Westenberg is a busy town, lots of bustling people of all kinds and busy industry encompassing just about any business or trade you might think of. A major road runs alongside the western walls, and enters the town in two places, complete with gates and guards to keep order. A dark forest looms over the road on the other side, and to the east lies somewhat tamed countryside, dotted with farms. The weather is average, snowy and blustery in the winter and sunny and pleasant in the summer.

Just like any other average town, there are taverns for wayfarers and townsfolk alike to rest, eat, and talk. The biggest is named The Red Dragon, and its ales are famous for miles. It is large, fairly well-maintained, and you can always get food or drink any time of day or night, though occasionally the rooms are full-booked, and you'll have to try the smaller places. The staff are discreet and the clientele diverse.

Will you stop in for a drink?

Oh hey! Welcome to Random Adventures, a freeform, relaxed place to hang out and have some fun!

The entire point is to have as few rules and expectations as possible, but let me lay down a few basics:
1. Have fun! Be wacky! Be weird! Be different! Be creative!
2. Profiles are not necessary. Please post up a basic description of your character in your first post, but really that's all that's needed.
3. One-liners are frowned upon. You don't have to post a novel, but try to keep some kind of narrative going in your post, we want to move things along pretty quickly!
4. Stick to all guild and Gaia rules.
5. Be nice!

That's it! Anything else goes.

GOAL: A fast-paced, freeform roleplay with no restrictions and a penchant for good plain fun! Anyone is welcome at any time. Bring along your old favorite characters or make up a new one and start fresh.

Here we go!

