Hey there. I am Scottish (currently living in Glasgow). Basically, I want some idea of peoples views of Scotland's culture and history. I know just about everyone here is very intelligent and will know at least something about Scottish culture.

What kind of food do you Scots eat? surprised

Sorry! Been away for some time because my dining room is being repainted.
As to food, many Scots (unfortunately) eat unhealthily. There are many reasons for this, but I don't have time to b***h at the moment.
TRADITIONAL SCOTTISH FOODS AND DRINKS
Haggis - Minced sheep heart and lungs stuffed into a sheeps stomach and steamed.
Bannocks - Basically oatcakes, but regional varieties with different things added to them exist all over the country.
Tablet - Sugar, butter and milk (I think) mixed together. Like fudge, but much more sugary.
Arbroath Smokie - Wood smoked haddock. Originated (strangely) in Arbroath.
Black Bun - Usually eaten at Hogmany. Rich fruity pudding, black in colour.
Porridge - Famous the world over!
Whisky - Distilled water and grains. Nicknamed the 'Water of Life' by Scottish ancestors. Distilleries exist all over the Highlands and whisky production forms a great portion of employment away from the cities.
Hot Toddy - Sugar and heather honey in warm water. Good for getting off to sleep.

Um, if your talking about Burns Night, that is the 26th of January I think.
And the date commemorates his birthday and is a celebration of his works and his life.

For most of the time, what everyone listens to - rock, classical, punk, rap, dance etc, but we have our own form of music which is connected strongly to our Celtic origins. We have ceilidh music for festivities and social occaisons, and Scottish folk music for everyday listening.
Common instruments are - the Highland Bagpipes, the Bodrum, violins, pianos, and more recently, keyboards and guitars have been introduced into Scottish folk music.

Lemmie Eccentric Iconoclast I know someone who's obsessed with Scotland. Personally, I love the music. As well you should! I play too much of it on my flute. I could play it for hours, and sometimes I do. I know about 30 Scottish songs. 3nodding
