Imbali was creeping around. It was late at night and dark. Her claws were half extended at this time of night. She was always on the search for a snack. What was it with her perpetual hunger anyways? She had not the least clue, but she figured it was always best to be on a hunt and ready to satisfy it at any given moment. Luckily for her, being a well built leapord, sometimes she could chase off hyenas or wild dog packs and steal their meals sometimes as well. Well, that was if there was anything left after a big group of them. Still, she had found that sort of methods were rather the type to bite her later on. Those packs would become aware of her and attack her on sight. Eventually, she got around to hunting on her own. Her thick tail swished around her to either side once or twice before making a whispered thud on the floor. She masked her body into the leaves of nearby oasis trees. She poised for it, waiting for the right animal to stroll by.

Kai just happened to be in the same section of jungle as the leopardess on the late night, blending in with the shadows so much so that she seemed to be one of them, save for her bright jewel like blue eyes. So much so that when she passed by where the leopard had hidden herself she would be easy to miss - by anyone except for another big cat maybe. She didn't notice the leopard herself, too intent on the faint boar trail she had been following for at least an hour, her eyes tracking the ground, her long back tail swishing behind her noiselessly. She paused - only a few feet in front of where Imbali was hidden - and sniffed the ground, letting out a faint chuffing noise, not detecting the leopardess' scent because she herself had come in from a different direction than the other big cat, and the wind wasn't in her favor.

Imbali couldn't see or hear the female who had just crossed right in front of her. However, she could smell her. When the whiff of fur went up Imbali's nose, she wiggled it around. This put her on guard a great deal since she was smelling someone but not seeing them. What was this? A jackal? She gave another smell, but it didn't smell canine. Should she risk running off the game with a confrontation? Should she charge her game instead of letting someone else sneak up on it? Not like game was scarce in these parts, but it wasn't uncommon for the lone striding felines to pop up at night. Sure.. those who lived in prides would all go and hunt during the day together. Or, wild dog packs could take stuff down together. Leopards though... they often would just take something down on their own.
As the long and well built leapordess started to feel anxious and impatient, she went against her inner warnings. She darted out a claw and pawed at the air in front of her. What was that she felt... a tail? She moved it around some more. If she were to swipe again and harder with claws all the way out; she'd find out for sure what was going on, but that might be too aggressive. It's surely get her butt kicked.. in the middle of the night. She didn't even know what it was? What if it were a giant lion? Not all lions could take her down, but some could. She gently swatted at the tail again as it moved. She could feel its fur brush against her paw. There was definitely something almost right in front of her. She moved up behind it getting ready to pounce.

Feeling something brush her tail, she had at first dismissed it as vegetation, and flipped her apendage away. When it happened again, she became more curious, flipping her tuffed tail out of reach and then back within range of whatever was brushing it concealed in the bushes, not moving, finding herself curious rather than afraid. It was then that she realized - when she tried to scent what was harassing her - that the wind wasn't in her favor. Whatever was there could smell her, but she couldn't smell it. Well, she hadn't been attacked yet, which meant that it was unlikely another lion.
She was wary of other lions, as more often than not the females meant trouble, as they were often pride affiliated, and didn't appreciate her walking the fringes of their lands as she sometimes did. She wasn't ready to join a pride herself yet, and so she had to skirt that dangerous place where company was not always a welcome thing. Still, she was lonely, and so this presence was interesting to her. Was it game? She was hungry, but more curious than anything. The lion turned her head, but kept still otherwise, watching the bushes, but not speaking, squinting in the dark light to try and see what had been tapping her tail, wondering if it would come out, or if she would have to coax it out. After a minute or so of silence however, she grew a bit tired of waiting, and even questioned if she had imagined it, or what - or who - ever it was had maybe moved on, so she spoke.
".....Anything there?" She tried to make her tone neutral, but wary. She wouldn't mind company, but at the same time, she didn't want to invite trouble.

As the last few ticks and second passed, Imbali hoisted herself up on her hind legs and gently draped her paws on the other's shoulders. "Boo~" She said just barely speaking loud enough to be heard. "Though you probably might want to have asked 'who' was there rather than what..." She wanted to snicker to herself. While she was glad she hadn't been attacked for this yet, she was enjoying sneaking up on someone. That happened rarely out here.. even if it was night.

Kai let out a reflexive growl as she was half pounced, even though she could tell that it wasn't aggressive - at least yet. She hoped it wouldn't become aggressive, but she wouldn't hold her breath. Her ears perked and her head turned towards this sudden newcomer. It was so very dark and she couldn't see very well, but for the firs time she could smell what had been hiding in the shadows and brush, and her nose knew the smell at least a little well: Leopard.
Well, she hadn't had an overly bad encounter with a leopard as of yet, and from the voice, this was a female, though with lions that usually meant bad news, but one could always hope it was different with another species. Maybe they could be friends? All these thoughts and a few more flitted through her mind as she took in the weight of the strong paws over her shoulders. At least she didn't feel claws. And the other cat didn't sound mean, she sounded playful, at least to Kai's ears.
"Well I wasn't sure if maybe it was just some brush hitting my tail... looks like that guess was completely wrong." She chuffed in slight amusement, but really it was disappointment in herself. This leopard had been so close yet she'd had no idea! She needed to be better on gaurd... what if it had been a lion from a pride?

