Character Profile
Note- This profile is going to undergo a lot of changes, please be patient while they take effect. Thanks!

Name: Nagi Shibasaburo (Pronounced Na-jii)

Age: Unknown but in Soul Society standards is quite young for he was only dead for 2 and a half years.

Gender: Male

Skin Color / Race: Pale white Caucasian/ English/ Japanese decent

Physical Description:
User Image
Nagi is tall, slim built and very pale skinned. His right arm is now missing as the result of the final battle with buru. His standard black shinigami uniform is modified to look more like a shinto-priest robe with the slits on the upper arms. His white captain's haori was also modified a bit for it includes a hood like that of a sorcerer. Special accessories include a pair of arm guards and choker that protects him from cuts and minor burns (made from Kevlar). He also wears glasses (later reveals that they are transition lenses that where made specially for him due to his lack of vision in bright lights) but usually hides them while others are around.
There are two tattoos on his face under his eyes and a small pair of wings tattooed on his back that he does not remember getting (it is suggested the the dark lines represent the fact that his nightmares kept him awake and he finally died after falling asleep). Sometimes his right eye will turn black (dilated) while the left stays blue. This state is where he earns his nickname "Two-tone". (This is explained more in the profile)

Zanpaku-to: Name- Tenchi-Kyougai (Creed of the Angels)- Stays in the form as a normal Bamboo Shinai because of the fact that he has no desire to kill. He feels strongly tied to it and gets nervous when it is removed from his grasp. He's good at fighting with it in this form since he'd trained with it for so long.

Shikai:Commands- "Protect" and "Disperse"
When Nagi uses the command "Protect" the weapon transforms into a giant white feather shaped blade used for defense only since his darker half is the spirit that resides in the Zanpaku-to at the time. This form cannot be used unless he is defending somebody(this includes himself).
When Nagi uses the command "Disperse" this is when his Zanpaku-to takes the form as a pair of white feathered wings and a halo of barbed wire appears over his head after spilling his first drop of blood in battle. Each feather being a single blade, he can control them individually as well as fly. Nagi will only use this when his darker half takes over and his urge to kill is present while the lighter side of his soul is now in his Zanpaku-to. This form is used for attacking.
Note- Nagi is starting to learn how to combine these two attributes now that he is starting to understand the spirit inside his weapon. Combined, this weapon and his abilities can be devastating. (This is when he goes "Two-tone".)

Special Zampaku-to Attacks:
Shield Form: Haro-shougeki- (Halo Crash) Uses the shield combined with Nagi’s speed and Tenchi’s spiritual energy with the force of a battering ram, sending his opponents flying.
Attack Form: Sakurifaisu- (Ultimate Sacrifice) The feathers from his wings disperse and wildly slashes at everything within 20 meters of him, including himself. Both Nagi and Tenchi completely use up their spirit energy to use this so it is only needed in desperate situations.

Bankai: Bankai:Haro-kuromeru (black halo) Command: "Repent"- Nagi's wings turn black and tattered while a long whip made of three braided strands of razor wire emerges from the empty hilt. Although this may appear to be not a very big deal to some, the power that Nagi possesses when in this state is somewhat remarkable considering that despite Nagi's kind nature, it is malicious in many ways. When his Bankai is activated, he can dive deep into the heart of his opponent, revealing the enemy's fears, all the evil deeds that have been committed, and hear the screaming and agony of every person they've ever slain, casting the individual into a personal hell. It is as if the enemy is thrown into a terrifying nightmare that is difficult to awaken from. Depending on how much evil is inside the individual's heart, the effects may vary, however, if the enemy has killed many people, then he shall be tortured by many people's crying souls. The more fear that the enemy feels, Tenchi's spiritual energy will increase due to the fact that his main power is fueled by fear. Although this nighmare is just an illusion, it distracts the opponent, giving Nagi the opportunity to lash out and eventually cause the person to bleed to death from the razor wire. Nagi will not activate his Bankai unless he is truly angered and he also has to be two-tone for it to work properly. He may possibly be able to use it, but has not come under the right circumstances for it to become revealed. (image is not complete)

