Hel marched up the Hel towards the demon dorms, a wrapped packaged tucked underneath her arm and a determined expression on her face.
Sure, she and Riyo didn’t part on exactly the most favorable terms the last time they had the pleasure of each other’s company…but that was the funny thing about them. Hel could get angry and pissed off at the cat demoness all she wanted, but that didn’t stop her from possibly ten minutes later feeling encouraged by said ghoul and uplifted. So thus once Christmastival rolled around, it went without debate that she’d get the bakeneko a gift! Speaking of Christmastival, it was a few days before, and while Hel could have waited until the day of, she had made some plans with Mot already. Not like it really mattered, a Christmastival present was a Christmastival present!
Her steel plated boots clinked as she made her way inside, up the stairs, and then down the hall until she stood in front of a ridiculously polished door. Raising a fist, the reaper knocked, and then waited.

Christmastival? Bah, humbug! Holidays always escaped the demoness. Riyo had always told herself it was because she was a busy ghoul and frankly the holidays didn't interest her... But the truth was that she'd never had anyone to celebrate them with.
Silently the feline sat at her desk, not doing paperwork as usual, but scribbling boredly on a blank piece of paper. Little by little, she was starting to realize how much she hated it, but she still hadn't figured a way out.
The sound of clinking slowly approaching made Riyo's ears twitch, though the realization of what it was didn't strike her until the bellowing knock on the door made her jump.
Oh no.
Hel was here.
... After what happened, she could pretend she wasn't there... But knowing the valkyrie, she'd probably break down her door just to make sure.
It wasn't worth it.
Reluctant steps headed towards the door, which slowly creaked open as the footsteps stopped. Red eyes peered out into the hall, staring holes into the reaper. "What?" She asked quietly. "Want to headbutt me over a frozen beverage again?"

Riyo would be greeted by a wide grin from the reaper, and a wave of her hand, which turned into a fist, playfully, for now.
“Gonna give me a reason to head butt you over a frozen drink?” Hel quipped back cheerfully enough, and shifted her weight from one foot to another. “You should let me in though, I have something for you!” This time, the ghoul waved a dark red package wrapped with a silver bow at Riyo. “I’d rather not give you a gift out in the hall, ya?”

Reason... The nerve Hel had. Riyo was ready to slam the door in the valkyrie's face... Until the words 'something for you' was mentioned. Immediately a brow raised as she stared at the pretty wrapped box, an expression of confusion slowly developing.
"... Okay." Stepping aside, the door swung open, and the feline's expression hadn't changed. "Did you borrow something from me or what?" That didn't really explain the brightly wrapped package, but still. What was she missing?

The demoness could have slammed the door in Hel’s face…but she knew deep down it wouldn’t make the valkyrie go away.
Hel was still grinning as the door swung open, and she marched into Riyo’s room, spinning on her heel once she was in. “…What? Borrow something from you? No, I did not!” Hel chuckled, looking down at the present. “This is a gift from me to you! You know, for Christmastival!” The reaper waved the package back and forth a bit before finally holding it out to the cat ghoul.

... Christmastival? Riyo's expression went blank as she reached into her pocket and pulled out her skellephone to look at the date. "Oh... I didn't realize it was that time of year." She hadn't been out to the maul because she tended to avoid it... But that did explain the weird things people were wearing in town.
Blinking, Riyo gently took the parcel into her hands, carefully examining the shiny package. "... W-what do I do with it?" Her eyes shot up to Hel in confusion. Had the ghoul ever opened a present? Yes. Was it from when she was too young to remember?
... Maybe.

Hel just stared at Riyo like she was a rockstar from another planet. That meant oddly and with confusion. Riyo suddenly seemed off her game at all of this talk about Christmastival, and even more peculiar was how she treated the gift. At her question, Hel gave an amused snort. “…W..what do you do with it?” She echoed. “Well, you open it, of course! It’s a present for you! Tear off the paper and see what is inside.”
The reaper rested her hands on her hips now as she waited. Once Riyo unwrapped the paper, she’d find a simple cardboard box…that would also need to be opened, because the present was inside that.

Riyo knew the look Hel gave her meant she was missing out on some kind of common knowledge, which made the feline feel embarrassed. She was smart, after all. And how could someone so smart miss out on something so simple?
"Oh, uh. I knew that. I was just... Making sure!" A nervous laugh and smile followed her obviously forced assurance as she stared at Hel, slowly looking back down at the package. With a sigh, the demon backed up into her chair and had a seat.
Half of her wondered if this was some elaborate prank, and just what would spring out once she got done unwrapping the gift. A clawed finger slid through the decorative paper like butter, making oddly precise cuts around the box. Oh, it was tedious just watching her.
Finally, the cardboard box was revealed, which left the ghoul slightly confused and worried. Riyo braced herself and opened the folds, leaning her head back in case something sprung out at her.

