Aeolia had never met a Negaverse officer before. Well, technically he had, but not much had really resulted from the encounter. A skirmish ensued, but a few minutes later the lieutenant quickly fled. Perhaps he had been too inexperienced in fighting, but Aeolia was the same (mostly). He had tried out a couple fighting sports, but he wasn’t dedicated to them like others were. The page had an interest for playing tennis, not beating other people up.

His encounter with the female lieutenant had been a coincidence. Aeolia was still getting used to sensing other energy signatures. He figured he would acclimate to it eventually, but for the time being meeting Xenotime was a surprise.

Soon as he rounded the corner and noticed the woman he stopped. Aeolia just…stared. He didn’t move. He didn’t speak. He just stared with a blank expression. A part of him suggested that he make the first move, but the other part wondered if this officer would be like the last one, the one who ran away early and, quite frankly, appeared reluctant to fight. While he certainly wouldn’t run from a fight, if he could avoid returning to the dorms without injury that would be kind of awesome.

So he just kept staring and waited for her to do something.

Where the page hadn't noticed the energy of another drawing closer, the same couldn't be said for the rookie lieutenant. She'd felt the presence of an order aligned figure nearby, and she'd purposefully gone searching for it.

Not that he was all that hard to find, not when he was wandering around so apparently blind.

She was perched rather casually on the edge of an awning proclaiming the best Italian cuisine in all of the city. Giovani's, an ancient restaurant Xeno had actually gone to a few times with her mother before times got hard and they couldn't afford it anymore. Seemed the business had fared about the same, if the faded, out-dated decor and dirty windows were any indication. She watched the young man as he stared up at him, leaning forward so she could rest her forearms on her knees. Slender fingers hooking idly.

To her credit, Xenotime didn't look half as new to this whole thing as she actually was. When painite had offered her power, Poe had leapt at it, and she was adapting excellently.

"You look like a deer caught in headlights," she commented, grinning. "What's the matter with you?"

Aeolia would have liked to have told Xenotime knights were on their own. Valhalla and Naica had given him a basic rundown of how things went and worked, but most of the information he had gathered had been through practice and from what little experience he had gotten. He knew powered individuals possessed energy signatures, but this he had to figure out on his own. Either the more experienced knights had told him and he’d forgotten—verbal information dumps were very unpleasant—or the fact was so easy they had forgotten to inform him.

His eyebrows furrowed at her comment. The knight remained silent, but the expression on his face conveyed it all: “What? If a deer caught in headlights has a scowl, sure I guess.” Aeolia paused as he considered whether or not to answer her question. Well, he figured a bit of chit chat wouldn’t hinder him, at least not when they had started a battle at the moment. “I was wondering if you were the type to run away.” A hard stare at the lieutenant, who appeared amused and sure of herself. “But clearly you aren’t.”

The scowl that slide into being on his face only seemed to amuse her further, and a flash of white teeth caught the subtle light thrown by a nearby street light. Like the Cheshire cat as he smiled down at Alice in the Dreary Tumtum Tree woods. Unfortunately for the knight however, Xenotime wasn't half the trickster, and her grin only seemed to thinly veil the dangerous way she was looking at him.

"Run away?" She laughed, a harsh bark of sound in the quiet evening. "Why the ******** would I do a stupid thing like that?" Even. Score her corruption into the lieutenant staring down at the boy, Xeno had been a fighter. A frequent visitor to a favored gym, it was more then just a work out, it was a hobby.

"I guess it's not a totally mental idea," she considered conversationally, glancing down at the studs that covered the knuckles on her gloves. "I mean, if you wanted to give it a go I would t blame you. You don't look like much of a fighter." Looks had the potential to be deceiving, but somehow the agent of chaos didn't think so, not this time.

The Cheshire grin did not perturb Aeolia, nor did her words faze him all that much. He firmly stood by his words and opinions. While the lieutenant found the suggestion blasphemous, the knight found it to be reasonable. If he didn’t need to start a fight for the Negaverse officer to flee then why waste the energy? “I’ve seen a couple lieutenants run away. Very easily too.” Annoyance flashed in his eyes as he glanced sideways and shifted in place. Unlike you, he thought to himself. She seemed incredibly confident of herself. Did she have experience fighting? That would be troublesome, but Aeolia wouldn’t back down.

Especially after that last comment. “I have no intention of running from a fight before it’s even started.” He easily scaled the building, but was careful to land a couple yards away from Xenotime. The page eyed the studs on her gloves. How lucky for her. All he had was a bag full of sand, and it wasn’t even a lot of sand. Well, at least they didn’t appear they would hurt him too much if Xenotime happened to land in a solid punch. He waited, giving her the first move.

That probably wasn't so smart.

