Robert was carrying Petra out into the cold outdoor training grounds, over his shoulder. Who would even be surprised? He'd picked her up and flung her over as soon as she opened the door, intent on giving her exactly what she wanted - more fighting practice, and training - but with him there beside her, making sure she was safe the whole way. The Christmas Gala had, perhaps, made him a little more protective than usual. When a man puts a ring on a woman's finger, and she almost dies in the same night, it warps his thoughts slightly.

He settled her down onto her feet as soon as he reached the faded ring on the ground, and started fussing with her coat to make sure it was buttoned to the neck.

If anyone was surprised by the sight, they were doing a marvelous job at hiding it -- as they headed out onto the snow-covered field, none of the passers by so much as glanced at them twice, either continuing to spar or heading back into the nice 'warm' building. Likely because Petra had shot enough dark looks often enough when it happened that people knew to ogle when she had her back turned. She was doing this now, her chin propped up on her palm where she had been tossed like a sac of potatoes over Robert's shoulder, expression flat as she stared behind them back towards Deus' main building, her eyes following the people they passed, as if daring them to look back at her. Every so often, Robert would bounce a little, whether unconsciously or just because he enjoyed it, and she'd make a little startled sound, unamused facade temporarily broken by a wide-eyed expression and half-flail as she braced both hands on his back.

When he carefully set her down, the moon-trainee made sure she stood exactly where he placed her, staring up at him with an even, if slightly disapproving look, watching him fuss around with her coat and scarf, like she might freeze to death. And considering what had happened not a week before, he might have had reason to worry. Even she couldn't deny that she'd almost died. Dr H and his wild technology had done a superb job patching her up, to the point where recovery had been a fraction of what it would have been anywhere else, but she had been really close. Closer than she admitted. Even standing there now, about to spar with him, the wounds she had suffered were not quite healed, and sometimes, when she was sure he wasn't around or listening, she took a deep breath as the infirmary nurses had instructed, stretching her cracked ribs to make sure she didn't get pneumonia. Perhaps it was why he insisted on her sparring with him -- he would be far more gentle than any of the others would. She understood, he was worried. It was all futile though -- they were soldiers. Or mercenaries, depending on how you looked at it. They were trained to fight and kill. That line of work was dangerous. Casualties happened.

Especially to the foolish.

She'd become a lot more callous, after that. Tried to keep it unnoticeable, but she had a feeling he knew, all the same. It wasn't just that she'd been reckless, although that was a large part of it. What she'd done could have cost them not only her own life, but others' as well. She'd done no service to Candace or Jerry by rushing in, wasting a later opportunity that might have arisen. And if one hadn't come along, there would have only been two lives lost, instead of her own in addition. It'd also costed Robert a chance to attack as well, which might have greatered their chances for success. It had been a gross miscalculation, and she couldn't let it happen again. No matter how much she had desperately wanted to save them. Emotion had no place in battle. But it was Robert and her conversation of a few days before that, too, where he'd told her she couldn't have children. It was Reine mocking her, despising her. It was even Wilson humiliating her, despite how trivial it had been.

Petra finally reached up to grab Robert's wrist, stopping him from adjusting her scarf. "It'll get warmer as we move around," she tried to put him at ease, already reaching up to tug off the silver chain around her neck, her other hand giving his a little squeeze.

Robert grinned every time he heard her let out a gasp of surprise, and if he was going to be honest, it was pretty obvious he just bounced her in his arms a few times out of sheer delight for the sound. But it was time to stop fooling around, (or was it time to start?), so he bent down and kissed her cold nose, leaving his lips pressed against the soft feature for a moment to try and warm it. Then he pulled away, and took Jezebel out of his pocket. "Okay, sunshine." He summoned the weapon from it's form, and held it out horizontal in front of him, in a defensive stance. "Warm up on me."

One side of his lips flickered upward, just slightly, in a ghost of a smile that he quickly buried underneath his srs bsns face.

Petra lifted her chin a little as he leaned down to kiss her nose, sliding her eyes closed with the affectionate gesture, exhaling contentedly. When he pulled away, she reopened them, watching him take a few steps back before summoning his weapon, getting ready, the snow crunching beneath his feet. Taking a few steps back as well, she got into position as well, standing an equal distance from him in the circle. Letting the chain fall through her fingers, the pendant hanging from it, there was a flash of light, and Cain suddenly appeared where it had been, spikes glittering dangerously where the sun reflected off the snow.

"Like I do every night?" she replied in a cool tone, eyes glittering a bit as she lifted an eyebrow.

The attack came quickly, and without much warning. She didn't move into an offensive stance, nor did she clench up, or give him a determined look. Instead, she ducked to the side, letting Cain trail a little before spinning, the momentum building with the centripetal force, arcing the mace horizontally back to try to catch him off guard. It was important to get a good first hit -- she didn't want him to go easy on her, although she knew he would.

