That certainly could have gone a little better. Shun felt that he should have expected some trouble, but he had still been caught by surprise. In any case, he managed to deliver what he needed to, and for now it seemed like he was out of the fire. A few had tried to steal the package to one of his father's associates who happened to be passing by in town, so he had been roughed up some.

Letting out a breath, he tried to keep up a pretty quick pace, jumping over a trashcan as he made his way out of the alley. His landing was sloppier than it should have been. Gritting his teeth as some pain shot up his side for that, he just pressed on. It was still faster than running around it.

Coming up to some stairs ahead, he tried to gauge if he'd be able to jump down the steps. Or even use the railing. Seeing how he wasn't quite at 100%, the latter seemed more ideal. A little slower than just jumping, but better than going down the steps normally.

It seemed like fate.

Riyo had been exploring the usefulness of her new form on the streets, squeezing in here and climbing there. The rooftops were surprisingly fun to get to... And on this particular night, they would appear to be...

Deadly.

A familiar scent struck the small, black feline's nose. Immediately her head jerked up as her blazing red eyes started searching the area. Well luck be damned. It was good old backstabbing leave you for dead kill you off easily Shun. And wait... Was that... An injury?

Now, prior to the little incident in the snow, Riyo would've just let him go. It would've irked her to see him, but otherwise his presence would've gone undisturbed. However, this time was very different. The cat's ears fell back against its head as her paws carried her in silence. Heading for the stairs? She'd help with that.

It had to be timed just right. Just perfectly so that she may catch his foot at the right angle. The midnight shade of her coat made her hard to see in this light. Just as Shun made his step towards the decent, a black cat darted up towards the leg he had in mid air and let out a loud yowl, in case the force wasn't enough, perhaps startling him would be.

Shun was watching the area ahead as well as glancing back now and then to make sure he didn't have anyone right on his tail. He wasn't watching the ground too carefully. Between that and the darkness of the area, he didn't see the cat run out before him, catching his foot as he started to jump towards the rail in the middle of the stair set. Not expecting that, he didn't really have much time to try and fix his trajectory as he tripped. As a result, his torso hit the railing before he bounced off and tumbled the rest of the way down the stairs.

After the initial hit, he was able to tuck in a little to avoid doing something like.. snap his neck, but he couldn't do much more than that.

Once on the ground at the bottom of the steps, he groaned, dazed from both the fall and from the pain shooting through him. There were some patches of blood on both the steps and on the ground where he was, indicating that he was probably bleeding somewhere. Chances were that it was the little injury he had before his fall.

"The hell.." he murmured while trying to collect his senses. The reaper didn't know what hit him.

A smirk crossed the feline's face as she listened to the seemingly infinite amount of dings as the reaper fell down the stairs, peering over the ledge to look at him. There was an initial twinge of guilt from hurting someone Mitsu dearly cared about, but it faded as her mind once again sailed back to being left to die in the snow.

But this. This payback wasn't sweet enough. Not yet. It took her a moment to climb down from the other side of the building, but while out of sight, she transformed back into her humanoid form and finally approached. Slow steps made their way up to the downed reaper, a sullen look on her face. She stood over him with that trademark frigid glare practically staring into his soul.

"If you wish, I can easily finish you off." The echoed words leaked out of her mouth like acid, hands seeking warmth in her pockets.

Seeing and hearing someone approach, Shun quickly looked to see who it was. To his surprise, it was Riyo. Quite frankly, he wasn't sure if this was better or worse than the others. For the moment, his eyes narrowed as she threw a comment at him that he had said to her.

"If you think you can do it, go ahead. It'd be a quick way to get back to the school," he hissed.

Her words irritated him, but apparently it didn't bother him as much as it did to her. Letting out a breath, he placed a hand at his side before checking it. He had a cut there and it seemed that it opened up some more from his fall. With a wince, he started to roll over so he could try to get back up. Right now, his movements were pretty sluggish, however.

If she thought she could do it... Sure she could. It wouldn't take much. One good blow to the head or a sharp object through the heart would end him pretty quickly, but what fun would that be?

Yes, she had thought the word 'fun' in this grim situation. Riyo hated people. It was a fact, but it took much more than hate to cause such a sadistic reaction. It took disgust. "You're right Shun. I can't do that." A smile crept up the feline's lips, her tail swaying behind her as she had a seat on one of the higher stairs.

"That would be merciful. And frankly, I don't believe you deserve mercy at this moment." Resting her chin on the hand now propped up on her knee, she stared contently at the fallen reaper. "But a simple fall couldn't have put you in this condition, huh? Which makes me wonder just what you were running from."

Shun didn't expect Riyo to do anything. He didn't think he had it in her. Quite frankly, he hadn't even thought about the whole mercy deal. Hissing through his teeth as he got up to his knees at the very least, he looked up towards the feline demon, sneering at her.

"You wouldn't be the first to think that," he uttered. He picked up on the fact that she was taking pleasure in seeing him down, and that pissed him off a bit. Regardless, he was doing what he could to mask how injured he was. It was impossible to not show any signs of pain, but he made due.

"And my business is my own."

"Yeah? And you're not the first to leave me up s**t creek without a paddle, but for some reason, you're one of the worst." While she hadn't liked Shun, there had still been some small twinge of trust before the Christmastival incident. A feeling that if s**t happened, they would at least have some common decency to throw the other a small bone.