"Well those lieutenants aren't here, now are they?" If he'd been hoping to avoid a fight tonight, then he had run into the wrong negaverse agent. Xenotime did have fighting experience. More then that really, the girl had a love of it, it was a hobby, and obsession. She was in the gym four times a week hammering away at a heavy bag to keep her skills sharp.

The annoyance that flashed across his features was just amusing, and the grin Xeno was sporting grew. It hadn't been as much of a reaction as she would have liked, but it was enough to know he responded to needling comments. "Are you sure?" She glanced down at her nails and the fresh coat of plum polish she'd applied earlier that day. It was flawless, not a single chip or scratch, but that was about to change. "Last chance to walk away."

She didn't bother looking up Ashe scaled the wall to land beside her on the awning, not until she'd had enough of her nails. Whether he answered or not, she'd given him his last chance to save himself, and when he didn't move to leave she lowered her hand beside her to help push herself up. "Well alright, but I did warn you..."

She almost sounded sorry, almost. If not for the eager grin it would have been totally believable.

Two quick steps was all it took to close the gap between them, and when she reached the young man her right first was already cocked back, whipping forward and aimed at his face. She probably should have grabbed the front of his shirt, him in place, but she didn't think it'd be fair.

He didn’t like this lieutenant, although Aeolia guessed that he would never like any negaverse agent. They were, apparently, the enemy. Personally the knight wasn’t too opposed to the negaverse’s presence. There would always be “good” and “bad.” However, he did not tolerate their goddamn youmas. As a civilian—before he had become a knight—he had run into his share of the creatures, and damn was it a mess to try and escape from those monsters. His family didn’t like to travel at night for fear of running into them. Plus this woman had a frustrating personality. If they ever met as civilians he would avoid her like the plague.

His expression remained surprisingly cool, although his mouth was still twisted in a usual scowl, as he answered, “I’m sure.” Aeolia was a stubborn man, for better or for worse. Once he set his mind to something it was near-impossible to stop him unless someone coughed up a convincing reason. If he encountered trouble he wouldn’t give up, but sometimes he didn’t know when to let things die and just stop.

The corner of his mouth twitched for a quick moment. “The warning is appreciated, but unnecessary.” Perhaps if she had been a captain or general he might have actually considered it—he vaguely knew that these people were at least a rank above him or something like that. The “apology” didn’t faze him much as he stood ready.

She moved quickly, but Aeolia had been waiting for it. The moment she pulled back her fist he moved to duck and elbow her in the stomach.

Oh ho, maybe he was a little less helpless then she'd assumed? Or lucky. Regardless he'd been successful in dodging her first punch, but as his elbow connected with her stomach she grabbed his arm, holding on as she continued moving, forcing the both of them off the awning and towards the concrete below. The first impact of arm against stomach was unpleasant, the second, as they hit the ground, would be worst, but he'd be the one hitting the ground with her on top of him.

Her voice was a little strained as she spoke, but blows to the stomach will do that to a person. "Well you're not quite so clueless as I had thought." It was a compliment, albeit a backward one. "Not that it matters."

She'd underestimated him out the gate, it was a careless mistake, and not one Xenotime was willing to make a second time. She was going to treat this soldier like any other skilled opponent she faced down. No more playing, it was time to get serious.

Rolling away from him, she popped back up to her feet, falling into her familiar stance. Not anything instantly recognizable, but claiming bits and pieces and many different styles. Martial arts as well as good old fashioned street brawling.

Maybe he was a little less helpless than she thought. Maybe he was luckier than both of them thought. Maybe it was both. Regardless Aeolia didn’t bother to thank his stars and tried to frantically figure out what his next move would be. He didn’t get much time to ponder, since Xenotime automatically grabbed his arm and sent them both off the edge of the building. His eyes widened and lips curled into a snarl. “You—“ The air rushed out of his lungs as he crashed to the ground. It was painful to half his skull bash against the concrete and to have a biting sensation rippling through his back, but it was even more excruciating when there was a rather large heap of junk on top of him.

He took the moment to recompose himself. Aeolia waited for the pain to subside, swallowed and calmly answered, “I appreciate the compliment.” The knight waited another moment to see if she would get off or if he would have to push her away, but fortunately she rolled away. He got up and stared at Xenotime, taking note of her unusual stance. Aeolia noted the distance between them and took a few cautious steps. The knight paused for half a second before finally lashing forward and ducking for a sweeping kick to her legs.

The lieutenant was grinning as her opponent got to his feet and took those few cautious steps forward. She was ready for him when he darted forward, and the swipe to her legs was avoided with a quick side step, and in that same motion she moved to attack. Her left arm drawing back as if she meant to throw another punch, but instead her leg came up when she neared him, and she drove her knee up and into his stomach as hard as she could. Fingers catching him his shoulder this time to keep him from simply slipping away.

"You're better then I thought," she hissed near his ear, then let him go and bounced out of reach. "But I'm still better."