Watching Petra move made Robert's body heat up, all right. Right before impact, his grin snuck onto his lips, only to be wiped off as he was rammed so hard it flipped his body over and sent him flying to the ground. The world went white for a moment, though it was hard to tell when that moment ended, as all he could see was white from the snow on the ground anyway. He shook his head and pushed himself back up to his feet, chuckling all the way.

"Baby, you hit so hard, I don't even know why you worry." His weapon flipped into both hands, and he crouched slightly. "Let's just get this over with. I want to go back inside and warm you up again, just like you're saying." A glimmer of something faintly harsh flickered through his gaze, before he launched forward and swung at her hard, and fast. There was no fancy footwork or graceful swing to his attack, it was clean, and simple, and fast enough to connect.

Sure, he was taking it easy on her. He wanted her fit enough to handle what he had in store for her later - beating her down would achieve the opposite intent.

She almost ran to see if he was alright. Just on reflex alone. Her fingers loosened from the hilt of her mace, and she felt it start to slip out of her hand before they tightened again, her resolve strengthening, until she was standing in a defensive pose, waiting for him to get up. When he did, he was covered in snow, the powder almost invisible on his pristine white hunter's jacket, but stark against his hair. It almost looked like he'd been rolling in it, maybe made a snow angel or got hit by a snowball, except that his eyes were suddenly harder, his smirk harsh as he teased her, and she could see the way his muscles coiled beneath the coat, ready. It wasn't just a look of determination, it was a look of competition, and she felt a little heat from it.

They had never been the best match -- despite what people might have thought (with good reason, she supposed,) they butted heads frequently. Screaming wasn't just for the bedroom in their relationship, but it was an excellent stress reliever in either case. And make-up-sex was amazing. Part of it, likely, was that they were both competitive. Not even that they hated to lose, they just liked the challenge. The match of wills.

She loved that passion in Robert. Loved it, and fueled it any chance she got.

His blade hit her in the arm, and she barely pulled back enough to catch some of the damage. Still, it hurt, and she knew she'd feel it tomorrow. Perhaps a nice hot bath was in order, after this... "You'd better be thinking about what I'm going to do to you now, not what I'm going to do to you later," she retorted, echoing the smirk. Swinging her mace, it connected hard against his weapon, the sound of metal against metal ringing through the air.

Robert's eyes widened just slightly when the swing came for him at such close range, and his batleth lifted enough to block the blow, pushing his weight into it just as she was doing with hers. The struggle between them was heated, and he leaned down just above both weapons to bend in close to her face.

"Baby, I can't stop thinking about what you're doing to me now, and later." He kissed her forehead, a gentle action, as if to ask for forgiveness for his next move. Then he disappeared, as his body had twirled and lowered, coming down around her legs with one of his own, to trip her and bring her down onto his weapon. He held it out, waiting for her, instead of trying to hit her falling form with it. It was a dirty trick, but it worked.

She wasn't as strong as he was, but throwing her weight around like she was, Petra was able to keep him back as their weapons pushed against each other, in violent contact with each other as each tried to knock the other off balance. He leaned forward, over the clashed metal, and she moved to do the same, leaning her weight harder into it -- if he hadn't been going easy on her, she was sure he could have thrown her easily. Baring her teeth a little, her eyebrows knitted together in a determined expression, feeding off the adrenaline of the fight -- she wanted him to. The frustration was apparent in the coil of her muscles, clenched as she fought hard, but not for the reason he thought. She loved that frustration, wanted to feel more of it, wanted him to give it his all so she could fight back with everything. She wanted that abandon right now, just let every hateful thought she felt for this island go.

Her expression tightened further as he leaned forward to kiss her forehead, about to retort when suddenly the weight against her mace disappeared completely. Immediately, she felt herself pitching forward, stumbling a little in the snow as she struggled to right herself leaning back a bit and snapping her head around, trying to see where he went. Too late she realized she had fallen exactly into his hand -- there was a flash to one side, and the moon trainee felt herself look just in time to watch his lowered body, leg curling around hers, snapping them out from under them. She let out a startled gasp, her eyes widening a little in surprise just as they had when he'd bounced her, twisting as she fell not to look at him, but to catch a glimpse of his weapon.

That was genius. Everyone underestimated him, but she knew better -- Robert was damn cunning. He might pretend otherwise, maybe even slip up sometimes (whether to keep up this illusion or because sometimes he really was a klutz,) but that was the brilliance behind it. He hid it so well until he really needed it.

She just barely threw herself to one side before she came down on the blade, arching her back away from the blade to try to minimize the damage. It only half worked, but she supposed it was better than what could have happened, throwing herself backward, she planted both hands into the snow, continuing the less-than-graceful back flip to land in a rather painful crouch, hands still buried in the snow. Petra didn't bother waiting to recover -- it was better to keep him on his toes than let him recover and possibly think of another means of attack. Instead, she grabbed hold of the handle to her mace tightly, digging the spikes tighter into the snow where it'd landed where she fell and using it as a pole-vault, pushing herself up with it and kicking out with her boot to shove him back.

