Everyone needed to eat, and Grant was no exception. He shopped at his former place of work, which firmed him after he had gone missing from work for a month. He was still very friendly with everyone there, completely understanding why they couldn't keep him and not holding it against them in the slightest.
It probably didn't occur to him that the option for him to be bitter was even there. Everyone in his position would understand right?
Maybe.
In any case, he was at the check out, talking to a cashier who he had used to be the bagger for. That was his job here at Malbertson's. Grocery bagger. and he was damn good at it. Bright and talkative, he had loved conversing with the patrons, the cashiers, and never complained about his duties. He had been a good employee, for what he was worth, though one could not build a career on bagging groceries. That was another thing that failed to occur to him. He hadn't been there for a career.
He had been happy. But he would find something else to do (he was still looking, and certain all those people who got his resume had perfectly logical reasons for not calling him back, or were just too busy to get back to him and he understood that). And he would be happy again. After all, what was the point of doing a job you didn't get up every day looking forward to doing?

Nana had sent Roxy out in almost a hissy to the grocery store, after finding a recipe she wanted to try, the older matriarch of the house had realized how barren the cupboards were and shoved her granddaughter to fulfill her demands of ingredients.
It wasn't a terrible little errand really, given how much Roxy loved her grandmother, but the older woman had seemed overly frustrated by how low supplies were. It wasn't like they didn't get food, her mother had planned a run for tomorrow anyways.
Oh well, Roxy sighed, checking over the list and coupons one last time as she waited in the check out line. It seemed with how long she was waiting she was given a chance to look it over a good three times before she would even get a chance to pay. Annoyed, her golden eyes glanced up to the cashier to see what was going on, only to notice the hold up was a full blown conversation with a very chipper blonde haired boy.
Really?
Well, she couldn't be terribly mad about a conversation, given she wasn't any better when she could get the ball rolling but it just seemed like the cashier was going on a whole lot slower being engrossed with talking to the other guy.
The other guy.... who looked really familiar.
Really familiar.
"Do I know you from somewhere?" She blurted out, pointing a finger at Grant so they got the picture of who she was referring to. And not minding one bit that she was probably interrupting.

Grant jumped a bit when he heard another voice enter the conversation. He had been a little focused on his talk with the grocer, so he hadn't been as observant to his surroundings as he usually liked to be.
He would have to apologize for that.
When he turned and saw Roxy he smiled brightly at her, excited to see her again immediately. He was bad with faces and names sometimes, but he remembered her from their time in the Surrounding together.
"Roxy!" he said, offering her his hand though it was very clear by the way he moved forward and then back that he had double thought a hug because he didn't want to make her uncomfortable if she didn't remember him. But he was very much a fan of hugs. He couldn't come right out and say where they knew each other, since the cashier was still listening, and he was pretty sure it was supposed to be a secret.
"It's me, Grant. I gave you a tour once! A not very good one, but uhm." He grinned at her and laughed, hoping he wasn't being too subtle or too overt. He was very bad at keeping secrets like this, trying to talk about them without talking about them. he was much better at the ones you kept and never told another soul about.

Obviously he was a lot better at names and faces than she was at the moment - which stung her pride a little really - and she had to tilt her head and squint at Grant for a moment until it finally dawned on her.
"Oh!" Yes, yes.. now it was all coming back to her. The kidnapping in space, that whole awful experience.... he had been one of the few nice people she had encountered there and they looked at one of the castle. Roxy hand shook in the air as it all came flooding back to her. "Yes!" Her gold eyes glanced at the confused cashier for a moment, realizing he was out of the loop and would be better off not in it and then glanced back to the other blonde, "it wasn't a very bad tour you know." She smiled.
"I'm glad to see you're alright Grant," really she was. "I haven't seen many other people from that time, so.. well, never really got a chance to make sure others were okay." It was easy when you saw your friends everyday after all, so the crew was a no brainer.
"Have you?" She really was curious.
Come to think of it, Roxy also wanted to know how he knew her real name. Hadn't she used a codename?