*stretches after having not roleplayed for years* Boy am I going to be rusty! Here goes nothing!

~~~~~~~~
A strange aura began to hang over the dim forest near Westenberg. Animals fled the area, with birds being the most visible and loudest offenders. Soon, faint points of light began to appear, undulating to some unknown rhythm. As their numbers increased as pattern of movement started to emerge; they were slowly converging by spiraling inward. This phenomenon was focused only a few feet above the treetops, so only thse close to the forest would probably notice. As some of the particles made their way to their nexus, the formed an irridant disc parallel to the ground. Within a minute, all the light was gathered into the disc which now had a diameter of about 4 feet. This circle flashed suddenly and a lean figure came falling out from it. Thankfully, the tree branches broke most of his fall. By the time he hit the ground, the disc vanished in a glittering array of colors. The man, dressed in black leather attire with silver accents got up slowly and took a long look at the trees around him.
Yes, the time machine works! That old coot will be so glad to hear the news! ... Wait, he didn't give me any way to get back, did he? That bumbling codger drops 5000 years in the past and forgets to provide a means back! This man's face went all too quickly from amazement to anger. Before long, he calmed himself and began to think. I don't even have any supplies, from my time or from this era. I guess I'll have to interact with the people, grandfather paradox or butterfly effect be darned. Now to find civilization... The man, having teal hair and yellow irises, made his way through the woods, admiring the beauty of nature. In his time, plant life had been rendered extinct after World War 17. After a few minutes, he came to a clearing near the edge of the forest.
A young fox was sitting outside one of the smaller inn-spaces just at the edge of town, and one could see into the forest from where he sat. His form was mostly human, aside from the snowy white ears atop his head, and a large and well-groomed, matching, tail curled around his waist. He smoked at a Kiseru (Japanese traditional pipe), and kept his slitted eyes peering towards the trees nearby. He'd seen lights and flashiness, and was curious to see if something would come of them.
A white shawl rested about his bare shoulders, with swirls of designs over them, while loose white pants donned his lower half. He wore sandals, and also had an assortment of tattoos and scars over his tanned skin. A foreigner, he was a traveler and a mercenary of sorts, though he didn't advertise unless he needed the work.
Taking another puff, the smoke came out as silver foxes dancing in the air before they faded away. A hand lifted and scratched at his head, white hair drifting into his face before he brushed it out.
"Hnn..."
Haha, basically my avatar but with a big white tail, rather than the many red and black ones. And fox ears rather than human ones >>;;
She should be getting close to the town. That's what they said. The idea that she'd be there soon gave her jitters. Maybe her father was right, maybe this was a mistake, maybe...maybe....Cerulean ran a hand through her pitch black hair and sighed. When she'd presented her desire to leave the farm to her parents, they hadn't really gone for the idea. They tried to persuade her to stay. When it was apparent to them that she wasn't going to be budged from her decision her father asked her to wait until he could teach her how to defend herself sufficiently.
So now, she was walking on a forest path towards the next town. She drew up short at the odd sound and then the flash of light up ahead. The animals were in a panic and a family of deer ran past her, barely paying her any mind. Cerulean stayed frozen and waited for everything to settle down before she ventured forward slowly. This was probably a dumb idea....a really, really dumb idea....She moved faster and found....nothing.
She frowned in disappointment before she heard a snapping of twigs. She whipped her head around, sounded like someone walking, very loudly through the forest. Pressing her lips together she proceeded, her steps sure and quiet on the forest floor.
They were looking at him again. Good!
Ren grinned and downed the last half pint of his beer and slammed the mug down on the bar top in a contented way. He belched, deliberately loudly, and scratched at his bald head. More stares, and a few mumbles. Now he was getting somewhere.
He consciously brushed at his gaudy clothing - a wildly pink sleeveless tunic; a broad belt studded with cheap-looking glass beads; loose baggy pants of several patched colors tucked into high brown boots that showed considerable wear; and a rather large hat hanging on his back, its leather cord strung around his neck. His build was muscly but somehow gangly, and his face was weather worn. His eyes looked slightly widened, so he seemed permanently surprised. He grinned somewhat manically quite often, with large straight teeth. His hands were large and strong-looking.
After the barmaid refilled his beer mug somewhat reluctantly, he raised it up and toasted the room. "To the Red Dragon's ale! And to all of you, though I know you not! And perhaps soon I will know a few of you better! Friends are made in the unlikeliest of places, they say, and this seems a somewhat likelier place than most! Though if you keep glaring at me, those chances might be a bit less. I mean no harm, and I'm not drunk, I'm just obnoxious! And possibly a little bit crazy! Cheers!" he said loudly, and took the mug to his lips to drink.
In the clearing, he felt a presence watching him but disregarded it. Probably some curious woodland creature. The man emerged from the treeline of the forest to see a town very close by. He then noticed a person looking his way. Looking down at his, for this time period, gaudy attire, he felt a bit embarrassed. Pushing aside his hesitation he started walking toward this person, uttering a greeting along he way. "!^*+ <>|';% $~," he said in a cheery manner, not even taking into consideration the possibility of a language barrier.
The first glimpse of him was the strangest. Broad shoulders definitely identified him as a man. He was disappearing from view so she hurried but was still cautious. He was headed the same way she was....by a different route, however--she'd been using the walking path, he had cut through the woods. He must have broken out of the treeline again because she couldn't hear him crunching through it anymore. What she did hear made her pull up short. What had he just said?
White ears perked up as he heard the sounds of someone coming to the edge of the woods... And there! A man in strange garb stepped out, soon watching him look down to himself. Head tilting, he took a puff from his Kiseru and the smoke that came out danced around his head. And, look! Now the stranger was approaching him. He heard him say something, and recognized neither the accent nor the language.
The fox slowly stood, appearing to only be around 5'5" with his sandals on, which probably added an extra inch or two. His tail shifted a little as he examined the seemingly cheery man.
"Yer gonna have t' speak up, or try somethin' else... I can't understand ya." Though he wasn't sure the other could understand him, either, he thought for a few moments.
Taking the time to empty out his pipe, he ground the ash into the dirt with the heel of his sandal, and pulled out a bag to restock the pipe. Giving a small smile to the other foreigner, he gave a snap of his fingers and a spark reacted, lighting the pure tobacco. A few puffs and some fiddling with it, and he was smoking away again.
"Do ya say anythin' else?" His own accent marked him moreso as a foreigner of the area.
The realization that the language of his time period was not the vernacular of this era hit him when the person he was approaching, whose appearance was mingled with some animal (though he could not yet determine which), responded in another language.
Stopping his advance for a moment, he carefully rolled the stranger's response over in his mind. After only a few seconds, he thought Oh boy, I'm rusty on this language all right. I'm so glad I chose to take the Dead Languages instead of Alien Languages in school.
He resumed his approach and slowly formed his words, "helO, mI nAm iz Zarin!" By the time he had finished speaking, Zarin was halfway to the man. He could only hope his deliberate pronunciation was accurate.
She was so startled by the next words that she placed her foot wrong. What followed was a feat of clumsiness she was glad wasn't seen in its entirety. It resulted in her falling out of the cover of trees and into the view of the two men. She looked up at him, blue eyes large with surprise, cheeks flushed, twigs and leaves caught in her hair. She blinked at the two men and did a double take on both, one had the most alien looking clothes she had ever laid eyes upon and the other had a tail! A very soft looking tail, at that.
The fox blinked at the stranger's reactions, working at his pipe and causing smoke to collect around him in a sort of shroud. Fox faces and bodies swirled within it, tricks of the eye more than anything. The strange man's next set of words caused his ears to lift again, and the slits of his eyes to widen and show one violet and one icy blue.
"Ah..." Was the only response he could fathom for a moment. He then took a second, and added, "Ya got it right, but... Maybe you should work on it a bit." Forgetting his manners only but a second, and then getting distracted by the young lady falling out of the trees (Oh so gracefully), he examined her for a moment.
"I'm Zhulim, but ya can call me Zh, if ya want. Might be... Easier, ya know?"
*creativity muscle is shot* Sorry about the short post this time.
~~~~~~~~

