It took some days before Jude felt ready to go look into some sort of assistance. It wasn't that Yom was ineffective with any sort of assistance in healing she could provide via FEAR it was just that Jude was impatient and also tired of trying to find ways to keep his broken fingers elevated to a proper point. The wound on his back that Caelius had so graciously given him was a lot better but it still couldn't withstand much touching it even bandages and gauze were a pain to change with the assistance of others but at least he could handle that a lot better then a pair of broken digits.

Jude wandered down seeking the infirmary again this time to seek out someone that seemed to have a bit more experience.

As he entered the building he paused a bit looking more than a little lost and out of his element all of the sudden. Who should he go to? Then again they all seem so busy.

{Just assk sssomeone,} Yom encouraged.

Jude's brow furrowed as he approached the first not busy person he could find, "Hey, excuse me. I was wondering if I could get some help...?"
PostPosted: Thu Dec 29, 2011 11:37 pm

The first person to hear Jude's request happened to be Clarice, who was waiting around the infirmary to see if any guinea pigs happened to be laying around for her convenience. Turning to the trainee she smiled brightly, "I'd love to help you, Jude. Because that's what I do. I help people. With science."

Notice she doesn't mention anything about medical expertise.

He was brave, dumb, or clueless.

Maybe a mixture because if he knew better he'd have just turned around and left after that instead he just stood there and offered an uncertain smile, "Oh? Well, I was wondering if I could get someone to look at this," he held up the hand that had the finger casts on it to keep it healing properly.

"See...I don't think I got the patience to just sit around and wait for it to heal. I don't like being useless," he explained as best as he could, "and if you or someone that isn't busy could help I'd be grateful...?"

Apparently he missed where she didn't mention anything about medical expertise that or he figured they were about the same since medicine used science...Right?

She beamed at him, "Well you came to the right person! I've just finished a new type of bandage that should triple the speed of internal healing." A prototype of course, but that was what testing was for. And being a responsible person, Clarice fully intended to test them out thoroughly. On Jude. "Just step right on into the room on the left and make yourself comfortable."

The room itself was very white, had a two-way mirror, several fire extinguishers, and the only piece of furniture was a metal table at the center. Were those shackles? No need to worry, Jude, volunteers don't have to worry about that sort of thing.

"Oh! That sounds great," he said putting on an awkward smile as he moved to follow Clarice like a blonde little lamb straight into the slaughterhouse. Clarice lady was so nice and helpful taking time out of her schedule for him. This is what it got him when he was nice and friendly to someone! Rewards a plenty.

He entered the room and then looked around it curiously with a bit of a raised eyebrow ignoring the small voice (that wasn't Yom) telling him that he should just turn around and walk right back out as fast as his legs could carry him.

"Interesting set up," he observed rubbing the back of his neck with his good hand and he wandered toward the table. Should he hop onto it like one did with the doctor's exam table?

"Just hop on up!" Following him in, Clarice closed the door and flipped a switch. Outside, a small red light turned on, the sign below it read Testing in Progress. Back in the room, the assistant was opening what looked like a metal box of children's bandages. "Okay, we have a couple different kinds, which did you want to try first?"

She held up several bandages, one featuring Batman, another with Disney Princesses, one shaped like a red crayon, and last but not least, Dora the Explorer.

Clarice smiled warmly at him. Some people would feel reassured by that smile, others would wonder about having to try more than one bandage.

With his good hand he managed to make his way onto the table with minor issues settling himself on the surface he stared at the bandages with interest and then he tilted his head at the phrasing of her question. He did indeed wonder at her phrasing but it was too late to back out as he stared at these rather childish looking bandages before he indicated the Batman one first, "Batman, please?"

He couldn't help but wonder if he was also going to get a sucker for this.

Little did Jude realize that it would be considered cannibalism if he ate a sucker now.

"So...um...is it because they don't stick well or something?" Jude asked with a raised eyebrow. Why else would she ask which he wanted first?

Unwrapping the Batman bandage, she gave the question some consideration. "Possibly. Adhesives can be more tricky than you know." It wasn't really a lie. They really were! Especially when magic was involved. Whole strips of flesh could be lost to overly strong adhesives and runes. Not that she was going to explain this to him. Besides, that sort of thing hadn't happened in years. Well, more like months. Except for that incident last week. But she hadn't taken part in that one, so really it didn't count.