Grant smiled brightly, very happy she had remembered him. Of course, it was not very difficult to make him very happy. Not that it was a bad thing, either way.
He thanked the cashier and finished up his transaction, not wanting to hold up the line further now that he had noticed he was doing so. He apologized profusely, to each person in line.
Most of them forgave him, or were indifferent enough to him not to give him the time of day for a response.
He took them as forgiving him, as well.
"I have met a few!" he said, nodding his head. One he couldn't really talk about, of course, because she had changed her identity after awakening as a Dark Senshi, but that was alright. He had seen a couple of the others, and he knew everyone had gotten out of it alright. In his heart, even if he hadn't seen them all and likely never would.
They had to all be okay. Why wouldn't they?
"I'm pretty sure we all came home," he said, waiting to help her with her groceries since he had only gotten one bag and could easily carry more. And he helped on instinct, kind of like a very well experienced butler.

Well, Roxy noticed, he was just as nice and overly friendly as he was in space. She didn't get the whole extent of Grant up there, but she had gotten enough to gather just a little bit of an impression of him. It was all ringing true really.
He apologized to each person, huh.
"That's good to know," Roxy replied as the cashier began to scan her items. "That was a terrible experience and I'd hate to learn that someone actually died up there or something," was she still a little bitter about it? Yes, but only when it was brought up - though, that was her own damn fault. The blonde began to hand over a few of her coupons as she realized her statement. "Well, died and stayed dead and all."
Yeah, that had sucked even more.
The cashier gave her an odd look from what Roxy had muttered but went back to his work, tallying the total up and began to bag. She was going to be going home with two bags today, not even realizing that Grant had full intentions of helping her out.

Grant moved and got the bags when they were ready, smiling brightly at her as he did so, just so she knew he wasn't going to run off with her food.
He had no intention of doing that.
Keeping track of what was his and what was hers was easy, and there weren't too many bags for him to handle effectively. He was, at least, very good at helping people when he needed to.
"Yes, I'm very glad that everyone seems to have gotten out. I mean, as far as I know! and I'm sure it didn't pick and choose." He had every faith that everyone had come home safe and sound. He did know, from personal experience now, that some of them had new names and lives, but they were still the same. And they were still alive.
That was the most important part, wasn't it?

"Oh," Roxy stated with surprise when Grant got to her bags before she could. Her hands went into the air as she let him pass, her yellow eyes blinking owlishly for a moment. The blonde didn't really expect the boy to run off with her food, even only knowing him for the short amount of time she did. He had been a gentleman on their journey throughout a castle after all, and rather timid enough to not even let the idea of him running off to cross her mind.
She just never expected him to be this nice, knowing full well what other guys at her old school were like. Well, they'd probably run off with the food.
"Thank you, Grant," her face lit up with an honest smile. The girl gestured with a nod for him to follow, trying her best to keep at an even pace with him as to not make him seem like some pack mule or servant who trailed behind.
"So, have you been up to much since coming back? I'm assuming you're also going to HITS, right?" Roxy began, stringing along a line of decent inquires as she lead him to her car, "I know a few of the others," well those who mattered to her, "are.. aside from being alive. It's kind of strange that they sent us all packing to a new school." She hummed.

Grant was a sweetheart, and he smiled to reflect that. It wasn't that he considered himself a nice guy, and had to do it because his ego told him to. It wasn't his destiny to help every single person he came across. It was, in fact, something he failed to think about, and did on instinct alone.
If there was any sort of personal reward in it, it was simply because he liked seeing people smile, and wished everyone to have good days. If he could make one better with just a moment of gracious behavior or a well place compliement, he certainly would try.
The smile on her face made his heart jump, and he responded to it in kind.
"You're very welcome!"
He considered her questions as they walked, not knowing what car was her but imagining she would show him the way and not let him go wandering off in the parking lot with her food.
"I am! School takes up some time, and I'm looking for a new job. I haven't found one yet, but I'm certain I'll get it in time. I hadn't considered that before, but it is a little convenient for us all to be in the same school after that whole space thing! But it's nice, too. If we weren't, we might not have found out that most people were okay. I'd hate to have worried about them all without any hints or anything, wouldn't you?"

Roxy smiled as she lead Grant towards an orange Mini-Copper convertable; relatively new and still with the dealer's license plates but sadly already covered in a thin layer of dirt and grim from being unwashed thanks to the recent weather. The blonde pulled out her keys and clicked the 'unlock' button as they finally came around.
She remained silent for a moment, choosing her words carefully to reply to the boy. He was such a gentle soul, and for once she wasn't sure if she really wanted to speak her opinion on the matter of the other people they had been stuck with; she was going to be blunt after all. True, there were a few others she didn't mind encountering on their adventure but a majority of them had sticks up their asses. The knowledge no one really did die though, was good to hear as Grant had repeated.
"No kidding," Roxy finally replied as she took one of the bags from Grant's arms to put in her back seat. "It's a technological school and its so demanding and awkward to be there. I don't feel like I fit in at all," she confessed. "How are you faring, even with looking for a job?" What would the boy be looking for anyways?