Personality:His blue eyes indicate the "lighter half" for he is always seen with a friendly smile or grin. As a captain, he is extremely calm and laid back due to his belief that kido users should maintain their thoughts and emotions to help them focus better. His thoughts seem to always be focused on what is positive for he has a very optimistic way of looking at things and is a lover of good humor. It is because his belief that there is good in everyone he may be seen as naive to most people, but it is because of that belief that his is very understanding of how other people think. Though he is quick physically and mentally, Nagi is extremely clumsy and wishes to get over it along with his terrible long and short term memory. He also dislikes formality for it makes him nervous and doesn't see it as necessary in most occasions. Since Nagi has only been in the soul society for a short time, he's considered to be quite young amongst the other soul reapers and it doesn't help when he can't remember ever growing up. Despite this, he is mature and prefers calm reasoning over assertive force, but is still shy toward women. He shows no sign of restlessness nor shows any interest in excelling his power without a reasonable cause.
Due to one of his newly discovered pet peeves- Nagi will also automatically tell you how to pronounce his name upon introduction or will correct those who say his name.
[Left hand dominant- Has quicker reflexes and is physically stronger than the right.]

When his eyes go black (dilated pupils) , he appears frightening to some due to the fact that he bares a nonchalant, blank look on his face and doesn’t seem to care about anything because he lacks most emotions. This is the dark half when it comes fourth (usually by force). He may also become cocky and analytical while fighting others and will be most certain to sarcastically point out the faults of others on the intent of making them feel stupid. "Tenchi" is no different than "Nagi" when it comes to defending those he cares for but is more aggressive about it due to the fact that he will find any reason to deny his own supposable, non-existent emotions. Everything that Nagi had supposedly forgotten, Tenchi knows and is therefore the wiser and most experienced of the two. He often gives Nagi advice whenever he's confused.
[Right hand dominant- Can control spirit energy as well as perform kidos better and more accurately.]

Extra:

User Image

Abilities:
Shun-po- Arrived with the ability though was very clumsy. Mastered it during his membership in 2nd division.
Utsusemi - The ability to shun-po and leave behind an afterimage.
Instant war cry- A technique that combines hand to hand fighting with kido. Learned with Yuki.
Has very good vision in the dark, but unfortunately has poorer vision in the light. Nagi also has a high pain tolerance and will fight until his body wont let him anymore. His desire to protect and sensing his opponent's fear (as Tenchi) increases this ability.

Nagi is book smart in all forms of Kido though he prefers not to use some of the higher level hados due to their harmful power. Though Nagi is usually left handed, his right serves better when it comes to channeling and controlling spirit energy. Because of his ability to focus as “two-tone” he can control and summon large amounts of spirit energy at one time.

Best Performed Kidos:
Mirror Door (Kyōmon) — It creates a glass-like barrier which is difficult to break from the outside, but quite simple to break from the inside. (Nagi enjoys this one because his opponent cant see it- usually funny results)
White Lightning (Byakurai) — Fires a concentrated bolt of lightning from the caster's forefinger. (The only Hado Nagi prefers to use)
White Crawl (Hakufuku)- Renders a target unconscious. (has trouble with this one and will sometimes accidentally do it to himself. He mentally performs this spell by looking into the eyes of his opponent. )
Six Rods Prison of Light (Rikujōkōrō) — Summons six thin, but wide, beams of light that slam into a target's midsection, holding them in place. (Nagi will use this one if he truly deems his opponent as a threat.)
81. Splitting Void (danku) — Creates an energy barrier in the form of a rectangular wall. According to Byakuya, it is capable of stopping destructive spells up to #89.