There was no time for him to regestering all of what she said, or even really to recover from the knee to his solar plexus, if she had managed to nail him good. She was moving again, darting forward and feinting to the left before drawing her right fist back and hurling it forward towards his cheek.

She was good; Aeolia had to give her that. Her calm grin and stance had indicated experience, but sometimes appearances could be deceiving. That the knight knew. There was no time for the young man to thoroughly register her successful dodges. Fights were quick, devoid of thoughts and calculations. Xenotime pulled back her arm and he began to move out of the way when she instead went in for a kick. While he managed to avoid the kick he failed to pry himself free from the fingers grabbing his shoulders.

He stayed mute as she moved out of the way. “A bit overconfident, do—“ Aeolia didn’t have time to finish his sentence before she rushed forward. With his attention previously focused on speaking, he didn’t even have time to register the fake before she managed to punch him in the cheek and sending him to the ground. s**t that hurt, but there wasn’t time to sulk over his throbbing cheek. Instead he quickly rose back and aimed to return the punch with one of his own.

This kid was a rookie, it was painfully obvious to Xenotime as she felt the sharp impact of her knuckles against his cheek. Everything about him screamed green. Not just as a fighter, but as a soldier in this large scale war. She could be wrong of course, at least about the second part, but there was a shiny newness to him. Briefly she had to wonder if she had that same new penny look, that naive eagerness, that fear. God, she hoped not. She might be new to the Negaverse, but she certainly didn't seem like a ******** greenhorn.

She watched him rock back from the impact, laughter bubbling up in her throat, and for just a second she dropped her guard, and that was enough for the boy to land a surprisingly nice left hook to the side of her face. There was no skill to it, and he wasn't exactly physically imposing, but if nothing else he had luck, and that one hit stung.

It was enough to drop the Lieutenant's cockiness a touch, and as she turned her head back to face the page there was a dangerous resolve glittering in gray scale eyes. No more games, no more taunts. It was time to treat this kid as a serious foe.

With little more warning then the slight tension of her shoulders the girl rushed forward, both fists flying, aiming high and low, any unguarded bit of his body would be exploited. If he wanted to play hard, she would play hard, and she would fight to win. Porcha Webber id not like losing, and that didn't change when she put on her Negaverse uniform. Hell, if anything it made her all the more determined to win.

He didn’t care if he was new and green. Aeolia still didn’t know what his stance was regarding this magical space war. He was still very much a fledgling—he could count the number of pages he knew on a single hand, but the page didn’t bother to get the names of lieutenants or Negaverse officers he had encountered during his nightly patrols. He didn’t care about them. Aeolia only cared that a duty had been thrown onto him—much to his chagrin—and he had to do it. If it meant having to fight and get beat up then so be it. He would do this as best as he could. Aeolia didn’t half-a** things if he could help it.

The lieutenant looked far from pleased when his fist made contact with her face. He allowed himself to raise an eyebrow at her. Aeolia was a rookie at fighting and she was not, but did she really expect that he wouldn’t be able to land even one punch? It almost hurt his ego. Almost.

Aeolia didn’t see her coming. The first couple hits landed with little problem, but by the fourth the page began to fight through the pain and make his next move. He wasn’t going to stand there helplessly as she beat him senseless. He wouldn’t let her do that. The page twisted his body as he elbowed away her fists, hopefully enough for him to take a couple leaps back to create distance between them.

Otherwise falling back and rolling away sounded good too.

In all honesty she'd expected him to run after the first of her attacks had landed, but he'd surprised her by staying. Then further still when he not only landed a punch, but had actually managed to pull off something that would leave bruises in the morning. Xeno tacked the latter up to luck, the first was credited to naivety, or stubbornness.. Maybe just stupidity.

Yes, the lieutenant was extremely cocky.

As her fists connected with his body one after the other that savage joy returned to the purple haired soldier, and she was smiling by the time the page had managed to get an elbow between them to block. It let him get a few paces back, but if he imagined Xeno was going to continue giving him time to recover after every attack, he'd be sorely mistaken.

As he went back, she dropped forward onto her hands and swung one long leg around to sweep at his feet and hopefully knock them out from under him. She didn't so much need him on his back, and knew it would make beating him so much easier in the long run. The longer he was on his feet, the better chance he had at pulling off more little lucky moves to put space between them, and that space was nothing more then borrowed time in Xeno's opinion.

The game was growing tiresome, it was time to end this.

Perhaps it was a combination of stupidity and stubbornness that persuaded the page to stay. He gritted his teeth as the woman landed blow after blow, but Aeolia refused to give in. Eyes were wide and attentive, registering the move just a second in time to allow him to sidestep the sweep, but what was he supposed to do after that? In the end, he was still a novice at fighting. A clueless Aeolia went forward to kick her in the stomach while she was still in the ground. So the game continued and he showed little sign of giving in.

Yet, somewhere along the way, he was knocked out cold, and that was the end of that.
