A pair of lovingly-wrapped presents disappeared into Taryn's suitcase and she carefully zipped it closed. She hadn't had much to pack, all things considered. There was only a single night planned to celebrate Christmastival, but the focus had always been more on a meal with family than the wild celebrations some Halloweeners enjoyed. Taryn would be back to school and back into her studies the next afternoon, which was how her parents liked it. Frankly, the ghoul might have liked to spend a few more days, herself. She hadn't seen her family in so long, even her parents, and felt a bit of homesickness having been in Amityville so long. She had so much to tell them! New friends, new activities, wild adventures... they'd stuck to written notes.

The chimera hefted her bag up, finding it not nearly heavy enough to struggle with, and patted her pocket to make sure her seeds were still there (although she didn't know why they would be gone in the first place). With that, she was on her way to the train station.

The punk reaper was waiting outside her room, leaning against the wall with his hands in his pockets. He shot her a little grin as she stepped out, looking a tiny bit less exhausted than he had been during the play and snow things.

"Hi," he said. "You called and you tried to blow me off, you know," he scolded her. "I thought I told you not to leave without seeing me, remember?" He straightened, holding out a hand for her bag. "So I'm going to walk you to the train station."

A wide grin split Taryn's face and she fairly glowed. Never before had she had a friend so close as to meet her before leaving on vacation, and she got the feeling that she may never again. Without thinking, she grabbed his hand and started down the hall, giving it a little squeeze and keeping her suitcase.

"You're the best, Roch."

"Nah, not really," he said, thinking of the gift he had dug around his room frantically for as soon as she had called. It was kind of sad, in a way, that he was stuck giving her something so jackin' old. Not that there was anything wrong with it or anything, it was loaded down, too, but--

He went along with her willingly, reaching for her suitcase. "Hey, I said I was gonna carry it, so hand it over," he told her, grinning slightly as he grabbed for it.

"Oh, Roch, you don't have to..." Taryn said, but she knew better than to fight. She handed over her suitcase and released Roch's hand, turning a little redder. They weren't in danger of getting separated, after all...

"I got two hands," he said, carrying the suitcase in his left and reaching for hers with his right. "I ah... got used to walkin' like this," he admitted, the back of his neck turning a little red as he realized what he was doing. "You gonna be happy? Y'know, to go home and see your family again?"

Taryn gave Roch the shyest of smiles and hesitantly slid her hand back into his. She had let him sleep in her bed for his comfort before, and he still didn't look entirely rested. She would do it for him... and kind of liked it herself, really. She knew in her heart, though, that it was a bad idea; she would grow attached and have nothing to show for it.

"I'm excited. I haven't seen them much since I started at Amityville, maybe once or twice. Christmastival isn't a really big event for us, but it's nice. It's... domestic. Homey." The ghoul's smile went broader and much less embarrassed.

He went silent, thinking of his own Christmastivals, then shoving it aside. Things were different now. He was starting to sort of talk to his old man, even knew his granddad, which was a strange concept. And... well, he would miss the guys back home, but he could call them.

And he had pals now, right? If he got really bummed over it being Christmastival, he could always go knocking on doors until he found someone to play with. It shouldn't take too much work. "Then I'm glad you're going," he told her with a grin. "But you probably shouldn't tell them about me. It'd only start a fight or somethin," he said quickly. "For some reason I don't think parents would like to know about your pal that's got a juvie record."

"Well they don't have to know you've got a record," Taryn shrugged. There was no way she could explain her time at Amityville without even mentioning Roch. They didn't have to hear about his piercings or his hair or his tattoo, but his name would undoubtedly come up. She'd had a few more effeminate cousins as a child, maybe they would be there! She could tell them all about her woes, and maybe even get some advice!

...not that there was really anything to be done about all of this. "I think they'll probably be proud I'm socializing. I've never really... had any friends." Everyone had probably assumed that of her, but it was embarrassing to admit.

"Yeah? Well it's them that's missin' out," he said stubbornly, clearly believing it. "Unlucky jacktards never got to karaoke with you or anything," he added with a hint of teasing. "What's your home like, anyway? There a lot of shopping places around, or something else to do?"

Ah, jack, he was getting nosy again. He shouldn't be nosy! She might think he was pryin', or jealous of her goin' home when he wasn't, or--

Taryn tilted her head slightly as she thought, entirely ignoring the comment on having friends. She hadn't been the 'friends' type, really, she had been so closed down to all life had to offer...

"You know, I haven't explored much. I know where some shops are... it's suburbia. Very uninteresting and exactly what you'd expect." She smiled sweetly up at Roch. She'd always imagined him in the city, herself.

"I'm a city boil," he said almost proudly, having no clue he'd just read her mind. "I grew up on the streets most of the time. But uh, comin' here, with the scarefari right there, I kinda... fail at country stuff," he admitted sheepishly. "Don't think I've seen suburbia except for when the train was passin' through it."

He laced his fingers through hers, looking over at her with a grin. "I'm gonna do a bit of caroling if I can find anyone to play for, but you get my first song of the day. You got any requests? Cuz otherwise I'm gonna play what I want."

Well, look at that! She'd been right. All of a sudden Roch was the bigger iFish out of water, and maybe three times as impressive.

"I've never really been into the city, so... big and busy... oh?" She got to be the first of Roch's caroling exploits? Taryn felt... special all of a sudden. She looked down at the pavement in front of her and shrugged. "I don't know. Surprise me!" The ghoul turned up to Roch again and grinned. How would he play?
PostPosted: Wed Dec 28, 2011 7:39 pm

"See, now you're taking a risk," he teased her. "I might play something so bad that they kick us out of the train station, and it would be all your fault!" Sure he would, he thought, almost laughing. Like he would do that to Taryn--although it would make her have to stay--

Noooo, not going there. He'd had that problem once before, he wasn't doing it again. They were just friends, and they were going to stay that way!

The train station loomed ahead, making him a bit surprised at how quickly the walk had gone. "You got everything you need?" he asked her. "Your phone? Money for snacks? Something to do while you're traveling?"

"Of course!" Taryn nodded, swinging Roch's hand slightly. She was nothing if not efficient. In fact, she may have packed a little too much? Either way, she was all set for the train ride and once she arrived. The ghoul picked up the pace some as the train station got closer, excitement rising.
