Sailor Virtus.

It was a name the young, and new, Dark Senshi was still getting used to. He had never powered up on his own before, without someone there to help him. He wasn't sure if he was supposed to be, but he did remember he was told to do his job, and that meant he had to power up whenever he could, right?

There were things he needed to do.

Things he didn't really understand. He knew there was energy, and there were people, and there were enemies. He knew that there was something inside him now, something different and it made him stronger in a way. But it could not overcome his innocence, his optimism. Even corrupted, as it might have been called, he was still Grant.

Virtus was sitting in a tree, having climbed up into it to hide so he could power up. There was no one around so he had no reason to hide in a tree, but he was sure he had to be as careful as possible, and he didn't want to make any mistakes on his first night out alone.

So up a tree he went.

That Virtus’ aura was that of a Dark Mirror Senshi was all Remarque needed to be interested in following it.

He had been aware of it for a very slight while before he decided to seek it out. Remarque had gathered what he deemed an acceptable amount of energy for the evening and would have been on his way home if it weren’t for that nagging voice in the back of his head urging him to go stick his nose where it didn’t belong.

Curiosity was becoming a fast flaw of his, and while it hadn’t bitten him in the a** yet, it was likely to do so in the future. Not that his ego would allow him to even consider the possibility that it was by luck alone. Given that he was convinced he could stand his ground around just about everyone, he wasn’t worried in the slightest when he stalked through the night, trailing the aura.

It wasn’t as surprising to find someone he’d never seen before as it was to find them up a tree.

He’d been on top of the energy signature and was almost to the point of being perplexed when he went to stretch and spotted the male.

Unless someone had been busy collecting more members to add to the Court, he supposed that this was Lydia’s boyfriend, which begged the question—and, he called it rather loudly, “What exactly has that girl been teaching you that’s got you up a tree?”

Virtus smiled at Remarque.

"I felt you coming!" he said, as if that was a brand new discovery that he had just made on behalf of all of his kind. He had been told, of course, what auras were, and he had certainly felt the intense differences between their ranks when he first powered up.

But he hadn't felt one coming toward him before, and that was pretty exciting.

He seemed unaware that he was danging from a limb, having slipped and snagged his clothes on the branch, or that this was a problem. He smiled at the other dark senshi and dangled with as much ease as if he were standing. All in stride, all in stride. He'd get down soon.

"I didn't want anyone to see me when I got dressed!" he replied jovially, thinking his answer a good one. And by got dressed he meant powered up. Still, the thought had been good. The execution left a little to be desired. "Are you gathering energy around here? Do you need any help?"

Asked the guy stuck in a tree.

Remarque stared at Virtus for a moment longer, slowly crossing his arms over his chest. And this? This was who Navi was dating?

“Help?” he prompted, perhaps stalling for a bit more time. He didn’t want to neglect members of his court and he was genuinely curious about the newcomer, though there was just something about him that made Jett doubt Virtus would be of much help to him. Still, no harm in meddling.

“I suppose I’m gathering energy, yes. If you want to come along, I’ll allow it. Though I assure you that I don’t do much energy gathering in trees, so you might want to get down, first.” He spoke in a bit of an indifferent voice as he eyed the newer member of the court—in obvious contrast to Virtus’ seeming excitement, Remarque sounded bored. “Though, might I implore…If you didn’t want anyone to see you powering up, why didn’t you just ‘get dressed’ somewhere closer to the ground and then mirrorwalk out here?”

Virtus watched Remarque, tilting his head to the side. Which wasn't hard, considering he was dangling from the branch at a slightly off angle so everything was off to the side from the get go.

"Thank you!" the senshi of Kindness said when Remarque allowed for him to come along. That was all he wanted, after all, so he certainly couldn't ask for more. And it was very generous, to offer the newbie some time, so Virtus was more than happy for the yes.

He kicked his feet a bit, to try and dislodge himself, but the bough he was stuck on groaned and stubbornly refused to break. Gravity and the weight of Virtus himself did little to persuade it at the moment.

"You're right, I'll be down in a second!"

He hadn't thought about the mirrorwalking. He had only done it a couple of times, and he wasn't too familiar with where all the mirrors were around the city, though he remembered the details of his lesson with Lydia.

"That's a good idea, I didn't think of that," he said jovially as he struggled and put his feet against the trunk of the tree, turning awkwardly, then shoving himself away from it. It succeeded in dropping him from the tree immediately and he fell to the ground like a stone.

A smiling, generous stone. He'd probably thank the tree for letting him go, if he thought it would understand him.

Remarque watched the scene—interested, yes, but more or less at a loss. He didn’t know Virtus—or what he was capable of (or why Navi was dating him…)—but he knew that if he was part of the Dark Mirror Court then it was just plain rude to neglect him. Particularly because Remarque wasn’t quite sure how well Virtus was going to fill his role. He seemed more like a child than any sort of fighter, so he was full of questions as to how he had made is way into the Court.