“ Uh huh.” Hel was totally convinced. While she was rather amused that Riyo wasn’t her usual confident self, she wasn’t going to rub it in either (too much). The reaper moved closed once Riyo sat down, rocking on the balls on her feet as she watched her slice through the paper with precision. Hel snorted with amusement again once the demoness seemed hesitant about opening the cardboard box. “ Riyo.” She admonished. “ It’s just a box! Open it already, sheesh! What are you, a scaredy cat?” Hel was grinning now, and swiped her thumb across her nose. Inside the box, Riyo would find this:

"I'm not a scaredy cat!" Riyo immediately retorted and opened the box with a grunt. Her expression immediately softened when she saw what was inside, however.
Careful fingers reached in and scooped out the very Riyo-esque bag to look it over. It was... Perfect.
It seemed like the cat ghoul was stunned into silence for a few moments as she examined her gift. "I.. I don't understand." She started, finally looking up at Hel. "Why... Would you give me something so nice?" All she had really done to Hel was punch her face and insult her, and that was on a good day. "I can't accept this... I mean... I didn't get you anything." The ghoul's ears fell back in shame at the admittance. She hadn't even thought about getting the valkyrie anything.

The reaper just chuckled, and then tilted her head as she rocked on her the balls of her feet once more.
She grinned widely once Riyo finally opened the cardboard box. “Don’t understand what?” Hel echoed. “Oh…you are my friend!” Her grinned widened, touching her eyes. “And it is Christmastival! I give presents to my friends to show that I appreciate them, ya?” The ghoul waved a dismissive hand at the bakeneko. “This season is about giving, not receiving, besides, I do not want anything, anyways ~ !”

Riyo's clawed fingers traced idly around the shape of the cat head on the bag as Hel spoke, the reapers words not seeming to make much progress in the way of making the feline feel better. "Hel. I've got a confession to make..." She started silently, her vision glued to her new bag as if memorizing every stitch. "This is probably the first real gift anyone has given me..." It was a little embarrassing to admit, and honestly the fact that Hel did it so flawlessly made it worse.
These exchanges seemed so alien to the demoness. "Giving something without expecting anything in return... I don't really understand it. My whole life, people have been telling me nothing is free, and there's always an angle to everything." But... For once, she was almost positive there was no angle to this. It was simply... A gift.
What had she done to deserve something like this? She was always so cold when Hel always held her arms open. Quick to throw a punch when all the other ghoul wanted was a cheerful exchange. She felt guilty, but at the same time, there was an overwhelming feeling of gratitude. "Thank you, Hel." For once, there was no sarcasm to the bakeneko's voice, and no hidden meaning to her words. It was as sincere as the ghoul could be.

Maybe Hel looked a little surprised at Riyo’s confession…but at the same time too, she wasn’t all that surprised. Hel just kept on grinning. “Well, glad to be your first then!” Hurr hurr. She had done a pretty good job if she said so herself.
For once, the reaper just quietly listened to the bakeneko, and after a moment nodded her head. “I like giving things!” Hel announced. “It makes me feel good to do so…I think…it makes other beings I give them too happy…and that makes me happy.” The ghoul rubbed her nose. “…I made Mot a new hat…that…that made him really happy.” She smiled fondly at the memory; she had made the poor boil cry. Pulling herself away from her thoughts, she looked back at Riyo, blinking at the sincere and grateful few words she uttered. “…You are most welcome, Riyo.” She returned. “Happy Christmastival!”
Though it was a bit early, who cared?

It made he happy to give? What a thought. It made Riyo briefly wonder if she'd feel the same way. "... Happy Christmastival, Hel." The ghoul followed up quietly, her mind already contemplating what to get the valkyrie in return.

Welp…that was all Hel had for Riyo at the moment, luckily or unluckily for her. With the holiday itself right around the corner, the reaper still had a lot she needed to get done. The ghoul gave a short wave. “I will be off then, friend, and you can go back to whatever it was…” She glanced at her desk. “…Whatever it was you were doing, heh.”
She made no move to leave just yet though, incase Riyo wanted to say something else. “You have a good day, ya?”