History:

Before he came to know Tenchi personally, Nagi used to get small flashbacks that make him zone out from time to time. Finally after a long hard road, he and the zanpaku-to are finally able to communicate. Though the two still don't get along due to the fact that their methods and beliefs are completely opposite, they still manage to work together when fighting since they rely on each other's negative and positive energy (creating a whole). Unfortunately, it also caused Nagi to suddenly be open to some of the memories he once forced himself to forget long ago. Though it happens less, he still may zone out for even longer periods of time and is far more terrified of his visions then he ever was before. Before he had died, Nagi went by the name Tenchi Shebasaburo. He was given the name of Naji (I spell it with a "g" because I am American after all...) while he resided in Soul Society. He had no memory but Tenchi holds the rest of his memories but for a very good reason!

Once Nagi woke up in the Soul Society, confused, no memory, and alone he eventually made a home at an abandoned dojo outside of the Rukongai. He somehow had spiritual powers, but did not know how he obtained them. Wanting to control this power, he spent most of his time, practicing and honing his skills with a bamboo training sword that he found (at least within his memory he did) in his new home. He used it to protect himself and others he’d run into who were in trouble or being attacked by thieves. Although people where grateful to him and even gave him the name Najiko, he still did not concern himself with them and spent his time alone. He never spoke a word to anyone due to his odd shyness.
Even though he was content with what he was doing for people, he felt empty and cold. Something was missing, like a part of his soul didn’t even exist and he’d find himself staring or waking up in unknown places. The only time he ever really felt like he was somebody was when he was helping others. That was when his calling awoke and suddenly felt that it was right to make something out of it; that he wanted to protect people always. It just felt right. Perhaps it was because he had no concern of his life at all. He realized that he didn’t fear death, for he always felt that he was already dead although his spirit was obviously still alive. Unable to figure it out, he made the decision to join the shinigami army.
He’d heard of these beings called Soul Reapers that lived inside of the Seireitei, and how powerful and great they were. Although he was annoyed with the fact that he'd never once seen one outside of their lap of luxury, he still felt the need to see for himself to find out what it was like to become something greater. His need to protect and make a difference drove him to eventually make up his mind and joined the 13 Court Guard Companies in his quest to find his own meaning.

Nagi's Real Past(What He Forgot)

This is an excerpt from an RP between Nagi and Yuki.

Quote:
You already know that Tenchi Shibasaburo was my name and the name of your Nagi as well. Little does he himself know- I was the original. This body, this spirit… it was all mine. Before I could remember, I was adopted by the Shibasaburo family. Though they seemed to be kindly people, their legacy proved otherwise. They were what you’d call a wealthy, well known mafia located in northern Japan. I was the soul heir to the family fortune and for that, I obeyed and abridged to their every will and need.

That meant taking the lives of others.

I remember the first time I killed. I slit the man’s ankle with a knife as he walked past my hiding place. He thought he was safe- not thinking that there was an eleven year old boy was under his bed. The knife was shaking in my hand because I never seen so much blood before as I watched the man hit the floor, holding his leg and screaming in pain. His eyes lit up with fear as they fell upon me as I crawled out and stabbed him in the chest out of adrenaline. I wanted those scary eyes to close.

By the time I was seventeen years old, I was qualified as a professional assassin. The lives of others did not concern me. If they had what I needed then I’d take it by force. The sounds of their screams and pleas gave me pleasure as I silenced them. I was a ruthless killer- all for the profit. However, there was one person who saw past who and what I was. She was a pretty little thing, short and strong willed. The first moment I lay eyes on her, she was wandering about the streets. She looked unhappy and appeared to be searching for something as she walked- not noticing me for her eyes were on the ground. She ran into me and fell down on the sidewalk. At first, her sadness did not affect me, but when she looked up at me, I felt the urge to help her to her feet. I couldn’t understand why I suddenly felt the way I did so out of my curiosity to find out, I decided to help her search for what she had lost. Apparently, it was a locket- a family heirloom. We never found it, and for that, she was even more upset. The sadder she appeared, the more I felt the need to be around her. It was as if her sadness was something I never witnessed before, and I needed it. For some reason, I wanted nothing more than to cheer her up. The first time I saw her smile, I fell in love. It wasn’t too long after when she felt the need for my presence too.