“It helps for keeping anonymity,” Remarque replied, still watching the male. “And you don’t work yourself up a tree trying to be discrete. I’m surprised Navi didn’t offer that bit of information. It’s sweet though, you two?” he mused, tapping his gloveless fingers of his left hand on his forearm in thought. “How long have you two been, you know. An item?”

It seemed a bit out of place to him, and he wasn’t really one to judge people—yes, he was—though their relationship just begged to be questioned. Remarque was sure that Virtus was a properly kind, sweet young man and all, but Navi? What was she doing with someone so lighthearted and—well, innocent? Surely that wasn’t her type. He’d envisioned some cocky, badass piece of eye candy. The pieces didn’t fit—so many pieces didn’t fit.

And Remarque was incredibly nosy and was going to enjoy finding out why.

Virtus would fail completely as a dark senshi without help and guidance from his fellows. Not just because he was new and fairly hopeless, but he thrived on help and teamwork. He was a people person: the only thing he knew how to do was help others.

Being left on his own to help himself would just not work out in his favor. Or theirs, in the end.

"Well, we were a little busy when I dressed up the first time, and since then there haven't been any trees," he laughed, getting to his feet and brushing his robes off as he got up. He looked at Remarque when he asked about the relationship he, Virtus, and Navi had.

"Not very long," he said thoughtfully. A week or two? He would have to remember exactly, he noted silently, so they could properly celebrate anniversaries.

"Why do you ask?" he asked, without any skepticism or suspicion. He pulled a few leaves off his clothes, though he had a twig in his hair.

Remarque watched him, still. “Oh, just curious. I’m eager to see how dating on the job works. Not because I’m particularly cynical or anything, I’m sure you two will do just fine. But I was starting to think it was taboo to be dating someone you work with. Lesath and I,” he went on to explain, “have had this thing going on for a while now.”

He moved his hands from across his chest and let them fall to his side as he glanced over his shoulder, trying to decide where best to head for energy collection now that he had Virtus in tow. “But, of course. I’m a sucker for love stories,” he droned in a voice that hardly relayed any interest. “I’ve known Navi for a while,” he said, reluctant to say her civilian name in public. He might not have known her well, but he knew her all the same and didn’t suppose he needed to divulge too much information to Virtus to poke and prod for answers. “I don’t think I ever properly congratulated her on her catch. I suppose she’s quite a handful, hmm? She seems like she would be.”

"Well, we were dating before I joined the team," he clarified, nodding his head, "I can understand what you mean though. Dating on the job can be complicated, and if there are rules against it I would gladly talk to our Queen!"

He smiled, not wanting to break with protocol, after all.

Though Remarque's tone didn't match his words, it was his words that Virtus believed. He smiled brightly, nodding his head eagerly in agreement. He liked love stories, too, though he had never been a participant in one before. It was new and exciting and he would recommend it to anyone.

At her question about Navi, though, he seemed completely oblivious to what he could mean.

"A handful? She's very nice and I really like spending time with her." He pulled the twig from his hair, looking at it and then dropping it rather lightly. He shook his head, "I think I'm more of a handful for her now, not knowing anything, but it's okay! I'm learning and she's patient with me." His face spoke volumes, his expression dopey and tender.

"What about you an Lesath? You've been dating for a while? Are you happy? Is she nice?"
PostPosted: Mon Jan 02, 2012 10:59 am

Remarque was not entirely sure how he should be dealing with Virtus after these words. He knew he hadn’t been particularly whole hearted in his presentation of the situation—and the delivery of his words left far to be desired, but Virtus just didn’t seem to get it.

And was still being so damn nice about it.

Assuming Virtus was simply oblivious to sarcasm and lies, Remarque just flashed another small smile in his direction. “We’ve been dating for a while,” he confirmed, though had to calculate just how long it had been in his head. There would be two different stories for that, he was sure; Raven had apparently assumed they’d been dating for longer that he’d been aware, but however that happened, Remarque didn’t know, and didn’t really care to.

“But we were close from the get-go.” A moderate lie; ‘from the get go’ he’d ignored her and not thought much of her at all during school, though, “When we met up at the Surrounding, we got pretty close. Near death experiences,” he waved his hand nonchalantly. “Always good for bringing people together. Lesath, however, is very much a handful. But, honestly, all girls are. So far as I know, dating inside the Court is fine, and until someone tells me otherwise, I have no intention of dropping her. Besides, it’s nice having someone you know will completely watch your back. Who you can trust for anything. “

Not so nice having someone who knew your deepest, darkest secrets and could exploit them if she was so inclined, but Virtus seemed to be an optimist—and why would Remarque want to sully that view of the world?

He instead shifted positions and clapped Virtus on the back. “Come on, let’s go get some energy. Have you been in a fight, yet?” he prompted, seeming now interested in Virtus and not just his relationship with Navi. “Met other senshi or knights?”

"That is nice. I trust Navi with my... everything, not just my back. I know she'll take care of me, even if I take a little while to understand things. Because I knew I'll take care of her, too. That's why I'm here at all, I think. To be there for her, because..."