Because he was understood by Zhulim, Zarin's expression broke into a bit of a smile. "Thank you, Zhulim," Zarin said in a genuine pleasant tone. Now that he was closer, Zhulim's animal characteristics appeared to be fox-based.

The sound of loud rustling came from the forest from which he had just emerged. Zarin turned around to see a girl with blue hair eying the men before her.

Set away from the town, far enough away so that if anything exploded, nothing else would be damaged....again. The man who lived there was widely shunned by the town folks, seen as mad and dangerous. There were dozens of rumours floating around about him. That he was insane. That he practised dark magic. That he made creatures out of bit of others. There was even one told to naughty children that he would eat them in the middle of the night if they didn't behave. The one about the children was false, but there was no need for the town to know that..

He had spent the better part of the morning in his observatory on the roof of his tower. It had been the birds that had made him start checking the forest, looking for what had spooked them. He had eventually located several points of light floating in circles. He followed them through his telescope, watching as the collected in a central area in the forest several miles away. And watched as a man fell out of them. It was nowhere near the most fantastical thing that he had seen, but that didn't stop his face from forming into a manic grin.

Looking at the posts above his own, he decided that he would need only a staff and a small knife of silver. And an apple for the girl wouldn't hurt. Grabbing the things as he moved quickly down his tower and out the door.

"Hey now, no need for pushing! I told you, I'm not drunk, I'm just friendly - oof!" Ren landed on the dirt outside the tavern in a heap. He hadn't exactly been thrown, but if the two guys who had bustled him out the door could have lifted him, they probably would have. They sneered at him, and some laughter could be heard behind them, until the door swung shut.

Ren picked himself up slowly, brushing the dust off his clothing meticulously, and checking for all his belongings. Then he burst into laughter. "Hahahahaha! What jesters! At least they got a laugh. Laughter is good for the soul! If I have done them a service in that manner today, then so be it! And they let me finish my meal and my drink too, considerate fellows. Onward, to new adventures!"

Grinning carelessly, he strode off towards the gate.