I never told her my profession for whenever we were together, I felt like a normal person. For the first time in my life, I was truly happy. Unfortunately, that nirvana was short lived.

It wasn’t until a rival family, enemies of the Shibasaburo clan, found out about my beloved that my life as a killer backfired on me. They targeted her right away, knowing how precious she was to me. It wasn’t until the day she was slain, throat cut before my eyes, that I realized that death was a horrible thing in the eyes of those who care. It was as if out time together made me human- able to feel pain.

Nagi only remembers the events leading up to his death because he did not truly exist until I departed and became what I am. The moment the woman I loved was slaughtered in front of me I could not bear the guilt of her fate. It hurt even more knowing that it was because of me that she was slain- Because of the person I was when I was alive and the person she never knew. That part of me that was so intent on protecting her was so powerful that he became its own spirit. True, his memories are my memories but it was my choice to let him forget what he did not want to know upon his birth. Nagi is who he is because of me though in reality, his spirit should not even exist. He bore the pain of my death and the guilt I suffered. Because of me, he swore upon his dying breath that he'd sacrifice himself for the sake of others. My memories are his burden now and my purpose is to simply help him along with my power. Nagi is nothing more than a common martyr. He longs to bear the pain of those he deems worthy of salvation. He became a shinigami to die for what he believed was his soul purpose for living again.

“Do I feel bad about what happened?”
Tenchi asked rhetorically while removing his hand from Yuki’s head. His black eyes were back to normal as they continued to stare into hers, which also began to shrink back to normal. “No and yes. The answer ‘no’ because this half of me can no longer feel guilt for my sins and ‘yes’ because of the man who is now bearing my guilt. He may have spoken of the nightmares he had the nights leading to his death- spoke of the creature that haunted and attempted to murder him. That was me, trying to put him out of his misery. He endured for a long time, but in the end, fell pray to me and passed on to this life. What I became was not those hollows that you shinigami have labeled as your enemies, but a soul of a different kind- a zanpaku-to. My use is for killing, just like when I was alive. I suppose that being ‘stuck to him’ like this is somewhat of a punishment. Nagi, being the pure soul that he is, wants for nothing. He is content the way he is- not knowing the entire truth about who he is or where he originated.”

How he died (as Nagi)-

Feeling that his life had lost all meaning, part his soul left his body; taking most of his memories with it because he didn't want to remember anymore. Those around him suddenly started to notice and grew worried at the fact that he’d just stare for hours like there was nobody in there, and that he would stay awake for days on end.

Nobody knew why this was so. Only Tenchi knew for it was all inside his head. For when he slept, he'd have terrible nightmares. These nightmares contained an episode of a monster with a white face that he strenuously fought until the time he woke up, feeling just as exhausted as he did when he fell asleep. It was as if the creature where just waiting for him every time so that they could continue their battle. Sometimes, Tenchi would wake up with physical signs like cuts and bruises on his body. The wounds on his body was blamed on self-abuse by those who where concerned about him.

After a while, the other people started to believe that he was actually the one who killed the woman he loved due to the odd change in his behavior. They thought it was for the best that he where under surveillance for he was seen as a threat to himself and others.

He died just a few weeks later in an insane asylum due to the fact that he eventually fell into a sleep that he could not wake up from. The last thing he remembered seeing was a black butterfly on the window in his cell.

Nagi's Last Moments

Thrashing, Nagi found himself awaken once more, staring up at a darkened, water stained ceiling. His face felt damp and chilled as if he broke out into a cold sweat but realized it was because water had been dripping on his face as he slept. The scent of the place made his nose feel as if it where bleeding for the room smelt heavily of mildew and like that of something rotting. For some reason, he recognized this smell for it was the stink of death. He could feel the cushion of a mattress under him but was not comfortable at all for the metal springs inside it painfully jabbed his spine. His whole body ached. Even his stomach was reeling in painful knots from lack of nourishment. He wasn’t sure how he ended up here, but this place also seemed familiar to him. When he went to sit up, he realized that he could not move. Upon glancing down at his body, his eyes widened at the sight of the dirty, adjustable white straps that bound him to the tattered bed.