"Of course you're not going to tell me. I don't expect anything of you." She stated in a matter-of-fact tone and stood as he managed to get to his knees. "But Mitsu does." Glancing to each side, her slitted eyes finally rested back on the boil. "Gee. She's not here, is she? And you two are tight as glue so I really have to wonder why you're running across the rooftops at night as if trying to avoid being seen." Riyo was insinuating something. It probably wouldn't be the only thing she insinuated tonight, either.

Remaining crouched for now, Shun glanced past Riyo for any signs of movement and caught none. He still had some time.

"Oh, so you weren't over-acting back there?" he said flatly. Yes, he still thought that she hadn't really been hurt all that badly in the snow there. Did he regret it? No, not really. It was too late to do anything about that and there was little point for him to dwell on it.

"Also, this has nothing to do with Mitsu," he added lowly while placing a hand at his side. It felt like he was still bleeding, so he applied pressure to the cut for the time being.

He thought she was a drama queen, didn't he? What a douche. "Look. I don't try to pretend like I'm some shining beacon of light for all to follow. Cards on the table? I'm a b***h! I'm not nice and I have mighty good reasons for it." None of which she planned to disclose, of course. "But I'm not a ******** pushover." Mentally, at least. Physically was something she was working on, and Riyo had made a lot of progress in that respect. "And I don't like to be garnished in attention." Consciously.

But it seemed that mentioning Mitsu hit a nerve. "It doesn't? Then why are you so defensive about it?" Her ears practically looked like horns in the low light, the way they curled in delight. "How terrible of a person are you really? Sweet little ghoulfriend wrapped around your finger, probably with no idea where you are or what you're doing. You could practically get away with murder, couldn't you?" So to speak. Riyo didn't consider Mitsu stupid, but naive.

Scoffing, the feline shook her head as she started to pace around the reaper. The demoness wasn't really thinking about how her actions would affect other people. Only that it would affect Shun in a hopefully negative way. That was her problem. Being so impulsive with situations like this. "Such is a man. When it comes down to the core, you're really only looking out for yourself, aren't you?" Not that she wasn't, but it upset her that couples went through what she could only assume was a ruse. Convincing one another of their devotion for the sake of fulfilling their own needs.

"Well then now I know," Shun said in a rather matter of fact tone. Whether or not he believed it was probably the real question. Though, his brief look of neutrality darkened as Riyo brought Mitsu back into the picture. She was making a lot of assumptions here, though some of them could be true he supposed.

"I've told her many a time that I'm not a very good guy. It still baffles me sometimes how she can stick by," he admitted. It wasn't something he cared to hide or even try to for that matter. It was just a simple fact to him; one that probably couldn't be used against him.

While Riyo drew closer, pacing around him like a lioness getting ready to pounce, his eyes narrowed. He watched her carefully, to try and spy any signs of physical hostility.

"But if you truly believe that I don't watch out for her, you're wrong. I think that might be yourself you're talking about there."

The Reaper recalled a few of the things she had said in the past. How she didn't need others and whatnot. It was probably safe to say that she definitely looked out for herself more than anything.

The feline's eyes narrowed as Shun continued to try and turn the situation back on her. He was right, of course. She was selfish. The reason why she so denied friendship was because she feared being trampled on and left to rot. This little game of manipulation wasn't working very well. At least, not as well as it had on a younger her.

"I'm... Trying..." She started to hiss, but immediately dropped it. "And so what if I'm like that? I'm not trying to pretend I'm not. Everyone knows I'm self-centered, and yet they still pester me." Now who was on trial?

"But I still... Have the decency to help somebody when I know they need it." Her eyes looked to the ground as she stopped pacing, facing away from the reaper. "Perhaps not when they ask for it... But when you can see they need it." She hadn't always. The ghoul supposed it was a new habit... Or making up for all the times she'd missed being able to do such.

Shun raised an eyebrow as Riyo began to talk. But she quickly shifted gears there. Curious.

"And if I didn't see that need? As far as I was concerned you were still able to get up and follow. Obviously that did not happen so perhaps I gauged wrong," he shrugged, "If that is what this is all about then I will say this at the very least. Had there been Hunters involved, or a more immediate threat, things would have gone a little differently. I don't expect you to drop your grudge you've picked up, however."

He realized this likely had something to do with his comment that day as well. But offering a swift death would have transported her to the infirmary quickly, as well as heal her wounds to an extent. Letting out a breath, he started to stand up once more, grimacing as the movement tugged at his side.

"What exactly is it you want?"
PostPosted: Tue Jan 03, 2012 10:03 am

Ah, it looked like they'd made some (not a lot, but some) progress.

Now, this was the part where Riyo figured she'd leave him. Just... Walk right on by and let him find his own way back to school...

But something about that thought bothered her. Maybe it was imagining Mitsu's disappointed face, or Hel's disgusted one. Maybe Mot's subtle frown on the situation... Or Xiu's hurt.

Turning back to Shun, she looked down at him and swiftly...

Offered a hand. "A simple sorry would suffice."

That response came as a surprise to him. And as a result, Shun regarded Riyo a little warily as she offered a hand out. He gave her a look as if saying 'that's it?'

There was a little bit of silence as he stared at both her and her hand before he hesitantly took it.

"I apologize," he said quietly. Soon after he spoke up, he heard the clang of what sounded like a trashcan getting knocked over or something like that.