Dismissing that line of thought, she gingerly took Jude's hand and carefully placed the bandage around one of his good fingers. "Alright, tell me if you feel anything unpleasant."

User Image"Yeah. Adhesives can be pretty tricky...One time Dad forced Mom to buy cheap bandaids and they had sucky adhesives on it and never stayed on." Jude said quietly as he let her put the bandage on the good finger and then sat there for a long moment.

....
...

..

Slowly Jude's lips turned upward and he was smiling. Smiling hard and he couldn't stop. He reached up with his good hand and tried to squish his face back to normal. Oh God. Sadly Jude wasn't smiling because he was cured. He was smiling due to a side effect.

"C..Clarice. I can't..call this unpleasant but my face is starting to hurt and..." He wasn't whining as much as showing a lot of concern.

Clarice was taking notes and nodding, "I see. The pain killers will need some adjusting." She smiled back at him, "Don't worry it'll wear off in about an hour. Now let's try...this one." With the practiced speed and efficiency of someone who is used to this sort of situation, the hunter placed wrapped the Dora bandage around another one of the good fingers.

Jude wasn't sure how to feel about this all of the sudden. It was like he was suddenly a guinea pig. Yes, it was slowly starting to dawn on him. What? Jude is allowed to have the occasional slow moment.

He didn't stop her though he probably should have because moments later the finger started to feel really cold. Eventually frost and ice began to form around it and he felt a tremor work along his body and well he looked concerned while smiling somehow.

"This...hurts a lot more than the smiling," Jude said through a slight chatter to his teeth. Was he going to get frostbite? Oh God.

The assistant tsked slightly, and gave him an apologetic smile, "We're trying to do away with the need for ice bags and the like. Its still a bit rough in the execution, but it should be really amazing once we get it right." She gave him a pat on the shoulder, "But don't worry, you won't loose it or anything. It just may be a bit numb for awhile. And um...don't lick it. You're tongue will stick." It had happened before, and while there was no permanent damage, there were still a couple hunters who thought she'd been coming onto them that day.

"Let's try the crayon next, I'm feeling pretty good about this one."

KILLER CRAYOLA

Rolls 1 d4 to determine the bandage's effect!

1: A soft crack echoes through the room, Jude has broken another finger - lose 25 hp
2: The arm turns red and begins to emit steam - lose 15 hp
3: Jude's hair turns red. Hello ginger kid!
4. One broken finger is healed! A soft breeze carries flower petals past the two hunters, and Clarice seems to sparkle slightly as doves fly overhead. Jude begins to actively hallucinate.

"That's a sh-sh-shame," he muttered quietly and was honestly glad he wasn't going to lose the finger though until she said something he wasn't going to lick his finger but now it was tempting but soon all thoughts of licking his finger went out the window as he saw some of his longer strands of hair turn red.

This wasn't the worst outcome or so he hoped. He could live with red hair if he had to. He totally could, "M...My hair isn't going to fall out next, i-i-is it?"

So...Cold. So Red...So...Smiling.

"Oh, wow, that's a really dramatic look for you, Jude. But your hair should fall out from just this." Because the Superman set wasn't ready for testing just yet. "Let's just try this last one, gotta save the best for last you know!" She really did like the princess one, it wasn't quite Hello Kitty, but definitely up there among superior bandage designs.

PRETTY (PAINLFUL) IN PINK

Rolls 1 d4 to determine the bandage's effect!

1: Jude's hair begins to grow, and grow, and grow. The sheer weight of it is painful and make it hard for him to move - lose 25 hp
2: One broken finger is healed! Clarice is the Good Fairy Godmother of the Life Division! Jude spends the day thinking he's a princess.
3: Jude's skin begins to sparkle, it's especially dramatic in the sunlight.
4. One broken finger is healed! Clarice is the Wise Witch of the Life Division who will teach him a valuable lesson. Jude spends the rest of the day thinking he's a frog, looking for a princess to kiss him.

There was a moment of just plain fear when Clarice put the bandage on and his eyes squinted shut for a few seconds and suddenly one of his fingers felt way better!

"Oh Fairy Godmother! Thank you so much! You really do work wonders!" His eyes were wide with amazement even while he still grinned. Oh he wanted to hug her! He wiggled a bit on his perch, "It is a shame that my other finger couldn't be healed as well."

There was a thoughtful and reflecting pause.

Horror-filled eyes and still grinning, "Is my other broken finger cursed? It was that wicked witch Caelius wasn't it?!"

So cruel!
