Return of Darkness
Return of Darkness
Back Story
Three and a half millenia ago, the six kingdoms of the world forged pendants of great power to defeat a rising darkness. The Golems forged a metal that could amplify magic. The Elven alchemists created the gems that would hold the magic used in the pendants, while the Lycan reinforced them with various materials. Finally between the Orcs, Humans, and Dark Elves, the pendants were imbued with the power of the elements. One of consuming fire, one of shattering earth, one of powerful lightning, one of flowing water, one with the grace of wind, and the final one with the harsh power of darkness. When the war for the earth was finally over, the pendants were forged into special weapons and locked away in each of the kingdoms. The humans guarded the pendant of fire, the Golems protected the pendant of earth, the Elves took lightning and the dark elves took the darkness. The remaining two were given to the Lycan, who recieved the water pendant and the Orcs, who recieved the pendant of wind. Unknown to anyone, the Dark Elves fell subject to the great darkness long before the war ended...
Golems
The Golems are a race built on business. They do not show agression unless their customers don't pay on time. One would think everyone would be quick to pay considering they grow up to 10 feet tall and have a fierce look about them. Their closest allies are the Humans and Lycan, which is good since the two races don't get along very well. When the Golems were given the pendant of earth, the forged it into a powerful hammer made out of molten steel and rock. With the power of the pendant giving the hammer strength, it could cause earthquakes and small fissures. For this the weapon was heavily guarded in the deepest part of the Golem upper-quarter.
Elves
Elves are a society of "enlightened" people. They are of the few who take the time to study magic and its relation to the physical world. They also enriched their culture with many forms of art and architecture. Many Elves typically think they are smarter and better than most people they meet. Luckily this is not the case with the upper class. Though they already know enough magic to win battles, it supprised the Elf queen was supprised when she was granted the task of guarding the lightning pendant. She had it forged into a grand claymore and locked it away beneath the Elven palace.
Orcs
Th Orc kingdom is the most peaceful of all the kingdoms. They are wise and have better patience than any of the six races. The Orcs are a spiritual people who consult with their ancestors before making big decisions. This was the method they used that allowed them to accept the pendant of wind. They split the pendant in two and put the pieces in a set of claws. They were then passed down from leader to leader throughout the generations.
Dark Elves
The Dark Elves study the darker side of magic and use it to defend against evil in the world. After the war, the Dark Elves became tainted with evil and were corrupted. Unfortunately they were entrusted with the pendant of darkness before anyone knew of their evil. They soon shunned the world and began preparing for war against the other nations; they now called themselves the Shroud. The dark pendant that was given to them was imbedded in a dark mages staff and given to the Shroud's overlord.
Lycan
The Lycan were once able to take human form during the day. During the great war of darkness they were cursed and bount in their beastly forms. Only the magic from a Dark Elf can potentially break the curse. This divided the Lycan society into those who would work for the Shroud to gain their freedom, and those who would fight them to win it back. The Lycan chieftain was barely convinced to join the Elves during this time of division and with him came the pendant of water. It was infused in the blade of a staff crafted by the Golems. The staff was kept by the chieftain and guarded at all times.
Human
An honor bound race, humans fight for glory, justice, and protection of all races. During the war it was the humans that created an opening for an Elf to strike the final blow. Unfortunately it left the Lycan open for an attack, which lead to later tension between the two races. The pendant of fire was given to the humans as a symbol of their burning courage. The king of human nations had the pendant divided and put into two swords. The swords were put safely in a secret chamber in the king's throne room.