Petra's quick movements had him on his toes, even as he remained crouched waiting for her attack. Her mace came for him, and his body tensed as it took the hit, bending back in momentum so the minimum amount of damage was inflicted. He was temporarily distracted by the way her slender arm lifted when she rose the mace, and he let out a soft, lovestruck sigh when he saw it. Alas, there would be time to admire her body later - now, he just had to disable her enough to stop the fight, and get back to bed.

Mmm. Bed.

Robert slid closer, leaving no room between them for another swing, and his blade angled around her back to pull her up against him. He pulled hard, the blade clipping into her Fear shield from behind, and pressed her up flush against him.

She was so delightfully short in comparison.

"Are we done yet?"

There crackling of the fear shield resonated across the snowy circle as Robert's blade slid smoothly behind her, her spine arching parallel to the blade as it slipped along the length of her back. He lifted her easily, pulling her body flush up against his, and her hands automatically lifted, palms pressed hard against his chest, trying to create some distance between them. She didn't struggle as fervently as she should have, though -- she'd been right, they were plenty warm now. In fact, Petra was sorely tempted to pitch the fight, going still after a second to run her fingers down his chest, turning them the further down they slid, splaying a little. Her hands were cold and wet from the snow, numb from where she'd been gripping Cain too firmly, but they warmed quickly just from the heat radiating off his body. The pads of her fingertips strayed only far enough to slip over his belt before stopping, clearly reluctant, a little shock of electricity where her thigh brushing his accidentally almost putting her over the edge.

And then her shield crackled in protest, and the moon trainee growled a little under her breath, cursing herself for getting distracted. Still, her midnight blue eyes were bright when they meet his, smirking competitively at him.

"You cheat."

The fight was absolutely, and completely, forgotten. He was barely holding his weapon at this point, as he pressed against her, burying his face into her ear and kissing it.

"Only in a fight." He responded gently, as he nibbled her earlobe.

... Were they fighting? He couldn't even remember.

Petra's eyes rolled back a little as he nibbled her ear, exhaling heavily against his neck, her head tilting back a little to expose her throat. "Bobby..." she murmured breathily, her fingers curling tightly into the folds of his pristine white coat. Her weight shifted more heavily on him, relying on him almost entirely to support her as her thigh slid up, brushing up along his as it slid to hook over his hip, bringing them closer.

Except it didn't stop there. With a jerking motion, the moon trainee pulled her leg closer to her body, forcing it between them to place the flat of her foot against his stomach, wedging a distance between them. Shoving hard, she kicked against him to propel them both backwards, dragging the sharp spikes of her mace into the ground to stop the icy skid.

"Pay attention."

Smirking a bit, Petra kicked off the ground again, taking a running start before hitting the snow like a baseball player sliding for a base, skidding past him and dragging Cain along in the snow beside her, using its weight to trip him as he'd done her.

The sound of his nickname whispered from her lips had him all but begging for it, running his hands down her arms, and waist, until they climbed back up from her back. He was lost to the entire process, completely unaware of where they were or what they had been doing, and his mind blanked out to nothing but white noise when her leg hitched up against him. He reached out to hold that leg under her knee, ready to pull her down into the snow and make some steam, when he was pushed away rather suddenly. He stumbled away, eyes glazed and blinking back into focus, and to be quite honest, the pain that roared up at him from certain places was so strong, it legitimately ebbed away at his Fear shield. That was one serious case of blue balls.

Quite suddenly, he was off his feet and lying in the cold snow, on his back. He looked up at the sky and whimpered, silently asking whatever god resided up there why. Why, God, why did his fiancee want to fight instead of have sex right now? Whyyyyyy.

She had felt a little satisfied, perhaps sadistically so, when Robert had fallen to her attack, already scrambling up and ready, in case he had a counter-measure already tucked away in that deceptively brilliant skull of his. But after a few seconds ticked by, and he was still laying on his back staring up at the sky, she was starting to realize that his brain (and another part of his anatomy,) had long since left the training grounds, and were sailing on a little paper boat together through the gutter. Giving a little sigh, Petra's shoulders fell into a more relaxed pose, her expression mildly disapproving as she straightened up from her defensive crouch. Tip of her mace dragging behind her in the snow, the moon trainee sauntered towards him with a slight sway to her hips -- she was not in the least immune to what he was feeling. She'd definitely warmed up on him alright. It was just that her willpower and intention to become a better, more efficient hunter was proving stronger than her libido at the moment.

But not by much.

Crouching down next to him, she slid one leg over his body, settling herself on his hips and folding her arms across his chest, lips hovering just a few inches away from his.

"Robert, sweetheart, you promised you'd fight me..." she murmured like one would try to coax a disgruntled child. Well... maybe not quite like that, considering there was a definite purr to her voice. "Don't make me punish you."
