. Brawn is not the only thing to win a fight, Ea."
Ears tilting back Ea nodded with frustration warming his cheeks, "Yes sir."

"Me too. It's not like I enjoy fighting a brother with the brain of a slug." Adenah teased, giving in to a little grin. Around Ea she felt much more at ease to tease and pester, as opposed to just about everyone else. They all intimidated her, or belittled her, but here she felt on equal ground.
Still, she wasn't sure how a fight against him would go. She watched her "Uncle" with soft eyes, absorbing his words like a mantra. She must be able to control her blood lust? Did she even HAVE blood lust? The young female definitely had tenacity, as she'd been told after having traveled farther than most her age, just on sheer will alone, but blood lust?
She scrunched her nose, and rolled her eyes at her brother. Great. Apparently she wasn't the only one doubting herself. "What if I don't want to be a Warrior, though? What if I want to be a Medic or..or something like that?"

"Brain of a slug really?" Ea reached out to smack her across the maw before pulling back at the last second instead leaving her an image of him sticking his tongue out at her face, "I'm too fast to be that slow even when it comes to thinking."
Xennek looked at Adenah and surprisingly didn't frown at her for her words, "Not everyone will become warriors - I know that." He paused and looked at her thinking of all the healers who had saved him on his journey to this place. So many times he had nearly died, but ones such as Lalika or Patton had always helped him.
"Don't you have to be gentle to be a medic though?" Ea retorted quietly flashing a grin towards his sister.
"Far from that." Interjected Xennek with a laugh before sombering up, "Still Adenah what good is a medic if they can't hold their own during hard times? Just because you tend to the wounded wouldn't mean that you would be safe from wars or assault. This isn't to make you a great warrior, if it's not your path then so be it, but I will make certain you can at least hold your ground against others."
Ea snorted, "Yeah, might be nice for ya Adenah." He looked teasingly towards her, "I won't always be around to defend your backside."

"I doubt that. You probably eat your own boogers when no one's watching." She hated how she flinched when he almost attacked her, and how she reacted with a flinch instead of rising to meet the challenge. It's what the others teased her for, though, and why they picked on her during training sessions. It was why her best friend was a bully; better to befriend the brute than to be beaten by her.
"Shut up, Ea, honestly." Adenah snapped. She walked over to him, standing as tall as she could. "You have to be smart enough to know when to be nice and when to be stern. Medics hold lives in their paws; don't you think they need to be just as strong as a warrior to save the live that some claw almost took?"
She could stand so much lip from her brother, but she wouldn't hear him talking bad about Medics. Or Historians, Waterseekers- the whole lot was better than bullies, anyway. Smarter, quicker, better. Taking a deep breath, she settled herself and sat back down, visibly farther away from her brother. "Yeah, I guess so..." The older lion was right, of course, but it still bothered her. "

Ea just snorted at his sister. Always insulting him like this…his gaze flickered towards her quietly before he just as quickly looked away. Hah! Like he should even care if she insulted him! He could always pummel her into the ground. Pouting the juve curled his tail around his paws, though the tip still flicked back and forth in annoyance. He just wanted to train already and not throw insults about. He could only stand picking on his sister so much after all. Not like he would let her know that!
Still it was hard to hold his tongue, “Pfft. That’s the point you have to be nice.” His gaze looked over at her teasingly, “I understand their importance, Adenah. I just see you impacting more damage than good to others…at least don’t let me ever be a patient one day.” She would most likely rip into his wound a good bit before even thinking of herbs to heal him. A shiver went down his back at the thought. Surely not. They fought a lot, but hopefully his sister wouldn’t be that cruel.
“Alright enough you two.” Xennek stood on his paws and motioned towards both of them, “I need you two to use your claws rather than just your words now.” Circling around them the lion drew a line through the sand, “Each of you pick a side.”
Frowning Ea walked over and stood in the left while watching his father and sister. What was up with the whole line treatment?
“Now you both are going to try to drag each other into your side.” Xennek motioned towards the line once more, “If any part of your body touches the ground on your opponent’s side, you’ll lose.”
Ea just blinked. Wait what? He couldn’t just go and jump over the line and drag Adenah to him? His paws couldn’t touch the ground…so it was a risk to try grabbing her. If she pulled back she could easily make him tumble in mid attack to her side. Gritting his teeth the juve just stared before walking back and forth next to the line, “Make your move sis.”
