Profile Tips and Requirements

Just a little more advice on making a profile that will get accepted. One thing that we feel separates Rosentale from a lot of the academy guilds out there is our focus on encouraging three dimensional characters that are well developed and thought out. Basically, we encourage strong characters and good character building. This helps us keep up the quality of the RP and will ensure it lasts longer!

The two most common issues we see are characters being overpowered and characters having invalid flaws. As such, we decided to include a section with a list of things to avoid. Most of this stuff should be common sense for any RP but it's easy to forget details or get a little overzealous.

POWERS:

1. We do not allow any abilities that permit the controlling of other characters. No puppeting, controlling, auto-seducing or anything like that. Some types of hypnotic type abilities might be acceptable IF they have a suitable limitation and way for the victim to avoid it. But if your power is an auto-hit (which means that the other character wouldn't be able to get away from it or avoid it easily) then it is not allowed. This includes abilities that require eye contact since that still counts as an auto-hit.

2. We do not allow any abilities that involve reading minds, memories or auras. Anything that would let you know another character's secrets or whether they are good or bad is instantly out. Some empathic abilities are allowed provided they have the right limitations that prevent your character from instantly knowing things they shouldn't know. These powers are too often abused and are just a headache when not RPed correctly so to make things fair for everyone, we do not allow them.

3. No one is allowed to have complete control/mastery of any single element (fire, earth, air, water, lightning, light, shadow, etc). If you have an elementalist be sure sure explicitly state what they can do with their element. Logic and proper limitations should apply.

4. No one is allowed to have control over all four elements. This is just too strong an ability and undermines other element users. So pick one or two and be satisfied with that.

5. ALWAYS be specific with your character's powers. This will save us the time of asking you to clarify their abilities and limitations. Don't just say 'can control fire'--say something like 'can create small fireballs and throw them over a short distance' or something like that.

6. Always define your character's power limits. Unless a magic ability is fairly weak there should be built in limitations and drawbacks. This can include proximity, duration, magnitude or even physical drawbacks to using the power (for instance, an ability where overuse causes the person to slowly damage their own body). Limitations and drawbacks should be readily seen in the RP when the power is being used. The stronger the ability, the more significant the limitations and drawbacks to using it should be.

7. Getting tired is NOT a valid 'limitation' to a power. Everyone gets tired when they exert themselves. This is completely normal and should be expected. It is not a a good balance for a strong ability and if it's the only limitation or drawback you post, we're going to ask you to add in something less obvious and more likely to serve as a counterbalance.


FLAWS:

As this seems to be a tough one for a lot of people, I'm going to list some quick tips and then a list of specific 'flaws' that tend to pop up again and again, that we do not accept.

1. A flaw is not a trait that makes your character cute, attractive, sexy, badass, etc. It is a negative aspect to their personality, or a negative trait or habit that will make it difficult, at times, to interact with other characters. Avoid saying "Sometimes ______." Everyone sometimes lies, or sometimes gets angry or sometimes is clumsy. Flaws are pervasive so they should be impacting your character MOST of the time. Not just sometimes.

2. Flaws are a part of your character--not something just tacked on. They should make sense with the rest of the personality and background. You can't have someone who is both shy and outgoing/friendly. You can't have someone who is calm and has anger issues. If your character has difficulty trusting others, this should be reflected in the rest of their personality and background.

3. Flaws are not racial traits or power limitations. Vampires drink blood. This is a trait of the species--it's not a flaw. Don't list things like this as a flaw. They do not count. By the same token, limitations to your character's powers don't count as flaws and should be listed in the ability section. NOTE: These things can all be added as extra information but they won't count as flaw.

4. Inability to do some irrelevant task (cooking, cleaning, dancing, sports) is not a flaw. Flaws should be things that are relevant to the RP so if it's an inability to do something that they're never going to have the opportunity to do anyway, that doesn't count. Inability to do a critical task (like reading) can be considered a flaw. NOTE: You can add things like this as extra information. They just don't count as flaws.

5. Fears and disabilities are most likely not going to be a flaw. This is something you will need to explain and make a case for. But in most cases 'fear of the dark,' 'dyslexia,' 'depression' and the like are not going to be flaws in and of themselves. If there is a specific behavior that is the result of a disability or fear, that is more likely to be accepted as a flaw. For instance 'so afraid of the dark they never sleep, which makes them really, really cranky' or 'very clingy due to abandonment issues.' NOTE: You can add these as extra information. They just don't count as flaws.


6. Take the time to list out each flaw and explain the ones that need it. If you make a good case for a flaw by explaining how it's bad and what it makes them do, you're more likely to get that flaw accepted, even if it's one we might not normally accept. 'Perfectionism' is a flaw we tend to try to get people to avoid but if you said something like 'He's such a perfectionist that he fixates on trivial details and will spend hours harping on things that don't even matter, just to ensure they're absolutely perfect. He also completely flips out over minor things just because they're not perfect.' then we would probably accept that since it shows you know how this flaw works and will work it into your character.

Flaws to avoid:

- clumsy
- naive
- too pretty (seriously...just don't)
- too nice (or generous, caring, protective, etc.)
- shy
- can't dance, cook, sew, sing, clean (ect)
- perfectionist
- trust issues
- most disabilities
- trivial physical flaws like small scars or messy hair--things that don't really affect their appearance
- trust issues
- fetishes
- being nerdy/geeky/brainy
- weird
- substance abuse
- over protective
- getting tired/sleepy

Appearance description: Her height is 4' 11" so she's pretty short.

Personality: She's pretty apathetic. Vivian never stresses out about anything and always has a mellow personality. She is always found eating something. She is distant and emotionless. Her personality is also very arrogant since her laziness causes her to use anything that conveniences her.

Bio: When she was thirteen, she tried to do a spell that was too advanced for her and she ended up cursing herself. She doesn't know the details of her own curse, but she knows that it keeps her in her thirteen year old body and gave her immortal life and eternal youth. She can still be killed by battle, she just won't die of age. In exchange, her emotions were altered by the curse and she has trouble feeling her own feelings. She's searching for something that could make her feel happy since she forgot how it felt to be happy.

Skills and Abilities: She specializes with potions and magic circles.

Personality: She's playful and usually doesn't seem busy at all. Mafuyu is generally very nice and friendly and doesn't act very much like a headmistress. She always seems like she's playing around but she somehow gets her work done. She usually keeps her mask off, but carries it around with her. When she puts her mask on, her personality does a flip and she becomes strict and overbearing. She usually puts on the mask whenever she has to deal with the serious problem students.

Bio: Her ancestors founded the Rosentale Academy and she is just continuing her family tradition. She loves the school and wants to make it flourish like the ancestors before her. She was brought up traditionally with her older brother unlike her younger siblings so she still follows traditions while her younger siblings ran off to live modern youkai lives.

Skills and Abilities: She can transform into a gigantic white fox like what her mask suggests. She is able to control her beast form fairly well, but if she is in battle too long, she'll start to rampage and attack anyone. When she's not a gigantic white fox, she can use fire magic and some shape-shifting magic.