He panted breathlessly for he must have been thrashing around due to his nightmares again. Fatigued from struggling so much, he let out a weary sigh and a groan when the knot in his stomach painfully tightened up more. He paused for a moment to glance out a single, solitary window with rusty bars on the far side of the empty square room where the only light spilled through, creating six glowing red squares onto the floor. Outside, the sky was crimson from the setting sun. Along the horizon was the silhouette of razor wire along a chain linked fence.

Another drip of freezing cold water fell on his face and his glance reverted back to the ceiling. He remembered now- this dark, damned place. This was the place where he’d spent the last moments of his life. They’d thought that he went crazy and killed the only person he’d ever loved and threw him in here without mercy. Even half of his own soul had abandoned him to rot here. Maybe he really was crazy… how can somebody loose half of their own soul?

…But he knew it wasn’t there. It had haunted his dreams every night.

There was a sound and his eyes returned to the window to view a solitary black butterfly perched upon the window seal. He smiled at it; how its wings fluttered freely without a care in the world. Somewhat glad to see that the rest of the world wasn’t in his place, he stared at it, feeling another drip of cold water splash onto his cheek. It glistened with red, reflecting the light from outside.

“I’m ready…” he whispered until he could see no more.

Shinigami Days- Short but Sweet

Nagi's story as a shinigami was quite the adventure. It all began with his first meeting with Yukimaru- under a tree at the Shinigami school training grounds (back in BSS). She assisted in him achieving his shikai as well as honing his shunpo abilities. As fate would have it, he joined 2nd division, the same as Yuki's, and managed to aquire a seat not too long after. His time in the there was short, as Buru Riki became captain of 5th division and wanted Nagi along side him as his lieutenant. Just before Nagi packed up and left, Yuki announced her feelings for him. Nagi, who felt the same way for a long time, accepted, and the two remained together ever since.

Once Nagi began his duties as a LT, he began reading, studying, and learning everything he could about kido. It got to the point to where he was appointed as the head trainer for Kido, and eventually was given the title "Co-captain" of his division. All was going well until Captain Buru began to act strangely- full of anger and hatred. Nagi took notice right away, but endured his captain's behavior, assuming that stress was the culprit. Buru had been a friend, and Nagi wanted to be there for him but before he finally decided to take action, it was too late. Buru had been fully consumed by the darkness and as Nagi confronted him about it for the first time, the captain attacked. The battle didn't last long, but nobody was the victor. Buru escaped and Nagi was left to lead the division on his own. Deprived of sleep most of the time, Nagi sought refuge in his friends Tansen, Ryan, and Kiro as well as his love for Yuki to help keep his own sanity. Nagi also took in Suri, a seated member of his division, as his lieutenant.

For the longest time, not a single word was heard about Buru or his whereabouts until one day, the captain-general called a meeting of the Gotai 13. As the captains were standing at attention, waiting for their commander, Daven Moto, to arrive, Buru appeared at the throne and cast a kido that temporarily froze time. Grabbing Yuki, the hollow-turned shinigami returned to Las Noches, and gave Nagi a warning as a farewell. Devastated by the event, Nagi did everything in his power to join the search party but the commander discarded his pleas. Fed up with politics, Nagi got together with Ryan and Tansen to devise a plan for his entry into Hueco Mundo to save his love.

Once the three got inside, Nagi found Buru first and the battle began. Using his bankai for the first time, Nagi unleashed all his power in destroying the corrupted former captain. Unfortunately, one last blow from Buru's great axe severed off Nagi's right arm and thus diminished the captain's ability from ever using Kido again. Nearly unconscious from the battle, Nagi was rescued by Yuki and returned to Soul Society. He was taken to 4th division to recover.

Not too long after, Nagi disappeared from the 4th division ward.

Yuki finds Nagi on earth after he abandons his shinigami duties.