He couldn't be before.

He wasn't sure how much of Lydia's personal story he was supposed to share, so he stopped himself and blushed a bit, shaking his head. He knew the court was close, but it wasn't his place to share another person's secrets, even if they had been shared already and he just didn't know. Still, in his heart he knew he was here now, Sailor Virtus, because he had to make up for dying on her while they were in space.

He shook his head.

"No, I've never had to fight anyone. I mean, just the monst... the youma, when I was awakened, but the Queen turned it into dust before I had to do anything. I've only met other people like us, too. Oh! And a really nice young man from the Negaverse." He smiled, nodding his head.

So far, he had not seen anything of these 'enemies' they supposedly had. And he was glad for that!

Remarque had half suspected Virtus was about to divulge in some deep dark secret of Navi’s , so when he dropped the topic, Remarque couldn’t help but be a little disappointed. They might be a team, but he was still going to be nosy. Remarque assumed, judging from where the conversation had seemed to be heading that it had something to do with Navi’s induction into the Dark Mirror Court and the loss of her civilian identity, though by no means was certain. Remarque was rather prone to assumptions of many things, though didn’t always vocalize such.

Though still musing over Virtus’ words about Navi, he was at least grateful that the male hadn’t run into any hostile senshi. It wasn’t just that Virtus was new and might not be certain of his powers or strengths yet, it was that Remarque seriously doubted he even had any idea on how to fight. “That’s good,” he said, glancing over the area. They were likely to at least find a few homeless candidates for energy draining, and he figured it best to start small. “I trust Navi taught you how to call out your mirror wraith?” he asked as he started walking towards a rather ominous set of alleyways. He wasn’t sure how much the newest member of their group actually knew, though wasn’t about to discredit him. He just didn’t seem to know what to do with him.

Virtus didn't mean to be an information tease, he just wanted to respect his girlfriend's privacy and make sure not to get her in any trouble. He would not forget the stern way the Queen had told him never to lose his identity, after all. It was the most important of secrets. Obviously, that rule was different within the team, but that was just fine.

He had no idea that he had come very close to dying more than once, that fateful night when he was awakened into the Court. That by learning Lydia was Navi before he had become Virtus would have likely sealed his fate.

If he hadn't been lucky.

"Well..." he looked a little puzzled, "I'm still not too sure about the mirror. To be honest. I wish it was as easy as the Negaverse made it look. The nice young man I talked to was able to just pull the energy out of someone with a touch. I'm worried I'm going to scare someone." He followed Remarque eagerly, like a puppy.

He was new, but he eager to learn, at least.
PostPosted: Thu Jan 12, 2012 12:52 pm

Remarque glanced over his shoulder, offering Virtus an incredulous look. Worried he was going to scare someone? God, wasn’t that just precious. “…If it makes you feel any better, it’s not like it hurts them or anything.” Not that he had any idea if it hurt or not, but he wasn’t trying to worry Virtus. Remarque rather liked scaring people, but he also didn’t seem to have the moral compass Virtus had been cursed with.

“Kind of jealous of the Negaverse, though. They’ve got it easy. They don’t have to worry about protecting their mirror wraith. Be careful with that thing, too. Don’t let it get hit. Pretty much the easiest type of person to borrow energy from,” he said, deciding on friendlier diction when discussing such matters with Virtus, “Is someone who is already sleeping. Homeless people are good for that, you can find them all over, late at night. Just lying around sleeping. Who is your Negaverse friend?”

Remarque didn’t necessarily mind jumping from subjects, and a part of him was curious to know who Virtus was interacting with. Remarque was still making up his mind about the Negaverse and knew only a very small handful of them, though he couldn’t help but implore now that this friend of Virtus’ had been brought up twice.

"That does make me feel better, thank you!" He smiled brightly at that. It had bothered him a little bit, if he let himself feel such things, that he might be hurting someone. But he would do it anyway, because he had been asked to, and he knew it would help. That was all he had ever wanted to do, in any part of his life. Help.

Now he had a true reason, and calling and a purpose. He would be as loyal as they come, if not in an innocent puppy kind of way. But puppies could be trained.

It was up to their master to determine what kind of a dog they would be.

"What happens if the wraith gets hit?" He asked, worrying about it now. The poor thing was probably easy to beat up. Virtus could relate to that. At least now he could do something about his friends being hurt: if they had to fight to do their jobs, he could heal them. He wasn't sure he could heal a wraith though.

He nodded his head, remembering that. Homeless people were good targets. Sleeping people. They certainly wouldn't get scared, then, if he just borrowed some of their energy while they were sleeping: and they'd get it back through the rest! He imagined, anyway, and it was a nice bubble that would do better if it weren't burst.

"Oh, his name is... uhm..." Oh dear. Virtus was terrible with names. Just terrible. He didn't mean to be, he tried to remember every face, and every name, because that was just polite, but things had been so new and overwhelming that now he forgot. "He had... long hair? I'm sorry, I can't remember... I can find out though! I'll find him again."