Imbali grimaced as she heard one of the game she had been stalking skitter off. Rats. It must have heard her. That was what she had been afraid of. As she shook and hung her head in personal disgust with herself, she then tilted it to look at the lioness. The lioness was still hard to make out in the dark. It was a wonder to Imbali that the lady could be detected there at all. She then said as much to the female. "Well.. to be quite honest.. I just kind of went by where i felt your tail at and made a guess. It is really hard to see you here in the dark."
Then, Imbali moved to sit next to her to see if she could see her better. "Well, earlier, i was hunting something bigger but let it go figuring it might be hard to catch on my own. We could team up if you like... I'm pretty flexible. I can negotiate which part i eat once the kill is made."

Kai chuckled softly, ears perking breifly as she heard something run away through the bushes. Well, neither of them would be eating whatever they had scared away.... shame. She hoped the leopard wasn't too hungry... she would feel bad if she had pretty much caused her to lose this chance at a meal. From the droop of her ears and the sudden drop of her head though, she figured maybe she had. Oops. "It helps that I don't have a spot of color on me, besides my eyes. I admit it helps with hunting and hiding, alot of the time."
The midnight colored lionness shifted her own weight to sit when the other did, glad this chance meeting was going well so far. "From the look on your face a moment ago and the way you hung your head, I'm guessing that was your potential dinner we just chased off by talking, and that you might be hungrier than me, so it seems only fair that I help you sniff out something. So we can do that. Two hunters is better than one after all." Kai smilied at the other big cat, her whiskers twitching slightly.

Imbali staunched a second feeling a little embarassed. She goaded herself inwardly about her own bad manners. Surely this was no way to treat a lion. She then shook her head wiping a friendly smile onto it. "Oh.. well, yeah, but that's all right. And, it's not your fault that I'm hungry. but... maybe we can use that ability to hide in the night to our advantage."
Poor Imbali.. Unable to deter her train of thought onto anything other than her stomach. It was embarrassing, but she would try rather hard not to let it become too obvious that's what it was. She knew if she kept this up; she'd turn into a chubby old woman who couldn't run very well. She swished her thick tail around on the ground, almost like a snake slithering to and fro. "Though I must thank you humbly for not killing me.. or maming me..."

" Then I'll thank you for not doing the same. I may big bigger, but your kind are often stronger, since you can climb trees. Hmm... actually... that could work to our advantage. I can do the hunting, and you could do the scouting from up high. It's a thought anyway." The black lioness tilted her head at the other big cat, wondering if she would like this idea. It was a little surprising to her that the leopardess would afford her such seemingly automatic respect. Was it like this everywhere? She didn't know, she had barely run into any other cats of her own species, let alone that of another. Well, now was as good a time as any to learn, she supposed. Though maybe that conversation should wait until after each of their bellies was a little more full than they currently were. " Unless you had different thoughts? We could corral something, I could chase it toward where you were waiting and you could pounce on it from higher up than my claws let me climb. What do you think?" She swished her tail amiably. ((sorry it took me so long to reply!!!! ;-; I had alot going on at the end of the year sweatdrop ))

Imbali swished her tail back and forth. Was this lionness really serious? She was willing to partner up for a kill? Imbali wasn't sure if she should trust her though the other hadn't attacked her yet. She then started to relax more. Ok. No need to be defensive.
"I like your plan. Sounds adventurous. Not fool proof, but... a good meal in the jungle is often times anything but fool proof." She grinned and sprung in a blink of an eye up a tree trunk. She hopped around and clawed as she found a good branch that was low enough to pounce quickly, but it was also high enough to hide.
"what you think? would you know i was here if you didn't just see me do that?"

Kai's eyes followed the leopard as she nearly effortlessly pulled herself up the tree. Wow.... she really wished she could do that... it would be an extremely useful skill! "Wow you really shimmied up that tree like it was nothing...." he mumbled aloud in surprise.
Blinking, she squinted her eyes, knowing where her voice was coming from, but not able to see the leopardess behind the sheild of leaves and branches and vines that was now keeping her out of sight.
"Nope... there's not a chance. I would have no idea you were there if I wasn't speaking to you right now. That's very impressive... I wish I had such climbing skills...." the compliment was as honest.
"Alright, with you there, I'll go rustle something up and chase it this way. Hopefully that won't be too hard. If it has been more than an hour and I can't find anything, I'll come back, so you don't have to wait there forever, and we can both try a different place, alright?"

Imbali sat eating the hind leg in her paws. She had shamelessly torn it off with her teeth, and then she just started to eat it like a piece of corn on the cob. She hadn't stopped to think she was being quite a messy eater in front of this person, but the other female didn't seem the least bit taken aback by it.
"Oh man... did you see its eyes? they like almost popped out the sockets when i lunged down from that branch. that was so much fun. we need to do this more often."
She flicked her long tongue around her face to make sure she was wiping up the dripings. Then, she looked over to admire the other as they shared this joint obtained meal. In her mind, this was definitely someone she needed to befriend. It wasn't everyday you could eat a meal like this with a lion.. and there not be the least ounce of awkward between. She started to purr almost audibly as she finished her bone, laying it to the side before taking more.

Kai laughed, a rare sound for the lioness, honestly. She had enjoyed flushing the animal from the bush, directly towards the waiting leopard. Maybe leopards and other big cats weren't so bad. She would have to remember this encounter for the future.
Having worked up an appetite herself, Kailayna really thought nothing of the others rather messy and greedy eating as she herself gnawed away on a front haunch of meet.
"It was indeed something! This was fun, I have to agree! I wouldn't be opposed to doing this again." she smiled and tug back into her food.
Laying down after she had finished, she joined in Ibali's purring, happy for amiable company after having traveled alone for so long. This jungle wasn't such a bad place, if you set aside the annoying vines. Sometimes chance meetings could be very nice.