"Oh, what a cute car!"
And it was. It was small, bright, and looked very sleek and fun. It was the kind of car he loved to see, since he felt they had such personality and the color was unique. It reflected well on the kind of person who would buy it. Not that any car reflected poorly on someone, as there was good in all types, but Grant was not really a good source for anything that might be negative.
Grant helped her put the bags in her car, making sure to keep his separate so he didn't end up giving her move food than she wanted. It wasn't about wasting his money, in his head, anyway. It was just a fleeting thought, but he imagined if she wanted anything like what was in his bags she would have bought it already.
Chances were good she didn't even like what he bought.
"I know, it was a bit overwhelming, but new experiences are good! And if you really don't like it I'm sure you can transfer somewhere else. I think it's fun, exploring things I hadn't thought to before. But I'm doing very well, thank you for asking."
It was very difficult, of course, for anything to get him down. Even if he only had a dollar to eat with for the week, he'd find all the bright sides there were to find.

"Thanks!" Roxy chirped at the compliment, "my parents got it for me for my birthday." And probably a little of 'oh thank god you're alive!' since the two events were rather close to one another. She hadn't complained in the least to which ever the reason she had gotten a car. It was a car and that was enough for her.
With the proper groceries loaded in, and a quick look to make sure Grant had his, Roxy closed the door with a soft click as to not interrupt the conversation with such a loud noise. The blonde's hand remained on the frame, drumming her fingers lightly on the soft roof. "True enough, though I'd rather not leave everyone," they had gone to school for a few years now together so leaving them would feel awkward, "so, just have to make the best of it." Which would probably take a lot, though perhaps such a new school could be beneficial for her after-school hobbies and all. Oh, such plans that could be made.
Unsure of where to steer the conversation, honestly.. things seemed to be repeating to the blonde, Roxy gave one look to her car and then to Grant. "So, want a ride to your car or something?"

"Oh, no thank you!"
Grant chuckled and nodded his head, lifting up his groceries as if that explained it. But not, it didn't. He was just going to go home on foot. He liked to walk and he liked to wheel around on his heelies, and that was how he was going to get home.
Maybe he'd bump into someone else that needed help.
Or maybe he'd find a place that was hiring.
He could not predict what he was going to do. He didn't like to. He just liked going on his way and enjoying his fun. He liked reacting to the things life set at him and being happy for every chance he was given.
And he couldn't avoid running into those chances by sticking to cars! He had helped her and he was going to move on now. He smiled, chuckling.
"I've got things in hand. I'll see you again some time!"

Aside from his obvious decline to her offer, Roxy suddenly had gotten the feeling that well... he probably didn't have a car, did he. In this day and age it was hard to gauge which teenagers had been given the chance to sit behind the wheel or not.
Or even those like Grant who chose not to and see the world as the walked in with their own two feet. "Oh, alright," she replied with a chuckle, mentally waving off that feeling of awkwardness from her small moment of not thinking. Not everyone drove, nothing wrong with that. It was at least a new little tidbit to file in the folder she mentally had on Grant.
"Be safe getting home, alright?" The blonde smiled as she opened up the door to the driver's seat, "I don't want to hear about how you've become a hood ornament, alright?"
"I'll see you around," she added with a small wave, she would have gone in for the hug but she was honestly a little unsure about that. They weren't that close of friends just yet after all but they were at least getting to know one another. Perhaps next time, Roxy decided as she pulled herself in her seat, neatly closing the door behind her and looking back at the blonde boy.
Roxy gave him another smile, unsure if he could see from where he stood and gently turned he key to start the car and head on her way out.

Grant knew how to drive, he just chose not to. He also chose not to wonder what had happened to his care, which had been on the street one day and not there the next. He imagined whoever had taken it really needed it, and hadn't pursued the matter past that.
He chuckled and nodded his head.
"I'll avoid getting run over to the best of my ability!" He promised, waving as she got into her car and pulled away. He waited for her to be on her way before he turned to head off toward his own home. Bags in arm, he scooted on his wheeled shoes and hummed on his way home.
Making friends was probably the best thing in the world, and he very much enjoyed finding one he had only just started to make in space, and continuing that effort. He looked forward to seeing her again.
